Even knowing what to do, the one time I ran it with some FC mates, I died to it the two times it popped. I really can find no other explanation except to shout "server ticks", because from my end, it looked like I was behind her with the rest of the raid, but nope. Died to it twice.

After seeing wipes to E1N adds and people still running away from the group with stack markers in E3N i am not even sure what's going on anymore.

Had a couple Quarn stories.
First one, is i am doing it via Leveling Roulette on my SMN. Healer is a fresh "Just finished Praetorium and running this for MSQ for the first time" sprout. Tank is "pull every mob in the dungeon at hyper speed". Things end up going pretty much as expected. Bees are not dying fast enough, tank dies, healer dies, i try to rez them, everybody dies. Oh joy. There were a few hiccups, but we cleared it in the end.

Second one, i decided to level up dragoon and Quarn is the highest dungeon i can access, plus hey Moogle Tomes. I queue for it and and twiddle my thumbs, after a while i say in FC chat, "man, dps queues are so real. It's been 20 minutes". My FC mate replies, "Yeah, same here". My queue pops. I enter Quarn and notice that my FC mate is here. We laugh, tank says that it's his first time tanking Quarn. We explain stuff on the way, run goes super smooth and tank thanks us and says it's was a pleasure running the dungeon with people who know what they are doing. So it all balanced out in the end i guess.

This just in! According to the dynamic idiotic duo of Girlfriend SCH and Boyfriend DRG, I best better be pulling big even when all my CDs are down, because Girlfriend SCH is a talented healer and can heal through anything, and has experience healing no CD tanks!

I said nothing further because I didn't want to get vote kicked by the Dynamic Idiotic Duo.

You won't believe but E3N wise stack is always more like a question mark. I never know what people are gonna do. I am a whm main (this makes it even more painful). I literally had like 2-3 runs of it where people were running away. I had one very memorable run when we (meh and my friend usually go together as healers) have realised on first run (because we wiped lols) that nobody actually goes to the stack. We have typed in, in chat asking people to stack. First stack came and my stack markered friend realising quickly that they are not even thinking of grouping, decided to commit in game sudoku and run off the platform. I insta rezzed. And that is how we handled that mechanic till the end (because yes, next stack mark came up on me and yes, nobody was stacking) and that was the only possible way for us to clear xD. Towards the end we have even joked in chat that jumping is the proper way of handling the stack marker. And the last person who got the stack marker was the dps (yes, they did not stack originally either) , what did the dps do? YES! SHE HAS JUMPED. /end of story

Last night decided to do one last roulette on my dark nut before going to bed. Got thrown into the vault, party comp was DRK, SCH, BRD, SAM.

Most of the run things are rather smooth until the bosses. The sam on the first boss stood in the lightballs and ate three stacks of bleed. This should've been a warning sign to me, but no, me being the person that just wanted the last bit of exp to hit 60 before calling it a night, didn't say anything. After the boss, they lag behind and the sch and brd follow me up to the elevator. After a few minutes the sam finally comes, and we get to the second boss.

Second boss somehow the sam dies after eating a few vul stacks from the first knockback. My second red flag. I check their gear, it's mostly appropriate for the dungeon (a few 53 pieces here and there, but the rest is 55/56 stuff). The sch gets them back up...and I watch them walk into our personal Dome Depot and die. The sch waits to get them back up until a minute later for swiftcast, and we finish up the boss. On our way to the third boss, I start to wonder if this guy even has situational awareness, but I simply decide to chalk it up to bad luck.

Third boss, the sam decides to stand in the cross-section of some of the ground aoes and immediately goes splat. Third red flag. I ask them what actually killed them, and he replied with something along the lines of 'I don't know, I've never seen this much damage before.' wat? Sch gets him back up, and this somewhat repeats throughout the fight. The chains he didn't seem to be very aware of either whenever he was chained to either the brd or sch.

Mind you, it takes longer to get Heat Meiser down because the sam didn't seem to understand his class either (timer on dungeon and how long fights took told me the brd was doing more damage than the sam.) as every so often I would see Higabana on bosses, but the dot would drop off and never be reapplied. As such I watched our sch struggle to just keep us up, and it got to the point when the sam died once more that he just simply let him stay there. We down the boss with the three of us, I comm the sch and watch the brd immediately head out. I wanted to tell the sam that he should at least be more aware of dodging, but I was far too tired to type it out properly.

