To be fair, I will use it a decent amount in low level dungeons where I am locked out of most of my skills, but in higher level content.. It's just kind of worthless, unless yeah you have nothing else, for example the other healer is dead, and people are getting hit by more mechanics than they should. Normally I'll get more use out of my GCD using glare. Higher level dungeons I will use it sometimes, like using it after a holy or something, though.

I think I gave a story on here awhile back, one time I was called out for "not doing my job", "not healing", by the other healer. Everybody in the raid turned on me, except for one guy who was like "no, they were definitely healing" (admitted he was using... you know.. the thing).

In what content? Up to Lv51 you should use both Cure and Cure II for single-target heals because you don't have oGCD heals with short cooldowns yet. Cure II has higher potency, but Cure heals more per MP and occasionally allows a free cast of Cure II. Then you get Afflatus Solace (Lv52), Assize (Lv56) and Tetragrammaton (Lv60) in pretty quick succession, and those pretty much make Cure obsolete and relegate Cure II to occasional use. Thin Air at Lv58 helps with MP management too.

I should have clarified in max level content. People don't really understand white mage, unless they have played it. I roll my eyes how often it actually happens.

But this is correct. Cure 2 is always better to use than Cure 1 outside of extreme cases like being completely out of mana that you can't cast Cure 2 and need a heal right now. The only advantages that Cure 1 provides over Cure 2 (low mp cost and chance to proc guaranteed crit on next Cure 2) are not worth using it for. The proc chance is too low to be worth fishing for the proc which is also not strong enough to be worth fishing for, and while Cure 1's mp cost is more efficient in terms of healing per mp spent it's far less efficient in terms of dps. You're better off just casting a Glare/Stone/Holy until they drop low enough to need a Cure 2.

A tank from a different alliance hit me with a "w/e racist" when I called them out for dropping 2 tankbusters on my face in Pupper's Bunker.

No.

Freecure and Cure I are a new player trap. Cure II is better in almost all situations from lv30 onward due to being more GcD efficient. If you used Lucid on cd and run out of mana using Cure II, your tank was either taking silly amounts of damage and Cure wouldn't have kept up anyway, or you were over-healing.

That there are two people in DPS jobs (while in Aurum Vale) not using a single AOE skill throughout the entire dungeon at the same time.... What are the odds of that happening. I was so astounded I even laughed when that realization came, lol.

Forced me as a tank to pull little because poor me and the Healer, hahaha.

It's kinda funny, to be honest.

Another SoS run in Trials Roulette, another interesting run. Had a new tank and a new dps. Pointed out to the old tank to remember to lb3 and they said yeah I will. Got through the qte part and the tank accidentally set off the lb3 too early, so I assumed the worst.... Only for the new tank to somehow miraculously survive and, in turn, was enough to keep us from having to do Part 1 again. Definitely got my comm lol

As someone that has trained WHM up to level 68, I'd like to give my own two cents to the ongoing discussion, as far as post level 50 goes.

The way I learned, through Duty Roulette and party members counseling me, is to have Regen on the Tank and using Cure 2 in an emergency. I was also taught the Swiftcast+Holy combo for large trash pulls. Now, I have added my own way of doing things for this: for parties that are composed of close range DPS, Asylum is good for keeping party health up. Otherwise, Medica 2 and Cure 3 are good party heals. Thin Air is there for when things get really hairy.

I have recently gotten into the habit of using Afflatus Solace myself. Every use of that is MP saved on a Cure 2. My personal panic button is Benediction- usually on the Tank when they are cleaved to low health, or myself to keep from dying. I acknowledge that I probably still have a lot to learn, so anyone can add onto this if they want.

I was guilty of this when using my first job (Back Mage) coz Fire II sucked (imo). Then I thought I'd focus on single target spells from then on, but I'd use Foul if levelsync allowed me to. Was called out by the tank in Mt. Gulg, and they gave me the proper rotation for packs. Fixed my hotbar ofc.

For my tale, I got Dohn Mheg from DF leveling (first time doing this with real players). All three guys (even the sprout) made it through the tightrope part real quick while I still couldn't do it fast enough. XD

Imagine my surprise when it's a mentor who is the one that is always afk, or should I say, not actually afk. Just not doing anything. Cherry on top is picking up the slack healing, and getting zero commendations.

