People seem to fail to understand the context behind what Yoshida actually means with that statement. He meant taking breaks because unlike most other MMOs, FFXIV doesn't have predatory grindy systems to keep players from turning the game into a job rather than a hobby. Which is a common practice negative aspect with many endgame systems.

In FFXIV, you have achievable endgame goals that don't necessarily require you to be glued on 24/7 to progress, which is also why they encourage other players to take their time. It's probably why this game manages to have healthy number of subs because of its approachability and game design. It clearly has worked considering how popular this game has become.

However I'm not foolish enough to think it's gotten so because of just that. It's just one of big factors for it's success.

You basically just described the opposite side of what youre talking about. I've seen PLENTY of negative threads where folks say things like "here's comes the critism police/whiteknights". And the moment someone says they like something they don't it's dogpile season. I remember when folks were saying they like healing currently n folks jumped on em and said they had crap standards n such. Stop acting like this is one sided cause it's not.

"Finally some positivity, everyone is so negative" isn't passive aggressive at all. Some folks just genuinely like to see some positivity when the boards are full of the opposite. Just saying

This game has many other contents currently running - New Ultiamte, New PvP rewards, New Raid tier, New fishes to catch.

You may not like any of these contents, but you cannot deny that there IS content.

I have a job, and I am slowly trying to clear the raid tier. I barely have time to do anything else on weekly things.

If I wouldn't do raiding, I would probably do something else that is on plan for me, but it is true that I am a late joiner. So I am not sure how many ARR relics and Eureka gear you have, I still miss most and I still miss 2 HW relic and a few ShB. But plan to get them all.

I can understand that if you have done all of these, or you don't like some of the mentioned content, then you will be bored.

But hey, Overwatch 2 just came out, good luck entering with the 20K queue and disconnects from the server :P

As a legacy player I’m still recovering from being told that the game isn’t ten years old from 5 pages ago

But on the subject of legacy since there isn’t many of us left. Firstly let me just put this out here first LEGACY WAS ABSOLUTE WHITE HOT GARBAGE. Now that that is out of the way, I can at least appreciate the game attempted to innovate during that time, it was all the wrong innovations but for all its faults at least it felt somewhat different, the last time modern 14 got a new system was probably when they gave us logos in eureka which was like 4 years ago. At the age 14 is now and for how many years I’ve been playing it I’d rather they take a big risk and aim for a revitalisation of the game over 5 more copycat expansions with random slightly connected stories that could each be a stand alone FF game then go into maintenance mode in 2030 but that opinion could be totally biased by the fact I’ve been playing for so long

Not on the official forums. Many of us don't bother with the public outings of the community and I myself am not even using my original account.

And speak for yourself. Legacy was lacking and boring at times but speaking for my circle of ex XIV players its highs in gameplay were far better than Endwalker.

So you're saying that the ones who praise the devs, the ones who love Endwalker and the ones who say this game is great aren't representative of anything either? By that logic the FF14 subreddit, all the comments on twitter, youtube and twitch and the forums shouldn't be taken seriously because they're not representative of anything.

There aren't "millions" on either side, but the reception for EW in general has been overwhelmingly positive. Polls consistently place it as the 2nd favorite expansion (with ShB being #1), and I always find it amusing how people claim this forum is the "only" place on the internet people can be negative about the game, and how there are apparently all of these other myriad sites and fanpages out there that spout endless praise and push any criticism away...and yet somehow, those few here being endlessly negative about the game must magically be the majority? That takes some impressive mental gymnastics.

Case in point, EW not only started with the highest playerbase ever, but even its late-patch "troughs" still retained the highest active playerbase compared to similar "troughs" in past expansions. The simple reality is that EW is viewed in general by the playerbase as a huge success. It's okay for individuals to not like it, but to act as if that opinion somehow represents everyone is deeply flawed.

If you played in ARR you’d know ARR pulled it back from the brink but it was the fact that HW was actually memorable that propelled the game forward, if HW was just a little bit more ARR then the game would have faded away years ago

Thats true, but saying that HW solely carried FFXIV is disingenuous at best. The game kept getting better per expansion, it wasnt just HW being good. Take off the nostalgia goggles, HW isnt all thats cracked up to be (on its own at least)

I personally agree- it was a fun, albeit short-lived fun, little detour from normal game play but ultimately - lackluster. Once you finish the grind & get the very few rewards worth obtaining - there is not really much left in islands to care about.