Whole run took about 30 minutes. A painful amount of time, but I will give that sch insane amount of credit for dealing with a not-very aware dps.

Is "being RDM" suddenly some sort of a condition of being a "bad DPS"?
I keep getting RDMs in roulettes that just don't AoE, stand around and watch birds or whatever and just... don't do their job? One even tried to convince me they were just standing around, because the "adds dies too fast for their casting" and it "takes time to target something else" or something along that way.
And the other rdm (and this one was in Akadaemia Anyder) was literally standing in EVERY BAD POSSIBLE. like you got the feeling it was rather a bot, even if they responded to a question, still...

Did leveling roulette with my WHM friend who wanted to level their NIN (I was a WAR) and got Dzemael Darkhold. Our healer was an AST who almost never focused on healing the party and kept pulling more trash even though we were focusing on another group of trash. I was doing small pulls, so we don't die because this AST didn't look like they could handle big pulls. We wiped once because the AST kept pulling mobs from the bottom and didn't AoE heal the party until we were quarter of our health. Needless to say, we commed the DRG with us for being calm this entire time.

I queued for Mentor Roulette as SCH and it showed 1/1/2 party when I accepted. I was thinking it was going to be a Dungeon or Guildhest. I ended up at Rathalos EX. I haven't done this as healer (usually used tank when it was current.) There was no first time bonus. With some communication in the chat and following mechanics as they come along, we beat Rathalos in one attempt without any deaths.

RDM has quite a longstanding reputation for having bad players in DF.

My personal favorite is the Jolt Mage. However I read that someone ran into a Hardcast Mage, that is, not using Jolt at all, but hard casting only Veraero and Verthunder.

Edit: I reckon this job gets comms rather easily because good ones are so rare, but I can't really confirm that through experience since I haven't touched it in months.

Had an Amurot as a healer where the RDM and tank would spam heals whenever they took any kind of dmg.

Took an AoE? Vercure. At 80%? Clemency. I took any kind of dmg? Vercure + Clemency.

I ended up just letting them heal as me and my BLM friend just DPS'd the run took forever to complete even after I told them you'll be fine just DPS, I just don't get why people feel the need to spam heal yourself when you're in 0 danger of dying. Worst part is they said nothing the whole run despite us begging for them to stop healing sigh.

For tanks, I don't get it. Tanks are always the center of attention for the healer. As a DPS, though, I don't always trust the healer to notice my guts hanging out while they're fixated on the tank. If my health drops below 30%-ish in a dungeon, I pop Life Surge, Second Wind, and Bloodbath. If it's a trial and I know a highly damaging mechanic is coming up, I'll pop them at 50%.

I rarely find myself healing myself as a DPS, there have been a few times as a melee i'm like "well I should use Second Wind and Bloodbath" but I can't remember the last time a healer let me die when I was at 30% hp dungeons don't warrant any kind of panic even expert ones. Never hurts to be prepared though.

Had this early afternoon a Praetorium run that started with Player 1 complaining about how he hates sifting through the cutscenes and just wants to skip them, multiple times during the first couple of minutes during the (smooth) run. After a while their smartness went together with another player (both from the same server, and maybe FC or at least seemed to be familar with the other) in standby mode because they decided it would be wise idea to discuss in party chat how and when to skip the cutscenes by the known bug/exploit or whatever it's classified of disconnecting and reconnecting. There has been enough pages of discussion about amount of reward in relation to unskippable cutscenes and whether using that "feature" is legit/good/bad/to be promoted etc, so I won't go further, but jeeze, way to be subtle about it *lol*.

In all fairness, when picking up RDM after this last expac, I didn't realize what the two new tiers of aero and thunder were and it took a few plays to realize they were fleshed out aoe spells. That said, hard casting and/or no aoe by level 80 is....eh. Are there redmage jump potions now because that sounds like that might be a thing?

