There are certainly some things that would fit.

- strong female character (wuk lamat) whose basically only flaw is that she does not believe in herself enough because she lived in the shadow of her brothers (males)
- big bad male bully (bakool) (toxic male) who suddently get redeemed as soon as he submits to wuk lamat because he accepts she is just superior to him in any way
- koana the science/smart guy who first talks down to her (toxic male) but later turns out to be a total siscon and also submits to her becoming extremely submissive giving up on the throne despite being the obviously better choice
- soraal ja (another toxic male type) who is so stupid and stubborn that he refuses to submit to the strong female character and thus has to die but luckly for some reason left behin his little clone to become wuk lamats pet
- otis another toxic male who values stupid male stuff like honor and valor thus also has to die (twice) in really stupid ways ...
- gulool jaja who also has toxic male energy liking to fight strong enemies for fun which annoys wuk lamat. just exists to orchestrate her becoming the new ruler and then is killed off as he is no longer useful and its her time to shine

another sign of DEI influence is usually the putting down / mishandling of old beloved characters (like the scions)
- all scions immediately love wuk lamat for no reason calling her lamati and stuff
- estinien pretty much demoted to the "comedy relief" character and with the exception of the gondola scene the same is also true for graha
- thancred and urianger could be replaced by 2 generic npcs and it would not change anything
- alphi and alisae degraded to wuk lamat cheerleaders
- y'shtola -> exposure cat
- vrtra -> dragon ex machina
- erenville and krile standign on the sidelines while wuk lamat is girlbossing through the 2nd half of the msq
- the ultimate disgrace for krile

As i understand all the core members of the staff were spread out on SE other projects, hoping to fix their catastrophic financial disaster. FF14 was their only (kinda) succesfull project so they took very talented people to make 3 more of those only to abandon FF14 in... this state.
I myself had enoth of DT story and dev responds crap (music and duties are amazing though) and cancelled my sub till 7.1. Ill give them 1 more chance to fix: story, Woke Lamat, PVP ballance, job stuff (dancer, BLM...) If this team can not provide what we, players, want the most, then they can wait for those other projects to make them cash like last hits of the market: Concord, Dustborn, Acolyte... you name them.
P.S. I LOVED EW past MSQ content. i Loved Zero. I really wished she can be a scion because of so much potential. Instead we are praying to every possible god for Woke Lamat to NOT become a main character.
P.P.S. They did EVERY scion dirty. And DT trailer was so misleading i almost want to sue for false advertisemnt.

I myself saw Soyny drowning in this MODERN CULTURE for so long and thanked Naoki Yoshida for being a SHIElD of this game from that nonsence. We can only hope it doesn't continue to spread.

If all else fails you can always try Final Fantasy XI, its far too old to have woke stuff added to it, and at the rate things are going the first online FF game will outlast the modern one anyway.

At least so far the gathering DT quests are a good story...but who knows how long that'll last...(And after FSH is 100, i'll get CUL to 100 I want to see how the Juice lady story is, and will likely try the other gathering and crafting stories)

I actually agree on them ignoring mentally ill people. We just disagree on who we consider mentally ill.

What they should not ignore is how "successful" all this recent DEI game releases have been including their own:
- Forspoken (big losses)
- Suicide Squad kill the Justice Leage (studio shut down)
- all the recent Ubisoft releases (just look at their stock price)
- Concord (shut down in a few feeks after bein 8 years in development and i wonder if that studio will survive?)
- Dustborn, Flintlock, ...

if this "modern audience" is so important, then why are they not showing up to support the games that were made for them ?
all new IPs with DEI seem to fail horribly so they try to wriggle their way into established IPs to shove their ideology down our throats while screeching hate on twatter towards anyone that speaks up about their beloved IPs being ruined.

And as someone that actually likes shounen animes i do not really consider DT a shounen story. If this was supposed to be a shounen manga type story then the writer does not really understands what makes this type of stories actually interesting.
No one would like a character that fails their way to the top without properly earning it.

Its not just bad writing, its the presentation. I think its bad design to go 3 or more hours without combat. They had a huge opportunity to introduce an at sea battle on your way to Tural.

The MSQ being average to below average is not all that bad. If this expansion is anything like stormblood in terms of post MSQ and content, then the future is looking bright.

It's not a Shounen Story, that's an excuses I've been seeing people trying to defend it using to justify the bad story. But they don't understand what a shounen story is and why it isn't one, and when explained they ignore the explanation. This is a story about an unlikeable character failing their way to the top, and we're forced to go along with it and cheerlead for them.

This feels like we have a repeat of the FFXIII Lightning situation all over again, a writer or director has gotten way to attached to a character that nobody else likes, and is in a position to push that character onto everyone.