I've been running Copied Factory as DRK since I still don't have any of the minions. First run today was mostly uneventful, save for the MT dying a few times somehow (auto-pilot, I guess), and this:

My fellow tanks aimed precision strikes at my party and killed almost everyone, and I couldn't say for sure if they were trolling or if it was just an off day for them/they were on auto-pilot, or what. Regardless, I laughed more than I should have, but it made me wary of the Goliath tank section, so I grabbed one myself rather than leaving it for one of the other two. Finished without further issues.

Second run today, when it came time to tanking the 3 adds on 9S, I grabbed mine (was in C) and pulled it to the right, per usual. I and the rest of C watch the other two adds get tanked all the way on the left, and alliance chat exploded with (paraphrasing) "separate them" "don't group them up" "JFC", etc. We didn't wipe, but this back-and-forth went on for a few minutes before people calmed down. I was so distracted laughing at the ridiculous argument that I ate 3 vul stacks (not enough to kill me, but eh) during 9S's flying phase.

Still no bloody minion.

EDIT: Another run, much later. After so many times in C, my brain defaulted to it, so this, really, was inevitable...

Ended up trying to tank Cs add (was in B) at one point. Quick apology in alliance chat, but yeah, figured I was due for my own derp moment.

Oh no, during the last Moogle Tomestone event my partner and I were running the Ivalice raids over and over. We were going both as healers in case of Orbonne because we've had too many experiences of Thunder God wiping the alliance to the doom because the healers somehow just can't heal everyone fast enough.

We were in A so many times I went to A out of habit. We were in C. My partner healed everyone on his own for the first doom. Now we really don't understand how two healers working together could ever fail that mechanic.

Memory is failing me at the moment, but isn't the timer on Doom like, 15 or 10 seconds there? I usually give people the benefit of the doubt and assume they're having an off day (certainly had more than I care to admit), but it should be more than enough time to top everyone off. Guess they're just tunneling hard?

I'll say it was harder back in SB, either with a tighter time limit or just because we didn't heal for as much. And if you're new it can definitely take you off-guard. But then there's times where the SCH heals the party until the shield fills the health bar but nobody's actual hp is raised to full :rolleyes: Maybe having shields show on the health bars wasn't the best idea lol

Ah, shields... Yeah, I can see that. I typically ran/run as WHM, so that hadn't immediately occurred to me. My sympathies. XD

So yeah... on the third week I finally did Puppet's Bunker, or whatever it's called. It was a... pretty bad.. run for my alliance, putting it mildly. Not all my fault! A lot probably was my fault though.. :(

Someone double stacked on our alliance so we were dead for pretty much half of the entire second (?) boss fight. Last boss I got revived like four times, and of those four times I got hit with a mechanic immediately... it wasn't pretty.. :o

OH, forgot to add, at one point my co-healer rescued me thinking it was the safe spot.. and we both died. I was pulled OUT of the safe area. It was pretty hilarious.

This is one of the reasons I don't use rescue in raids. I'm not confident in my ability to discern safe spots. XD

Did Yojimbo the other day for the first time, played Astrologian. That fight was a hectic mess and I feel like it went so poorly. At one point he hit us with a move that killed everyone but the White Mage and two tanks. White Mage raised me, I raised the Red Mage, and we recovered. Others, including myself, continued to drop periodically. I think I died maybe half a dozen times. But hey, we still beat it on the first try, and someone thanked the healers for the good job, and I still got three commendations, so maybe it wasn’t as bad as it seemed to me.

Did Tam Tara yesterday leveling up Bard. Other DPS was a higher level Bard, who promptly asked for boss to boss pulls. Conjurer was like I’ve never healed before. Paladin compromised with double pack pulls, which I’m not sure I’ve actually seen in Tam Tara before, but it went super smoothly, and I enjoyed listening to the constant thwip thwip thwip thwip thwip thwip of double Archer AoEs.

