FFXIV: ARR Fun Time Economics Part 1: Costs
I really wish people would pull out a calculator and do some math before posting here. The fact that some responses are from people who still don't read makes me pity our society. I will note ahead of time that numbers are rough and not exact due to variabilities in playstyle. I will give a rough number to give an idea of costs and earnings.

If it was a major issue, it would already be addressed. Even if that were the case, there wouldn't be any kind of disastrous effect. It would just change how people play the game. Quit whining about how you're not a millionaire from spamming leves and dungeons. Learn to use the marketplace and get on a land/hand class.
1. Don't post without reading again. You've just humiliated yourself and shown how few braincells are functioning. Since there are many who still haven't grasped the concept, I'm going to put the message in caps, and in nice big bold letters.
MARKETPLACE DOES NOT GENERATE GIL. IT ONLY HELPS PERSONAL WEALTH WHILE DEPLETING THE ECONOMY GIL.
2. Fun Fact time for those that failed high school senior year economics class.
a. The GENERATION of gil is defined in the game as any amount of gil brought into the economy. It DOES NOT come from any other player through the marketboard.
b. the marketboard is a means to increase PERSONAL WEALTH ONLY. This drains money from the economy due to a 5-10% tax on AH items. That tax money is pretty much burned and will never be seen again.
c. A does not equal B
3. Math time also for those that failed High school economics
a. Levels 1-49: The first 49 levels you have the choice of picking up alagan pieces from quests. Anyone who is in this category is ignorant (not by their own choosing) because they have a constant cash flow. (They are ignorant by their own choosing if they read facts and do not learn though). From these levels, one can safely earn a nestegg of between 200k-300k gil. However, this money from these 49 levels is a one time deal. You cannot go back and do it again to re-earn this nestegg.
b. Level 50: Repairs: Anyone who fits into the above category (in terms of your main. Alts and Legacy do not pertain to A and SHOULD understand B) has not experienced the repair bills of lvl 50s with high level gear. 1-49 tends to have a repair bill of 500-2000 (2000 being those with the first pieces of AF armor and have completely broken gear, but are still making quest gil so they still pertain). Lvl 50 gear (we'll use DL) can reach between 5-8k for a repair bill. Math time.
We'll assume that there are 200 Lvl 50s with full DL gear that are on the low end and have a 5k repair bill. That is 1mil gil gone in the blink of an eye. That's assuming that there is only 200 out of maybe 200k players in need of repair with that gear at the low end of the repair spectrum. Every time there are this many people in need of repairs at that stage in the game destroys 1mil gil. Battleclasses are expensive.
b2: Relic Weapon Quest: This costs money too. Assuming that one focused on their battle class and not every single crafting and gathering class, this quest can be pretty expensive. With the DoH and DoL, you could be looking at 50-100k overall. That is if you got your own materials, crafted everything, had perfect groups for all instance requirements, and farmed your 900 Myth tomes without much trouble.
If your battleclass focused, you're looking more at 200k gil (maybe 150k right now due to item deflation). That's on top of your 2-8k repair bills from dungeoning which is not an option if you plan on succeeding in your dungeons with the decent gear youll need.
c. Crafting costs: Yes, leveling up a craft costs gil. No class leveling is free. If you level up 1 DoH: We'll say that at the end you've spent 10k gil. This is from repairs, material costs, and the cost of time used to level up just 1 craft class.
d. Gathering costs: These cost gil too. We'll be nice and put 5-10k in costs assuming the classes are played correctly.
Summary: For costs, we'll assume for an individual who leveled one battle class, they had a perfect run to get their DL gear, their relic, and only repaired 5 times (their DL gear) at 50 at that time with a repair bill each time of 5000. That's 225,000 gil drained on an individual basis. If they leveled 1 crafter and 1 gatherer after, that's 240,000 gil individually. If 200 people deal with this, that's 48,000,000 gil gone forever for every 200 people that we need to counter.
long post is long, will do 4. Earnings, on next post.
Notes: Dark Matter was not added because people would play it off as a means to help repairs. However, at level 50, G5DM costs 350gil a piece. 1 piece repairs 1 piece of armor. That’s 4200 gil for a fully geared player. That cuts down on potential profit. If you went the seals route, Your looking at time costs and weapon repairs costs (assuming to FATEd naked) to get 15000 seals in order to afford to have your 1 crafter repair the gear for your 50s Endgame class.
