*You sir are what I like to call a Prick. It is players like yourself that shouldn't be allowed to play a game as awesome as FFXIV. You must consider that there are players with different level of skill. And if you decide to devote you life to this game then so be it, but don't judge others's skill levels based on the amount of time they put to perfecting their character. Sure you may be decked out in Darklight and are whipping around a Primal weapon. Yes I may be wearing a Full suit of the Artifact gear that I gained in ARR, I have a life after all.
Yea guys, I have a life.
AF is middle of the road gear anyway, in 2-3 weeks nobody will be using it anymore.
AF2 is where its at and that stuff will take 5 months to get a full set.
Oh what did you do that for? I was hoping for atleast some effort in getting this, now we all look the same. There is nothing wrong with getting it in Dungeon or through difficult Quest. I feel like FFXIV is too solo friendly now, I just wish we have more stuff to do in party instead. I play this game with my friends, and I feel like I'm solo through almost everything. This is an MMORPG it is not? We play with each other and friends through team work and fun time?
Next we will have whiners about the Hard Primal being Hard?
Jobs are for group play by design.
Should the job quest not also be for group play? Why making a questline for a group play element soloable?
Was it not possible do put it in duty finder? At least the last quest should be a party quest.
Hardly, Square finally reliazed that if they wanted their shit-heap of a game to succed they would have to actually listen to the people who shovel 13 bucks a month into thier coffers. All the complaining I've seen has been by the players who stuck through V.1 and got everything. Well Guess what, It sucked so I quit. So no I didnt get a set of artifact gear or a primal weapon through easier means.
Who gives a damn??? It's replaced the second you get it.....
So no matter what they do, they ind of loose I assume. Personally I would be however interrested which part of the groups are the bigger ones with their wishes. Considering that more of the 'Progamer' faction complains in taht acse and satisfied people are normally silent and not even visist the Forum, I think there are not to many that were against that move. Forums can be quite misguideing.
Has it ever occurred to the development team that people liked how AF quests worked and didn't speak up because they were content? Are you really going to make everything in this game a boring filler once people start complaining about it? How long until the story primal battles turn into brainless content too?
And at level 40-50, there isn't much worthwhile content to do that doesn't involve parties. Why does someone need the final job quest completed if they are already not dealing with demanding content like the final dungeons and the endgame after? It doesn't make any sense to make your game feel like a tutorial for 50 levels, when it already contains content that has already surpass that. Story titan is nearly 20 levels before the final AF quest. People should not be that weak at that point.
Anyway, congrats on making the quests so easy they are boring and forgettable. I'm sure every ARR player will remember the day they got some loot from a very solo easy quest (much like they've been doing for the previous 40 to 50 levels) that became outdated after a few dungeon raids, a week later. Yep, that's how you build memories. This is totally the reason AF was a milestone in FFXI and FFXIV 1.0.
because it's just the basic gear set for the beginning of your endgame life.
Because it is crap gear. It is only for you to feel like you are finally a full fledged (insert job). Just cause its blue doesn't make it good.
AF gear is mostly iconic, entry level 50 dungeon gear. It's not even that good compared to what you can get in AV and other dungeons if you're lucky. Had SE not called it "AF", people probably wouldn't care. Misguided correlation to FFXI I guess.
You get to "work" for your AF+1, which is meaningful, and tells everyone you're a badass.
Would you like people in white gear in your AK runs? That's what I thought. Calm your nuts.
Exactly. SE wants this game to be popular, and attractive to a lot more people than their previous online titles, including these "casuals" you kids look down upon.