Working on Stormblood for my LP alt, at 4.3 and working through all the raids. Did Rabanastre and Ridorana yesterday. Rabanastre was uneventful, and it was even faster than average. Ridorana on the other hand took about as long as it did for a good party at release. Either newbies or trolls for the second boss kept turning the radial corner cleaves inwards on the party, killing many people. People with the slow/burn tethers kept dragging them through the entire raid. Gunbreaker in my party wanted to tank every and had a WHM sycophant backing him up. At the final boss, we got to adds and either the WHM's Medica II or his Aurora caused all adds to descend on them, tethering together. C got their add off, but A's tank was dead, so we wiped.

Next go of it, the WHM got petrified and our other healer refused to heal the GNB, so the GNB died. So I tanked B add on SAM for over 2/3rds of its life thanks to Bloodbath. We cleared that time, but I saw a buncha people get shooed off the edge each Cyclone, so seems like a bunch were failing Magnetic Lysis. At least the Tide Pod guy and Math-Robot went fine.

Had a bit of an eccentric WHM in Heroes' Gauntlet. I was tanking on GNB. He was extremely damage-focused and my health routinely hovered below 50% during trash pulls. At one point when my HP dropped to around 10k I used Superbolide, and I think at the exact same moment he used Benediction, which was unfortunate but tends to happen in these situations. He asked me to "never loose my multi" and after asking for clarification I found out he meant using Superbolide. I told him I wouldn't need to use it if my HP wasn't so low. He commented that "if u don't die your HP can drop ^^". While that's technically true, I would feel safer and more confident if my HP stayed at least above half most of the time. He was quite polite in chat though and the only death was when the WHM himself failed some mechanic (no wipe, me and the dps finished it), so overall a pretty successful run. I just don't think that kind of tactics with letting the tank's HP drop are really appropriate in a roulette with a tank you don't know. When I'm healing I generally try to keep the tank's HP near full until the trash is nearly finished and it's evident the tank will survive without further heals.

Honestly i get why and its fine premade, but im gettin tired of savage healers pushing damage with their glare /we while half the party is sub 50% just bc theire too lazy for one aoe heal/regen/shield... On the 5.3 trial im at the point to vercure my self several times cause im gettin sick of dropping dead cause the healer didnt heal at all...

Yeah, if you're playing with people you know and trust, feel free to optimize to your heart's content. With randoms though? Better play it safe and throw in a couple of extra heals than risk a wipe.

If people are dying from the lack of healing, call them out on it? Healers that only do their 2 button dps rotation aren't "savage healers" since those can usually do both efficiently.

Did you die? Nope. Then there's no problem. If you want a healer who will babysit your HP, get a healer friend and queue with them. In duty finder you're sometimes going to get skilled healers who don't heal more than necessary, it happens. Personally, when I tank, I regularly push myself and the healer to our limits. If I'm not dead, then I'm fine.

Ran Puppets Bunker as a BLM. We load in, a few of is say hello and then the other BLM we had in the party asked me if I was there for the coat. They didnt even give me enough time to respond before they left the duty. I actually wasnt there for the coat. I was pretty much just there for fun...

All right then, how do I tell it's a skilled healer who's about to Bene me from 10k to full health so I don't need to use Superbolide? This is DF so you pretty much have to assume no communication.

You pretty much can't tell until something happens. other than that if you haven't died so far you should trust the healer until they give a reason for you not to trust them. This is just an extremely good healer, I don't really get the complaint here.

I got pretty spooked out by the last boss in the Puppet's Bunker. Everything about it was so creepy to me, I feel my skin crawls. The sound it make during the cut scene...just no.

I just had someone take something way too personally in a duty lol.

Doing the new dungeon and everyone is doing well. Literally no issues at all and every one is meeting if not exceeding expecatations for dps and doing all the mechanics correctly. We get to the second boss and it goes smoothly like normal, but I notice that people (both the dps in this case) are spreading for all the zombies when it's more efficient to stack the orange tethered ones and then spread for the red tethered ones. Gives more space, less movement needed for melees, etc. Seeing people spread for it is very common since it's not necessarily an immediately obvious better way to handle it, so I always just mention it if I see it happen to help spreads it throughout the playerbase in the hopes it will become more common. I wait until after the fight and mention it in chat.

