We've been asking for years to just create Med-Large form apartments with patios for 'outside' furnishing. It would probably fix most concerns.
Not many people really care about the house actually being in a neighborhood. In-fact, it's more annoying because you have people building ugly shit next to you. lol
Ideally I wish we just had full instance plots like Wildstar, where you're just on an island. It was perfect. https://youtu.be/7jLc0esD1fc
I actually do have empathy for your position, and trying to help you avoid something I already went through in another game. I played Star Wars Galaxies for many years, I put in a lot of effort, loved the game, had issues but I over looked that because I enjoyed it. Managed to unlock Jedi and put time and effort into that. Then... they gutted the game with something called the "New Game Experience" and completely destroyed everything I had worked very very hard and long for. I learned the hard way that putting your life tears and massive effort into a video game, is bad for you mentally. was just trying to point you in a direction to avoid the same trauma. chances are I enjoy a LOT of the things you do, I just view them from a different perspective.
lack of empathy? your call of course, but I dont think not agreeing with you is showing a lack of empathy, just a different viewpoint.
Thanks - I really appreciate it. I'm not trying to be a dick. But some things just come off as complete lack of empathy, when we're all just trying to come to a mutual agreement on what things suck, and what things work regardless of what's within our control.
I also played SWG, we owned a large Bounty Hunter city. Getting all of those messages about everyone quitting and destroying everything was devastating.
What are you talking about, Wildstar the game, or the housing? Because you can think a game is shit while also understand that it retains some good systems.
Are you actually saying what we have now is better than your own, non FOMO (everyone gets one) private world?
Not.. Always the case. No. There's a bit nuance and some complexity with willingness.. There can be some form of compromise, and regardless of you signing said contract, you may not always like all of the obligations - You can retain the right to disagree with those obligations while also signing said contract. It's literally what the political system is.
When you start a new job, do you have to agree with all points in the contract? No, it's often a form of compromise.
Come on, I know you're an old dude - You understand these nuances. It's not so black and white as "We both signed". Also, for players that have been with XIV for as long as we have, we understand that things evolve over time. That doesn't mean I'm under some weird contract that I have to agree with everything Yoshi and CBU:III does. I don't always agree with the changes. Sometimes I do.
This discussion completely disregards all changes we've been through the past decade. We can be upset at stupid shit. We retain that right. Even while playing said game.
Yeah, Smedley is the reason I no longer have loyalty to any gaming company. There is a person who personifies "lack of empathy" with his "dont let the door hit you on the way out" message to the players who paid for an expansion when he knew that what they got...was not what they paid for.
That's potentially part of it on the story-side of things at least (though I disagree that post ew has been ARR levels of build up; I'll elaborate on that later). But when I talked about lackluster content I was thinking of how the new alliance raid just burns down before the bosses can even do anything. Or how variant dungeons were like baby difficulty on the normal mode and then savage/savage+ on the ramped up difficulties with no in between even though we were told it would be ex tier, and then the rewards for completing said savage mode were super lackluster. Or how island sanctuary turned out to be a node clicking timegated experience with some glams held hostage at the end to encourage people to bother with it, and even the devs themselves warned that it would be lackluster and told us not to get our hopes up for it. Or the massive gaps of time (4 months) between each content burst, leading to a story that's obviously not meant to have the same weight as the one that just finished or the one that's going to start in 7.0, a dungeon that's literally "pull 2, stop, pull 2, boss" on loop, and maybe a trial. Or the relic "grind" that's been the same "gib tomes" step repeated twice now. And it's the same amount too, because of course it is. No thought behind it, no special request, literally just hand him tomes, twice in a row, for a reskinned token. Hell, the deep dungeon is the first thing in a hot minute where it looks like players can really sink their teeth into it. Personally, I'm not seeing the hype behind randomized floors of occasionally dangerous trash mobs, but I won't discount it for personal reasons. The only things I've felt were quality in the postgame have been Aglaia, Barbariccia EX, and Hildibrand. The variant dungeon was actually quite enjoyable, but simply lacked staying power. This could have been remedied by tying it directly to the relic somehow (like how they made certain bozja fates give specific coins, etc) but eh. I don't do savage, but literally everyone I know who did this tier bitched and moaned about it every tuesday and now most of them don't play anymore while the ones who do have stopped caring about their weeklies in that regard. I don't want to talk about something I know nothing about, so I'll just let that speak for itself.