Considering those who are pushing BCoB are saying that you only need partial DL gear and AK greens to do the first couple turns, and Titan is certainly a lower gear requirement than BCoB, I am going to go out on a limb here and say you don't know what you are talking about. Ifrit can be easily done with lower gear (had a kill where someone was stupid and messed up the LB for spikes so we had to full burn them and STILL had time... gear is not the issue here, it is having tanks know how to interrupt and people not standing in the stupid). Garuda is slightly harder, hey, maybe you should go get a better weapon from the level 49 piece of trash you got from a quest and up your off pieces from level 20 somethings... Oh look now you have enough gear. Titan is the ONLY one that requires any amount of gear and even then he doesn't require much. I bet you are one of those who hates people running titan without their relic weapon (when in order to even get said relic weapon you have to kill titan)
Wait, what? If you are playing as your base class for any content past 30 you are doing it wrong. Get rid of that GLD preset, you should only be running around as a PLD. The only possible exception to this, is running around the world doing solo content since the argument can be made that you can pull from more cross class abilities that way. But even then, I have yet to face solo content that wasn't completely doable as my Job (and I am a squishy BLM... you just stand there an lol at their damage and even have a heal if the situation gets really dire)
If people feel full-fledged, then what's their incentive to stay subbed?
No one is going to keep paying to play a ultra-shallow casualfest. Just look at post-WotLK WoW-- not a single positive quarter for sub retention in years.
I felt completely underwhelmed by the AF "quest", which consisted of walking up to some boxes with no danger presented to me at all.
This thread again? Its very rewarding for the people who spent 100+ hours already doing EVERY.SINGLE.QUEST. up to that point. Perhaps you haven't seen the work it takes to get all your endgame gear. Stop bitchong because you blazed through it. Create another character and do every little thing. Maybe then you'll appreciate the AF gear a little more. Besides AF gear is only good for Ifirt HM anywaysm. Seems the duty finder likes to throw people in level 50 dungeons under geared anyways.
Because shouting for hours for a single piece of AF in 1.0 was so much fun. (If you'd dare suggest "get some friends", consider how many friends quit due to the broken state FFXIV 1.0 was in.) Everyone else had to either be on the same fight or help you out of the goodness of their heart, as there was nothing in it for them.
It was archaic, time consuming and dull. We don't need that again, there's plenty of better gear in endgame to waste time on.
If you disagree, well, feel free to go back to FFXI. The rest of us actually want to evolve. ♪
I don't know why folks think being "handed" AF is a big deal. It almost instantly becomes trash gear. Even all the drops from Amdapor Keep quickly become trash gear. As soon as you hit 50, you need to progress in gear several times as quickly as possible if you want to continue doing more and more content. It's not like you're going to be wrecking Titan hard mode in your hand-me-down AF, because you're not, and that's like the 3rd quest after the main scenario ends. Good luck!
By full fledged I mean they finally reflect their job, they have all the actions/spells and look the part. They are ready to start endgame, NOT face roll the hardest content in the game.
People reference 1.0 as being strides better, it wasn't. Most of it could be soloed or was as hard as getting 4 people to run you half way through a dungeon and then group up for a jokingly easy final fight for the body. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QGw6aBln2c (Fisherman FTW)
I know at least personally I had better gear in pretty much every slot by the time I even finished my AF. Melded Tights, GC Head and Body, Melded Spruce Pattens, Melded Ringbands etc. In 2.0 you can buy better than AF for maybe 30~50k and if not you will get drops that are better as soon as you enter AK. FFXI was pretty much the same, most AF was macroed in depending on situation. AF never has been nor will it ever be great gear, it is intended to fulfill the "Look" of the job based on FF lore and history and as such should not be difficult or time consuming to achieve.
ffxi and ffxiv 1.0 players just cant understand or don't want to understand that af is endgame starter gear not top teir
Umm AF Gear is total crap...if your worried about AF handout...then you got another thing coming endgame...
The reward matches the difficulty. Cheap throwaway {mostly} appearance set a reward for finishing the line of class quests.
Sounds about perfect to me.
And if this game goes F2P like most WoW-clones after 1 or 2 years (compared to FFXI's +11), only then will I be retroactively correct? Let's wait until the launch hype dies down until we talk about booming popularity. I'm sure it is not hard to notice the negativity surrounding the terrible (yet forgettable) leveling experience on secondary classes (FATEs) and the tomestone grind is catching up.
