Ah, yes, that makes sense. "That game" / "this game" or the subtlety of English. Thanks for the input!

We just had a new expansion and now we are getting a ton of things that a lot of us are very happy about. New housing being the first. I, for one, will not be going anywhere and still have tons to do before even beginning to get bored. It's kind of funny, I always thought I had the attention span of a fruit fly but this forum keeps proving me wrong on that count.
Yeah, we really aren't lacking in actual updates, it's just that for those that are more invested into raw progression, there isn't much to do.
(What are you maniacs at SE gonna do for SMN, SCH, MCH, and WHM....? I know others need tweaks but some jobs are is sour shape while others are doing amazing now...)

So what is Fell Cleave or Inner Release going to replace anyway...?)
- Shake It Off will be changed into casting barrier to all party members corresponding with the WAR's current HP. Buffs like Thrill of War and Inner Release, and so on that are in effect will be gone and in return the effect provided by the new Shake it Off will increase by 4% (Note: This may read the buffs provided from Thrill of War and so on will be sacrificed to increase Shake It Off by 4% when casted on party members)

Imho getting completely rid of the chests from mob kills in the revamp was a mistake, I'd say that 2.0 diadem was a missed opportunity in some parts considering they did make some improvents, but I suppose reception of both 1.0 and 2.0 is weighting heavy on the shoulders of Eureka and I'm not so sure if it even has a change
First off, people keep saying Ultimate and the new PVP mode are coming in patch 4.1 itself when listing content, they are not, so take those off your lists. They are 4.11 and 4.15 respectively. The trailer makes it seem like they're coming on the 10th with everything else, and we didn't know they wouldn't be until now and that is what I personally am upset about. I'd be less upset if they didn't let us think we'd be getting those 2 things along with everything else, but then at the last second were like "lol jk."
I get that sometimes stuff gets delayed for fine tuning, but if that's the case don't falsely advertise contents NOT coming on the 10th in the trailer for the patch, it's kind of annoying and made me heavily disappointed. I do appreciate the other things, some nice QoL stuff. The dungeon is forgettable, don't care either way. I don't really do dungeons. A lot of people don't. And the 24man and Shinryu are, to me, merely catch-up content for those behind in Omega Savage. I have no problem with that, but I am an active raider and have no use for these other than for dog farm on Shinryu and potential glamour from the 24man. Please don't scream "ELITIST" at me because of this. You'll get ignored and waste time doing so. I get that to some those are exciting but they aren't to me, is that WRONG for me to feel that way? I'm sure I'll have a million people tell me so, judging by how this thread is going...ugh.
I get sick of people yelling/belittling/whatever towards people for *not* being perfectly content with EVERY patch and it's content. Everyone enjoys the game for their own reasons. If you are excited for this patch and it's content, great for you, it's good that you are. But not everyone is going to be excited just like you and have as much right to be disappointed by the information we've gotten as you have the right to be excited by it. Stop telling people to stop "whining" just because it's not "content they wanted." It doesn't matter how much you enjoy housing or squadrons or anything at all, if it's not something I enjoyed before I won't be excited for it like you. GET OVER IT.
It's not that I'm upset and think that what we ARE getting isn't "real content", mind you, I was just the most excited for the two things we WON'T be getting as soon as we were led to believe. Let me and whoever the hell else wants to feel upset or disappointed feel that way, and the people who are excited feel free to feel the way you do as well. Anyone who's insulting you for being excited or putting down the contents you think look fun, just shrug it the hell off and be excited. That said, don't friggen tell people they're wrong for not being hyped about the same stuff you are. And people who aren't excited, there is no reason to be insulting, stop calling the game trash. If it's trash stop playing for a bit till you see something you do like.
Both sides need to chill out.
Yeah I was very sad to hear that. One of my buddies got me into PVP when I wasn't before, and was hyped to hop into a blind match when the servers went up but was sad when I read it wasn't till 4.15.
Unending Coil being pushed back, while disappointing, isn't *too* bad I guess since my group is still missing some bis pieces before we'd be ready to hit it anyway, but disappointing to realize it wasn't coming when we thought it was regardless. :<
The lily and confession system is often remarked as superfluous at best, too nuanced and RNG at worst. WHM lost the most to role pool of skills, but received nothing to fill the gaps in their moveset.
AST's and SCH's new gauge-based features, Minor Arcana and Aetherpact, while admittedly unnecessary for good performance, are reliable and can be utilized. Both also gained more through the new role system than they lost.
SCH's issues are totally different, and much of the trouble was repaired in the last round of healer buffs. AST is pretty much perfect (other than me not really being a fan of the gauge design, itself...)
I think I'm mainly disappointed because that PVP mode was so exciting to me. Like I never was terribly excited for Shinryu or the 24man, satisfied with my house in Goblet etc, but I been really into pvp lately. I try to find something to enjoy during luls and that was it. I think I wouldn't be as upset if they had said in the first 4.1 live letter that it was being delayed and not waited till just now to say so, yet was still included them in the trailer which only served to up my excitement. One of my friends then told me it wasn't happening on the 10th and I was really confused for awhile, because why would it be in the "4.1" trailer if it wasn't in 4.1, y'know? Then the official translations went up on the forums and I was really sad. :< Oh well...