I started playing melee recently and bloodbath/second wind is my response to one of my "oopsies" as a form of apology or if the healers are underperforming to the point they would let me die. OR if the tank isn't using any cds keeping the healer busy and I'm for some reason taking damage (unavoidable damage, an oopsie, tank not holding aggro, tank cleaving party members, etc).

EDIT: I almost forgot about my story last night.

I am finishing DRG and I queued up for NM Raids. I get a 1-min in-progress A9. I'm a bit confused, but probably someone thought it wasn't their cup of tea and left. We arrive to the Faust and we wait for the last healer (I have no idea how many people left but we were only lacking that when I joined). The healer said it's ok, we should pull. We wipe. So I advice the tanks to stack together to share Faust's cleave. Then we clear. I ask who's gonna take care of the bombs and I get corrected because semantics. "They are called power cores". Same thing. Whatever.

So we start the fight, and one of the mentor tanks goes ahead and pull. It's a trainwreck. While I advice that no one but the asignated person should deal with the POWER CORES, someone thought it was a good idea to help out and revived the first pack, feeding the Refurbisher. This happens twice, as the second pack had half the adds alive by the time the lava ate 'em. The damage becomes a pain in the rear, Faust drops, no one has aggro on it. The MNK brings it to the lava, it explodes and we wipe.

One of the mentors is anxious, and the other mentor asks who doesn't know the fight. Mentor A starts saying that they should watch a vid, while Mentor B the other says they have the right to experience the content on their own. There's a back and forth between both of them... while I'm there explaining the power cores, the the rocks, where to place Faust and that we should all DPS the adds once they are placed in the right quadrant. As I was in mid-explanation, asking if people had questions, the GCBTW Mentor tank pulls without any idea of where to face the boss.

Kind of a trainwreck, but newbies picked some of my explanations up so it was matter of enduring the ongoing back and forth between both Mentors. Even if they weren't wearing the crown, they should have the decency of making sure everyone was on the same boat before starting the fight. We killed it that pull, and everyone bolted asap once the cutscene was over.

While I didn't get any commendations, I am glad I could help the newbies as the people that should that were too busy fightning with each other.

Oh, not just a Hardcast Mage. The first ~half a year of the job existing that was literally a third of all Red Mages I saw. Most of them French.
Have only seen 2 or 3 since then though.

On another note, I seem to keep ending up in in-prog-parties in all my roulettes where a healer is missing when I join (leveling DPS currently, done with T&H). Almost a daily occurrence in the last week. Odd.

All of those skills you listed are oGCD heals that don't impact your dps in any way. RDM Vercure removes a full GCD worth of damage every time it is used. The only time I ever use Vercure is if I know that there is an incoming damage headed my way and I won't survive without it, during a boss jump to prepare the dualcast proc, or if the healer died and I need to take over healing while they're in the rezz animation.

Well, as a MSQ rusher who never did ARR Coil, HW Alex, SB Ivalice and most of the post-MSQ content, I am kind of lacking in that department. Now doing Alexander due to Anima Sharpened Grinding.

I queue for A9N as MNK, went it, Say "first timer" and found out we start with 4 ppl. I thought A9 is a light dungeon or something, until someone point out the other 4 are leaving the raid since no mogtomb gain.

After mob clearing,got rekted by 1st Faust due to no tank sharing cleave. Thats where others came in. Then smooth fight until boss.

The boss rekt people once (power core and Faust stuff), then someone asked who first timer. I replied. Then watch a passion debate between 2 fellas (no idea Mentor or not) of "go watch a 4 yr guide" vs "don't spoil people first time" etc etc. And yes, one person (DRG) did the explanation, with my conclusion of "kill adds", "kill Faust after lured to marked corner", "hide behind rocks".

The thing that differentiate the run between the previous guy quoted above is that this run everyone is kind of prepared before the fight is initiated, at least from my POV. Also I think they did pre-asign roles even on the first time, just not as detailed compared to later attempts.

Now don't get me wrong, I did checked the videos, but I don't have a great memory to memorized everything. What I only get out from the vid is kill adds, the rest is from muscle memory.

Side note: I am tempted to use "you don't pay my sub" to increase drama during debate, but Sharpened Anima comes first.

