I am of the mind that the playerbase, all players, shouldn't be excluded from a great story if they do bother going through the means to get to it and through it. A story shouldn't require people to experience blood and sweat to get to that point. Loot (like High Allagan gear, for example) should require a great deal of time and dedication to obtain. Story and difficulty of content shouldn't be considered synonymous. No loot tied to the story experience - I like the OPs suggestion.
And some of you guys foaming at the mouth fighting against this suggestion - man alive. Cool your doggon heels. GEEEEEZZZZzzzzzz
I am curious about something. When Coil was originally released, how many people played it for the story and just considered the loot a bonus thing?
I'm curious though, how much of a challenge would you want it to be? There has to be a challenge to it, else you can just read a book or watch a movie instead.
So true, I and a lot of others still did sky in FFXI after having everything from that place.Quote:

I dont think you can define what motives people who run coil only loot or story . I think it s a whole , loot , story , challenge , team work etc.... enjoying each part of it is a privilege. As much as it is a privilege to enjoy the end of the main story and its fights. Or the cutscene after a final boss...
earn it , and enjoy.
If there can be a Savage Mode, I don't see why they can't do a Story Mode for those on the other side of the spectrum. Come on, what the OP suggested is not going to give any drops, it wouldn't ease the access to the new turns, and it would make happy quite a lot of people it seems. Gear upgrades and the echo buff can't help you with some of the mechanics, nor with people that for any personal reasons can't perform well (yes, they do exist and that doesn't make them any less than someone else).
YouTube is not going to help these people. They don't pay the game to go watch a YouTube video made by someone else featuring said person's character. They pay to play the game and see it by themselves. They may not have the time or the skill to beat it as it is but, as I say, if there can be a Savage Mode I think that these other people should get their own version too.
A game should be made for all its players, not for the hardcore, not for the casuals, not for the "pros", not for the "noobs", not for the PvPers, not for the "carebears", and not for the "whateveryouwanttocallsomeoneelse". Why do you always have to be against anything that doesn't fit your very own playstyle? If it makes sense and it doesn't detract from the other playstyles, as it's the case, support it and let other people have something to enjoy the game to the same level that you do, FFS.
Maybe it will require some time and some resources, yes, but I can assure you that it would require way less resources to simplify it for what has been suggested than to make the harder versions. And it would last way more than said versions, as I'm sure that the Story Mode would be the one that most people would play in the coming years when it's obsolete (to see the story quickly and start playing the relevant content at that time), not the Savage or Normal Modes that will only be really meaningful for a couple of months to a year, max..
I'm all for it. Let everyone see the content, even if it's a year after it's released (as it's the case of T1-5).
This thread was a good read at work, it got me into trouble for laughing so hard as some of the posters!
On a side note for those who are bringing up sections of the live letter with Yoshi saying "Yes I would like to do this" you only need to look back at his past record.
* Hunts
* Housing
* WTF is the api so we can develop addons (was suppose to be 6 months after release) ** I've already started to develop my own because I'm tired of waiting, it's one broken statement after another with Yoshi.
I wouldn't hold your breathe on this coming to bear, for pete sakes just do the content. Name one MMO where everyone has access to get everything without any work involved, if you only have a hour a day you're better off not playing as you are losing money. It took me on my alt 1 hr to clear T5 with all new people just by explaining the fight to them.
And that's the basic argument right now. People say that the story has to be earned, but I'd bet a majority were all in it only for the loot. T1-5 drops are outdated gear, even by pieces sold for soldiery and matched by pieces from myth.
The story is the biggest reason to run T1-5.
When Third Coil is released, I'm sure there will be equivalent gear to Second Coil available. No one hardcore into raiding has a reason to go back to the earlier ones.
I hardly think that some of the boss fights we are talking about are "online basics". You also missed the part of the post you quoted where I said "Sometimes it's not about you. Sometimes it's about the people and internet connections around you that you cannot control."
Aside from that, I was responding to a very specific statement regarding your comparison of an offline game to an online one. If you can limit our discussion to online gaming and the challenges to overcome in an online game, great. You threw in a petty comment about an offline one and I responded to it.
So people are asking for dev resources to be focused on creating more recycled content (and content that offers zero incentive for repetition, no less!) rather than new, interesting things? You guys want more stuff like Ramuh and Levi Hard modes? Does anyone realize what a colossal waste of resources that would be considering the point of an MMO is to keep people playing?
Are you guys for real?
The only way I would even justify resources to be used that way is if T5 became an instance where you simply walk up to Twintania and slap her in the face (probably because if it's a one time shindig, it kinda needs to be anticlimactic and maybe a little hilarious). The time it would take to re-design, re-test and re-develop that fight is time you'd be taking away from the devs to make things like Chocobo Mario Kart, Whack-a-Mandy or Cloud's Cross-dressing Challenge in the Gold Saucer.
If you can't attempt content at the current level, then you hold out until a point where you can. In my case, I'm waiting gleefully until 2.4 when I can start doing SCoB casually with friends when they finally remove the stupid lockout, and I'll be doing the same with Final Coil come 2.6.
I didn't see people complain about recycled content when Savage mode was released, and as I understand, that's just Second Coil with bigger numbers.
Now no one get me wrong, I am not for or against the proposal. I've come to terms with the fact I'll never clear Turn 5. I understand that I should not have the best gear if I can't earn it. Storyline is different, especially from a game branded "Final Fantasy." I think the best solution would've been to segregate the story and the raid. Don't ask me how, I'm not that smart.
The responses to this thread have turned into one huge elitist Limit Break. Except instead of a meteor a huge tea*** comes down. Sad thing is there will be people that read that and go, 'hellz jeah! they shud totally add that!'
My friend Audacity asked me to post this, as he has hit his forum post limit for the day:
I may have a solution for you OP:
http://i.imgur.com/aU4NqUP.png
According to your lodestone, You cleared Turn 5 in April. So therefore. If you want to view your cutscene so badly, you can do so from the comfort of your inn room.
But it begs the question, How the hell did you forget that you killed Twin 6 months ago, And why have you made a thread begging SE to let you have an easy kill when you in fact, Killed this fight without echo and when the lockout was still in place?
It could only mean a couple of things
1: You're not the original owner of your account
2: You got massively carried or had ingested a large amount of foreign substance during your turn 5 kill.
To be honest I'm not sure what's worse, Not being able to kill Twin with Echo or the above 2 points.
Or maybe you're just the best troll ever and have managed to lead a large number of people on for 26 pages. Which in that case. GG, well played, Thanks for coming.
Enjoy your cutscene!

