It was the explicit prize as advertised as SE. My expectations were completely inline with what was told.
And that's exactly how it went for a decade, until a sudden flip of the switch

You got the title prestige at least and experience of playing in the past which is something newer players will never ever get to experience, anyway yeah don't trust yoship-p's words.
That is literally how it was framed. It has nothing to do with values. Aside valuing SE's words as being truthful just to be rugpulled later.
I still have yet to hear a convincing answer as to why SE should not create -new- armor for the PvP set instead of bringing back the old one that they lied about being exclusively one-time only.
I don't think this is a healthy approach to have, especially not for a videogame. You were pointlessly stressed for a month grinding a gamemode you didn't enjoy, and now you wish that others should be pointlessly stressed in the same way? Why not be happy that there DOESN'T need to be this degree of frustration in a game you probably like?
I've been there, too. Lots of people have been in these situations, even if it wasn't specifically in FFXIV. Grinding out PvP in some other videogame for months feeling like it's your second job, booting the game up every day and working up the motivation to press that queue button, even though deep down you don't want to. And I'm so, so happy I don't need to do that at this moment. Even happier that my friends won't have to. Do you have friends who play FFXIV? Someone who gives you a reason to think about what other players feel?
If anything this is the perfect example of what players in this community are ready to endure just because they want a reward, no matter how toxic a specific piece of content is to them mentally.
Because the people putting in the demand for old stuff to come back are not doing it because they want more PvP rewards or more accessible stuff, it's because they want the stuff that once was accessible but is now not to be accessible again because they like the appearance of those specific sets.
I mean, there is an option for 'middle ground'. A dye-able recolor of those OG special-super-unique-reward sets as a 'new' reward, but let's be honest, that's extra effort and wouldn't make the people miffed about it any less angry, so there's no point.
It's like that meme comic about a guy who wants to just order coffee and yall are the cashier offering all the weird mixed drinks (aka 'compromises') when all the guy wants is to be able to get some plain old coffee (aka access to the old sets).
I'll be honest, I don't even know what those sets look like or why the demand for them been enough for SE to even bother (must be VERY high for them to actually, yknow, do something over nothing), but it is absolutely hilarious that people defending the idea of permanent exclusivity do so while closing their eyes and ears and pretending like they do not understand the one and only reason why people want it. "Oh, they want more rewards for PvP!" no they want access to those clothes "They want to steal our glory!" they just want the clothes "They must want more clothing options to be added" no, they want those specific ones "They just want to push out us oldheads" they dont even know you exist they just want the outfit.
I promise you 99.9% of the people defending the exclusivity of the stupid armor sets would cheer and clap like seals if they brought back a previously-exclusive reward they liked and did not have
But yeah, crying stolen valor over pixels lmfao
I think the stolen valor argument is at least understandable, if what they release is indiscernable from the genuine article (i.e. no Replica distinction). But for the design in general? Yeah, that one's a bit much.
No, it's more like the guy walks into Starbucks in the middle of Winter and orders the exclusive St. Patrick's Day limited-time drink that is only served for the week of the holiday and the cashier is wondering why this man is acting belligerent over being told no.
Now just replace "the guy" and "this man" with "the majority of the player base" and you will understand why the devs are making the change. No small group of players should have a say over changes that benefit everyone except them like the people that hate the glam restriction changes. Call the majority of players entitled all you want but what they want matters more to square enix than what a fraction of old top 100 players want and the company is making the common sense business move of listening to the masses.
This is also a good move for the game's budget because the gear and mounts are already made. They are just locked behind an arbitrary restriction to access them. So all the effort/money used making the sets and mounts will not be wasted if they just turn the switch on that puts them back in the game as rewards. This also doesn't mean that new pvp rewards will NEVER be made again like some people think just because the feast rewards are coming back.
This may upset you personally, maybe even cause you to quit the game before you reach Dawntrail. But the benefit of adding them vastly outweigh the negatives whether you understand that or not. There are plenty of other MMOs that punish their players the way you want them to if that's what you're interested in.
If they did add the mounts back, what are some ways you think they could make them different from the original without completely changing them? Maybe change the colors of the eyes and mouth of the hellhound mounts but keep the same body color? Possibly change the color of the rocket boosters on the flying chair mounts? Or they could possibly go the king porxie mount route and just add something extra on the model similar to how the king porxie has a crown on its head but besides that looks the exact same as the beast tribe alternative. There's lots of things they could do but I can only think of the examples I mentioned.
Look everyone in this forum is projecting there gameplay onto others. You guys really need to stop. If people want items like this then you guys need to stop acting like its a problem. Your literally hindering the games growth. Thats like me saying I hope no one gets a regalia like I did then get angry people get it? Or basically I dont want people to get fall guy items so i hope it doesnt come back...... Honestly you guys telling people they dont want this to come back are literally hurting this game more than helping.
Well right now SE doesn't need anyone on the NA servers with what little they've done for the DDOS.
So like making cool pvp rewards available to everyone, and being lied to about the cool exclusive rewards you got from certain competitions no longer being exclusive are separate things?
