If you don't then that's fine, I'm not gonna go out of my way to make you feel bad and the door is always open. I can't convince people to act differently to show there are ways to make it a more positive experience...because it takes a lot of effort to set aside things culturally but if it inspires some to change their approach about this debate so we can show more responsibility in regarding others so that the tool could be put in the game, in the end that's worth it.

I didn't latch on to them because they have a negative opinion about parsing. I don't care what people think about parsing. If people wan't to have a negative opinion about parsing, that's alright. I can get behind being a purest in this situation, even if I don't agree with it. It was about coming into a thread, and immediately starting with a bad attitude, threats, and claiming your God's gift to DPS players. What I gave them was a dose of reality.

Ok, and what do you expect to be done about twitch streamer audience regardless if there is a DPS meter or not? And how many toxic twitch streamers are there for FF14 with a decent size audience? Very few if any. If they are making nasty remarks and it stays contained on twitch and doesn't bleed into the game, and you never hear about it, is it affecting you? Kinda hard to get mad about something if you're not even aware you are being talked about.

Extreme trial/Savage raid not going well and people leave or party disbands? most of the time people don't say anything and just leave a party that isn't clearing. That's a neutral interaction. Sure you get that one person who complains about how bad the party is, but that's not that common, as again, most people leave the party. Ah dag nabbit! I did it again. People leaving a failing EX/Savage party are obviously the most TOXIC of them all. How dare they not stick around to carry the low performers! THE AUDACITY.

You act like there is rampant toxicity in this game. Reality check: It isn't. And I only say report them because people in these threads demand SE take action. What do you suppose they should do? Call the local police and tell them how toxic the toxic person is being? Personally, I rarely report, even when I do run into someone really rude. Data centers are large. Chances I'll see someone again is extremely small, so small it's practically a zero percent chance I'll see them again. If anything, I blacklist and move on with my day. But if you are experiencing a lot toxicity in this game, a lot more than other people, well there's only one common denominator for those situations, and it's YOU. Maybe you need to ask yourself, why am I experiencing a lot of toxicity, and think long and hard about it. You want to call me ignorant? Please. don't make me laugh. Asking for ppl to be on the same page/skill level as you is not toxic, imo.

Players will continue to parse and posts parse meters on streams. They will not get banned. There was nothing stalwart about it.

Really I just want Square to give me more feedback if I'm playing well enough to do content, even if it's biased by what they as a team interrupt how the game should be played, and is in the game by default. I want to know if I'm good enough for Savage from their intended designs.

I have had the thought of having something like a training dummy that records your job, iLevel, and rotation and compares it to what that role is designed to put out for the current tier. If you meet that requirement you get a green check mark or something. No upfront numbers, just a binary yes or no is all I want. Ideally it could be another optional party finder filter too, but I understand that could turn into a toxic thing itself though.

Either the fundamental mentality behind how high end content is inherently designed needs to be changed to be accessible and less about DPS interactions, or we need more internal feedback on our own individual performance in relation to intended game design. Without doing something I feel Square is directly contributing to toxic growth within the community.

People value DPS because it's the primary game play interaction and barrier. It becomes the focal point because getting a clear throughout the rest of the game, from dungeons to MSQ, is the only real binary feedback you get that you performed well enough. I really feel like more in-game feedback could help a lot. People end up going to outside resource because the game isn't teaching well enough on its own.

I'm really tired of seeing the quiet, passive-aggressive toxicity that parties can have. Things like parties being disbanded and reformed without the silently decided person "holding everyone back" feels counter to the spirit of the game. It doesn't really help keep that healthy, helpful communication I've known in my time of playing.

My personal two cents here: if you parse green/blue, you’re absolutely fine in my book. I’ve been raiding with arguably the most hardcore FCs in the EU since ARR’s release. My individual parses have never been particularly great and probably never will be outside of casual content as many years of old MMOs has hard wired me to be highly cautious and risk adverse at the expense of GCD efficiency and DPS. These threads would have you think that a casual scrub such as myself wouldn’t last 5 minutes in the end game but yet here I am. Pull your weight, don’t be a primadonna, be consistent and above all. Be reliable. You’ll do absolutely fine as long as you go with a group that’s appropriate to your ability and schedule.

