Why on Eorzea would you want to stand in a corner and still expect heals?
Is it too much work to stick close to rest?
Just because you're in cast range it doens't mean you're in AoE heal range, and no healer should ever run around to heal everybody. Selfish DPS who want the whole party to cater around them.

If someone reading this was in the YorHa raid yesterday and remembers the A-Tank, i am sorry. I had a long break, i had done high level content duties before returning to raids, but aparently i fucked up in every positioning i could think of right now regarding at vital parts of the raid. Such as tank busters, adds... I literally failed at remembering or looking for info i needed to know before joining the said raid. I promise to not to do it again, really. Sorry.

Reading this little rescue debate made me remember a Hades EX farm party a while back (so this is PF, not DF).
I was playing bard and while the party wasnt doing all that great - several deaths and even some wipes to tally avoidable things like people dying due to a lack of heals (raid-wide AoEs, ranged getting hit by the puddles - that sort of thing; really damage that you can not avoid and have to be healed through) and people not being able to do the mechanics in the last phase without a safespot - we had gotten 2 or 3 clears in at this point.

I actually like doing the mechanic with the falling circles (during the first phase) correctly when I'm on bard - as a ranged job it doesnt hurt my dps to bad, for one of the middle ones I can use my knockback to jump into a safespot etc. On melee I like staying in the middle - provided the healers can handle it - but as bard I dont really see the point of taking extra damage. Especially not with these two struggling WHMs, who had a record of letting people die to avoidable damage, so I'm not taking my chances.
On our third run or so I was lingering just outside the middle, looking for the first falling circle, when I suddenly got yanked into the group - there wasnt any healing going on at that point and no need for any healing to go on either, but nevertheless I was still in healing range.
So I asked the WHM not to do that again and we got into a little discussion because they couldnt understand why someone would choose doing the mechanic correctly instead of relying on two healers who had proven that they couldnt really be trusted to keep people up without them taking extra damage and vul-stacks.
The part I most enjoyed was the WHM talking about a dps-loss - firstly, its minimal for a ranged job, I can dodge and still attack without a problem. And secondly... we were not only beating it but my bard was top-dps, ahead of two RDMs and a ninja. Which is sad enough - to their credit though: while I'm not sure on who actually died anymore, we had a few dead dps... dying from damage they couldnt avoid, aka from a lack of heals, so it wasnt really their fault.

There have been moments when I was very thankful for healers rescuing me - mainly the two healers in my static rescuing my lazy tank-ass during certain mechanics, allowing me to stay on the boss just a second longer. But most of the time I had this feeling of myself being dragged down by an incompetent healer when I knew excatly what I was doing and for what reason.

When you're doing wall to wall pulls in Pharos Sirius and your healer is literally only using CURE...

D:< I had to pop Hallowed and then all my CDs in the first pull.

What is it with all these awful healers lately just spamming CURE?! In Level 50, 60, 70 AND 80 content?!

I prefer to do it the intended way too. I have seen a lot of parties try to do the stack in the middle cheese and then the healers let you die to the spread because the two vulns have not fallen of by then. It doesn't always happen, but I've had it happen enough to be paranoid about it.

It does suck to dodge as melee, but as BRD there's really no reason not to. IMO in the perfect scenario everyone dodges without dps loss, so there is no healing that has to go out and the healers can DPS more too.

End of the World. Tank refuses to use tank stance. Asked to please use it. Refuses. Fun for sure.

So just FYI. On the north american servers we dont really use the duty finder to que for extreme trials or savage raids(this includes the coils series which werent labeled as savage, but were set to that difficulty level). These parties are typically made using the partyfinder tool instead.

This is just a general vent, so please bear with me.