In any case, that's what I initially meant. The actual gameplay content we've received has just been lazily done or it's extremely shallow on the end that I've experienced. It's obvious and just common knowledge that their best devs are clearly busy with something else (ff16), so I hope the thing they're busy with (ff16) is worth it since they're putting post-EW's quality on the backburner to get it done.
(going to talk about the story a little bit, so possible spoilers if anyone reading this is new)
Also one last thing -- the post EW story being extremely dull is actually not the nothingburger people think it is. Each chapter of a story should inspire faith in the writers' ability to tell a compelling narrative. Failure to do this might make people stop reading future installments. Now don't get me wrong, when the devs implied that the next chapter might have smaller stakes than what we saw with endwalker, I was excited. When the writers showed the scions going their separate ways and implied that the next chapter wouldn't be about them, I was thrilled. But what did we get? The void expansion. With another potentially world ending threat. And the scions return once more to, uhh, deal with it or something. You claimed that people might be less wowed by the story because it's back to ARR levels of buildup. I wish we had ARR levels of build up. But this isn't build up at all. We're right back in the trenches again, with another world ending conflict only this time it's revolving around characters we barely know and don't quite give a damn about. If this were building to something good, I'd give credit where it's due, but the whole thing feels like a final fantasy 4 filler arc that'll resolve by 7.0. The way the scions were like "guess this is it, goodbye" and then returned immediately in 6.1 or whatever had big "straight to vhs sequel" vibes. You have no idea how much I would have loved an actual reset followed by buildup into what was supposed to be 7.0. If I'm wrong and they route this into 7.0, I will happily admit that I was wrong. But right now I'm not seeing it. I wish the writers would just create an organic and likeable character and not one that's just shoved down my throat like Zero was. I wish they had the courage to truly leave the scions behind for longer than a single patch. I wish characters could die and actually stay dead like they did in heavensward. Genuinely wish the writing team had the balls to make the audience feel something. Would love to be proven wrong in 6.4, genuinely.
Correct, but also incorrect. There is a bit of coercion involved. If you unsub and leave the game, you lose your house, thus persuading players to stay subbed under threat (I don't mean real danger, so I can clarify and not leave that one open to interpretation or open to someone twisting my words) of housing demolitions and return regularly even if they don't want to at the time. Players know what they are doing and what they are getting into. They just aren't always happy about it.
This excuse keeps being brought up and it simply doesn't add up. None of the content released in 6.3 has any lasting longevity to cover a four month cycle even if played at a slower pace, Ultimate notwithstanding. Deep Dungeon is the only piece of content that has any sense of longevity that isn't passive. Case in point, when 6.3 dropped, friends and I had everything wrapped up in a single day. We neither rushed the story nor the 24 man. They just don't have any longevity. My raid group at the time did Rubicante that evening. Basically, by the weekend, I had everything 6.3 offered done except getting to rank 12 in Island Sanctuary. That took me a week of spending two minutes setting up spreadsheets.
Nobody is asking XIV to keep them occupied for an entire patch cycle. They're asking for content to last longer than a week.
Comments like this generally confuse me. You're surprised by a dungeon that is "literally"...well...the same exact design that has been used in every dungeon for several expansions now? I haven't seen the new bosses in Euphrosyne burned down at all yet. They're still going through their entire movesets, most of which have unique mechanics not previously seen in AR's. Yes, we'll eventually outgear it so badly that some parts will get skipped, but again, that happens every patch. Oh yes, and of course, let's just largely disregard the key facet of the latest patch (new Deep Dungeon).
The rest of your commentary is nothing but pure opinion trying to masquerade as if it's facts. Personally, I found the Variant dungeons very enjoyable, and I haven't even gotten around to Criterion yet (or IS for that matter). There's very little I would call lazily done or "shallow" in the new content. Only exception would possibly be using just tomestones for the next relic step, but again - personally I don't mind since I also play several other games, with Destiny 2 being my main right now since a new xpac just came out, so a simpler step where I can do basically anything I enjoy and still progress the relic is fine with me for this time around.
Does anyone just love to watch the Endwalker scene when launching the game? I'm looking for that quality.
I'm glad at least one person understands where I'm coming from. I know folks don't like me here and I get labeled all the time. I simply just see things for what they are. I can say til im blue in the face that I understand why folks feel the way that they do. I just have to point out that in the end we have to operate around the systems presented to us. And if we'd rather not we always have to choice to not engage. I don't care to be "more righter" nor am I talking in circles. People will just disagree with me and sadly...I can't do anything to change that. Their minds are made up.
Enjoy what you will people. Just don't disregard the reality..