FFXI did a great job at keeping players invested in a game and building a community throughout (let's not even begin to talk about ARR's "community" lol). Levels 1 to 50(or 74) wasn't just throwaway, it was an important part of the game's content cycle: leveling your character and their other jobs with others was something everyone did even after hitting endgame. FFXI content wasn't always amazing, but people put up with lots of grinding for over a decade - meanwhile, "modernized" WoW killers would rise and fall in short order (meaning the EXACT type of game ARR is now). The reason why this is should be appealing to all MMO developers.
FFXIV 1.23 never got to escape the shadow of the 1.0 launch (where AF quests didn't even exist), nor were developers trying to reestablish it yet. People didn't begin playing ARR because they saw that interesting AF quests were removed and it was like every other MMO they've been playing since WoW. They are giving it a shot because SE spent a lot of PR dollars escaping the shadow of the original launch. 1.23 (or whatever good qualities it had that may be absent from ARR) was never given the time of day. Moreover, high level quests was hardly where 1.23 had its faults (although you certainly felt the lack of content production then). During the 7th Umbral Era story arc (GC quests), they spent all of their effort on level +30 content, rather than fixing the low level game or guildleves (the main way to level since 1.0). This is reasonable enough when you are not trying to sell the game to new gamers (as they are now with ARR), but rather keeping a small niche entertained until a relaunch.
Af being easy to attain isn't that big an issue since before you had to open chests all over some in dungeons some not in 1.0 .I'm surpised no ones complaining about having to do all the new job quests to get to the AF part.I had a 45 Blm and had to level archer to 15 to even start them ABSURD.
AF in this game is a reward for hitting lv. 45-50. FFXI kind of gives you the idea that it needs to be a crazy huge epic chore to get, but honestly it makes sense they'd reward you for finishing the leveling of a job.
I don't see a problem with it -- the Advanced AF we'll get from future end game/a level cap increase will likely require a lot of effort.
You will see what happens after the free 30 days on what the player base will be or end up and you can expect millions to leave and not because of the fees alone even though some people are cheap.but people living in game and getting bored or lack of content . I mean I see people whining about the game needs more quests already...maybe those people should spend more time in the real world and get off the couch(PS3 version) or get out of your PC chair.
Couple things, while I think they did make it a little too easy I am ok with it. This gear is really just the starter stuff for what's to come. Better gear, level cap increase, all going to make this the set to have by 50 but by no means is it the last set of gear. I played FFXI for years and that AF was moderately challenging at best but seeing as you got the last piece at 60 it was by no means your final set. Basically a good quality set that anyone and everyone should have to get them started. People need to lose the whole elite attitude and stop acting like no one should be allowed decent gear unless they spend 12 hours a day playing while attached to a headset. There is far more to this game than grinding to level cap and getting the highest gearscore.
Artifact armor doesn't have to not matter (SE doesn't have to make the set nothing but boring stat boosts), but even if it doesn't matter, job quests don't have to not matter. If the milestone isn't the actual armor set, then make it the final job ability. In either case, we lost that milestone (and opportunity to forge community bonds) and it smoothed the game out so people are sliding right into the endgame grind with less memorable moments of the 1-59 experience (and more so for when they are doing new classes).
I like the fact that they give you some shinies to get you prepped for ENTRY level end game content. You still must grind since that gear is not that great compared to what can be earned after.
They went a good route imo and allows more players to get their feet wet. Other games catered to that 1% exclusive club mentality for years and when they eased up on it: subs shot up through roof to 12+ mill at one point.
End result is happier players = more subs = more money for SE.
You got your exclusive elite club with HMs and Coil right? Good luck smoothly doing the tough ones in that 'awsome' AF gear...
Because your AF is entry-level 50 gear. Even the dungeon greens outdo it. It just looks nice, that's all.
I replaced most of my AF gear within a day. (Going from 45-50)
I don't mind easy-to-obtain gear but you could have at least swapped the AF gear with the Darklight gear. Both are incredibly easy to obtain but at least it'd be more interesting to grind all those tokens with AF gear as the reward.
