Hi Res textures yes please.
But what I really want to know is when we are getting a DX12 Client.
:p
I do think it would not be hard if the devs were to upgrade to DX12 in the future. All they would need is change the API? Or the runtime or whatever. I'm not a guru or anything, but I think it would not be that hard to do.
doubt it will happen before 4.0, that's when I hope they end PS3 support. Of course you have my like anyway. :D
Don't know if this was mentioned in the thread anywhere, but this line is pulled from the Live Letter XIX http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/215163
Uncompressed textures, even if it's not high resolution, would hopefully eliminate the terrible jaggy/muddy textures we see.Quote:
Furthermore, with the DirectX 11 version, characters will be rendered with uncompressed textures, making them look even more impressive. The visual quality of objects in the background has also improved, and even the texture of characters’ skin will look more realistic.
Bump. Support this thread!
Bump~
SE you are not getting away till you consider giving us Hi Res Texture Pack :D
Bump!!!!!!!!!!
A little on the side, by the way, but I guess this is a good sign that SE is being quite friendly with DX12...
But yeah, high-res textures would still be nice to happen before that. To be quite honest, I really don't even understand why it's not an option by default, it's not like it needs a complete rewrite of the engine to allow something like that on PCs that can handle it. :/
I hope this happens very soon~
they changed something on the PS4 too, and because of that, now the framerate svcks.. when turning the camera too much, you get a headache instead of enjoying the nice landscapes (like Mor Dhona..)
they should change back those textures and gives as smooth FFXIV on the PS4 again
..
theyre overdoing it.. better keep the game smooth, who cares if the textures look a bit better on "pics" if the game doenst run smooth anymore .. going to start a sh1tstorm, if heavensward has the same framerate issue.., I allways pushed for "FFXIV best MMO on the market". but not anymore if they dont fix this
(if they dont fix this, we're going to quite the game)
at least a way to force Hi-res textures on my character :(
Honestly I don't even care for the DX11 hype. Ok, tesellation is nice but that's it. The change is really minor, I would rather have better textures. I am not asking for whole high res remake but some textures are fine, some are really low res. That should be changed so all the textures would be on same res level.
Yoshi-san, HD Texture Pack please!
Even if it sales as an optional glamoure item in the mog station. $$$. But please do it.
Wow way to bump a year and a half old thread..
Sorry to say it but the graphics will never improve until SE stops supporting PS3.
Never understood why the PC must wait for SE to drop the PS3 support to get something that can run right now. Did PS3 got the DX11 client? No. Did the PS4 got it? No (DX11 features and not a fully DX11 client is coming to PS4 later). Why should the PC wait for PS3 to die in order to get a higher res option? I never understood that.
Sadly still no report of it coming soon?
SLOW...
Game is already a graphical resource hog.
I'd like to see a low res option. Options like disable all weather graphics, disable sky graphics, disable all ground clutter, and turn down draw / render distance. Stuff like FFXI had.
People are trying to finally get rid of PS3 limitations and you want them to support PCs weaker than PS3s for more limitations? There's no point attempting to support very dated hardware if it's going to restrict further development of content, and before someone says "but option settings means each preset can look different", sure, but it's not going to stop the fact that they won't be able to make incredibly large areas if they so desired, or world bosses twice the size of Bismarck.
How is it limiting to simply add the same suite of on/off options every other major MMO has?
Heck, Turbine goes a step further and even maintains two versions of the client PLUS offering on/off options for all effects in each. You also see this sort of dual-client support for a lot of Korean style games as well.
If the game was designed from the start with scalability in mind it shouldnt be a stumbling block for the dev team. It would just take more time and effort to get the system set up but once its in place it takes care of itself.
Although it does make sense if SE does not wish to make that sort of investment. They already did roll a huge amount of money into this game. Twice. And since its a pay to play, they dont have to be so concerned with targeting as wide an audience as a company like Turbine, etc.
It could well be SE just figures its time and money better spent elsewhere.
Oh, come one people! This game is really cheap and affordable anyways, what's the monthly subscription again? it is just $14... That at year is... (plus retainer, plus expansion...) oh wait.
Mr. Yoshi, I changed my mind.
I want HD texture pack for free
Now!
NOW I SAID!!!
Yes please.
people who say "ps3 limitation" should stop.
the only reasons i have in mind why SE doesnt want to do this is either they dont want to make console players feel jealous, or they just dont want to spend resource on it, or both. :p
They already have all the assets in very high res saved somewhere, no developer just deletes assets like that because they're done with them (and they're clearly not, plenty of reused assets in HW). It would take development resources sure, but not to the point of that it would be a detriment to their team. As for making console users jealous, well we already got DX11 and they don't seem to have a problem separating console and PC players there, don't see why this would be any different.
I'd really like an official response to this. They claim to listen to feedback on the forums, but when it comes to things that aren't a minion they go ignored, even if they're one of the more asked for features. Want the game to last 10 years? How about not making the textures look like something out of an early PS3 game? I may have understood needing to have poor quality textures if the world was massive and connected rather than making everything cut off (and even then, reduce the quality of textures far off like every other game), but that's not the case.
Yoshi and team refusing to answer this. They only gave a vague answer that they will keep improving the graphic quality of the game in future. What this means nobody knows. One can only hope one day we will get higher res textures, DoF effects and more AA solutions.
so basically you want to go back to 1.0 where you need top of the line pc and still lag lol
I'll be glad to get a high res texture pack, so long as it is only for pc. PS3 LIMITATIONS always put a damper on this game's potential
There are these things called options y'know, if you aren't capable of running higher resolution textures, then turn the texture quality down. To add to that, textures weren't the main issue with 1.0's poor performance, it was crappily optimized, and other parts played a much larger part into it, such a the incredibly high polygon count. Your average gaming computer in this day would have at least 2GB of VRAM. I run a fairly mid-high end rig, and FFXIV barely makes use of it's available VRAM, using only 1/4th of the available amount (second line). This is in the Churning Mists, a large open Heavensward area with everything cranked up to max.

Gaming computers today are more than capable of handling significantly better graphics, the only thing holding them back is SE at the moment.