I think everyone agrees that the game making cool rewards available for everyone is a good thing and winners-only exclusive items aren’t necessary anymore.
They could just make new cool rewards, but they chose to go back on their words and bring back items that were already labeled as limited exclusive for competition winners as the rewards. Competition is the key word here, it’s a reward you earned from competing to be the top players, you didn’t get it by chance. It must feel like being betrayed, and it’s only natural to be upset. You don’t normally hand out gold medals or trophies to just anyone.
While this may make many people happy that they will get cool rewards that they may have always wanted, it also shows that the devs' words may not be trusted and reduces any credibility they may have.
I'd have more sympathy if the bulk majority of feast rankings weren't cheated to high hell and back. Imagine locking some incredibly nice glams behind fomo win trading.
OMG THIS THISS RIGHT HERE is a call to action. People stop acting like you hate the players like bruh we want to see growth you all who dont like growth really need to just leave. Like I dont get it. You hate proggress but complain there is no proggress....please stop doing that its annoying.
No, that's not what they meant. They specifically wrote "a majority". There is an agenda behind every one of those messages, and it's to push people away from the modes.
Everybody knows win trading has been a problem since forever. There is a gigantic difference between "people trading wins" and a majority having won their rewards out of win trading. It's offensive to read.
Just stop. The entire issue is that SE has gone back on their word. Stop painting this as some gatekeeping nonsense that we just don't want others to have the rewards. It isn't about that. I don't even have the feast rewards and agree that this is a move that makes SE's words worth less than dirt. It would be the exact same thing as SE suddenly handing out Legacy chocobos to players who didn't start in 1.0 and pay the sub when the game was in a poor state to show support to SE. It's utter BS.
I second this. Everytime I read "oh the majority just wintraded for it" it makes me a bit sick to the stomach, because I know what I fought for and who I fought for it. It was most certainly not the majority, like 90-95% of my matches in season 19 for example felt quite real. I loathe the "everyone wintraded" narrative people keep parroting like drones rather than form more than one logical thought and ask themselves how realistic this even is.
Were there wintraders? Yes. Were they the majority? Not even close and the few that we noticed, we removed (i.e. got reported) and they generally got their position on the leaderboard removed.
But it would take actually interacting with the community to know this, not being an armchair expert over a mode they only heard about via a cousin's distant cousin.
Times change. OP sounds like they don't even play anymore but still want to complain. The earth belongs to its newest generations just as much it does to its oldest ones. The argument can be turned on its head so easily.
While we're doing things that are good for the health of the game but that piss off a small handful of old heads who barely play anymore, let's demo the housing wards that are owned by a single person.
Just because something once was one way does not mean it should stay that way forever and dragging along a restriction from years past just doesn't make any sense.
I get the feeling we're motivated by different things. I cleared every ultimate because I want to play the game. The titles and weapons are at best a nice bonus, but wether or not someone else can make their character look like mine has no impact on how good it made me feel to make dragon king thordan eat dirt the first time.
If you wanna quit, OP, fine, but if not, maybe instead of complaining, go play the game.
That's a lot of people's only experience with ranked Feast. Love it or hate it, it was a real problem that kept people who sincerely wanted to work for the rewards, from getting them, so yeah, they're understandably bitter. I think it's not so much an issue of we fought for this and no one else should have it" but rather how easy or hard the replicas/mounts will be to get. Will they be tradeable for wolf marks (Please no), Trophy crystals? (also please no but it will probably be this way because it's just a matter of dropping the asset into the progress tracker). Commendation Crystals? Now we're talking. That lets us put in the same amount of comparable effort (Diamond) to get it as those who got them originally. And if you get Crystal+? You get more crystals so you get the thing faster.
That's an achievement to be proud of whether you did it in 2015 or 2025.
The devs are human just like everyone else and are free to change their minds on a certain stance they made many MANY years ago if they see enough reason to do so. This kind of flexibility is essential to running a live service game due to the importance of listening to feedback so that they can keep/increase their players. I know I keep bringing up the glamour change but it is also a great example of the devs changing their previous stance for the benefit of the player base with Yoshi P stating in the past that he doesn't believe a black mage in armor would look right. You can take it as the devs going back on their word, but I see it as the devs learning from the feedback and not letting their pride stop them from changing their minds on their previous statements.
(Same as unlocking job restriction for glams, I’m pretty sure SE just broke the emergency glass to try drawing people back to the game after massive number drop from the recent company financial report and they very unlikely did this out of kindness just because player feedbacks but oh well.)
Lmao rip bozo
I now think there's another reason PVP Feast veterans don't want their pixel trophy not being shared amongst their fellow players:
RMT. Money. Dindin. Gold.
Since Feast rewards are exclusive, their accounts have more real world monetary value.
If one were to sell their account with a exclusive item, it would sell for 10x more.
How do you know everyone knows it's not what it is about? How can you be so sure it's not about money?
Are all Feast winners some kind of saints?
Selling MMORPG accounts is a practice as old as... as MMOs lol
Feast rewards are just pixels, for Twelve's sake. What would justify all this commotion for a bunch of pixels?
