We have been looking into this until now. In FFXIV ARR through configuration you would be able to freely change from displaying full name or just first name.

JP thread doesn't go into specifics like the NA thread did so we may hear more from NA rep on the NA thread. I just read below and was like, hold on a sec, NA side had ways to work around this... so I translated the NA post and posted in there below Foxclon's post.

Bassbar on JP thread asked in beta test phase 3 when we use our existing character if we can level them. Say you got Lv40, Lv50 classes and Lv15 class, what will happen in beta?