Seems like it'll be a good patch to me. I mean, between 3.0 and 3.1 they had 6 months to develop, and between 4.0 and 4.1 they've only had 3 months. I think all things considered, the patch looks promising. It's still more content than one gets in a World of Warcraft patch, and they're nowhere near as consistent as FFXIV is.
I'm looking forward to it.
the only sad thing about 4.1 is that they had to delay the new pvp map, ultimate bahamut and eureka in my opinion. The patch might look atm not really extensive and sustainable, cause if we are realistic:
1. people will do msq (once), sidequests (hildibrand)(once), Kyojin beast tribe quests (dailies, til maxed rank or mount reward) and mnaago deliveries (probably also once per week, til maxed rank)
2. people will run once Return to ivalice, maybe twice cause they liked it and probably 10x til they get a specific item
3. people will do shinryu practices/kill til weapons/mount/craft item
4. people will level their squadrons to max and get the 3 emotes (only once as well and never touch again)
5. people will farm the new feature in canals til they get bored by it (or prices drop on rare items by amount on market)
Considering how fast you can finish some stuff and once you finish (max a rank or get all rewards you wanted) you are done with the content and you will never touch it again (til they add new stuff to it).
I am a bit unsure about patch 4.1, but that is cause the content is just not lasting enough.
Every QoL is nice and all, but once you saw it and enjoyed the new feature, it gets immediatly uninteresting and wont entertain you over time.
And I'd hate to be that guy. But Yoshi wants you take a break and play other games. He wants casual and midcore with variation of skill between the two.
If you are looking for this game to be the game you spend hours upon hours in and not much else. No patch will quench that thirst if the content is cherry picked by only what we like. There is a broad range of existing content, we either like it or we don't.
Eh, it's not a fair argument when content gets pushed back that people were looking forward to. They subscribed with the intent of thinking they would be able to play said content and now they won't. They do have a reason to be bummed out by it. Now I could understand your argument if SE didn't have content get pushed back or forgotten but that's not the case. This is content that is pushing back the Relic phase which is something that could occupy a lot of people's time but now that huge time investment is removed from this patch cycle.
they will never reach 2.1 again...
3 Dungeons
3 Extreme Primals
+ Ultima HM
+ Mog NM
24 Man Raid
Introducing of PvP
Introducing of Housing with 3 wards
Introducing of Treasure Maps
2 New Beast Tribes
and Hildibrand quest
Aesthetican, Party Finder, Roulettes and the Player Commendation System were also new in 2.1
My, my, my. I hope you understand that you're not the only person playing this game. I get that there are many players with all their jobs and squads 50+, but there are far more who don't, and this doesn't take into account new subs. It is unfortunate if you cannot take advantage of new content, but please don't go spouting off that it is going to be DOA because you feel your status is the majority of the playerbase. Keyword there is 'if'. You can wait to see what the patch brings on official release, but those who go in feeling like they will be disappointed are often given that result. Just a word of friendly advice.
Well, while it seems rather barren, I will wait and see how it plays out. I'll be honest, for me Glim Glams are the most important aspect of new patches and it looks rather disappointing in that regard.
Also I am happy they get over with the worst part of the MSQ early (read: the super awesome advenutes of Lyse) so future patch MSQ might get interesting again.
Honestly I don't see anything wrong with 4.1. Ivalice, Shinryu, Ultimate Bahamut, and Housing in Shirogane look pretty cool, but I'm still eye on Ivalice more than others.
I'll come right out and say it. Ya'll are reaching, and hard, if you think it's a fair comparison to say 4.1 having less content then 2.1 is some kind of mark that it's getting worse by each patch.
2.1 was filled to burst with content because in all likelyhood some, or even most, was stuff that did not make it into the game in time for release (meaning it might've very well been in development even prior to ARR's launch), and you can only add brand new functions to the game to a certain point, as the more you add, the more cluttered and confusing it becomes to the user, and the bigger the game grows the harder it becomes to perform basic tasks like bug testing and fixing.
No idea where you're getting the idea that developers are for some reason not allowed to re-evaluate their stance, atleast when it comes to MMO's, which are games arguably under constant development and changes. Sometimes in such a manner where it's impossible to maintain that one idealistic view the developers had at one point
It's not like they just instantly flipped around and implemented the demolition timer. It took them years, and alot of that time was with players pressuring them quite heavily to do something, anything, about the lack of housing plots.
Adding more wards isnt gonna solve anything in the long run, since for most servers each ward cant even support a sliver of the total population, especially considering FC Housing aswell. Retooling the system to instanced housing would be a immense ammount of work, highly liable to failure and/or bugs with the established houses. But what you CAN do to atleast get some positive effect going, is regularly remove the plots of people who no longer play, and put them back in the market. And it works as a incentive for players to stay subscribed. So it's a win-win for SE.
