This is a digital experience. A digital life. Some people will take that seriously, some people will take that jokingly. However, that doesn't mean that either side is wrong. If people want to get married to get mount, minions, and armor? That is full-well within their right. They are players, and deserve the same respect for their playstyle as you do for yours.
To me; the marriage thing is nothing special. It is between you and someone you are comfortable enough (or hell, in Rift's case: Whoever you can grab! 'cause achievement) to allow yourself to be married to in-game. That doesn't mean you need to act like this is some RL committment, and acutally, for most RP'ers, that would be pushing over an unspoken line of OoC/IC mixing.