'Just unhappy' that they agreed to known terms and conditions, discovering that those are actually enforced (outside of certain exceptions)?
That is no more coercion than purchasing a house in Real Life with the expectation that there are no additional costs such as insurance and property taxes you will pay for the next 15-30 years. You may be unhappy with it, but you either pay it or lose your house.
It's because what you're both saying, although true - Don't actually matter within the context of our discussion and our general frustration. Did you already forget the actual discussion? Or are you just purposefully being obtuse?
Yes I have a personal and FC house. Yes I can be salty. But the context here is that some of us that have engaged in this content, also want to take a break. So we will take that break, but at the cost of keeping the sub. Because the mental cost of trying to re-obtain the access to this type of content again is too much. As you already know. These are facts, and I will continue to keep my sub. It's annual so it doesn't even matter to me. But it would be nice if we didn't have to worry about such a shitty FOMO system.
Now, we can all agree that it would be nice. Correct? So why is this even a debate.
Let's move on with our lives, stop telling people they can't wish for a more friendly, non-FOMO oriented system.
Throwing around "Yeah well you signed the contract" is just.. Toxic? We know what we're playing. We just have wishes. It's how games evolve. By asking for things and engaging with dev and our community. Always responding with "Yeah but dems da rulez" is just trolling at this point. We know. You don't have to engage. I don't know why you put yourself in a position to engage. It's pointless on your end because the only goal you would have is to shut down discussion around requesting a better experience for all of us.
People dislike you because you add no value to the discussion. You're just trying to say things to piss people off for some reason. Maybe you should pay attention to what you're providing the group. Do you feel you're increasing the overall happiness and engagement of this discussion? Do you often interject discussions in real life by sowing conflict with 0 value? Do you find yourself often left out of group discussions because you "Tell it like it is"?
What you provide isn't constructive. It's dismissive.
Sorry but I cant personally relate to this as I enjoy playing other games and have a working job and a tight schedule, and I learned not to just rush things (even though you claim to have done so). Grinds get boring extremely fast and I cannot sit through doing the same thing for more than an hour. So the content grind presented to me in this patch with Deep Dungeon, Weapon relic and Crafter/Gatherer relic I cannot do within a single day because its not fun. I can only feasibly do a bit at a time and then move on to something else. So while yes, theoretically these grinds for can be done within a day, I just lack the time and interest to do such a thing because its seriously not worth it imo.
So what I basically wind up doing is spreading the grinds out a little bit each day so it doesnt get stale nor boring in my short playtime and I can focus on other things. This way, I can avoid burnout and still have some enjoyment playing the game so what it winds up doing is this content taking me more than a week to fully complete. The fact that Im even allowed to do something like this in an MMO and not feel pressured to rush is a fresh of breath air for my time.
You're welcome. I have also had similar "conversations" where the person you're trying to have a discussion where they're just not understanding for whatever reason what you're say. To the point where even though you do your best in trying to be clear in what you're trying to say the other person doesn't or refuses to try. To the point that they start claiming you're saying something you're not. Or trying to change the scope of the conversation.
Is this a sequel to Elfen Lied? It doesn't quite roll off the tongue. Well if people start exploding around Yoshi-P we will have a good idea why.

Are you seriously drawing parallels to real life housing? You really think you have made a point here?
Bruh the miles some people go to defend some really bad game-design is astonishing. Or this is really bad trolling. :,D
I'd say it partially is. If part of their intention is to get a rise out of someone and to goad them into saying something that's against forum rules I'd say that crosses into trolling territory. It's not as blatant as trolling by parroting memes and being outright obnoxious, but instead it's a more refined type of trolling. They're looking to get under people's skin, that way if someone does go off on them they can now use that as ammo by saying "See??! the FFXIV critics are unhinged lunatics! Look how angry they are!" Part of their schtick is to create the illusion that FFXIV critics are unreasonable and belligerent so they can have an easier time dismissing criticism of the game.
The way some people are trying to diminish the value of housing and their level of stubbornness here is truly astonishing.
You look like little kindergarten kids flailing around in a tantrum, refusing to acknowledge in any way that some people hold value in housing, and how losing their house is an actually big deal to them.
It's nothing but petty and disgusting arrogance, how you try to diminish people's appreciation & valuing of it.
It’s really something. Applying RL settings to a game where you’re supposed to have fun.
Then again he’s right in the sense that just like RL, SE will do anything to get to your wallet and force a sub.
So the whole « unsub and do something else » is bs.
