Content creator irresponsibility in covering #FFXIVHEALERSTRIKE

Tl;dr malding that it's perfectly reasonable to devalue the opinions of people who don't actually play the content that's in the game.

I play like maybe one game of chess a year. I know some of the lingo but don't have more than 3 moves of opening theory memorized and often miss key strategic ideas and even simple tactics. Do you really want my opinion on chess? Do you really think anyone should take that feedback seriously? If you were a high-level tournament or titled player how would you feel if you saw some echo chamber of generally low-skill players complaining about issues that aren't really issues (knights are op pls nerf!), when there are actual problems out there (so-called "grandmaster's draws" are unhealthy for the growth and visibility of the game).

Many people here are people playing a lot of dungeons and are criticising the lack of necessity for healers in dungeons and other casual content though. How does spending our time in casual content all the time disqualifies our opinion about casual content because we don't do ultimates, a vastly different way of gameplay and barely comparable type of content?

Dungeons aren't real content and tell us nothing about job design or balance, which is the entire point of the discussion. It is on the same level as afking in limsa cooking glams--a fine and valued way to play the game, but not one that has a leg to stand on when talking about design and balance of battle content.

You are aware that Savage and Ultimate is considered a "niche" in the Western Playerbase and even in the japanese one (which has a higher percentage) its not a majority.
So most player dont attempt to even do that content. So step down from your high horse. Having enganging gameplay and having hard challenges are hardly the same.
Also i read enough in this Forum to see that even fair chunk of Hardcore Player do see the overall class design as problem.

But something i also tell Hardcore Players ingame when i talk about this is what hard content is or isnt hard is subjective. :)

You do understand that the reason healers are one-button jobs and that dungeons are impossible to die in are because that is what the community asked for for years, right? Maybe we don't listen to that feedback anymore.

Funny here in the casual scenes we hear that the Raiders want everything to be ultra simple so its easier for there hardcore content.

But in this Forum i learned that this isnt so easy to point at "The other" and blame them.

Especialy considering this is the official feedback forum, how often do you see "Please make it simpler" threads popping up?

Also being a Casual player doesnt mean i dont recognize when classes lose more and more interconnecting parts.
As example Losing the need to keep up Dragons Blood buff on the dragoon made it so much more boring as class and from the looks of it they removed even more interconnected parts in the DT version.
And that the class design is focused to be only really functional at max level is a bad design choice and the current summoner shows the peak of that. Especialy with the habbit of removing abilities in earlier levels.

How long are we going to live in the shadow of cleric stance’s terrible design and square enix “use a hammer when a file is the better tool” approach to fixing problems

Healer problems with DPS in ARR/HW weren’t due to “I’m a healer I don’t want to do DPS” it was that cleric stance was clunky as hell and and punished you heavily for that clunk

We’ve all had a wipe to smashing the cleric stance button and turning it off only for the button to read two inputs and turn it straight back on again, that was cleric stance’s bad button design and that was the overwhelming majority of problematic feedback at the time. When they dumped off cleric stance in SB to make it a generic weak burst damage tool healers were fine (well except the garbage stormblood lily system)

Nobody back then was asking for 11111111 because if you didn’t want to do damage back then in casual content you weren’t punished for it unlike today where it’s expected because you have nothing else to do

They aren't really devaluing anything though, they are just doing a complete and utter disservice to rudimentary statistics.

Your comparison would have merit if it were the actual upper end of the content that people are referring to, of which largely in part they are referring to an opinion on that, and I do believe that casual players talking about engagement or lack thereof in casual content is completely fine. People want their content to have balance. Stormblood presented this level of balance in gameplay especially in casual content, Shadowbringers and Endwalker did not. These expansions are quite literally at the point where we aren't designing for a skill floor, but for people that want to sit at the skill floor, take a shovel to it and proceed to dig the Mariana trench beneath it. You literally can't write better comedy.

