RDM has utility yes, but I laugh that you think it can out DPS a BLM that knows how to play the job well.
"Looks at fflog-SAVAGE" < not the 100% evidence or the best source.. but some BLM(s) have simply outdpsed all rdm.
Yes they have been fed up by balance. Ignoring that... I can only see 1rdm(or more) out of all "player by dmg" tab of 100 top dpser list. Rdm can also be fed up with balance. But out of that list it kinda show what class is more desirebale to give balance too.
Again not the best source. But the point is: good player = able to dish out dps. Yes rdm has utility. But let the hlr do the job and raise... it has happend where i waste my swiftcast over hundreds of times.
Red Mage is probably the least constant job there is. It's the only caster with zero DoTs (not that I'm asking for any), so the very *instant* you stop casting for any reason, you're doing no damage. None. No thunder/bio/disease is hurting it for you while you reposition for mechanics, you get one dualcast (if you timed it right).
Which only matters if it takes more than 2 seconds to reposition for mechanics. It doesn't unless you positioned yourself wrong in the first place. The skill ceiling for RDM is miniscule, you can't honestly give me a good reason why it should be outperforming classes that require more of the player.
Except it isn't (edit: to clarify, rdm is not doing more damage than blm) . If you look at fflogs BLM is beating RDM at every percentile. The gap is very small at the lowest percentiles but if they balanced around that, then RDM would be absolutely worthless at the top and BLM would be broken.
RMG damage is punished very little for fight mechanics, making it one of the most consistent casters outside of it's moderately heavy reliance on procs.
Can we just let this thread fade already? It just keeps going in a circle because facts are apparently wrong.
lol..., just watched "Mondays with Mr. Happy Q&A", he said literally the same thing ive been sayin, rdm damage is too high for how easy (constant) it is (+ has super rez and embolden)
the other casters should be brought up.., even though blm has high damage its not easy/accomplished easy (not always hence not as constant) + smn needs love (in mr happy eyes devotion needs fixing)
....
He also said that he's fine with the damage and utility besides how easy it it and how forgiving the rez is. Considering classes are not balance around difficulty, I don't think they'll be getting a significant damage nerf any time soon. As I said before, I'd be on board with a veraise mana increase to make it slightly more punishing but that's the only significant change I'd expect.
As for the other casters, summoner needs lots of work at both a mechanics and tuning level but BLM may see a at most a small damage buff to push them up closer to SAM levels.
Happy (since you're quoting him as a source) has also said fairly recently that BLM is doing crazy damage accross the board.
I dunno, I'm a fairly average player and I play PS4 so no parser but I can keep casting uptime through most fights without dying to mechanics, big numbers pop up and I'm constantly bothering the Tanks aggro lead. I feel like I'm doing OK.
Meta is meta, it'll always exist and that's fine, BLM is in no way in danger of falling into MCHs current position and will find groups no problem, stop creating problems just because they fit your internal narrative.
take note that if ppl think that the sickness is forgiving SE might just enforce the 50% main stat down right from the start (or simply doubling verraise and vercure cost)
Honestly what angered said about the rez should be taken by their prospective, where each try counts, a normal static perspective should consider if wiping at enrage and wasting 15 mins is better than restart all over
Looking at V3S...apparently there are some mechanics that destroy even Red Mage. Having to stick in a specific position for most of the fight, ie turreting, seems to be their weakness actually.
And what I mean by "consistent" is, as soon as it stops damaging for any reason (rezzing) it's dps drops to 0. It has no secondary sources of damage aiding it at all, ABC hits RDM hard.
After playing all three caster jobs, RDM needs more of a punishing mechanic for poor play. The job is ridiculously easy to play as is, meanwhile BLM and SMN can be quite unforgiving at times.
It was dead, it was finally dead. What have you done?!?!
But seriously, SMN is unforgiving if you die. Beyond that, the only irksome feature I've noticed is that you need AF to be up to squeeze as much damage out of Bahamut as is possible. BLM honestly doesn't seem that punishing. What if I drop Enochian? Did you drop it within the 30 seconds? Why? You have Tpose as an emergency. B-but my deeps! Then don't make a mistake. I dropped my ley lines wrong! Learn the fight better, or go back to your ley lines when the mechanic is done, you even have a teleport to it now. Literally what is so punishing about it?
RDM still needs a damage nerf IMHO. It offers far too much for what it has. Nerf it to around MCH's level and buff Embolden to affect physical + magical and it'll be much better balanced.
For BLM basically if you're forced to move at the wrong time you're easily screwing over an entire astral fire cycle not just a couple casts but an entire astral fire cycle can go to waste very easily and that is a huge dps loss. If you drop enochian you may say no big deal can just activate it again, and while you can you just lost the time you had built up for foul which is your hardest hitting spell. But yes as you learn the encounter you also learn the timings and you can work around these issues not a problem.
So what you're telling me, is a lot of the issues are solved by "Git gud"? (Not being facetious, legitimate question). My point about dropping Enochian was that it's easily maintained, there's very little reason it should drop.
You can ask that from me when you've played any caster at 70 in Savage. And when you finally acknowledge that BLM has superior damage and that RDM does not put out the exact same numbers as them. You don't get to ask for burden of proof when you won't even look at the proof we already have. And stop with your whole complexity == more damage and simplicity == less damage argument, devs already said that's a moot philosophy to them. It's not happening.

Q5. It was explained that in Patch 4.0 the focus was to reduce the large DPS disparity, but certain jobs feel more reliant on player skill than others. Are certain jobs intended to maintain that difference?
A5. One of the main concepts of FFXIV is that “when playing a job, you experience the uniqueness of that job.”
Due to this, there is a difference in difficulty between the jobs, and it used to be that higher difficulty meant more DPS. We will be scaling down this factor.
So this proved that design intention for 4.0 is never a bout more difficulty = more reward anymore.
