They already did. There is a very large group of people waiting for this feature before they return.

That stuff is coming before jumping, it's not even coming until 2.0 and the map revamps are going to be taking advantage of the fact that we'll be able to jump. You'll be able to have fluid character movement and exploration and adding jump allows for new battle mechanics.
The team working on the current game is separate from the one working on 2.0, so working on jump wont delay stuff that is coming before then.
This is further proof why jumping shouldn't be in the game at all, because idiots like YOU can't understand that some of us don't find it attractive to the point we at least are asking to be able to turn it OFF and so you have to be tyrannical about it.
Unless you want a platformer (which is NOT an RPG), jumping is NOT a 3d-feature. Quite frankly, turning XIV into an MMOP would even be construed as false advertisement.
I'm just a little confused as to when jumping became a vital feature for RPGs. I mean, I guess Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest and Final Fantasy X-2 were game of the year material after all.
Wow...this sad thread is really still going. Jump is being added, there's nothing you can do about it, adapt, stop crying about an extremely small additional feature and move on. Again, its only jump...not some world ending game breaking cataclysm ending the lives of thousands. Geez people, you make me face palm every time I browse these forums.
I would be more confused at the hostility to the point of flaming someone for wanting jumping. Nothing will satisfy them short of not having it at all including any other features they dislike.
If they have such a deep rooted hatred towards jumping in any form because they find it disruptive then wheres the thread about emote spam and repeatedly (dis)mounting your chocobo? Right, because very few people do it. You have no actual case beyond anecdotal evidence. I've been playing WoW, Aion and Rift over 7 years and you have no idea what you are talking about if you think everyone is jumping all the time.
I'm just having a laugh at all the folks who say "MMOs MUST have a jump button or else it's NOT AN MMO!" I've played plenty of games with one, and it never bothered me. But at the same time, I can't imagine anyone considering it the #1 most important thing that must be added above all else to make this game a success.
So excited for jumping, but the question is would we be able to jump with our weapons out, or even in combat?
Yoshida mentioned 'emote' when he first even brought up the idea for Jump and as far as I know, emotes serve no true purpose outside of a few quests and can't be used in battle or active mode.
So it's just a mechanic to not feel tethered, highly unlikely it will have any real implementation.
What I want to know, is with this whole map re-vamping deal, as well as jumping being thrown in, will we be able to jump onto and off of things? Like in Aion, you could jump off of pretty much anything, nevermind the whole flying bit, and take damage if you fall too far. It would be neat to add that sort of movement freedom not only to getting over that rock which is just slightly higher than the ground you're walking on, but could(in my opinion) be used to make certain instances or boss fights more than just run away from skill a, stay behind to avoid skill b.
I can picture a group fighting Titan in a sandy, craggy area. Titan begins a chain of abilities, starting with something like quicksand to aoe bind anyone standing in sand and not on one of the rocks. He then follows up with a skill that hits harder, the closer you are to him. Finishing the combo, he uses a third ability which I cannot think of a name for, which detonates all of the safe-zone rocks and causes new ones to fall from the ceiling, forcing a repositioning, movement, and preventing people from standing in one spot the entire throwdown.
Despite the one or two curveballs that Ifrit can randomly toss your way, he's mostly a tank-and-spank fight. Something to get your fingers moving would be more appealing to people like me, who like challenges.
yeah I have to admit, that jump was not bad at all, chose that type of jump, add in restriction in battle, and I would be happy. That was my main beef about jump, was that in WoW (the little I played) I would take a PvP challenge, and all they would do was jump around me, it was very stupid, and I quit PvP all together after the 20th time.
Normal hight jump, with a delay in reusing, and disable it in battle, then I would not care if it was added or not.
I did a trial of WoW, and I've watched friends play.. everywhere.. people hopping... hopping insanely high... people hopping even inside buildings, smashing their heads against the ceilings.. hopping instead of running or walking. It really WAS an eyesore. lol I think it didn't annoy me as much in Aion because I rarely saw people hop for no reason, they jumped to begin flying.
I hope SE can do a good job of it, and restrict it where needed. That's all I'm asking for at this point.
I love being called an idiot and I love flagging people for it :)
Why can't you just get used to a jump feature? What turns you off about it so much? They have new zones they are planning, and jump might actually be a part of the new maps, NO ONE KNOWS. Like it's been said numerous times, the only "proof" you have of people spamming it is from other games and OTHER people denying that it actually happens.
And what is this about it being turned into an MMOP.. er what the eff is that? What are you making up now to try and prove a point? I just can't believe people are so against something like JUMP. lol you final fantasy hardcore fanboys make me laugh
For everybody here who hates jumping. Once it is implemented, I will create a character on your server and bunny hop around you for the duration or your logon session..... Just to piss you off.
Touche!
Must... stay... away...
Must... not defend... jump... all over... again.
Mustn't reference... FFXI... or Jennestia... will find more reasons... to... post more... QQ about... how it was... so perfect...
<thud>
Seriously guys, I really want to see your actual rage faces while you type about how jump annoys ya'll so much. Probably looks something like this:
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...z/COMEDY-2.gif
right now jump is NOT needed.