It will most likely happen once 3.0 comes out. I wouldnt hold your breath until then...
LOL, Optional, eh? So, all the important stuff there that advances the main plot of the game is only meant for hardcore players to see?
We call this 'elitism.' It is not a compliment.
Yeah! Because people LOVE experiencing story second hand! They might as well not even play the game, right? Just read a plot synopsis online! They can't be bothered to play the game like a hardcore player does anyway, so they don't deserve anything!
"Casuals" pay just as much money as everyone else to play this game. Stop thinking you deserve to be entitled to parts of the story (ie, the only part that usually matters to them) that they aren't. Square made a huge mistake by gating the story behind raids.
So many people j**king off to themselves being pro.
Everyone should be able to enjoy the story.
They can make an easier version for those that just want the story. It obviously pisses off those people that have to stop waking it to themselves for a while though I suppose.
The development time is not wasted because that will allow more people to enjoy the story, sorry it's wasted on you who gotta be the best though but honestly no one cares about you rubbing it in everyone's face anyway.
I hope the devs do make an easier version separate from what we have so you guys can enjoy the game that you pay for.
Give your opinions to the devs, dont worry about these elitists
If people are still having trouble with post echobuff coil then they just flatout are not trying and that's all there is to it. If they don't wanna try then they don't deserve to see the cutscenes.
They will not make another version of T1-T5 so don't get your hopes up, people are just plain lazy and don't want to put in the very little work it takes now for clear T5.

