I feel like I've seen WAY more Hrothgar wearing skimpy outfits than Viera. The tables have turned, and I don't like it.

Yeah, not everyone turned into a bunbun, but idk where you are if you are not seeing any bunnies. They are definitely overrepresented in the game.

They're nice, but so is 10 bucks of Taco Bell.

It may depend on individual server, but I see see them all over the place.

I've changed to viera, but the price of the fantasia and the big amount of limitations, hairs, gears, animations and voices are a big thumb down to the race. Seems a pretty gohorse job on the race. #judgeme

Out of the female races, Roegadyn and Elezen were hit the hardest, both losing 10% of their population. Au Ra also lost a lot at 8%, but they still vastly outnumber both Roegadyn and Elezen. Most of the male races actually saw an increase in their population. Except for Roegadyn, which was hit hard, losing 10% of its population.

Roegadyn are exceptionally rare now. Think of it like this. There are more Hrothgar out there (23,307) than there are male and female Roegadyn combined (22,682). The people who were worried and expressed concerns about the Roegadyn population being thinned out by Hrothgar and Viera were absolutely right.

I'm amazed that Hrothgar is really close to Elezen numbers, despite having limited hairstyles. I guess this proves Yoshi P's point about people wanting a beastial race in the game. I expected Viera to suprass Au ra and Miqot'es, though.

Imagine how high their numbers would be if people got free Fantasia phials.

That "other race" isn't female, which a majority of active players play as, so there's zero evidence male Viera would do much if any better.

I really wish Viera Male fans would stop being butt hurt over something that's over and done. Oh look, a beastly race of big dudes is as popular as male elezen and more played than female elezen and the combined genders of the only other big race in the game ... a successful new addition to the race line up. Miqo'te's are way cuter than the bunnies in my opinion.

It is as if they think that we don't already have a plethora of races that look similar to male Viera and that adding them will attract new players that never played the game because they couldn't find a race to play with.

I love the buns and I'm so glad they gave them to us. I see tons of beautiful bunnies everywhere and I'm living for it. The truly unexpected thing is that I also see a good deal of Hrothgar also running around. Everyone predicted that race would be a flop and instead, its thriving.

HW did not come with a free fantasia. Collectors edition comes with a fantasia.

So while that is a factor, I wouldn't call it free. Nor an "everyone" case either since not everyone got collectors.

I keep looking at the numbers and it's an interesting example of need vs want. Yoshi was right, something like Hrothgar is what the game needed for a healthy future. If you're gonna jump through the hoops to make a new race it should be something that strikes an otherwise untapped group that could bring in people who are otherwise not serviced by the choices at hand. Kinda reflected in the numbers ...

Like, with the current data we can't tell how many Viera are just converts from the other races. Seeing as all females took a decrease in play you'd think you could just add those numbers up right? But the game's still bringing in new people in that time ... so even if like 10% of cat girls converted there could be enough new cat girls to only see a 3% drop in numbers, we don't know rn. Same is true for Hrothgar but in reverse. The only males to see a drop were Roebros by 2K which would clearly be caused by Hrothgar, other wise every male saw an increase ... so even if some number of cat boys converted there would be enough new cat boys to only see an increase reflected in the numbers. Can't tell how many are new vs current.

If I had to guess I'd say it's just as Yoshi made it sound like, the Viera were picked over Female Hrothgar for the fans (like myself) who pretty much brow beat them into including them. Explains why even with all the new players every female race took a numbers hit for the Viera population to reach it's size, it was for current fans and not something that brings new players to the game. Hrothgar numbers and the net increase to all males sans Roebros show that they have successfully struck a demo that wasn't serviced by the other race options that may have kept people out.

It's why I openly wish for Female Hrothgar to be included but don't care 1 bit about male Viera, one brings something new to the game and the other makes a 3rd option for tall pretty boi.
But that's just me, I don't think either is being added in the future.

-Not smol
-Emotes are stern / non-cutesy

Thankfully, the top two reasons are why I choose Viera, coming from a highlander and roe previously.
I would be more bothered by the hair, but they included that short one, which is perfect
and i never use headgear apart from glasses anyways.

To be fair, around 80% of female characters are played by guys anyway. So seeing "slutty" female character being a guy irl is just more common thing, because guys are more common as players in the first place. /shrugs/

Outside of this, I personally knew a girl who preferred open glamours for her female character, but still - almost every time I see female character, the player itself is developed to be a guy after some talking. It's not bad or something, it's just like how it is. I'm personally female playing male character, can't judge anybody.