A few times, I've had the misfortune of dealing with people whose wrath I'd find myself on the receiving end of. I'd be the only Sprout in the party every time this would happen, and every time the individual(s) in question would keep verbally abusing me and blaming me for things that were neither my fault nor in my control. Just ... my gods! I'm new to these dungeons, and a majority of the time I'm only doing them for my MSQ or for my Challenge Logs, and that's it. And trust me when I say, I want them cleared as efficiently and swiftly as the next person. If I'm doing my part to the best of my abilities, and doing my best to learn the mechanics for everything, then I'm sorry but your saltiness has zero grounds to stand on. It rests on a shaky foundation, and your nasty attitude only makes me believe that you behave in such an unethical manner in order to compensate for something. Thankfully such incidences aren't common for me, but it's still nerve-wracking when it happens, and it makes for a poor gameplay experience for me. Of course, I'd always get a GM involved along with reporting those people for the harassment, but still! Give me a break already!

Nothing wrong with being new or going into a dungeon blind. Though if you’re doing something to get yelled at more than once, I’m curious to what exactly you’re doing to warrant such attacks? I get that sometimes their are bad apples in df though, but generally most people are usually silent.

It's just bad apples, honestly. I guess they were either being impatient with me for not knowing, or they were having a bad day or something.
When I'm in a dungeon, I try to pay attention to my surroundings and not run ahead of the tank; if anything I'm actually ensuring that I stay closer to the healer and other dps when we're taking care of the mobs. Learning as I go, more or less. Hence my confusion whenever such things happen. I never say anything in the party chat except for thanking everyone for the party, letting others know whether or not it's my first time running a dungeon, and overall just being cordial and respectful. I guess I'm just not used to people acting a certain way, especially in public spaces like MMO's :'D

No matter where I go, what I do, or what games I play, I'll always take comfort in this thread being here waiting for me. Because some people never learn.

Another funny and maybe "embarassing"? experience: I got Stone Vigil in Leveling yesterday on GNB yesterday. During the 2nd boss with the cannons, I sudddenly noticed near the end of the boss' health that a party member wrote "Tank, pull the boss to A" and was slighty puzzled at first. Only after the battle, I realized that the writer had put the A waymarker near the entrace, probably to let the tornados not interfer with firing the cannons. Yeah... No matter the dungeon I tend to tunnelvision *HARD* in the midst of battle; as a clicker I paid at first most attention to my skill bars but tried to pay more and more attention to also the boss cast bar. However, the chat window tends to disappear from sight after a while :o.

This is a funny one, a few weeks ago, I ran SB dungeon with a BLM, they were doing relatively great honestly, and thanks to them being my dance partner, they were doing juicy damage, buuuuuut as per the usual, they stood in almost every AOE no matter what, I jokingly made fun of them, and the whole run was basically the party making jokes about AOEs, twas fun.

Flash forward to today, finally leveling BLM, I queue into Sirensong Sea, I see, you guessed it, the same BLM, this time playing MCH, and of course on the first boss, I suddenly start standing in AOEs for the sake of Ley Lines, the love of my life, and immediately the MCH jokes about it and reminds me of last week. Twas a really good laugh and I was shocked he recognized me, hell he even commented on how I picked up on the basic rotation quickly.

The dungeon is Neverreap, and I'm playing Dancer. Most of the dungeon passes smoothly, and we reach the final boss. What I didn't know is that this boss has my "favorite" mechanic, ring out.

So the boss blows both me and the Tank off the edge. We expect a wipe to follow, so we wait outside the boss arena. That wipe didn't happen. Instead, the healer and the second DPS, a Samurai, manage to finish the boss on their own.

Me and the Tank were in awe of this feat. As I watched the Samurai, this played in my head: https://youtu.be/hdf0TAwQjFo

So yeah, I hope Samurai knows that they're awesome.

I had our tank and ninja in Grand Cosmos disconnect during the Roselia boss because of the fun lag times yesterday. Me on RDM and the WHM healer were doing fine finishing the boss up until the first tank buster knocked me out. We totally would have been able to complete it since that mechanic only happens once per boss rotation and we could have easily rezzed each other, but the WHM gave up and stopped healing at that point. It made me sad. :( We could have had an amazing story to tell, like the time I tanked the entirety of the dungeon with the duo ascian bosses with Titan egi a few years ago when our tank instantly left and none joined during the run.