It being casual content does not excuse how poor the gameplay is on it, and I can in fact tell you that it is a problem regardless of whether you may or may not agree with it. A lot of people are expected to essentially sit through 150 hours of unengaging gameplay before they can do anything with a modicum of interest. But do tell how this is the pinnacle of design and an OK situation.

Nuance is a banned word in square enix apparently. When people complained about not wanting people to harass them about using cleric stance people constantly stated that cleric stance was the problem, not the dps tools themselves. When cleric stance was removed in stormblood healers were in the best state they've ever been in.

But square enix wouldn't stop putting healers under their hammer and decided to completely destroy them in shadowbringers.

I mean...the first post in the Strike thread does explain it :)
But to sumarize it, multiple years of feedback get completly more or less ignored. basicly mocked and the problems only increase. The Healers in the Official Feedback Forum stated problems since multiple expansions and yeah...here we are.

"Healing is so fricking easy" is literally the point that is being criticized. There is a big thread with #FFIXHEALERSTRIKE as name. The very first post describes what this is about and why people are asking other healers to join. The bar for learning what this is about before posting in a different thread and showing out in the open you missed the point entirely was really, really low.

And yet you did it and talk about a lack of self awareness, for a thing that shouldn't bother you because "it's a video game" nonetheless, per your own words.

Regarding "Casual content is not real content": It is the content every player has to play at some point at least once, even the hardcore raiders, for unlocking the hardcore raids, ex trials and ultimates. Together with questing and cutscenes it is the biggest part of the game. That aside, any content is real content, no matter if you personally prefer it, and if it is not perceived as such, it is even more proof something is going terribly wrong with it.

Tbh it was probably planned for a long time before this thread was created in order to finally give EU the region locked mount we've not been able to obtain, but thanks to some of the idiotic takes we've seen from content creators in the past week it will be fairly easy to determine which streams to watch.

Oh yes, because they definitely planned this particular promo with Twitch JUST to strike back at the upset healers in this post.
FFS, these types of promos are planned months and months in advance. I guarantee the marketing team had zero clue at the start of this year that healers would throw an epic temper tantrum 2 weeks before the launch of dawntrail over a leveling dungeon clear on a beta test build of the expansion.

Considering i've followed this since it started and it ballooned to almost 500 pages doesn't mean I have zero clue. This is how I perceive the overall behavior of the majority of the people participating in this thread. And I'm a healer main myself. I've been playing the game for 10 years and I have seen the evolution of the healer come to what it is because of the devs responding directly to the majority of healers that said healing was too hard. Now its easy and now a vocal minority is throwing a fit before a launch because of a BETA TEST DUNGEON CLEAR. For all you know you will bust up in there on launch to find the difficulty HAS been turned up and that tanks are absolute paper during the trash pulls just like it was in shadowbringers in Holminster Switch. This "strike" is jumping the gun and is absolutely ridiculous as a whole. And then to have someone insinuate that a twitch promo was planned specifically to push back at the minority striking is just further proof how selfcentered this entire "strike" is to think they are so important to drive a marketing campaign to "slap them in the face"

Really bad comparison. XIV fights vs chess against another human who is possibly an expert? Yeah I may not ask for your opinion. That said, what I can do is go online and educate myself about it. I can do that for XIV too to be fair. But XIV is still going to be much more predictable.

In fact, just looking at the forums, there has never been a healer thread that has garnered so many likes as the Ultimate healing thread and the strike thread.