I also think the resources would have been much better utilized adding more housing, which people have been begging for for ages rather islands.

I browse Reddit, Im nowhere near as stupid as to JOIN it. Facebook, Insta all that media? I dont have ANY of it. Hell I dont even have a TV anymore, and my life is SO much more peaceful. Pro tip, its called the idiot box for good reason.

ANYONE who for one moment takes any of social media as any kind of metric as far as the game is concerned? Nope.

I have played on three separate servers, ( four if you count an emergency alt on an OS server in case OCE has hiccups ) , and NOWHERE except here have I heard a fiftieth of the negative attitudes seen here. The idea that EW was 'catastrophic" is downright hyperbole, everywhere I see happy busy players, sprouts everywhere..both sprouts and returners TBH, so no, the game isnt in a state people here seem to believe it is.

Endwalker HAS been praised universally, and barring a few areas that, admittedly, do need improvement ( yes, follow quests I am looking at YOU, so stop hiding up the back ) has been an incredible experience.

Island sanctuary? i am taking my time and slowly adding stuff, an hour there an hour there, I LITERALLY see no reason to do it all at warp ten..whats the rush?

If you want to love the expansion, that's on you. No skin off my bones. Just let others have the room to dislike it because a lot of the criticism i see is also valid, especially when it comes to housing being too limited and jobs being gutted to suit an audience that doesnt want to put in effort to learn a rotation. I liked Endwalker from a story perspective, but I didn't like the repetitiveness of gameplay that has been going on at least since Heavensward (maybe arguably since ARR, but it was a lot more diverse back then).

I don't understand why they don't want to experiment and try new things at least up until recently anyway, maybe they understood the situation now hopefully?

They do experiment and try new things, have done since Heavensward with Diadem and Deep Dungeon, they just don't really mess with the core of MSQ, dungeons, trials, and raids.
Given how well some of their experiments have gone over, it's probably for the best that their experiments with new things are mostly side content.

Can you imagine if instead of being side content, they saved it up and made it the focus of Stormblood. Every main area was like the original Diadem with all the dungeons being deep dungeons.

There's also a quest where you turn into a frog - this is on top of the already-existing variety mini games too like the carriage stuff and darts shooting.
Now is this the most terribly engaging content in the world? Probably not, but the devs still try to add some degree of variety to the MSQ with each expansion.

I mean I don’t think companion chat missions really compare to something like eureka

14 has always innovated in the side content and the side content is getting sidelined further and further every expansion

I think the timing of the introduction to the new mechanics could be better.

Since the RP duties were introduced in 4.3, we got a chance to get used to them over several months and give some feedback for adjustments so when they were part of the 5.0 MSQ they seemed a more natural part of the MSQ flow.

Compare that to the escort/tailing quests. They were dumped on us in a mass that was experienced over 1-2 weeks and rather disruptive to the flow of the MSQ because they were new to us. They did go back and change how the escort duties worked after the fact in response to player feedback but that doesn't change the memory of how annoying they were during what was the most important part of the MSQ story arc. If they had introduced them post 5.0 MSQ instead, they would have already corrected the complaints players had and we would have found them a more normal activity for the 6.0 MSQ.

Timing is something you normally can't plan for, there's only so much you can control. It's either do or you don't. Yeah it was annoying at the beginning but they fixed it to be less of a hassle and that's all I'm gonna care about rather than stick to the past and be like "yeah it shouldn't have happen". It's pointless

I've enjoyed the expansion, honestly. New raids have all been fun, savage and the 24-player raid. Aside from Endsinger Extreme, the new trials have been fun. There are some interesting sounding 4 player dungeons coming up soon. I had fun with Island Sanctuary, and hope more gets added as I'm just in a cowrie farming position now. The OP just sounds like someone salty that there isn't instance housing for everyone - something I hope they never add by the way. I like the neighborhoods of houses, wandering around and bumping into other residents and talking to them.

It sucks that some FCs or wealthy players have monopolized wards for ??? reason. Make a post about doing something about that and you'd have my support.

We don't get paid to design the game, coming up with solutions to problems in the game is not on us.

Our responsibility is to voice our concerns, good or bad, and the dev team takes them and does what they will with them.

If another person claims the critics of EW are all just haters and throwing insults than i can put up that message. That is what it contributes :)