Back on topic. I suspect most sensible people share my opinion that someone parsing at 50% is absolutely fine for the majority of the game. Personally I’d love the meter for when you inevitably get someone who simply isn’t active nor making any semblance of an effort appropriate to the content.

There is no excuse for those that do less than a 5th of my damage on a single target on end game content. None whatsoever. As a healer or even a tank that kind of inactivity often causes very immediate and problematic issues with the run. Yet DPS are coddled and allowed to get away with shockingly low APM numbers and inactivity? No ta. There’s no defence against that in my eyes.

I'll go ahead and say I was only bring up their dps only because they were being super rude to me so I was only firing back where it hurts(Probably should have just been an adult and let it be but its late at night and I had nothing better to do). Just want to make it clear I have no problem with people that are green and blue. As I been raiding since alex creator and had MANY static member that parse blue to know you can get by with a blue parse average.

Oof, here we go, as soon as the subject "parsing" comes up, people start quarrelling... I can only agree with YoshiP, the best is to keep parsers for yourself (if you find it useful to improve) and your static raids (for similar reasons), and within the gray zone of "out of sight, out of mind" for the rest of the playerbase.

This is how these threads usually end, yeah. Not with a civil discussion but with derailment after derailment. Would I care if parsers were permitted? Probably not. I've been dealing with them in WoW since I started playing about 10 years ago. But they have their pros and cons, and Yoshi P decided to focus more on the cons. That's his choice. I just happen to agree with it. But I would have also agreed with him if he said "parsers for everyone!" instead. Like I said, pros and cons.

I'm highly for parsers being officially available in the game and giving ppl some way to see their performance and being held accountable, but I guess we all just witnessed why YoshiPs opinion is the way it is. lmao

I think it's due to how they approach things (though in no way shape or form do I think they're perfect) that gets results like the above vs how we're approaching it. The ratio of casuals may be higher as well. I think however, our method in trying to get people to excel in general is failing DPS meter present or not.

I'm a pretty easy going person. As long as things die within a reasonable amount of time and no one is forced to seriously carry someone, I'm perfectly happy. I only get annoyed when someone's performance is causing someone else to struggle or work super hard. I do expect more when I do ex and savage. My standards change depending on the content. When I'm doing roulettes with pugs my expectations are far lower than they would be for actual raiding.

But there are some players who expect more all the time. Expecting more isn't necessarily bad but some people go beyond the lines of logic with it. For example I think it's ridiculous to expect people in roulettes who are likely playing mostly for story to try to always push themselves to move past their peak. Some people really need to come back down to earth and remember that story content isn't ex or savage. I have rarely seen complaints in-game but I have seen a lot of it in reddit and these forums. Essentially in circumstances where the person complaining cannot be reported.

Some may say "but in FFXIV I mostly see in-game complaints about performance in ex and savage" and while that is true for me too, I know what happens when you allow in-game parsing because I have seen it in WoW. Those comments about performance that are sometimes only appropriate for more challenging content begin to creep into casual and lower lvl content, where often such criticism is unnecessary. And of course there are mean-spirited people who know the comments are unneeded but they take joy in making someone else feel bad.

So while I think parsers are great tools, and I would like to see some manner of parser come to the game (a personal one preferably), I can completely see why SE are against the idea.

The current situation isn't so bad. SE turn a blind eye to parser use as long as it is not used for harassment or referenced in chat. The main issue with this of course is that ps4 players cannot use add-ons, so they are at a disadvantage when it comes to looking at their own performance on their own.