I have enough faith to believe that they saw a demolition timer as the most sensible option to keep some fluidity going on the plots, not horrificly overload their servers, and to appease the people crying for a solution to the housing shortage atleast untill the devs maybe manages to figure out a way to transition the housing into instanced, without a massive ammount of bugs and/or glitches (or players loosing items)
That some are still holding on to one single statement from 4 years ago only makes you seem as if you're trying to "get them" for doing something you disagree with. Instead of being a responsible consumer, and no longer supporting the product financially
It's going to be a brutal mad scramble and the salt will flow in to the forums that day. I am NOT looking forward to it, especially since I will be part of the mad scramble to get a house for my FC.
Eureka will probably come out with the new relic, 4.15 presumably.
What happened with a new relic quest line? I thought that was coming in 4.1, but saw no mention of it...
2.1 probably included things that coudn't make in to the game in time.
4.1 probably includes some QoL changes that coudn't make in to the expansion in time. It was going to include other things, like Eureka, that coudn't make in to the expansion in time, but in the end, there's even no time for that.
And yeah, honestly I don't want new functions, but I would like to have at least 2-3 primals per patch.
But they are not going forward with any plan to fix the system. 4.1 new ward same as old wards same system same issue. Just more time spent on it. Should just be a sticky on front page "We can't provide housing to all our player base, the end. Live with it." I would be strongly surprised and might even consider a resub if they actually provided an equal opportunity system to every player on every server. It would show that this team can admit they made a mistake and fix it and not blame 1.0 or accounting.
I vaguely recall that the first tier of the Crystal Tower raid was apparently supposed to be in ARR's release, but they had to delay it into 2.1 (which also got delayed because of it, I think).
And now I just remembered the incredibly pointless quests leading up to unlocking the raid itself... good lord, thank goodness SE has never done that again.
Are people really sore that we're only getting one new dungeon? I couldn't care less personally. Roulettes are definitely the least exciting part of the game for me. Hell gathering is more exciting.
Couldn't agree with your more Coatl.
To all who've skipped to the back page to hurl more inflammatory comments towards me, telling me to quit and such things, I'd like to you refer to my original post so that discourse might be renewed in this thread.
I'm fine with it, so long as they introduce content to compensate as they said they would. It appears that the new PvP mode and Eureka (what I think a lot of people were looking forward to, and is the content that would have undoubtedly covered the loss of 2 dungeons) aren't quite ready yet. Which is fine, I hope they take the time to polish those so it isn't Diadem 3.0 paired with an unpopular PvP mode that is also dead on arrival. But I can see where people are coming from, it does kinda suck. Up side, there's a TON of QoL changes that the game needed. Squadrons aren't really gonna be my thing, but I'll definitely give those dungeons a go just to see how smart their AI is. I'm looking forward to the 24 man the most though. Here's hoping the gear is nice for glamour.
Personally, I quite like to post threads that have little in the way of my own opinions outside of the topic of the thread so that I might see people's personal opinions first, untarnished by my own, before finally going back and posting my own feelings on the matter. I find that through doing this I am able to better get my points across on the subject. Often times people will post ideas that will resonate with me strongly, so that I might better articulate my own, or even ones in opposition that are worded so powerfully that I find myself agreeing with them.
Unfortunately all I walked away with this time is that World of Warcraft players are happy to get less than what we're getting, and that the community should be more like World of Warcraft players and just enjoy what they are given.
I just read the edit of the op's first post which runs down every piece of content in the game and says they all sucks / are irrelevant to people with a brain. So what do we want the game to be? Remove all casual content and put all resources into an increased amount of savage raid bosses?
A lot of people do actually like the casual and midcore content... hildibrand, alliance raid, primal ex, etc. I think you're setting an impossible standard by saying 99% of content is not good enough.
I don't know if anyone here has ever worked on a major entertainment product with millions of users but... can you imagine how hard it would be to create something that all kinds of people will love. It's a lot easier to tear down than it is to come up with a better idea.
Really, what we're actually dealing with is the two-fold issue of SE sticking to their guns on keeping with the fourteen week schedule, despite some of the planned content not yet being ready, and the heavy amount of dev time that has to go into further balancing jobs and completing a large backlog of QoL fixes.
Basically, a substancial chunk of 4.1 is intangible stuff that will help the game in the long run. It's needed, but for a player like you who *seems to me* to be focussed on raw combat progression and gear, I can absolutely see the dissapointment.
So, while there are mountains of side content and small things to work on, they don't build up your iLVL, so it's not priority. Am I on the nose?
Regarding the first half of your edited post, the purpose of odd-numbered patch content is to help people catch up so they can get ready for the current savage raid faster or the next even-numbered patch. It's also a good alternative to gear up alt jobs.
Don't expect odd-numbered patches to cater to midcore or hardcore players. It's made for casual players, who are the majority of the playerbase, so it's going to be relevant to a lot more people than non-casuals.