I dont see a VALID need for jump, besides Dragoon.
this game is already lazy enough with all the nodes around people cant run around a cliff or rock?
there goes the FF feel Yoshi was talking about.
games with jump, people just spam it for no reason ALL the time everywhere.
jump emote? ok. jump in battle or pvp? no thanks. THE SINGLE WORSE THING ABOUT MOST GAMES PVP.
will it be cartoonish or comic? Most likely.
action triggered jump for cliffs or walls or hopping deep cracks in the ground. ok
jump on a chocobo. no thanks unless action triggered related.
either way a lala jump will look comic or cartoonish anyway its done, that or completly useless cause they shouldnt be able to jump over same things bigger races can.
my thought on the matter results........ SE + FFXIV + JUMP = {NO, THANKS}
Dear SE, if you are going to implement jump please have it be use for a purpose. Instances of Jump usage may include but not be limited to:
- Jumping to get an apple from a branch of a tree for a quest
- Jumping to get on your mount
- Jumping to get up steps (Yea, it may be annoying, but that's why there's a jump function)
- Jumping to get across ledges when ascending a mountain, otherwise you fall to the ground and start all over again (Think of Attohwa Chasm and climbing up that mountain, something unique)
- Jumping to avoid ground type AoE's (It definitely would add a uniqueness to battle)
My point being, please implement a FUNCTIONAL use for jump rather than just having it be cosmetic.
Thank you!
P.S. I understand that it's a dead horse, but ranting gives me Sleep +1.
I've never seen a group of people hate jumping so much. If you're not a huge fatty, you should try it IRL sometime. It's actually pretty fun to do for no reason at all.
No point beating a dead horse any longer. Jumping has been confirmed. There is no changing minds of the devs. Don't see why this thread should continue any longer. Regardless more anti-jump threads keep pouring in, it's not going to disable the jumping feature.
Reasons are simple: CONFIRMATION MADE. DECISION ACHIEVED. WORKS-IN-PROGRESS. There is no turning or looking back for Yoshida & Co. So save your troubles, do not bother to continue beating a dead horse. It is a good move by the devs. I support their decision in making this possible. How the devs intend to utilize the Jump feature functionality will be made known to us in the coming patches. So happy gaming.
P.S. For the laughs. Just imagine utilizing the jump feature in style of the Assassin's Creed game lol. No surprise they would add climb in :D
I dont see it any bad.. as they said "Its beta"
so dont judge it from now
just wait untill the final release :)
IMO jump feature isn't on the wave of Final Fantasy series, being another thing that makes FF series unique. If they add jump as a regular movement, FFXIV will become a completely different game and will move away from the line of Final Fantasy Series. That's a fact.
Most people that play FFXIV is because they love Final Fantasy Series and they're proudly faithful to Final Fantasy, and that's something to keep in mind.
*shakes her head in disgust at this thread* *JUMPS over it* *and keeps on Foruming*
Nope its not too high for me
it look very cool and the high is not too much
I love it just animation need a bit more work lol
Soon as jump is implemented. I am going to make a 15 minute You Tube video of nothing but jumping. JUST to annoy people and point out how insane this issue is.
"OMG, MY IMMERSION!"
... It's a game people. Please don't use it as a substitute for adventure in your real life.
If I have to live with jump, I'm quite glad that Yoshi thought it was too high and over the top. Faith points restored.
WHY CAN'T YOU JUST ACCEPT AN OPTION TO BE ABLE TO TURN JUMPING OFF? Why the hell do you have to shove your morality down my throats and demand that I like whatever the hell you like? I have no problem if people want a jumping feature, so long as I have the option TO TURN IT OFF, why can't you accept a middle road? If I had to guess, it's probably because you're not smart enough to accept that people don't like the same thing you like.
Do you know what context is? Get a clue. I was quoting someone wanting 3-dimensional features, which implies they want a... MMO-PLATFORMER. That's the ONLY way jumping would be even functional, and I did not buy an MMORPG for it to just turn into some silly kiddy-platformer game.Quote:

P.S. I'm not even a FF fanboy, the only FF games I've even remotely liked were VIII, X, X-2, and XI. For the most part, I've found the FF series to be quite lacking (but hey, you'll just disregard this like another idiot and still claim I'm calling you names because you can't understand the difference between calling someone something and equating their actions with something).
Dragon you're really too invested into this.
Jumping is not a major issue. In spite of the genre, this is just a game. Quit moping over a feature other people want that has virtually no impact on actual gameplay.
Honestly, I don't care either way. I do hate invisible walls or tiny cliffs preventing my character from moving latterally over something they could easily climb or jump on. So yes, in this way jumping would be smart to impliment.
Are people going to hop around like bunnies and be annoying. Yep. But it's not as if that's not done already with emote spamming. If you're that easily broken up about something as simple as how someone else's character model moves, perhaps MMOs are not for you. There are plenty of other games that allow you to party with your friends online nowadays to have fun, and the fantasy genera is starting to pick up on the bug to. Why not play one of those instead? That way you can control your interaction with people if you feel as if you absolutely CANNOT tolerate immature behavior.
As far as implementing a feature that removes the jump animation from the game. It seems to be a rather useless feature, one that could potentially harm your gameplay if you're not seeing your fellow players jump at a needed time.
As far as finding a mechanical use for it. What about it being capable of evading low attacks? Flying enemies can evade low-to-ground attacks by virtue of dropping. Why not have some monster or player actions evaded in the same manner? This would be a good mechanic perhaps for some arena based battles at least, though, the lag issue would first have to be addressed.
A jump feature is nothing to be in arms about. Yoshi-p seems to want to make jumps look well enough to be in the game and is trying to establish a good aesthetics for it as well, and there is room for actually making it useful in an MMO environmental (bypassing poorly designed trip-ups).
Some of you people are taking this way too seriously.
MMOs are free roam. Jumping is now a standard.
Problem?