The glimmer of hope we have is that, thanks to the CEOs idiotic mistake of trying to hard push NFTs and "other" very public failings, they can't really afford to have FFXIV die off now. It's too much of a money maker for them. So they'll probably try and course correct. Now what's important is who's doing the course correct, if it's Exec that's a problem as they pushed NFTs and clearly have no idea what the average person wants. If it's the (Anti-)"Ethics" Department that's always a problem, they most likely are the ones who called for SBI's involvement in some games, and are pushing DEI. Which is being proven to be a death kiss to games right now. So the best bet for everyone is to put it in the hands of Devs that actually care, and right now it's hard to say who that might be.

Even then, you can't really say "It's for kids" because in order to get that far in you have to get through HW, ShB, and EW. With HW having multiple on screen deaths and sufferings and Haurchefant sacrificing himself and dying in your arms, ShB featuring at least one scene that was clearly meant to be a horror scene of someone transforming into a Sineater. And EW... EW featured a Military Leader clearly not using a Rubber Bullet on himself, once it was clear there was no winning the war everything had gone wrong for his nation. Then it follows up with people transforming into monsters which is some how less horrifying than it was in ShB.

The recent YoshiP interviews have extinguished this glimmer of hope for me tbh. It just seems that he no longer cares at all about this game and it seems SC3/SE just takes FF14 being successful as granted. Do they really think the sunk cost fallacy will just keep the cash cow going while they remove all the talents that made this game great from their positions and have the interns / new hires feed us generic slop according to the established and streamlined "FF14 formula"?
Is this really the same YoshiP that cried in a LL apologizing that he had to delay EW release because of a minor issue in the msq he had to have fixed? I will for sure be watching the next LL but i have 0 expectations and expect it to be business as usual without addressing anything.

After all that we have rubber bullets, oh so dead parrots who are clearly not suffering and can make a festival. The Deadly Hurricane from that Simpsons army recruiting clip is nowhere to be seen and only works as plot device to break the ladder to the next part of a zone. Cheerful Naruto style protagonist, who unlike the 7th Hokage does not meet any hardships. The attack on a Tural that supposedly only killed 4 people. Disney princess cooperation on building a train... We can continue on and on. This is exactly our problem with writer: After all those serious and heartbreaking moments we arrive to THIS.
DisneyTrail in its fulest. Modern Disney too. Old one had so many dark moments as well. Now the worst thing that can happen with characters is a ruined taco or a rain at the wrong time.

This thread is based on a narrative that was pre-typed and predisposed to the square enix development team, by me, over a decade ago to warn the developers of what rival companies to do try and illicit responses.

This was a thread that was actually, initially, supposed to be posted shortly after the Shadowbringers launch.

I will not be checking for replies nor arguing with anyone. I sent this to the square enix chain of emails quite some time ago, I wonder if they ever received it.

To clarify for passers by: This is what 'reviews' are, in our modern era. FFXIV is the only MMORPG doing exceedingly well, most people are secretly not allowed to post on forums and feedback hubs because of ongoing activity in real life that sees you confronted with difficulties when doing so, read my signature and you'll probably lose a large amount of emotion from your head because of a specific term there - That's how bad technology has gone.

Regardless, let me explain Dawntrail to you:

It's a self-aware content based theme. It's literally meant to torment you and make fun of the process of fantasy games whilst being the practical end-all-be-all fantasy platform for MMORPG's. Have you noticed that every other game is just a runaround to lead you elsewhere or take your money and fly away? Kickstarter scams, failing 'trillionaire corps' and etc. It just doesn't make much sense. For instance the big B company - How can you release content that has any issue at all after making billions of dollars decades ago. It doesn't make sense, you're just not allowed to think about it.

Everything in Dawntrail is hilarious. It's because of conduct that the team witnessed regarding people of intellectual capacity within the (mostly) North American communities. They do watch and analyze that information, why wouldn't you?

Most of you don't get it. It's incredibly obvious and you can tell by the tone and features of this expansion that it's literally making lighthearted fun of just how bad the real world is, through the fantasy universes boundaries.

It's also making fun of a lack of intellectualism throughout the modern world in comparison to technology: There's a presentation of technology of an ancient iteration that is immediately resulting of hilarious conundrum in a world were we just used a super-tech to achieve boundary breaking revelations where it took us, to prevent spoilers.

Play the game if you're curious. If you get it and enjoy it, you get it and enjoy it.

If you're offended by what is presented you don't get it.

