and I don't know about you, but it's been advertised as opening cinematic since a month or so before it was shown. I'd consider that a mislabel on the localization team
Isn't the fact that your character is in Ishgard for the entire trailer a spoiler as well, since the entire MSQ pretty much hammers in the fact that Ishgard is closed off to us outsiders? SE just shouldn't make trailers for their expansion at all, too many spoilers the expansion is now spoiled.
I play games for their story most of the time. Considering how most game openings tend to be timed to hype you up for the story, and often played after the intro; it makes no sense to skip them, imo.
The localization team has it correct I'd say. Trailer is usually the same thing as the opening (+ possible added text/etc) for japanese games.
In fact the opening having spoilers is precisely what makes them interesting for new players.
I don't understand you said from watching the end of an era trailer you were sold on the game. And I'm guessing that you've continued playing right up to the conclusion of the current storyline.
Isn't it contradictory now to turn around and say that people would be turned off the game by spoilers when that's how you were drawn in?
I admit I only watched it once so I don't remember every word that came onscreen but all I'm getting at is that the entire trailer shows off quite a bit that is built up to in the MSQ that really any part of it could be spoiler and not just the five seconds of flashback of that "one moment," as mentioned by the OP.
The fact that you are asking this question when the answer is in the very post you are quoting is the kind of thing that goes to show that people don't even read or try to understand my posts.
It is perplexing that posts like this are getting likes, though obviously it can be assumed that one or two people are going through the thread and liking every post that argues for their side.