And the forums are actually representative - see the calculations done by hunter2.

omg, that tells me that you have not been around that long and did not experience cleric stance dancing healing at ALL. Yes, there was a large chunk of players that cried that healing was too hard and that it gated healing to only the most skilled of players due to the expecation that they heal AND dps but to be effective at DPS they had to turn a stance off and on to properly put out damage. The devs responded and removed stances in Stormblood. And yet there was still ever the "healers should heal and not dps" crowd. And the Devs ARE aware, quotes from YoshiP floating in several of these threads show he knows what's up and said its not going to change. We even have japanese players in the main thread saying they are not on board with this idea of a healer strike and healers are fine and go play another job if you don't like it. These changes absolutely were driven by player feedback and the FORUMS are not the only source of player feedback as MOST of the player base discusses the game in Twitch/youtube, Reddit, discord servers and facebook/X posts. Whether or not it's a slap in the face, it's objectively embarrassing. Grown adults bullying strangers over a video game is cringe and reflects very poorly on SE. None of the content creators in other parts of the FF Fandom behave that way.

And again in some cases you're talking about adults who have already been banned from their own platforms for egotistical and abusive behavior, not some kind of innocent mistake by Twitch/SE.

Any survey done by polling firms poll a tiny, tiny, tiny slice of the population.

Pew's polls, which are the gold standard, poll thousands at a time. Out of hundreds of millions of Americans.

You need to demonstrate why the forums are peculiar in its composition. And you haven't.

Finally, the people complaining back in HW and SB never got the same number of likes as current threads. A lot of the replies also just told them to get good.

This really shows a lack of knowledge on the subject and a lot of assumptions.
The ppl surveyed in a serious sociological study must meet a series of criteria to make said group representative for the population that is polled.
Ofc a forum does not meet said criteria for a lot of reasons. Take the fact that usually unsatisfied ppl tend to come post on the forums. But most important, the respondents are not selected, they post here by their own impulse and volition

There is definitely sample bias, but you also have zero evidence which direction that sample bias goes. You have no evidence that the forums contain more unsatisfied players than the general playerbase. The forums are going to be the most representative out of all social media because only players who are subscribed can post, and because all official channels point towards the official forums.

We could agree that the forums have an intensity bias, in that people here generally have more intense opinions because they feel compelled to post in the first place. But which direction is that intensity pointing at? You have no evidence for any of that.

There are plenty of examples of negative threads getting ratioed. With these examples, how can you confidently insinuate that these forums naturally slant negatively? The healer strike thread is one of the few major criticism threads that has virtually zero "ratioing". This looks VERY, VERY different from the situation in the EW story thread.

Someone only has to be unhappy or otherwise feel like talking about one (1) thing and they've now they're here and easily roped into every other topic.

This is really the closest you're going to get to a representative sample.

So why the comparison in the first place? You probably have a bias, you have no idea what intensity or in which direction so you could at least compensate for ot, how can you even compare a thread on a forum with a sociological study? It's useless.
You can assume stuff, if it makes you feel better, or right, but the truth is either forums, or reddit, or x are not representative for the ppl playing the game. They might be, but we have no way of knowing. The only ppl with metrics are SE. So if they see the number of healers plummeting, they will do something, for sure.

But if you want to talk about subjective evidence or small samples, a lot of the healers in my dungeons (when I don't play healer myself) kinda struggle. Hell, in the strike thread you had someone supporting the strike while also saying he struggles to heal a normal wall-to-wall. Making healing more difficult will certainly be funny. But it's also gonna lead to some wipes, some kicked healers, some complaints. I am all for it, popcorn is ready.

One flaw in this is there is no dislike option. In your example, 387 liked the comment. If there had been a dislike button, and it got to 2k, that would be an indicator of something. However, the flip side is this opens things to be abused, so likes on a thread are not really the best indicator in my opinion.

Polling done by an official company such as the Pew Research Center uses the gold standard for reliability of a "simple random sample" (everyone in the population has an effectively equal chance of providing input) and the "margin of error" reported in these polls is based on the size of the sample. These forums, on the other hand, would constitute what is called a "voluntary sample" from a statistics perspective (data is obtained from people who *choose* to post here), and is recognized as one of the two most *unreliable* ways of obtaining representative data.

You are the one (or rather, the "healer strike" crowd) trying to claim the voluntary sample is valid. The onus is on you to prove it is so, not on others to prove that an unreliable approach is somehow reliable in this particular case.
