Wdym them taking it the wrong way?
Just because someone reports you doesn't mean that the GM is going to penalize you. I couldn't care less if someone's inflated ego got offended.
When you have people deliberately ruining your fun and gameplay, it's in your right to call them out and even kick them if they won't start playing.
Tell that to the streaming industry.
Now to topic -- just reading through the first couple of pages of this thread all I can gather is the FF14 community as a whole is toxic and talk in itself echochamber. Someone from WoW play oUr GaMe OH HELL NOOOO.
Open your mind, welcome people who want to join FF14 regardless if they play WoW today or another game. And stop being so damn toxic towards people that plays a certain Blizzard game. Don't attack them if they want to suggest features they love from wow, why is it so bad wanting to improve FF? Don't go all white knight like some of you did with Scott Zone.
I also see a lot of misconception thinking Asmon is a sexist, homofob, bigot etc - This is false. His fanbase contain of teenagers (act like it at least) that is bit toxic. Asmon/Zack is not.
Now I understand some of you are going to inturpt this as a defence for the guy, I'm not a huge fan of him but I used to be but being hateful to someone who come from WoW, that just stupid and childish. Get out of your bubble and echochamber.
Honestly there are a lot of things WoW got so right that FFXIV fumbled on (and vice verse, of course). Things like the transmog tab, more unique rewards for higher content, and race diversity. I wouldn't say look at the WoW forums right now, they're kind of a clown show right now, but people regularly bring up features from other MMOS (including FFXIV) with out nearly the amount of hostility you'd get here.
Type in youtube the words "Asmongold rage" and see how many seperate videos pop up.
People don't watch his streams for a Mr. Rogers experience.
Honestly who cares like good for him i guess but he is human to last i checked hes allowed to do what he wants and play what he wants to play and after watching his fallow up to his tweet on YouTube hes going in to it with A bad attitude so i dont see him likeing it much if at all if does cool if he doesn't all well
Always was to be honest. Especially if you brought up you play on the "wrong" faction.
Now I would love get the transmog in FF, our glamour system is shit in comparison. I like their achivement system much more as well, it easier to navigate to track stuff with and many stuff is account wide.
Terms of endgame, I'm more of a collector in WoW, I don't do M+. But I get how some people wanting that sort of content (i guess we have ultimate but not same level) and more bosses per raid tier.
Side note: These forums are pretty much a clown show as it is now. Between the amount of trolls lately posting in every thread to the constant gatekeeping in lore threads. Straight up clownery 24/7.
Its not an overreaction to people enjoying the game -- stop with that. Its basically the meme of people flipping out when someone criticizes the game because of X, Y, Z. We saw this with a streamer in the past (Scottzone) who criticized Eden. Its fine to enjoy the game and love it: the GCBTW comes out when people take the fanatic route and avidly have to defend the game and claim all criticism as invalid.
Now -- suddenly, you have the largest MMO streamer on the platform coming to try out your game. A streamer whose persona is typically loudmouth, no bullshit, end-game focused in MMOs. A streamer who has an avid dislike towards RM cash shops. A streamer who has a rabid fanbase that is considered toxic and will follow him around in game.
We have the makings here for a beautiful powder keg.
tl;dr
Who cares?
I just want to elaborate on this a little bit more. I genuinely think this could be really good for the game. This game needs someone whose blunt af and points out the problems with the game and doesn’t get hurt by every little comment this community loves to send. It’s grown too soft with too many sensitive people who can’t handle criticism or enable bad play. This could be the change the game needs.
Is everyone here thinking about the ramifications if the actual verdict from the guy is "I tried it. It sucked. Don't bother to play this game"?
It always makes me laugh when I read the typical "WhO cArEs!!" response. It only makes you look stupid because you're trying to pretend that the size of his viewers isn't significant. Yet, SE welcomes him with open arms!! So obviously they care rofl!
Indeed, yet many here and online walk around proud "oh we're so nice!" No, we're as toxic as any other community out there. Look yourselves in the mirror.
many people including Square Enix as a company, I'm pretty sure they want more players and more money.
You caring enough to comment so you do to then?
This isn't going to convince anyone who is already enjoying the game to stop playing. It's also not going to hold as much weight as the friends of potential players who are saying that FFXIV is great. It would only have impact on Asmon's fans.