As for the topic: I mean more emotes than body shapes. Miqo'te body language, both females and males tbh, is more open and mature as other races have (except Viera now... though I'm not sure really). And females have quite suggestive emotes which I don't really see as cute. Aside from this both Au Ra and Miqo are in the cute zone (females mostly). But that's just my feeling of course, I can't say it's a fact. For me Miqos are more sexy, and Auri are cutie waifus most of the time.

/looks at male Miqo'te rates/ well... who knows. Depends mostly on how they could look, in fact. FFXIV is actually the rare game where amount of male characters isn't drastically less than amount of females (40% of males to 60% of females I think?). And something tells me that this is exactly THANKS TO possibility create an adequately looking character proportions wise, not just another-mountain-of-muscles-without-mark-of-intellect-on-the-face (which is common for MMO though some, like BnS or BDO or few others, have very decent character creators).

Hrothgars are still fine anyway, they are decently popular, considering the fact they aren't the type of style that majority would prefer (looking solely at XIVCensus rates, at least). And they are new in terms of having beast race.

If all you're doing is pulling from current groups with new races then all you're doing is decreasing numbers for other races. Add in bunny and puppy and raccoon and mouse ear humans and congrats ... you've just decreased the number of kitty people by a ton at a great cost to development for no real reason.

I think people have a fundamental misunderstanding of how the money works in this. A race is the most expensive cosmetic option they can add to the game and to put it simply if they thought that the pay off in fantasias sells alone would warrant the added strain and resources of supporting more races they wouldn't be saying this is all they can handle ... they would legit make a new race every expansion if that were the case. The "real" pay off or profit to it would be in getting new players in the game and having a chance to hook them into the game world because now you offer something that appeals to them that wasn't there before.

You're right that Viera were added for "fan service" ... but the way Yoshi talked about it it seems more so like they felt they had to. Fans like myself pretty much brow beat them into doing it and to make current fans happy they went with it over Female Hrothgar. It's not just my words, the man legit says this. Same for the redundant bit, he literally said "what's the point in adding another handsome male if the only difference is the ears?". The reason to add a new race isn't to drag numbers away from something else already in the game, it's to offer something new to the line up that could appeal to people and bring in new players, to service people who aren't being serviced. (Atleast when your game doesn't look like it can run on a toaster that is. WoW can make all the new races they want because of how it looks)

Interesting view. I've found that female characters tend to have less choice in appearance options. There are all sexy-cute while the men tend to have a greater range. Well, except for WoW. Every guy there is an unshaved ape.

Well, I didn't say that females have more options, I wrote "waifu-cutewaifu-sexywaifu-everywhere" quite openly (and I see this part of my message in the quote). I only said that males mostly have horrible options (imo, ofc). Every time I tried a new MMO in the past it was two types of horrible range of choices for both genders:

- few mountain-gorilla-looking male options with dumb meh faces who looks like they never seen a mirror.
- few model-looking female options as if they took photoset for magazine 15 minutes ago.

There are some exceptions with good chracter options... for males mostly, though. Females in this term are mostly unlucky, sadly. FFXIV does good job at this point and has few decent options for both genders (female Roes and Highlanders are queens at least until femHorthgar release, dunno anything). FFXIV also does impressive job armor-wise, but that's not the topic now.

I don't say I'm completely disagree. There is a point, a solid one. But does it make addition of other 2/3-beast options less legit, just because they don't bring something completely new? No, it doesn't. At this point, uhm, let's phrase it like this: if they ever going to do counterparts, they should do both. I... I liked playing Male Worgen, Dwarf, Tauren and even my male Nightelf xD. But yeah, out of the few MMOs I have played, some have "ugly" male character models. And as someone who's never participated in any high-end hectic content, I get to actually look at my character more than others. Still, from what I skimmed, XIV's male character models look quite fine to me, even though I still decided for female Au'ra in the end (without knowing/caring about popularity).

I apologize for being unclear. What I disagreed with was your use of horrible. I was arguing; due to the wider range of options, males are not limited to choosing only horrible looks.

Meanwhile, most games offer only supermodel looks for their women. I know it isn't likely to occur in FFXIV; but, I'd love to play a plain Midlander woman as the Warrior of Light.

However, that's all off topic or is it? Maybe enough players felt like me that it impacted Viera. /shrug

Seeing a lot less bunny gals compared to a week ago. Some of my friends ended up going back to their previous races and the reasoning seems to be all the same: "Paid too much money, grinded too much pvp and participated in many events to suddenly not have access to any of the hairstyles anymore".