It happened again today in Void Ark
I got so many spires but I'm a terrible BLM! I forgot to turn in my ley lines quest! I have no idea what the L60 rotation is supposed to be (ok I do but my god am I awful at this class and I HATE playing it so really I might as well not)! Thank you for the cards but why ;;

As a level 73 Ninja who queued a Dohn Mheg run that was in-progress for 12 minutes, I was partied with an AST healer who I blacklisted a couple weeks back for being terrible on big pulls on an Ala Mhigo roulette run. The dungeon run was filled with quite a bit of stuff I have to vent out.

1. I saw that a basket mob had a "Damage Up" buff. That means the tank who was here earlier didn't interrupt the watering cast of the Fuath. A party wipe must have occurred before I arrived in the dungeon.

2. The BRD did single target rotations on a few of the big pulls that the WAR tank could do after the second boss.

3. The WAR was the ONLY member who didn't successfully grab a plant tether for second boss. The boss ended up getting 4 power stacks instead of 2. Luckily we didn't wipe as the boss wasn't fully grown, but I was nervous during most of the boss fight.

4. After the second boss, the WAR tank ended up pulling small again. When the tank pulled the Kelpie horse and the 3 enemies, the AST couldn't keep the tank up in this relatively normal-sized pull, even after the tank used defensive cooldowns. Some members got knocked out, but we beat the enemies eventually.

5. The AST kept on falling during the balance beam mechanic, so he couldn't contribute in hitting the Lyre barrier. In addition, the BRD kept on attack from outside the barrier, so I had to remind hit to get inside the barrier to hit it and stop the balance mechanic.

6. BRD kept on getting hit by most of the aoes that have no aoe indicators (e.g., The conal puke attack, the conal attack that causes toad status).

After we cleared the dungeon, I commended the WAR tank because I felt she was the least awful of the three. Surprisingly, I got 2 player commendations.

So again I wander into the steps of 5.1 The Grand Castle, as WHM.

The pt starts with 3 ppl in viewing cutscenes, new fellas I guess. And sure, 2 ppl admit they are new. I made up my mind to explain stuff along the way. The tank is a rash, yet cautious puller. I'd say that because he do a trait that both sides of tanking squabbles will do: pull without waiting and one single mob per pull. After first pull, I told him its okay to pull more, met with silence, and further single pull, whatever.

First boss, before I spurt out a word, the tank sparta rush the boss. By the grace of first time, all of em got swiped by broom, tank eat 3 stacks of debuff, and without cooldown, died to a 110k tankbuster. Surprisingly no wipe, but we have 4 broom mechanics and tank died again just before we nailed the boss.

Garden area is still 1 mobs per pull, so nothing to be said much here.

Just before second boss, I just start saying about direct seeding mechanics, and tank goes sparta in again. So naturally, I have to do my rare 2 seed carrying duty, luckily others are able to pick up. And then Ode to Far Winds hit (checkerboard circle AOE while marked AOE on each player), they all stack near mid, and this time everyone died, and I raised the tank, and slowly swift-raise others one by one. The only good point is they only need 1 mistake to do mechanics properly.

So before my inevitable 1 mob pull again, I had enough. I told them to wait when third boss so I get the mechanics straight, if anyone charged inside before ready, I'll let them burn by that Ifrit knockoff Lugas - Figuratively, literally, and pun very intended. I mentioned again just outside the purple line.

Guess what the tank do.

So anyway, I mentioned about blue and red marker and then the tether marker mechanics and furniture, which IMO is core of that fight, while the tank inside running around like burning monkey. Ah the serenity and the blood spilled for the Blood Kupo...

