Given the context of "no map" it reads as it won't be a "zone" type of deal in it's initial implementation, which FFXI's airships was a semi-instanced map. More than likely given how the ferry in XIV currently is pretty badly designed they probably decided against it at the start and will flesh it out more down the line.
Kind of like how in FFIX you take the transport around Lindblum and it's nothing more than a quick transport without seeing said transition. It's just when you translate it the context is hard to fully to hard and in the letter it'll likely be more explained.

My japanese is crap but I feel like what that is saying is that the Airship will not fly over the "actual map". In other words, it will not be part of the map that players play in. Meaning it will be its own instance.
It will probably be exactly like FFXI and/or the boat to Limsa.

Which is exactly what XI's airship does, as while it's a part of it's own map, it's also a part of the map where it's route goes through, e.g if you're enroute to Jeuno from bastok you can see it fly pass Rolanberry Fields if you're standing near Jeuno and if you're enroute from Sandy you can see it flying past Batallia and so on. Given the fact the world is "seamless" it more than likely won't be in that design. So it still won't be exactly the same, since even though it's a small thing, it's just more world atmosphere that won't be present in initial implementation.
Which is why I said it will likely be more explained, but the general context seems that it will be "lifeless" at the start like the ferry is or like how IX's aircab's were.
I like how they said a main character from other FF's will be appearing soon and everyones like, it will be cid!, no no no, it will be Bahamut!!!. LOl they already said an Ifrit fight is otw. My money is on them refering to Ifrit.
Also, someone said earlier that we dont need a mailbox system. /slap Clearly you never playerd xi or maybe you just dont have friends in the game that live in other cities. Because I would freaking LOVE to have a mailbox system in this game so that I could send mats to friends that need them without them being online or in the same zone as me. Saying we dont need one because of RMT activity is lame.
Not that I am doubting you or anything, but could you tell me where it says that all the Ishgardians are Elezen? I'd be interested in learning more on Ishgard. Is it in one of the later missions? I guess I will eventually see it then if it is.
But in that case, Im still sticking with Cid being the character. The mention of airships coming, and a mention of a familiar character is all too coincidental to me!

So that finally clears up that bit of speculation. Sounds like the airship will be more of a fade in/out type of thing, or they stick the world map up on the screen with a starting/ending X and connect the dots between the two. It's to alleviate travel issues, and more will be added later. Sounds good to me. Get the basics in place and make it usable, for now.Quote:

Regarding the airship, I understand everyone has different expectations but for now want to resolve the traveling issue first and looking at cost, it wont be where it has it's own map and long time to enjoy the adventure in the skies.
I think it would be more interesting if it had events that suddenly happens and stuff.
Please think of this as something to make traveling easier for now; in time we will add more/upgrade to this (Will add effect/animation^^; ).
I know this is off topic... but I'm in a FFX mood.....

I think all the Prelude are unique in there own way but still sounds like the same old prelude we been hearing throughout the years. I remember FFX when it first Launch I played it like 10 times.... Like seriously no lie... haha and now I wanna play it 10 more times now but my Disc broke for some odd reason... so I'm going out tomorrow to buy it again along with FFXII :D.
Either way FFX will always be my Favorite.. 2....3... "Teach us how to Blitz!!!" :D

Im not even arguing about it, it just occured to me the other day, when my friend was playing, he was played beta said it was too unfinished even to play free and stopped, he recently gave it a chance, and hes having a little fun early, but as he continues to level finds all the problems most people find.
any number of members higher than 4 makes battle so easy it becomes unfulfilling
leves and the anima system make you feel like you should only play once in awhile,

but basically he was like i like the battle, but still the game feels like any other f2p mmo, except some of them have even more engaging and entertaining battle systems, but the problem with them, and ffxiv is thats it. all it is, is leveling, and fighting. thats empty. I realized the battle system isnt what makes a great rpg, or mmo, i didnt like ffxi battle system much, it was by an large less entertaining than an offline rpg battle system, less entertaining by far than aion battle, and even RO battle was overall more entertaining, but i played it longer, and the game was entertaining over all.
Its not the battle, its everything else, you adapt and get used to whatever battle system is there if the game is good in other ways. Its not catering to my needs, I just realized battle aint really the selling point of rpgs.
youd be right battle is the core element of a fighting game, racing is the core element of a racing game. the best rpgs arent great for the battle, was ff6 battle great? have people been playing dice rolling rpgs for 20 years because dice rolling is awesome? does even the best FF battle system compare to street fighter alpha? devil may cry 4? Man if i could jack devil may cry 4 battle for a sword user, SF2 for pugilist and copy and paste them in to ffxiv that would be awesome, but that still wouldnt make it a sucessful RPG.
They got korean online games with battle systems that blow ffxi, ffxiv out of the water, but thats not what you really get from an rpg, thats not what these other f2p mmos are missing, many have excellent leveling systems, and engaging battle.
there is a reason why UO, and EQ are still being played, and its not because of the best battle systems out there. There is a reason why ff still sells huge numbers on a portable, with a battle system from 1989.

Well, the battle system is not the only foundation, and everyone can agree the game is lacking on content. It is something the development team is aware off, and have already indicated they still decided to fix the battle system first before adding the content that will revolve around the new battle system.
By the time FFVI was released, the slight alteration to the atb system it had, was indeed something extraordinary. No battle system is without its flaws, but when is this flawed, like XIV is, where the hate is crazy, the stats have close to no effect, and every other complaint there is for it, after asking the playerbase at the time what we wanted, there was no other way for them to respond differently than a full change.
So airship would be a quick A --> B ? i don't know that i like that i enjoy FFXI where you enjoy the skys. you can do more into that few 15min like few mobs happen to jump on and you fight them and so on.
