They are aiming their shots, not casting. Cast bars is just the easiest way to show such a thing in an MMO.

STR and DEX no longer effect Parry/Block.
Also, I still don't see where the problem is in what you said. You'd still get VIT or another stats Accessories, and slap the other onto them as Materia. (Which was the whole point to begin with.)

There's a reason groups dont stack the same job in Savage content. (Nor was this really a counter to the idea to begin with? Thats like saying having a group of 40 Monks in wow is a good counter argument to allowing Monk to be all 3 roles. Are you suggesting that I meant "all 3 rolls, equally, at the same time, w/o penalties"?
We better stop having DRGs, MNKs, and NINs, dont want them to get hit with Cleaves. And a melee Healer, doesnt have to solely heal with a 5y range. They do need to actually melee the boss though, with an occasional emergency heal/resource fix, for moments they cant melee the boss.
What is a "Pet"? How does it keep the boss stationary? (Doesnt even need a pet to function.) and no, i dont mean kiting a boss.

You didn't counter her point, all you did was keep her statement the same, with the same "answer".
Almost every possible mechanic you can slap onto a DPS, has been given to every single DPS, making them all play the same. (Such as every DPS has at least 1 DoT to work on, at least 1 off the GCD to work with, etc)
Except they did decide to make 2 mechanics unique to either melee, or ranged.
Melee have positionals. (Ranged do not)
Ranged have Cast bars. (Melee do not)
All ranged classes are mechanically Casters. Regardless of what you call the casting.
you can certainly break it down that way but Light Parties are not made up of 5 jobs with one from each stat and Full Parties are not balanced with 10 party spots pulling 2 from each stat.
it breaks down to
2 tanks out of 3
2 melee out of 3
1 support range out of 2
1 caster out of 2
2 healers out of 3
if you want balance, you want to change all the 3s to 4s. that doesn't rule out RDM being INT gear based and SAM being STR gear based.
also the gear is not balanced anyway since NIN doesn't use Aiming armor.
I thought about it like this as well, except when it comes to the melee, it's a bit harder to do this, but I'd like to see what you had in mind.
I don't think there is anyone who doubts this.
What I think is more likely, is that a class that is limited to the function of casting, is what they dont want to see any more. (And with SEs stance on instant cast ranged classes, we wont see anything with range abilities/spells, w/o some penalty like cast bars, any time soon.)
Stop mentioning "Gun/Bow Mage", these arent "mages" and neither can their wear the clothes a blm/smn can.
i do. i liked BLM back in the 2.x days when you can just stand there and blow stuff up and eat divebombs and landslides with well timed manawalls. i also liked BRD back in those days when you can move as much as you want. SMN was somewhere in between but it had other issues which make me not like it (it's pretty good where it is now).
those two jobs felt a lot more unique back in those days.