What are you nattering about?
They're adding this already, as has been mentioned 50 times already.
Do I need to quote myself again?
So you've essentially just answered what I said by providing the same answer I gave.
That would be re-designing the entire fight.
Which takes time, and you're STILL going on about it as if they've said "lol no", when they've confirmed they're doing it.
I tried T5 once. I even watched a video. They proceeded to tell me I watched the wrong video. But I've already made a thread on that.
Everyone handles difficulty different. I know how much I suck at things with basic memorization and knowing who to stand on and where they're at. If I get practice at it, I can understand it well enough to lead and guide even the most moronic people. Very few people are willing to ask "does everyone know what to do?" and even more people are scared to say "yes" because of a elitists.
I almost quit at *normal* mode Titan because I kept getting groups that refused to say anything other than "you effing suck, quit this game."
@Shioban.
Feel free to repost it as I've not seen it.
Also on a sidenote, a lot of your posts have a really rude tone to it.
You can just re-post it like any ol' person would.
@ Shioban again...for the sake of posting limits.
Because it's the forum rules lol. You can have an opinion without being a butt nugget, to put it lightly.
And hey if you get the ban hammer for what others think as rude [and trust me, anything goes on these forums, even the smallest things
and I am not saying your post was down right nasty...] then go for it lol. I'm not here to teach you to be polite on the net lol.
I've taken a group of first timer. They followed instructions and we cleared. I had to help them change there huds, use skills not on their hotbar and have them adjust their graphics so they could see symbols.. It's not hard to do and there 0, 1 shot mechanics in to with the echo and i100. If dive bombs are killing you. Just Stand IN The Middle Of The battlefield so you don't get blasted into a wall. And heal through it. The snakes can be killed 1 at a time now. And btw stun, miasma, blizzard, stone you shouldn't be dieing to the birds. We had several ppl get hit by everything, and no one got 1 shotted.
Not every post I put up has to come across as polite, respectful and as uncondescending as possible. That's what makes me a human being.
If I find something stupid, intolerable or frankly downright idiotic then why censor myself for the sake of others, what would that achieve?
Whether or not you like what I have or others have to say is completely up to you and your own opinion to explore, discover and revel in.
inb4 "u have 2 be nice" No. No I don't.
I could, but I'm not going to, I've already posted it several times.
And yes, that was rude for the sake of rudeness. Sue me.
Actually, it doesn't state anywhere that I'm not allowed to be salty or passive aggressive towards others.
Blatant anger, profanity or defamation out of context might count.
But; "What are you nattering about?" isn't really going to make the 'ban/suspension' cut.
Then why bother mentioning it in the first place.

Yoshida would implement the Story Mode version for the entire coil some time
http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/123...tion-Patch-2.4Quote:
Q: With the Bahamut's coils completing in patch 2.4, do you have any plans for players who are only interested in seeing the storyline?
A: I have also been wondering what we can do. With respect to the difficulty, there will be some relaxation, but we also need to consider players who are starting new, so we haven't finalized any specifics yet. I would like it so that at some point everyone could experience the story.
I somehow doubt that several people got hit by everything (Twisters too? Really?) and didn't get one-shooted.
Yes, it's easy when you know what to do and you don't lag. But not everyone has the same level of skill, be it for whatever reasons, and I think that these people deserve to, "at least", be able to see T1-5's story after a year of their release. It won't hurt me, I don't know why does it seem that it hurts some of you. It won't require that much resources to simply dumb down OHKO mechanics to do way less damage (as to not kill you) or to have longer CDs, and reduce monsters' stats to get equivalent (scalated for an 8-man) to those of the ones in the normal dungeons. Specially when compared with making it harder, that requires a lot more tweaking to prevent it from being impossible while still being harder than the normal one.
What they mean is 2000+ have beaten SCoB.
The number of people who've beaten BCoB is substantially higher than that.
Considering the development of the game is split quite strongly between casual/hardcore content (intentionally so), your point doesn't make that much sense.
You have the right to ask for it, but regardless of whether you pay for it or not, if you can't actually complete the content due to your own time/ability/varying restrictions that's not their problem.
They've stated they're adding in a way to clear it with fewer people in the future, you'll simply have to wait till then or try harder.
*There is no proof to suggest that this claim is true or false, and is baseless conjecture without solid fact proving one way or another, silly point to make.
What they mean is 2000+ have beaten SCoB.

These things take time, and time is precious on a three-month development cycle trying to pump out new content of a certain quality.
It's not just as easy as "Let's remove twisters and lower the HP", it takes a lot more planning, adjustments, testing and final implementations to procure a version of the fights like this and that would consume A LOT of time.
But as I've already said, they're adding it, you're flapping your arms in their air as if they're not going to add it when they are;

I don't have my hopes up. I beat T1-5 a bunch of times. Call people lazy if you want but you really don't know anything about the other people who can't do it. Best not to act like you do.
It's not the point really, my point is that I dont care it they don't got time or can't form a static or whatever. The story is there, it's the hardest content in the game and it is the only way to see those major story parts. A lot can't enjoy it because of their reasons.
Not everyone has the same life. They can make an easier version just for story.
Bottom line for me is that people pay to play this game, the elitists make up a small fraction of this game and everyone has equal right to ask for what they want. They aren't asking you or anyone else on the forums. They're asking the devs.
You speak such words of wisdom.
I don't like the "gimmie gimmie" gamers.
T9's a bitch. A challenge. A long term goal with 7 of my friends.
I wouldn't want it any other way.
T5 is little more than a speed bump in its current state.
Just has 2 mechanics that require minimal coordination.
That aside. It's a cakewalk.
Please. Just practice. And find a static.
That's what makes this game awesome.