The dancer took this as a personal attack apparently because here's the chat that followed for the rest of the dungeon. Guess which player was the one that didn't give me the commendation? ;) (Mine went to the tank because they were awesome.)

To respond to your last statement, offenended Dancer, I didn't Esuna you because I used Whispering Dawn instead. It's an oGCD so it cost me no dps and more than offset the DoT that was in no way coming close to even being a flesh wound on you. I was also using Art of War, not Broil III fyi, since it's during a mass pull. Cheers!

And if it wasn't a good healer? Would it have been better to take a probable wipe and blame the healer afterwards than use Superbolide, wasting the healer's Benediction but having everyone survive?

Also, I get that if you have Bene available you may want to let the tank's HP drop to get maximum utility out of it. But this healer was constantly letting my HP stay at like 20-30% and wasn't healing when they could easily have used Afflatus Solace or Tetragrammaton without risk of overhealing. You have to heal the same total amount anyway, so why not keep the tank's HP a bit higher? I only recall noticing Benediction that one time. And there wasn't quite as much Holy spam as I'd have expected from a WHM either.

That logic is sound, at least up to a certain point. For example, I had a healer the other night for my daily expert who would let my HP sink to uncomfortable lows (20k and under most times). Initially, I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they would keep me alive. However, as my HP reached more critical levels I had no choice but to Superbolide. In my opinion, if my healer is good then I have no need for it. I had done the same type of pulls a fair number of times prior with no problems. The only thing I needed was my defensive CDs. Then this healer came along and gave me a heart attack every single pull, despite the fact that I was using Super as needed and cycling through my CDs. I never died, but good lord did they make me nervous. There wasn't really much trust to be had. I don't know what their deal was, but either their connection was poor or they need to step up their game. Playing "how low can you go" with your tank's health is not a fun time, at least from a tank's perspective.

Had another WHM in Heroes' Gauntlet just now. This time my HP stayed in the 50-70% range most of the time. So no overhealing, but no feeling that I'm one hit from death either. The run was really fast as well. IMO a much better experience than the previous run.

Finally did a Ridorana run where I don't die. I usually die to construct's chest laser and when I sometimes lag. No lag and no deaths. And, if by some weird design, I got 4 commendations...on a DNC. XD

I'd like to think they were happy as well that I didn't die lol. Still didn't get the minion on an 80 roll tho...

Just now i had another 5.3 ex trial run... ugh... my tank died 4x on adds as the healer did let him drop till 20% the only times he didnt die i was using vercure lol

I know its a mess to heal when everyone is spread and tanks gettin huge dmg but dam, toss a regen, use the shield, anything... and dont hard cast a ress with 2 rdm and a smn when everyone would need a heal xD

Except for Hallowed Ground, I pretty much have an HP threshold where I will use my immunity regardless of what the healer is going to do. Basically it's when my HP is low enough that I know the next round of autos will kill me. In Heroes' Gauntlet it seems pretty far out there. None of the pulls get really big or dangerous. Lots of the monsters stop to cast AOEs or spells, so out going damage is very slow and low. I haven't had to use an immunity in there yet. Not that I wouldn't. I just haven't hit a threshold where I would.

When I heal I tend to throw my regens or shields on the tank liberally, while trying to DPS as much as possible. I don't like to let tanks get low though, because in my experience, most tanks do not make good use of their cooldowns. This has pretty much always been the case. On the rare occasion that I do get a good tank, it's better than sex. It's not often though, and baby tanks getting real common these days. I have lost count of PLDs who Clemency when they get down from 150k HP to 120k HP. It's silly. If you can't stand your HP bar getting low, don't play tank. It comes with the territory.

Yeah, Hero's Gauntlet is really chill to heal even compared to how easy healing stuff is in general. It's definitely because of all the different ground AoE's that go out because those mobs stop what they're doing while they execute it, and when the AoE does go off they either hit no one (e.g. Bard and Black Mage AoEs) or they just hit the one target who isn't the tank so what damage there is gets nice and spread out among the party (i.e. the Dragoon's jump attack.) And of course there's those 2 forced single pulls at the very end.