Not just that, they literally threatened to report anyone who dared to comment on their dps, and even went as far as to say we don't pay their sub so we have no right to comment on it. Personally nothing I said was related to their dps. I honestly don't care about their numbers. But their cheeky attitude along with the assumption that they were untouchable made me eyeroll so much. They made casual players look really bad and needed a reality check.

The animosity directed at me for saying I would report someone for mentioning my DPS is truly shocking. Nowhere did I claim to be "God's gift to DPS" or that I was "untouchable." Could my delivery have been nicer? Sure. However, I am not one to mince words or beat around the bush. If you are going to use an outside program to check DPS, keep it to yourself. Do not engage with others about it. It truly is that simple.

While my logs people looked up showed I wasn't optimal, for me those numbers mean nothing because I'm following mechanics, not dying and clearing the dungeon or raid. Why? Because this is how the game is designed.

The fact of the matter is this...this game does not base player skill based on an outside application that checks DPS. That is now how Final Fantasy XIV determines whether a player is good or bad and if they should clear content (yes I know there are DPS checks in fights and these can determine wipes). Most players do not use these tools, many probably don't know they exist. However, quite a few PC players use them and have take it upon themselves to use these numbers to determine who is good vs. bad, and feel they are now the gatekeepers of content, like Gandalf screaming "You shall not pass."

That's now how the game works inherently. If you know the mechanics, your gear is up to date, and you aren't causing the party to wipe and clearing the dungeon, raid etc. You are deemed worthy of the reward. Whether someone's DPS is high enough is irrelevant because the game itself has no way to analyze these things nor does it bring it to the player's attention.

People play this game for many different reasons. Some are raiders, some love the extreme challenge of Savage, Extreme and Ultimate. Many players play strictly for the story. You can't expect people to all want advice on how to improve DPS or even care to optimize these things if that is not their focus.

I play strictly for the STORY and I gather and craft. I love making millions, updating my house. I only do dungeons and raids for roulettes for tomes to keep my gear up. I wouldn't enter Savage content because I am just not interested in that.

Final Fantasy XIV truly is a single-player FF title with an MMO wrapping. It isn't designed ultimately for people who want to analyze every aspect of their DPS numbers, rotation, etc.

Am I saying there is something wrong with that? Absolutely not. If you PERSONALLY want to improve and is your focus, perfect. Go with God. However, don't expect that other players have the same goals.

If players are following mechanics, not dying consistently, and you can clear the dungeon or raid without a wipe. That shouldn't be a problem. The fact you personally want it to go faster, then that is on you and maybe you should form your own party with your own set of rules.

I am not for silencing anyone, personally I am happy you didn't. While many don't agree with my initial delivery of my opinion and that is completely justified, I wouldn't expect you to not comment or state what you need to say whether I agree with it or not. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing. I say speak your truth. I will speak mine.

Sure, I didn't like what you had to say or how you said it, but that's neither here nor there. At the end of the day, we all are human. Am I a nasty b at times? Yup, won't deny that. However, at the end of the day, my stance is that parsers should be personal and other players should be left alone to play how they want.

Not exactly the point I'm making. Nor did I say the irony wasn't lost. The constant back and forth was more of the point. While the player finally spoke up an said he/she could have handled it better. There's still a lot lost in the discussion.

The topic always ends up this way, and I said nothing about being completely silent (like NEVER saying anything on the topic) but more that maybe it's time to change tactics on how to deal with the culture conflict we have going on. Because years of this hasn't changed at all, I mean the necromancer likes to dig those threads up and they look the same as they did then as they do now. So how do we work around it especially when the other side's mindset has a better clear rate in content where the parser is more useful but somehow they're doing it.

No one is saying anything about joining a Savage/Ultimate clear. I sure didn't, I said I have no interest in it. However, people want to police players in normal raids, dungeons and in freaking duty roulette. Leave people alone. I won't worry what impacts your end, and you stay in your lane. However, stay out of mine as well. The only reason many people are in roulettes are for leveling and tomes. I am not sitting there thinking, my my, how can I analyze my DPS numbers and improve?

