Final Fantasy XIV 1.23b - Would you Play it if Available?

I missed the following...
1. Job changing during dungeons - Feel it made FFXIV unique.
2. Dungeon Speed Runs - Yes, it promotes Elitism but it is also fun as hell to squeeze every bit of speed out of a dungeon.
3. Ifrit Extreme - More random moves made it clearing a run actually a somewhat luck dependent and truly challenging...
4. White Raven fight - The arena was beautiful and not flat.
5. Resistances and elements actually meant something.
6. Open world leveling. Yes, it does get boring if you do it a lot, but another option is always good.
7. "Global" community on each server.

If it was soooooo great, we'd be playing it now. This thread is sheer nostalgia-bation. It''s like watching people insist that, yeah, broadband is cool and all, but AOL dial-up was pure sex and all you millenials missed out.

I would gladly and I think peachy hit it. Most of us thought we were getting ffxiv improved not what we got. I would have never become legacy status if I knew the game was going to go in this direction.
While the game was clunky the fights were fun, slower paced, decent social environment and man the animations were fantastic. Played much differently than most mmos with the slower ffxi style and it was a good mix and old and new.

But I know I am in the minority people like the current ffxiv I think. I think its mediocre nothing stand out or innovative does a serviceable job but I feel like the mmo market is pretty terrible atm.

I'd take slow combat over stupid button mashing/aoe dancing anytime. I remember the world way more than the zones we have now, hell I don't even remember a dungeon I ran an hour ago.
Final job quests were done with 4 players and were hard, required teamplay. Dungeons had mechanics and not just move around avoiding everything. AoEs from bosses were avoidable too but the bosses didn't spam aoes left and right and their actions were random, everything is scripted here.

Open-world exp/spiritbond parties. Materias actually meant something. NMs and coffers in the open.
Characters and monsters had weight, the graphics were beautiful and the textures didn't look as awful as they do now. Cutscenes were nicely made.

Relics were... relics, not useless weapons given to you by spamming useless easy content.

We were expecting a 1.23b 2.0 not the awful thing we have now, we wouldn't have gone legacy if we knew it was going to be this way.

It just became a game for easy-to-please always-in-a-hurry people.

The only thing we're hoping now is for Yoshida to go away, far away and never come back. Or a FFXI remake.

Although many of these comments in this thread I may not agree with but I accept others opinions on this subject, I just want to point out this is an exception to tolerating. This is an incredibly rude and insulting comment towards the man who is universally agreed throughout the gaming industry as having saved FFXIV. This comment is like kicking Yoshi in the head and then spitting on him, it is that insulting.

ARR was built using feedback and wishes from 1.0 players. He made it according to 1.0 player ideas. It was never going to be '1.0 with better graphics' or a 'FFXI remake'. It's not SE's fault that people may have misunderstood or were in denial clinging to the past.

Of course there is nothing wrong with liking 1.0 or preferring it over ARR. But 1.0 is gone and will never return.

Not to mention that in 1.X every race (and both genders I think) had unique death animations. They even had stopping animations when you ran. They actually appear in cutscenes.

As a player, I feel insulted by him, behaving and speaking like we're a stupid flock of sheeps, making us pay for a sub for trash servers, putting a cash shop, pay for live shows, thinking we're too stupid to understand elemental wheels or teamplay, thinking everything would be too stressful for us poor souls when he created one of the most stressful game I've ever played, no houses for everyone.

He didn't make it according to 1.0 player ideas, he made what he wanted to do and he's still making what he wants to do, plain and simple, all the while pretending listening to the feedback. No misunderstanding here, only SE's typical new way of manipulating and lying to the players. I worked for them in EU, they're not some kind of angels all loving and caring for their dear players and this is exactly why I left, they do not care for nor respect their players, only play pretend.

And hey, it works, for the most part.

Seriously, those saying that 1.xx was better, it makes me wonder if they played it from the very beginning, where this documentary covers the many issues and failures that plagued the project? I'd be legitimately surprise if they were, and not where Yoshida came into the project and started the repairs.

I am truly curious why you'd keep playing a game you seem to hate so very much. Perhaps I've taken your words too harshly, but you've put down the current designers and devs and seem to truly dislike everything about it. My friends play golf, I never will because I find it boring and tedious. Why keep playing?

Some things that do get implemented are based off player feedback (though examples currently escape me, my mind is elsewhere). However, the problem is when you're dealing with such a wide variety of players, it creates a collective sense of "We don't know what we want" because everyone wants different things (which is natural, due to the way humans are all individual with their own thoughts, beliefs, and personalities). In that case, the devs have to trust their vision there. And speaking of vision, despite our feedback, they have a game-plan for how they want this game to be, and that will affect the overall direction of the game. Now that being said, I don't agree with all SE's practices (such as charging by the month for extra storage space, but hey it nets them a lot of profit so business wise it'd be stupid to get rid of it), but people still flock to this game, I daresay more people than there are legacy players. So business-wise, it makes sense for SE to cater to them, the casual market is a much bigger and lucrative market.