This whole Asmon thing isn't really about FFXIV booming. It's about how WoW has hit such a low point that many die-hard fans for the first time are truly looking for a different mmorpg to play in the long-term. And many have found exactly that. He's a die-hard WoW fan who has repeatedly dismissed FFXIV as a weeb game, but even he is curious now.
It doesn't even matter if Asmon quits FFXIV in a matter of minutes. It's the fact that he's even going to try to play shows how little faith he has in Blizzard when it comes to WoW. If he still thought WoW was in a good state and/or if he trusted Blizzard would listen to feedback to improve the game he wouldn't even think about trying FFXIV. This is why it's a big deal. This entire situation is essentially commentary on how WoW is failing to keep its playerbase happy.
FFXIV will continue to do its thing with or without Asmon. However many WoW content creators have high praise for FFXIV while also holding little for the current state of WoW. Blizzard should be very worried.
This. Look - Square will benefit by Blizzard come back to bring back a good MMORPG. Competition is a good thing. People seem to forget this.
Wherever Asmon decide to play this or quit after 2 days doesn't matter but i'm pretty disappointed seeing how toxic and unwelcome this community has/is becoming.
Yeah i'm not so sure about that. Just look at this forum and reddit. While I get it don't reflect everyone but if I was new to this game and had not been playing it for 8 years I'd be pretty worried - especially when reading stories like Scottzone and Lazypeon (though i pretty much dislike the latter, but that don't mean he deserve DT and the such)
And those don't necessarily reflect the overall community, much like us on the forums and those on reddit do not. You can keep bringing up some incidents that gained a lot of attention but that doesn't automatically mean the community as a whole is terrible. It just means that there's people with major issues in every community on the internet, gaming or otherwise.
This game is already big without him, its been kicking and lighting a fire under WoW and the MMORPG scene long before Asmond decided to try it.
There are tons of other WoW streamers who have already been playing this game, So AsmondGold coming in really is nothing special. He's a big streamer...neat....he's still nothing special. What humors me the most about all of this, is the amount of worship surrounding this guy, and that people treat this like its such a big deal.
Even Asmond is like "Guys its just a Game"
It is often considered the peak of WoW. It featured one of the most loved villains of the franchise (the Lich King/Arthas), and had one of the best raids (Ulduar). It did have more content than ShB, sadly.
I just remember it also being when WoW boasted it's highest sub count, not unlike ShB. Here's with all fingers crossed and a lucky rabbits paw that SE doesn't drop a Cata on us.
Hah yeah, would be quite hilarious if we saw 7.0 being another Cata.
But I second that TBC/Wrath was probably best expansions in WoW history, Legion was good but it was like what 4 expansions later?
This alone should say more about his fanbase or white knighty FF fanboys in his twitter feed.
No one said the game isn't big. And I don't see SE welcoming other WoW streamers. Just because people like him, doesn't mean they worship him. All I see is some here are jealous of him and are trying convince themselves and others that he's nothing special.
Why does SE need to welcome WoW streamers? Not like they are any more Special then a Wildstar or ESO player.
And people more then like Asmond, the fact you think people are 'trying convince themselves and others that he's nothing special.' tells me you think he is.
And he's not...he's a guy that plays games and talks about things like....I dont even know how many other people.
He's a dude that streams and enjoys playing video games, what a big deal. Besides, he himself has already asked to pretty much be left to enjoy the game without any drama or unpleasantries; "It's just a game"
People don't need to convince themselves of anything, especially whether he is or isn't anything special. People be out here acting as if it's the apocalypse, or as if a singularity is going to occur because he's decided to try out a video game.
I don't really relate to Asmongold, his viewers or his streaming content. The fact that he is trying FFXIV coming from WoW I am indifferent to. I hope he gives the game a fair shot, with a clear mind and not to critique the game for viewers rating, but evaluates it for what it is to many, a great video game to add to one's collection. At the same time I hope the FFXIV players gives Asmongold a fair shot as well before flying off the deep end and judging him before he's even started. Jealousy doesn't even come into play.
Completely unrelated but I swear I hear almost equal levels of circlejerking about how not great this community is from people within the community as the types who spam it under every post at this point. Place on the internet isn't as nice as it seems is apparently a huge deal to people on both sides of this argument I do think people should have more self awareness about how we aren't that much better than any other game but Christ I'm sick to death of GCBTW unironically and ironically
