Would you want account progression?

I also would want to exclude those tied to relic weapons or crafting/gathering achievements. One could end up locking that alt out of a glamor. Since not everyone would want their alt to have crafting unlocked so it could look and feel odd for them to have a lucius ect.

I started a fresh character in November to replay ARR and HW, and am very glad I did. There's something to be said for experiencing being a brand-newbie without a Gil to your name again.

There's also something to be said for having account-wide things. Here's what I'd like:

1. Minions and mounts
2. Loot. A lot of those Untradable items my retainers bring back on one character would be awfully nice to have as glams on the other.
3. Mail. Being able to mail stuff between characters would be a huge QoL improvement
4. Unlimited mailing of Gil between all characters on a world. Not between worlds, just within the one on which the gold is being mailed.
5. House/Apartment/FC Room tenancy.
6. Mogstation purchases
7. Hairstyles

I'm torn on achievements, leaning towards not, since so many of them are tied to story progression and not just random Grind X of These and similar.

I honestly don't know much about crafting so I can't weigh in on that. Relic-related titles being character locked I can see.

Other MMOs allow you to either fully level within a few hrs of efficient grind, i.e. wow, or grant far faster levelling on other characters i.e Lost Ark, Gw2, SWTOR etc.

What? Just because something stops RMT doesn't make it good. RMT is going to exist either way. All you saying is to cripple the overall user experience for 99% of the player base because one guy buys gold.

Secondly, the gear grind in the game is token-based. Thirdly just have achievements, mounts etc. be account-wide.

Instead of just complaining and using what-if arguments, grow a brain and contribute to how the goal might be achieved were not playing other MMOs where playing FF14 and it could be better.

Other MMOs don't allow you to play multiple classes on a single character. The ability to full level within a few hours of efficient grind is fairly new for WoW. How do I know? I played the game for 10 years, and had an alt for each class, both Alliance and Horde side. I know how long it used to take 14 years after initial release of that game. It wasn't a 'few hours'.

I feel like this is a bit of a strong reaction to the conversation.

This is not a what-if conversation about dramatically changing game systems, it's about unlocking some things like mounts/minions/triple triad cards on alts. Giving what is earned on a main to an alt's collections tabs. Something like this is nice for alt players and does not affect the people who play only one character at all. (And like I said IF something like this were to happen it would have to involve some engine overhauls that would only help other areas of the game where things are a bit, let's face it, janky.)

I grant it started that way.

However, at this point, the thread has also contained suggestions that completing the MSQ on one character should complete it on all your characters, and that you should be able to funnel XP from one character to level a job on another, and so on.

The justification for this being examples like "other games let you level alt characters from fresh to cap in a few hours", while FFXIV gates "I want this alt to catch up to that one" behind story skips and job boosts.

...and so on. So at this point, it seems like more than mounts and minions are under discussion.

(Side note: I think the existing armory bonus -- the chonky XP boost to any job that isn't your highest level one -- is meant to be FFXIV's equivalent to 'faster leveling of alts'.)

DPZ2's post might've been vehement, but it's not irrelevant; parts of this thread have in fact been discussing fairly dramatic changes to existing game systems. (E.g. MSQ progression, how you level jobs, etc.)
