so is voip, so is fraps, should those be banned as well and those that use them be persecuted? Hundreds if not thousands of people use a parser which has absolutely zero affect on game play

"Your" not "you", and yes, it's OUTSIDE of the game, and isn't giving me the upper hand in anyway.
2nd, the people who made the program got approval, which I'm sure programs like parser and FFXIVmodelviewer etc. didn't (let alone SE's huge cease and desist orders flying around 2 years back against those programs, yet the programmers who got slapped with them put them right back up.)
Thing is, they technically can ban you for using fraps or even a macro keyboard -- but will they? No. The ironic thing about "Parsers have zero effect on gameplay is" people tend to use parser and gearscore type things to exclude players, rather than using it to help them, so it doesn't give you an advantage, but it sure can hurt someone's playtime by excluding them if they don't "outparse" someone else.
I think the point is: You use the same name as an old linkshell that has a bad reputation (and share a few members from that time) you're going to share their reputation. It doesn't matter if it's true or not, it's hard to avoid it.
It's like naming your linkshell "Dragon Quest" and then claim that none of you are fans of the series or even played it. It can be true. Maybe you just thought the name sounded cool. Maybe the old members were actually Dragon Quest fans but aren't on the shell anymore, and the new ones really had nothing to do with that.
Regardless, if I see someone on that linkshell, I'd assume they are Dragon Quest fans. It's a logical association.

NOUKIN are #1, Order of the Blue Garter are placed at #40.
do they? I've yet to see this. now, I have seen party leaders put up parse results in party chat after a fight. But it's more like "Look at how much more damage x player is doing than you, so step it up homie!" just blacklist jackasses who kick people for parse results, who wants to play with that type of asshat anyway?
Difference of parser vs something like fraps.
Parser messes with and analyzes the game's log files, which is against the terms of service.
All fraps does is record whatever the hell is onscreen, and doesn't mess directly with game files.
One can get you banned. The other cannot.
And more to the point seems like people are now grasping at straws and using the parser to keep crying hacks because they have nothing else to use as ammo. Quite petty if you ask me.
What? I'm saying the people who didn't move to WoW with the rest of the original leaders that did should have reformed and changed the LS name from something other than what we established. That way they wouldn't have given the LS name such a bad name.
I mean, it would make sense for them to have done that, no?
It's unfortunate that it happened, but at this point you can't really change the past.
I'm not saying you guys should change your name now or whatever, just trying to explain why people would associate you guys with them and why changing that rep isn't as simple as posting "no we don't".
That said, I wouldn't worry too much about what others think about this at all.
oh lord, another person that doesn't seem to read the TOS and tries to justify the usage of third party tools, even if SE doesn't allow it...
Using third party programs or tools in FINAL FANTASY XIV is strictly prohibited since they allow users to gain an unfair advantage over other players. The use of programs or tools within FINAL FANTASY XIV that allow certain continuous actions to be performed automatically are often referred to as absentee play, which is also prohibited in FINAL FANTASY XIV. Additionally, during the course of an absentee play investigation, players may be requested to respond to or comply with a GMs instruction. Failure to do so is consider a violation and may result in disciplinary action being taken against the account.
The following activities are also prohibited in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
•Modifying, analyzing, integrating and reverse engineering game data
•Utility creation and distribution
•Exploiting SQUARE ENIX programming that does not run as intended to gain profit or damage other players
Using FFXIVpro for rankings is downright laughable. Score is all members added up, LS with 150 members has advantage over LS with 10 members. Also it doesn't update scores. My score is still 41k on pro when it should be closer to 92k.
Also Parser reads files on your computer, sig generators read information off websites.
When referring to "game data" in the ToS its not talking about files in gives you, its talking about the actual programming of the game file's, the packets it sends etc. The output log files do not fall under "game data" and if they didn't want players to have access to them, they wouldn't have the game output them in the first place.
This thread is on fire... someone quick! Get an extinguisher!
I can't speak for everyone but in my opinion the Blue Garter name is not something that needs to be distanced from the current LS members.
I joined BG in FFXIV, but I remembered them from FFXI and WoW. To me the BG name is synonymous with excellent game play and dedication. The BG named attracted me to the LS.
The core BG players enhance the BG name with each new influx of content in FFXIV, and this builds on an already strong presence in FFXI and WoW.
Obviously there has been a large amount of mud slinging in this thread, but thousands of gamers look to BG for the best strategies. They check BG before making expensive or time-consuming gear choices to ensure that they're maxing out their character as best they can. This is the same now as it was for many years in FFXI and WoW. It has always been a highly public group of people, and focusing on the negative isn't going to tarnish my admiration for all of the things its founding members and current core membership have accomplished.
I'll do it live!
you conveniently forgot to bold this part.
Also people have been using it for over a year now even posting screens of parser results, yet SE does nothing about it, in fact SE links BG as one of the best gaming communities in official letters.
Cry all you want you are grasping at straws by trying to use a parser as a way of crying hacks
Twentytwo just getting trolled by haters now, not sure why you're even responding lol
Why is a linkshell recruitment thread still up on the general forums?? Am I the first to point this out?
Calling a parser a hack is really grasping at straws guys. I have to agree there. Everyone I know that cares about their performance in-game uses one.
No one is crying "OMGHAXX!" It's the fact that it still lies under "Third Party Tool" usage against the TOS, it doesn't have to give anyone an unfair advantage, not only that, it analyzes game data, something that was also mentioned in the TOS.
The creators of the parser already had cease and desist orders by SE before anyway.
I like talking to you guys. ô¿ô
Brown nosing aside I just wanted to communicate my particular opinion, that the BG name is something I'm proud of. People suggesting that we might want to change the name of the LS because it's got a bad reputation makes me want to provide my own perspective.
Please read what I posted.
Also if you want to define that BGParser as a 3rd Party Tool that manipulates game data (which it doesn't) you could then say everyone using
Window's Operating System
Should be banned because hitting Alt+Tab+Delete to bring up task manager to Force Crash the application (Quicker log out than PS3 players! Unfair Advantage!) and to possibly monitor RAM usage is also abusing a Third Party Application.
Not to mention you have an entire sub-forum on this very website with players actively analyzing what you deem to be as "game data"Quote:

Edit: @Aster
Ok so just curious about this.
If i were to go into my FFXIV logs folder on my computer and read the combat logs that the game itself creates, analyse the data shown in those logs and work out the breakdowns for damage done, crit chance, hit chance, min damage, max damage, average damage etc etc in my head and wrote them down.
Would that be against the TOS in your opinion?
Because it amuses me to think that my brain could be considered a "Third Party Tool".
Im not sure I want to read it. As much as I like to use the BG website to get my questions answered by "the pros", the BG people themselves are kind of pretentious epeeners. I like to get them to help me when I need strategic advice etc, but I keep them at an arms length otherwise.