At the end of all of it this platform could very well be just another pit to put people but because this expansion is content-aware of it's surroundings outside of it's universe, I personally wonder if they're a part of that structure. It's unfortunate that it exists. It's not a tinfoil hat theory, and again, I am not checking nor monitoring for replies. It's the way this failure of modern communications era exists as. - The fact that there's a post that follows a narrative of {ORIGINATING LOCALIZATION} wants {DIRECTORNAME} to step down!! {CONTENTNAME} is {NEGATIVVE} for {THESE REASONS} is kind of laughable. Do you know anyone else in real life that plays these games? I don't. I don't know a single person. It's all nonsense, here. In Japan? Maybe real activity. Why not? I'm not saying to had it over to Yoshi-P per say. Just to someone that might actually care enough to get it back on track. At this point we could speculate on who would be the best choice, but everyone we could think of would come with potential problems and unknown choices. If I had to choice, personally, I'd probably want them to hand it over to Yoji Fujito, the current Producer of FFXI, and Akihiko Matsui. Yoji has clearly done good with keeping FFXI going, idk if that'll relate to FFXIV but I could hope, and Akihiko has been working on FF games since 3, and while he was a Lead Battle Planner and Battle System Director for 1.0, he was also a Battle System Director for ARR and has been given Special Thanks for every expansion since except DT. Considering we need the combat system reevaluated and pulled back to a better state I think this would make the most sense for who to bring in to fix things.

I don't think it's for anyone. Cash Shop items aren't an excuse to justify DT's childish story, because the actual expectation is that you'll play through all the previous stories before getting to DT and the skips would be for Alts.

Agreed - stories written for children still abide by the basic rules of storytelling, and having a child audience doesn't equate to the story being bad. Dawntrail doesn't follow any rules - its main character has no meaningful arc, the conflict is weak, there's no actual climax in the plot (there are multiple almost-climaxes, and they're all poorly done), and the stakes are simultaneously all over the place and yet somehow nonexistent. The tone is very juvenile and conflicts are resolved quickly, which I think is where the point of it feeling like a children's story comes from, but I've seen actual children's stories deliver a moral far more gracefully than DT did.

When you think about it, some of our best modern stories are meant "For kids", and that's partially because they have to be kept relatively simple and straightforward while still hitting all the story beats which have appealed to people for the last 5,000 years. Avatar TLA is undoubtedly for kids, but has some of the best character arcs I've seen in a TV series. Same with Star Wars. George Lucas intentionally made it for 12 year olds, but he made sure to follow the heroes' journey and hit all the important story beats.

Dawntrail wasn't written for anyone except the writer. It was clearly so he could pleasure himself to his furry waifu while she ran around being the bestest evar with her only impediment being her lack of realization that she was the bestest evar.

It's even more embarassing to imagine that people READ this script, and at no point did anyone go "Hey guys, maybe this isn't that good." prior to release, especially with new writers in the house.

This is what worries me the most. There are issues with the writing that a single editor could have caught within seconds. Nothing in this world can convince me that Ishikawa especially, one of the most gifted writers in the games industry IMO, would have greenlit this disaster. What on earth happened in that writers' room??

While it's just purely speculation, there IS always the chance that re-writes happened, or that Hiroi could've just been stubborn and constantly going "We're doing this no exceptions" with certain ideas when making and presenting the script that eventually Ishikawa and Oda just had to say yes to the script that Hiroi wrote up, lest they risk potentially delaying the expansion. Hell, it could even be a combination of both given how little direction the English voice actors seemed to have had with line delivery and how some of the characters sounded "phoned in" to some players, so I wouldn't be surprised if certain things were changed around even during the very last minute.

It's all speculation in the end and if said speculations are somewhat true then I don't think Yoshi-P and the devs are too keen on saying it straight out to avoid a PR Nightmare.

Their best bet would be to let Hiroi, and certain other Toxic individual, go, and then "Leak" it to the public that they won't be returning. There are numerous problems with DT, from the Script to the class designs to "others", but there are only a few individuals that we can point at specifically as a problem.

Or it could just be another example of an toxic positive environment. Maybe some people did see a problem, but didn't want to say it because "we're all part of the team".

But tbh, I'm leaning more toward interference. I'm no shy from criticizing the current writers, and has been pretty loud about it. But sometime I feel it's almost irrational to believe a professional writer can be "THIS" bad. And given all the inconsistency sprinkle all over the place throughout the MSQ which ... again, again feel impossible to fathom for a team of writers to not see it. So while I don;t know if it's true or not, and I have no evidence to offer beside conjecture ... but this mess we call DT is reek of inference, either from clueless executive decision or brainless consultants that have no idea what the story is supposed to be about. I feel "last minute butchering" is the most feasible explanation for what happens in DT.

Bad news. Unconfirmed Rumor is they swapped over to another group called Hit Detection, which does a lot of the same DEI focused stuff as SBI, but without being as well known.

Disastrously for the skin fearing and right wing extremists square enix understands trends and population numbers. If square enix is ran by professionals they can easily identify the 4chan criminal element surrounding the fringe campaign on the forum and other platforms in regards to square enix deciding to use a voice actress that doesn't look like them and/or is a stand-in for a different race. As the above shows, it's not about Hiroi's writing.