The bois and I all got our Morbol mounts recently :)

This is normal. If anything, 4 deaths is kinda low for a first time so good job. While there are few instant death mechanics in CF, there are a lot of ways to die and you dont necessarily have any control over some of them. My last run i died once when two guys from different groups both put explosions on top of me. I was in a safe spot, they were running away, then at the last second they both turned inwards and i was right in the overlap of both bombs. I only died because they both unpredictably decided to turn towards each other. If either of them doesnt turn that exact way at that exact time i eat one explosion for 3/4 of my life(or none if they both kept going straight). I could have picked a different safe spot to stand, and it too could have been made unsafe. During the 3rd boss the tank from one of the groups died just before he sends 3 tankbusters(one per team) at the same time. It went to the guy 2nd in enmity, and he didnt know what to do. Half the alliance died(we got resses out and still cleared the fight). If the tank stays up about 5 more seconds he gets targetted(and presumably knows what to do). If someone else was 2nd in enmity, maybe he knows what to do(ive taken this move as a BLM before when a tank was either dead or forgot their stance - i knew to run it out of the group but my manaward alone wasnt enough to keep me up). If everyone else could have guessed the guy would freeze, maybe they could have all run away(a few of them did). In the end, you control what you can and do your best to roll with the rest. So yeah, dont worry about a couple deaths.

This is very true, even for not first timers. There's so much visually going on in those fights that it can be hard to make any sense of things the first several runs. It's a veritable laser light show at times. E.g. The final boss gives a lot of trouble at the point where even if you figure out that it will attack in certain directions based on their incoming move, which direction that the boss is actually facing at the time is easily obscured unless you're super familiar with the fight.

Yup. You’re not alone there.

Tam Tara Hard yesterday. Healer was a lvl 50 WHM (wearing the fresh 50 gear and everything). They were married to the tank (same last name, random non-verbal pausing for eachother). I wanna say that they were both returners. The tank was wearing early level 60 gear, and the WHM was wearing the aformentioned fresh 50 gear.

The healer didn't seem to know what her healing spells actually did, or when she should use them. She'd medica 1/2 when the tank was the only one taking damage. She cast cure 3 on me when i'm off in the distance alone.

The tank did okay, but only did single pulls. Like...even when there was only one minor mob to be pulled.

And nobody, including myself, could remember what to do for the first boss, we kind of lucked through it on our second attempt. I looked it up after and told everybody what we actually needed to do for posterity.

They still get me from time to time as well. Although the last few runs I've gotten through them fine. The thing is, they move randomly and if one happens to hit you, it knocks you into other bad stuff, and all it takes is one more hit to kill you.

So, you can run out of space very quickly if you're not careful, or are just unlucky. It's deceptively hard.

If I did expert roulette daily I might have gotten used to them by now but I've probably run Grand Cosmos like...6 times total? And every time I keep trying to see some trick I might be overlooking to it. At least I usually manage to not die at least.

Well I wouldn't worry about that one either.

Since there's no floor markers you have no idea of the range of the brooms sweep techniques, so its impossible to gauge them without doing it a lot.

They don't move randomly at all. The key is to think of each broom as a single circular AoE that moves in a straight line across the map. There are no gaps between their paths, covering the entire map, and the paths alternate directions. The basic mechanic to this is to stand in the path of an oncoming broom long enough to let one of the brooms in the neighbouring path pass you so you can duck behind it.

The complication is that these AoE circles temporarily pause and get larger when they hit a puddle, covering the neighbouring paths as well. The easiest way I've found to handle this mechanic is to stand in the path of whichever of the incoming brooms will hit their puddle first. While it is in its puddle, one of the brooms in the path to either side of it will have time to move past you allowing you to duck behind it and move far enough back within its path to avoid its larger AoE when it goes off in the middle. At this point your first broom will have moved far enough up that you can now duck behind it and move up to avoid the third set of puddles that trigger near the ends of the broom paths.