If we have to apply RL stuff for « immersion » in the game, I want to be forced to sleep at least 7 eorzean hours per day, eat 3 meals a day, and take dumps on lalafells.
I’m sure this guy would change his tune real quick.
No one here is doing that. If anyone is looking how you describe its the people claiming theyre being forced to do something n throwing out false labels when they don't agree with people. Everyone n their mother knows housing is valuable, but people act like it's a do or die situation. Like the world ends if they lose a home. That's not healthy especially over something that's virtual and really only costs 15$ every month and a half.
I say this, feel however you want to feel about your home. I'm right there with you. But for all the complaints about the system (rightfully so) SE is getting your money. I'm wiling to say Yoshi Ps statement about leaving n playing something can be bs to you. It's not bs to me and I'll leave when I want and for how long I so choose.
Me out here watching certain trolls getting demolished in real time:

I'm not going to get into...whatever...the current topic is in the last few pages.
I wanted to go back to something I saw mentioned earlier. I saw some comments about not knowing what is being built up to in the story. But consider this for a moment. Isn't this a good thing? We aren't sure where they're going to take things. We don't know how they might shake things up. Instead of having things run on a fairly predictable path, anything could happen. I find that intriguing at the very least.
If 5.X is anything to go by, BLU will be 6.45.
Most of my forum browsing or interaction is either when I’m eating food or on the way to work or before bed haha. I have plenty of bits to do in the game but there is bigger grinds in other games I’m having to speed through first and granted not as enjoyable.
I don't think it was malicious or a lie on Yoshi P's party, but SOMEthing seems to have happened. Though I'll note you've got a few pieces wrong.
-Criterion was a few new (or new in this form) systems tried out for the first time, and the story was interesting. The rewards were a bit lacking, but standard fare for a lot of side-content (glam gear and some random extras like minions or mounts)
-The Relic is a result of the last FOUR OF THEM having people complain about every single step. I think it's less laziness and more exasperation and trying this out to see if people prefer it. This is basically the HW Relic just without the middle-man. Many of those steps you bought the parts with tomes, you just had to then do something like combine the parts or whatnot, so it made it seem more interesting and less "generic tome buying generic item".
-Orthos adds a new aesthetic and several new pommanders that can change how you do content, such as how Storms works if you think you can round up large groups and use it before dying, the Slow spell one, and the Demi-clones don't work like the HoH Summons did, instead of being one big wide area attack, they're minions that follow and support you on the floor. The boss encounters are also more like "regular" boss fights in the game in terms of mechanics, rather than PotD's "regular enemy with more health" or HoH's "we'll add a mechanic or two from SB". It also allows leveling from 81-90 outside of Bozja, and has a lot of collectable rewards. The bosses are also less slogs while the regular enemies have more health vs the player damage output for the first few floors, normalizing around 30ish. Will change up a bit how one solos them. Not to mention the risk of big pulls due to the way the telegraphs are pretty darn deadly, like the Grenade explosions or the 21-30 floor Dragon Swinge attack. From 10,000 feet, any DD is going to appear more or less the same, but Orthos is different enough to be interesting and NOT just a carbon copy of HoH. I don't think it was lazy at all.
-I don't like IS. But I don't think it was lazy, per se. Again, a lot of new systems. It's just not my type of content playing middle-manager to a cheap labor sweatshop. With the base in the game, they can add little things over time like glamour gear or mounts/minions and it be its self-contained little thing on the side. I'm miffed because I feel it robbed me of something I really like (Exploration Content like Eureka/Bozja), but for what it is, it's not terrible.
-MSQ has used Trials before. ARR did it quite a few times, including the Igly fight and most of the Primals. Not the side ones like Mog, but Shiva and I think Odin were both MSQ, as were the original trio and Leviathan. HW had Niddy in 3.3, was it? SB had Tsuyu, and ShB had WoL. While HW, SB, and ShB deviated from this with a lot of their "sets" of Trials (Warring Triad, Four Lords, and WEAPONS and also Memoria on the side), EW doing an ARR is hardly unprecedented, and every past expansion has had at least one Trial that was a major story event in a patch. It's just not been more than one since ARR. I do feel that some of the story has been a bit thin, but I also think it's kind of a "holding pattern" until 6.4/6.5 which will set up 7.0.
Unfortunately, that's kinda made the expansion feel like a "holding pattern" as well. Which...may end up amazing if 7.0 is mind blowing and amazing, or...may feel less so if it's...not.
I'm here for it either way, but I do understand the complaints.