My friends, we've been playing together for 15 years so I'm just here to play with them. It doesn't take that much time anyway so I can cope with it since we're done after weekly farming and everyone goes back to FFXI or other games.

Interesting. That's admirable. I've stopped every game my friends play that I really don't like. There's gotta be some fun aspect for it for me to keep going. Diablo III for example. I bought it and played through all the default characters stories. Then the "seasons" started and it was just an insane gear grind that I hated. So I stopped. They still play but I'm not going to sit there and be frustrated just to put in "face time". We still voice chat, but we don't gotta be in the same game.

I think 1.0 would have been better if they worked on it. it was taking a good path.

the thing i can not stand on xiv is the fact that yoshi turned a final fantasy title in a massive casual game, and by definition an MMO can not be casual, because mmo requires time to sink in, into a long term achievement and goal.
Everything in ARR is extremely fast/dull/repetitive. People realize that we are playing the same pattern of content over and over trough years? Or They Do not see it?

Savage/Tomestone grinding/primals. Over and over and over. I was expecting a new life with Stormblood, but Yoshi didnt fail me into disappointing me. Everyone has its own taste, but i find extremely boring to do the same thing over and over. Once i bought Stormblood hoping for a very drastic change of direction (my bad) i got disappointed instantly. Level up to 70, do the primal, start farming tomestone (same exact thing i was doing before stormblood, with the exception of new areas, which again we all know how much open world count nothing in Xiv, so after u gather all aether currents you are basically done lookin at them).

And this is where i completely stopped playing, i shouldnt have renew my sub and bought stormblood, lesson learned, and next time i'll just check after the product is released. To me is unacceptable that the game does not offer any improvement, any new ideas, nothing remarkable justfying an expansion, everything is the same, all too easy, now there is going to be the same iteration of things over and over and over, a new savage, a new relic, then back to pattern of adding a primal and a new tomestone, over again.

On top of this, the classes disparity between tanks/healers/dps on queue is ridicolous, the overall combat is extremely dull flat and copy/pasted in between jobs. There is not enough difference to justify this amount of jobs to be honest. Gearing is the same for everyone with even shared set of gear, (poorly designed since coil era to be honest).
I just find this game not an mmo anymore, if i have to play a repetitive content/pattern im gonna play and farm Diablo 3. This game is not really that different from Diablo 3 for example.

But again, if this is what brings SE/Yoshi money, if this is what people want, then good for them and him, its just sad to me that they completely eradicated the meaning of MMO from a Final Fantasy title just to please a casual modern gaming community that wants instant reward.

I really wish I had played 1.0, it sounds like it was a beautiful mess of a game. Not to mention as an avid Minion/Mount collector I would kill for those Legacy mounts!

Memories, would almost start posting screenshots. But no, to theeee fuuuuuuuutuuure and beyyyyyyoooonnndddd! Live long and prosper 4.x

i wish we could take a party of people, take a quest pick a certain area, for example 1.0 Thanalan and just go exploring with friends, have a 30 minute timer or something. The adventurer in me wishes for this sooooo much lol

I honestly wish I could go back. Me and my wife both bought the game. pre-ordered the collector's edition only to install them on our pc's and when we went to run them got error messages that according to SE were related to our pc's video capabilities not being up to par for the game. At the time there were a few forums mentioning a very select few video cards being able to run the game. So saying players of the time killed the game kinda doesn't help. It's been almost 5 years. Alot changes. I'm running a MUCH better desktop now than I had then and find the graphics and animations from that version to be far superior the more I look into it.

The only thing I miss about 1.xx was the way miner and botanist were played as a game of itself. Sure, we have it now in the gold saucer, but thats only for MGP which I have enough of already :/

Ehh, he knows what has worked generally as far as the business of MMOs outside of the MMO itself. I don't mind that. I'm free to ignore it, after all.

While I do often feel like information is given to us almost coyly at times, perhaps post-Ghostcrawler, pre-Kaplan Blizzard had already inundated me to this. What disgusts me though is when he excused things by reasons that were obviously false or irrelevant. The way he hand-waved much of 1.x's design goals was one such area that especially pissed me off simply because those goals, not the implementation - mind you, resonated more closely with me than his own, and he seemed intent on burying or ignoring whatever parts he couldn't grandstand atop. I just really do not like when someone uses a prior team's disadvantages and purposely misrepresents their work in order to make themselves look better. There was no respect for or learning from the prior ideas for the game; he joined with increased authority, staff, and funding and laid himself almost definitionally in opposition to anything what came prior, as if labeling it all as the disease he was curing. And perhaps since then this has cast a poor shade for me over Yoshida as a producer/director, even more so than the complacency in design philosophy or any other broad game issue that would generally lie with the director and/or producer.

I wouldn't mind playing it just to witness the storyline for it but not much more than that. It did have loads of flaws I've be repeated told about... Be cool is SE can do like an event flashback thing so people could witness what it was all about. Might be cool that way??

