Regardless of this conversation going on in this thread, if someone is playing FF14 on console, they should really invest in a wireless keyboard, they aren't that expensive and can be bought at any big box store. If they can't afford a keyboard, then they got more serious issues they need to deal with than playing FF14.

How many console games require a keyboard? Maybe its not exactly worth the investment. A keyboard for 1 game while pc players, it comes with the hardware. I have a keyboard. I just can’t be bothered to grab it to talk to random i will probably never meet again. I doubt people don’t have them simply because they can’t afford them. It’s because its not worth adding hardware for a singular game if you aren’t there to be social in the first place. Unless you are raiding on console, I don’t see socializing being necessary.
Also, maybe people aren’t talking because they are in voice chat with people they actually want to speak to. That's not a fair expectation. I've had to learn very harshly how much I'm actually allowed to expect from players in this game. Talking is the bottom of the barrel.

I play on PC with Keyboard and mouse. Outside of the initial "Hello" I really find I can't talk during a dungeon. I simply cannot type and run/cast/heal at the same time. It is not disrespect. It is simple inability to do it and my job in the dungeon be it DPS or Heals.

Now as a healer I have been known to stand still long enough to say "Slow down please" or "OOM" if necessary but in those situations someone is going to die if I don't do it. Someone MIGHT die if I do stop but I will risk it.

My highest lvl healer is only 42ish. I do not have my full healing kit. Though I am careful to conserve mana, if I have a tank consistently pulling too much (or the wrong thing, I am looking at you bees) I can get overwhelmed. If the tank is squishy but thinks he/she is god I will OOM. Now I admit I am new at healing and my skills are improving. I just am not there yet where problems never happen.

A good tank will see I am struggling or about to go OOM and I won't need to say anything. They are watching my bars and react without being told.

I had one wonderful tank that when I said at the beginning of the dungeon with my hello that I was a new healer and hadn't healed that dungeon before said "Ok we go slower and see how it goes." Then later when I handled his pulls he asked me if it was ok to try and go bigger. I said "I can give it a try." He pulled much larger and I pulled it off but really struggled. For the rest of the dungeon he found a middle point between the two which challenged me but did not overwhelm. I really wish I could have commended him more than once. What a perfect way to help a new healer learn.

My responses were for the other two. I'm all for going faster in a dungeon. But if someone an issue and they can't be bothered to type it out on the on screen keyboard with PS4/PS5 because it's to troublesome and don't want to get a keyboard to make it easier to communicate, that's their issue, not the community's.

The op is going on about being friendly. Casual conversation. It’s not entirely about issues. As I said I have a keyboard. If it’s not in front of me it’s cause I don’t have an issue. That’s a good thing. But there are other, indirect ways to communicate. Our species is versatile like that. People shouldn’t be expected to shell out money for something they are hardly going to use.

Eh, no. If you can't read someone without them having to spell it out to you, that sounds like a you problem.

I play on PC and even I don't always feel like stopping to talk. If I start moving forward towards the next set of mobs and start jumping continuously, tanks understand what I'm trying to indicate and run to pull the next group. I shouldn't need to say "come here and pull". Jumping in the game in group content is synonymous with "come here".

And no, sometimes talking is not the most effective way to communicate. A lot of people don't look at chat unless there is downtime. And how would that work if you're doing any boss fight/trial with a new person? You don't have time to communicate with words where they should be. So you run to the right spot and jump like crazy hoping that they notice in time.

Communication doesn't just have to mean words.

When I rescue a tank to another mob pack am I not communicating that I want bigger pulls? If a dps pulls a mob are they not communicating they want bigger pulls? If everyone does their job I.E. Healer keeps everyone alive, Tank has all the aggro, DPS burn things down theoretically everything would work fine in a vacuum so unless those pulls actually cause a wipe there isn't a problem.
No communication is needed unless you fail, sabotaging your group because of some misguided sense of purpose does not count. Do your job.

Rushing? You do have to consider many players don't have all day to play this game. They have kids or jobs to attend to. So they do big pulls in dungeons to be able to squeeze the most playtime possible. Also if you play tank and you do single pulls don't expect people to like that, because tanks and healers even with average gear are able to clear dungeons in a fast and efficient way without any troubles.

Actually communication is a set term. There can be different ways to communicate. But in a game in order for people to get you correctly there 2. Chat or emotes.
When I rescue a tank to another mob packb you force it not communicating. You Skip nthis part.

Rescuing a tank like that is actually griefing and probably against the ToS.

After i have seen all the marvelous story with my white mage i will play a Paladin. I will see what my team mates do, specially the healer. I they like more slow go, no problem for me, i like that too. If the healer says, no problem just pull faster i will try that too.
For me its just communication and this works in FF14 fine for me so far. With the sprout sign i heard often from the tank that i just should let him know when its to fast for me. So probably my writing will be as a Paladin, just let me know when its too slow.