Ran leveling roulette as NIN. Landed in Dohn Mheg and get a tank and dnc from the same server. Someone, I'm assuming the tank, marks all the buffing fuaths as target to attack. That's it. They don't actually interrupt them and neither does the dancer so all Watering Wheel buffs go to mobs. During the last fuath with the 2 treants he once again marks the fuath as a target to attack and then proceeds to not even hold hate on the trees. I'm obviously ignoring this non-sense and AOEing and soon I have a new best friend that wants to hug me. The dancer stands in double AOEs, dies and proclaims "alright then, I'll start dodging" like he was somehow entitled to not doing that. During some of the last mobs I notice them standing far away from the mobs. Whether they were single targetting or spamming their AOE out of its range I couldn't say. How do you know to prioritize the fuath but not why and what you're supposed to do to them? How do you not understand that trying not to stand in avoidable AOEs is something anyone should do. It's, like, below the baseline basic.

Leveling NIN in Doma Castle. Get a new person as co dps, Returning tank and AST healer. co-dps and tank are doing everything proper. I look over the AST and see her only casting heals and jumping around during downtime.

"Aww, this poor healer" I think to myself. "My heart goes to you. I get it: you're bored, aren't you? And SE leaving you with only two-three dps spells in your arsenal? I totally get it. Let me help you liven this run up for you."

And so, yours truly decides to help the healer's pure healing gameplay out by staying in every. telegraphed. and visual. attacks.

You gotta help those pure-healing, jumping healers out. They're so bored out of their minds that no one's taking dmg but somehow forbidden to touch their dps tools that you gotta give them a hand and take damage.

If you're reading this AST, I hope I gave you a good time :P

Speaking of jumping healers, I got a sprout Conjurer in a roulette party in Tam-Tara [I'm leveling an archer] and the only thing she was doing was to heal the tank (a mentor, mind you) now and then while the rest of the time she kept jumping around, even in the middle of the battle going around mobs. Seeing that no one was saying anything I asked her politely to stop doing it. She didn't. I waited for the battle with the second Void demon to finish and left.
I prefer taking a half an hour penalty than being around annoying players.

Well, I just finished Ridorana Lighthouse as GNB. Let's just I was anywhere from third highest dps to the fifth dps... OF THE WHOLE ENTIRE RAID.

Edit: The two dps that beat me also only beat me by a couple hundred. It was that bad.

I have a tank main in an FC that talks about how he gives healers something to do by not moving out of telegraphed attacks.

I also think he's a child and I wouldn't heal him if my life depended on it.

DPS was in need for normal raid roulette so I queued up as DNC and landed in E2. There was a new person bonus message.

The guy who got the first stack marker ran off by himself and died alone. One of the tanks typed ? in chat. Second stack marker dude ran off by himself and died - I’m not sure if it was the same person or not to be honest. The tank from before said “I can’t wait to get off crystal” and I replied with “Aether isn’t any better if you think you’ll find solace there”.

We cleared the boss, in one attempt, and the bitter tank said “anywhere has got to be better than here. Too many mouth breathers”

We literally just cleared the boss in one shot, and it wasn’t even a messy clear besides the stack marker guys going off alone, and this guy is insulting people in the party and the entire data center.

Who again is the mouth breather, tank?

And for my 2 cents regarding aether vs crystal, since I recently moved from aether to crystal, is that they are the same in regards to the bads and the decent you get grouped with (at least in duty finder.) one thing I have noticed, and it’s totally anecdotal, is that there are less bikini glamours. I think people care more about their image on crystal and maybe that has to do with balmung and mateus, but what do I know.

I think its due to overall Crystal has an overall clear rate of savage content that is abysmal. And I say this bc I lurk in certain places on Reddit where they make fun of Aether vs Crystal a lot. People who raid in these places sneer at Crystal and its clearing abilities. But here's the thing. Raiders were advertising that they were going to remain on Aether bc of Gilgamesh, a well-known raid server, was going to be on Aether. So it becomes the question of which came first the chicken or the egg situation. Balmung historically has been made fun of for being an rp server and that its full of bad players. Iirc, during the new raids, Balmung despite its size also had an abysmal savage raid clear rate. I think that it has more to do with that the fact until HW, you had to arrange for parties on your server. So much like Balmung being the advertised server for rp'ers Gilgamesh became the center of raiders. The barriers were broken down, but more skilled players remained on certain servers.