I don't want 1.23b, I want it the way it was before Yoshida totally. Tanaka's version felt like it was the beginning of a sandbox version, just from character builds alone. I would give anything to have that version back and see it expanded on. So yes and no, if it's Tanaka's FFXIV then yes I would buy it in a heartbeat. If its 1.0 when Yoshida took over then absolutely not.

Remember when a group of conjurers got to lvl 50 in 8 hours healing eachother after aggroing a mob(and then got their levels reset for "exploiting" when they were just doing something the game was designed to do)? Or when you could kill an enemy and NOT get experience? Those were the days.

I never heard of that happening, so I'm not familiar with that. I can't fault the game for that, that's a bad judgement call from SE themselves. Nor do I remember neither my own self or others I knew not getting XP from a kill. I'm not gonna say it never happened cause even if I loved the Tanaka version it did have its fair share of bugs, glitches and terrible optomization. I still would buy a reboot of it in a heartbeat just cause I want to see what Tanaka really had planned for it to be, not the pre alpha release SE rushed out the door. Tanaka seriously felt like he was going for an open world sandbox FFXIV which could have been amazing, but we will never know. I just knew that after 1.23b hit and Yoshida dumbed down the combat that he was going to make whatever was planned into On Rails MM #837

Exp was RNG. You could get some on a kill, or not. There were no quests. All you had was guildleves. There were no beast tribes, or strongholds. There was just open maps with random mobs. There were no grand companies at the time, and heck, i don't even think chocobos were in the game.

1.0 before Yoshida was an awful "game" it wasn't even a sandbox, there was literally nothing to do.

Only if it was back to the old engine and design philosophy. It's not just the game, but the ideas behind the game has changed drastically since that time.
If I wanna play the old version, I wanna play it as it was, not as it will be.

I guess I had mahvoulous RNG then, and yeah you're right on all points. Hence why I said I don't want the pre alpha version SE shoved out the door, I want what Tanaka had planned if he was given the time to make it into what his vision was. I want Tanaka's version AFTER he was allowed to finish it.

I don't think he had a "vision" per se, they were just letting the different team members do their own thing, which is why it ended up such a mess. As for exp rng, that depends on when you started, at launch, you had only a chance upon skill usage of getting exp, and none dropped from mob kills.

What made version 1 really great was the community. Especially toward the end, the community was amazing because it was only the people who really cared about the game.

There were no whiners asking for nerfs or people who complained because they couldn't understand an elemental wheel or the difference between -ra, -aga and -aja. There were trolls, sure, you cant get away from them. But they were mostly contained here on the forums and didn't actually disturb the game that much. RMT were the real trolls of v1.

What little content we had was much more challenging and the world was dangerous. No one really complained much, they just enjoyed the game and seeing how the story played out.

You really cared for Eorzia in a way that 2.0 on really hasn't been able to recapture. Maybe it was the impending doom or the friendships one made. But nothing will compare to the experience that was FFXIV 1.x

I think Duty Finder and other cross-world party systems killed the community of each server.
When you want to do something you just click a button to find random people you'll never see again. Any sense of community doesn't exist with such features. :(

Community is made by the community. Duty finder being the problem with the community is just an excuse for people not wanting to put effort in, especially now with cross world being a thing.

While you're not wrong, the limitation of being only surrounded with your server mates made things a lot nicer. People weren't very quick to dismiss others because they'd have a much more lasting impact. Not to shine it in a negative way, but if yuou were some massive troll or jerk or similar you could expect to be shunned from content because nobody may want to play with you. As such, to protect ones self interests, they certainly put in that effort much more back in the day.

I agree. In v1 (and XI) I had a rather large group of people I ran around and did everything with. We were very active and constantly on the move.

Now I can go weeks without talking to another player outside "hello" and "Goodbye" which makes me want to log in less and less. I have joined more than 1 FC and left them due to just silence and reluctance to actually group for anything. Now I just have a solo FC.

I would love to find an FC where there are good times and content being tackled again but every FC I have joined that says they are like that, tend to be the most quiet. I am really biding my time for Pantheon and Ashes of Creation at this point unless I can find a good group. But after over 3 years since relaunch, I am not holding my breath anymore. I tried to make my FC into something good but I can't do it alone and finding others to help with leadership an FC has been impossible.

It's a real bummer since I have been here since beta v1 and really hate to leave but its just so mind numbing at this point.

This happened in XI to someone on my server. He was so notoriously horrible and abusive to people that the only people who would group with him were new players, and then only once. He became so notorious that he ended up rolling multiple accounts so he could party by himself as renaming wasn't an option.

He also was never able to complete anything story-wise or build a weapon that included any form of grouping. No one would e/r/m farm with him and if he did get invited by a new player to a party it was demanded he get kicked or most the party would leave. He was that toxic...

I think I'm the opposite. I'd love to see what the sandbox ideas could have accomplished with the time, staff, and funding given since their removal, especially if they'd gone even further into the living world and character customization ideas they originally had planned.