I dunno man, i play mmo's to experience the adventuring with others. That includes the whole communicating aspect. I kind of agree, would be nice for more communication in dungeons while passing the time.... But it's not possible because the battle system does not allow for it

I may not agree with it, but that's not griefing. They're not rescuing the tank into death. It's not force-wiping and it's not MPK. They are the healer, they are keeping them alive. It may be annoying, sure, but griefing? That's a pretty far stretch.

For some, it's the fact that the instance has been ran so many times that aspects are mind-numbing. That isn't to say these dungeons aren't beautiful. I still enjoy hullbreaker isle by just being outside. Wanderer's Palace (HM), it still gets me every time the tonberry asks if we're here to help them, I get pumped. It doesn't make damage dealing part any better.

There's also the reward, for a lot of people the only reward is clearing your dailies or putting a new sticker on Khloe's book. I will say that I'm not a huge fan of the large amounts of flashy aoe's that come with everyone putting multiple mobs into one area and seeing a ton of holy's and other aoe's. For me, it's annoying. It doesn't mean I do not accept the fact that pulling multiple groups of mobs is the way to go.

If you're not comfortable with pulling that many, communicate that. Same goes for other party members. Do not have a keyboard? well then..your hands are tied. When I say comfortable I mean you either do no like pulling that much or can't.

Experiencing content you should be aware that there is a baseline of what people expect from everyone. The older or easier the content gets due to the players item level, the quicker instances can be completed. This means you can move on to your next task, and there's nothing wrong with that.

There isn't much to benefit from pulling groups of 3, when you can pull more and perform the same task and take the mobs out in the same amount of time as you could with just pulling 3.

There are so many variants with why people play the way they do. Our job, as players, is to come to a common ground and strive to be better. If you can take 6 mobs right now, try for 9. Not every healer is going to keep you alive, not every DPS is going to perform perfect rotations, not every tank is going to mitigate damage the same way.

Some might feel this is "caving in" on both sides. In the end if you have a tank / healer that can't handle those large pulls or if the DPS is too slow (I'm looking at you BLM with Dawn Wristguards! People playing as their class and not jobs so they can say they aren't drinking the Kool-Aid!) Then the party needs to make adjustments. Maybe that means talking it out, maybe that means someone leaving or being kicked.

This isn't a new mentality, and it isn't something that happens just in the game. Think about certain parts of real life where you take your time at first but as you get more efficient you can go a bit faster, get more done. Almost like when you're driving and you get behind someone who is going 10 miles slower, or going the speed limit on the dot and the moment they go uphill their speed goes down another 5 miles. Some people get frustrated, because you know you can go faster, do a bit better and get to where you need to be on time. That person going slower is just making things harder for everyone. At the same time, the jerk going 15 miles over the speed limit and cuts you off just so they can make an immediate turn forcing you to break hard isn't much better.

From my perspective, that's how I view this and in the end it's the matter of someone wanting to put in the work or being comfortable with the level of skill they are at, thinking of themselves and no one else. Just know there are consequences to such actions.

It is griefing. That is not the purpose of rescue. This is forcing a playstyle on another player, just running ahead and pulling is one thing, but not pulling a player into mobs. I'm sure it wouldn't be bannable unless the player who is rescuing actually stated their intent in chat though.

For that matter, yeah, I already know all the explanations, and the supposed altruism of the people "rescuing" said players. Those arguments are mostly nonsense in my opinion, players just want to go fast, and don't care if they force that playstyle on others. The intent to grief would have to be present. It can be seen as communicating. So unless the healer was actively talking before hand or the tank said not to do it again and they did anyways, I’m sure it will be passable

I find it very silly that you think that is forcing a play style when you can just walk back to the mobs and ignore them. Also trying to go intentionally slower is also forcing a playstyle on others. As is expecting them to type or brandish them as "not communicating". I'm really getting tired of this bs argument.

It is not any different than someone running ahead and pulling the mobs to the tank. Either way, the mobs are picked up. So you could say that even that is "forcing your play style" (which it isn't) as the results are the exact same. How can you say one is okay and the other is griefing?

Just because you find it annoying does not make it against ToS.

Pulling slow isn't forcing a playstyle on anybody. Pulling a player into a group of adds is. There is a difference here. If a player doesn't want to go slow, then by all means go run ahead! Just please don't act like this is a proper use of rescue.

Oh I got a short story. I was doing delubrum with my rl spouse. Last boss. Decided to troll each other. They pulled me during forced March and I landed in a safe spot anyways. However, I rescued them during push back bombs. Sprinted and I was safe. Then however… died to the ring of bad. What I didn’t notice is someone reraised them prior. So auto rezd into death ring. 1 rescue = 2 kills. If that’s not it’s proper use idk what is

But if I use rescue on a tank to pull them further along, I am intending communication to pull more mobs. If they ignore that and walk back and don't pull more, then they are communicating to me that they won't.

Ah, so if they don't die because of it, it is no longer an issue. That even says that a penalty -may- be possible if it causes a wipe. Like I said, it's annoying. If you don't like someone doing it, tell them. As you say communication is so important, after all. Running to the GMs because someone rescued you into a group of mobs as a tank, and then proceeded to keep you alive would be quite silly.