However, this meme that Crystal is bad Aether is good, is stupid when you stop and think about it. It's the DF and it's not savage. But people insist on that being the standard on deciding which populace has the worse df player base. Yes, we don't clear savage as much. Gee, I wonder why. Might have something to do with our populace being geared for other things. But that doesn't stop Aether from having people who do not partake in high-end content from clogging up the queues. Hell, on reddit there is a thread just like ours and I see more Aether horror stories than Crystal atm. (The most being the EU data center). But you better bet that when a horror story happens with all the checkmarks checked (cat girl, bf/gf combo, Balmung/Mateus, don't pay my sub) it becomes the focal point and it continues.

What I am saying is, it will be a LOT of work to break this stereotype if it can even be broken. And you are correct, I've played on Aether with my alt. Same bs and at the same rate.

As someone who recently transferred from Balmung to Gilgamesh and enjoying Aether DC, all I can say is... oh my sweet summer child. But everyone is different, perhaps you'll enjoy Crystal a lot more than I do. Either way, cheers mate we're like exchange students here, haha :D

My goodness, I'd like to extend some praise to that tank I had yesterday in Tam-Tara while I was on BRD. It was like 10-11 minutes and that was AMAZING!! Hands down the fastest Tam-Tara run ever!! Just hearing all the individual hits of Quick Nock against those big mobs you pulled really made me miss that BRD game play and rejuvenated me a little as I've been a bit jaded as of late. It was that rare magical PUG where everyone was on the same page. But just know, you put a smile on my face and it made that boring dungeon "fun". Thanks. :)

That sounds like my last DF run of the day yesterday. I just needed a couple more mog tomes for my round lanner, so made my own mini roulette of the tome dropping baby dungeons. First run was a Toto Rak where the only happening of note was my net dcing me right before second boss.

The true gem of the night was a lovely, lightning fast run of Tam Tara. The tank was amazing; fast mass pulls, never losing hate even when I had to toss a heal mid pull (I was on AST).

If that tank is reading this, thank you! You injected some fun back into a normally slow and boring dungeon.

For all the flak that Orbonne Monastery gets for its difficulty and all, I was in a run where there we beat each boss in only one attempt. Thanks to everyone who stayed in that run. It was a real fun and exciting one.

Phew, i finally cleared E4s, took the full 120 minute lock out to do it, but it's done.

Had several close ones before we finally killed the guy, had one enrage at 1% another at 0,8% and then yet another at 0,2% before we got him.

Also made a few mistakes on the second merry-go-round, lost track of where i was supposed to be and had to adjust by jumping into one of the free outer tiles, sacrificing some uptime to make certain my momentary disorientation would not cause deaths and cost us the run. I maintain that it was worth it.

Today I learned you can easily wipe on the Vassago's in LoTA.

Either the tanks are bad at keeping the Vassagos apart and/or people don't kill the bombs fast enough. Both occurrences factor into the main bomb blowing up and wiping all 3 alliance teams (the former having a bigger influence moreso than the latter.)

Ran Expert roulette and our tank had really low HP.. come to find out he was rocking 390-400 armor and random 75+ jewelry. I called him out on it and they said it was the best they had. mind you they had other tanks level 80 as well. I'm like dude you literally get free 430 gear for your class. They were like where I said where you get it is literally part of the MSQ and they said they haven't made it that far... Expert roulette mind you..

Black mage spamming Fire in Bardam's Mettle during a 6+ mob pull... I left immediately.

Ha, I had the bomb blow up today (although a different group based on the class comp in the pictures). The way it happened is the way things usually get messed up in alliance raids -- someone sprinted and dashed ahead to pull as soon as they physically could before 3/4 of the raid was there, and no one ever sorted out the resulting chaos of everything being stacked up.

I had this happen a few hours ago as well lol. The tank in my party would sprint ahead and pull before people were even there. He tried to tank all three adds and caused us to wipe.

I had a Mhach last night with a WHM doing that. Who then got pissy when someone pointed out that it was causing problems... dude sprinted ahead of the entire raid and pulled everything.