There are several factors for the clear discrepancy between regions. For one, yes, the casual ratio is significantly higher in NA. Keep in mind the two largest servers in the entire game are dedicated to roleplaying—both of which are NA based. The mentality is also quite difficult when it comes to content as a whole. Many JP players take the approach they should complete it because it's something the developers made. NA and EU couldn't care less if it's something they aren't interested in.

JP is also far more willing to carry than NA, which is a big reason for their clear rate. The West places much more value on uptime strats over safe ones, which isn't inherently bad depending what your end goal is. If you simply want to clear and don't care about your parse, then JP is going to seem very appealing. If your aim is to steadily improve even in a PuG setting, you may just prefer NA. Neither is the wrong approach unless you're only looking to inflate the clear totals rather than have decent players filling that quota. And contrary to popular belief, the better NA players are relatively on equal footing to the JP players. Now I will say due to cultural differences, JP has far fewer leeches because disappointing the group is seen as such a negative there. With NA, you unfortunately see more than a few people trying to sneak into parties they have no business joining.

Ultimately, it really depends on what mentality you prefer. I like how much more flexible NA is with strats myself even if it does cause issues from time to time. JP's heavy emphasise on safety would not only bore me, I'd all but never touch a melee DPS outside a static.

Yes and sub times seem to differ- sans housing. The NA tend to stay active on their subs for shorter time frames while JP goes to be more completionist ( as you stated).

But one thing I think is somewhat contradictory is stating JP will "carry" but they have less leeching. Exactly at what point is really a carry or leech? I am only asking on the basis of those two points being somewhat contradicting.

I would much rather they added one but oh well.

Pretty much this. Personally I think the Rathalos battle is a good example of how fights could be made without a set enrage timer, without completely removing the need for decent damage (needed to kill the big add to survive his fire attack). Instead of a timed enrage they could either set a certain amount of deaths allowed before you need to restart or do it like potd floor 50 (I believe it was 50) where you get killed if you mess up a mechanic a certain amount of times.

With the current heavy scripted design of fights that require very high damage, allow to calculate the least amount of healing required to keep people alive which enables and basicly forces healers to dish out as much damage as possible, I have to agree (even though I don't like it) a damage meter/calculator/parser/whaterveryoucallit is almost necessary.
Considering the game gives you all the information in the battle log anyway (accessible for everyone in the group, so you could technicly do the matchs manually) and the tool just doing the math for you, live during combat and the ToS being quite clear about how we should behave, even I don't really understand his stance of creating encounters with high damage requirements but no ingame way to "propery" test yourself. (Yes I know SSS is a start but it could really use an upgrade imo)

I would be perfectly fine with adding an option to preamde/pf groups to enable an small window that shows the damage numbers of everyone. Keep it to Ex/Savage/Ultimate encounters, everything else should just stay off limits.

To be fair though, Rathalos is just basically Monster Hunter with some limitations with FFXIV. And it's basically hit the guy 99 times to make him KO. If anything play Monster Hunter if you like it. Though they have their metas too. Some are for the memes, but a lot of the metas are DPS oriented. On PC parsing is a thing on Monster Hunter too (I do it on that game).

That's not to say I don't mind different encounters in content for FFXIV, but for the most part people are talking about higher end game content like Savage and Primals and I don't think their design of those is going to change any time soon. Though like you said parsers for that content isn't a bad thing, just wonder how they'd implement it for those instances. Would it be like Duty recorder?

They could meet players half way and just create a DPS meter that activates when doing SSS and nothing else. If youre already practicing SSS, then youre already considering the high end content as it were where a parser is gonna be necessary.

The reason I mentioned the Duty Recorder is that from what I understand everyone has to agree to be recorded. If they have something like that up for being recorded why not just have it for parsing certain instances. If people don't want to, they can agree not to join a party with it on. The instance is recorded and if ppl are harssing each other during it, its cut and dry and on record.

This would be a flaggable option if a parser is on during a duty recording
