I know I just click random names unless someone really left a good impression on me because I see little point in this system. Honestly, commendations are just silly and another thing for people to grind to get titles and items.

You did cleave my comment a bit to look as though I am in opposition to your other points, when I agree with them. The rest of my post gave freedom for people to try unorthodox methods of gameplay, but suggested that it should be filtered out as to not effect your standard for performance. As an aside, I would rather have a dps who was afk, than have someone spout "Worse Run Ever", since that statement is a reflection of the entire group experience rather than directed at any specific problem.
Ah I am sorry, I didn't mean to misrepresent you and must have misunderstood. I'm still pretty tired lol :P
Yeah I understand that there are those who would prefer a 'bad' DPS to a 'toxic' player and those the other way around. That's why a few pages back I suggested adding a playstyle option to the DF, so people can be matched up with like-minded individuals.
I'm of the opinion that a lot of this ugly attitude comes from the same eggheads who bring their Excel spreadsheets into the game and act as if everyone does the same thing. It's all right to expect each player to perform up to their ability to get through a dungeon. Where I draw the line is the moment some hothead thinks every dungeon should be cleared in 10 minutes (because he obviously has somewhere to be or else he wouldn't be playing an MMO), expects people to be in Raid-quality gear, and has a (clearly illegal) parser running 24/7. That OCD behavior can only suck the life out of a party.
pony farming is silly as well, but people still do it for the thrill of showing off on your new steed. commendation are the same, we all want the parade chocobo. if vanity item is not your cup of tea you better find another game, ff14 is at least 50% vanity-based. minions, glamour, housing, chocobo dyeing, mounts, achievement rewards, special events rewards, all vanity items, nothing useful there.
me i like vanity stuff, thats why i keep playing this game
I've had a couple of situations where there's just weird miscommunication regarding what happened:
1- Healing AK regular, I'm using Virus which I have macroed to let party know I've just virused a mob. I use it on the Dulahans since they are physical attackers and I'm WHM. Tank is moving ahead before mobs are finished off, and runs behind dullahan; so the BRD eho was with us accidentally face pulls it when they follow after finish trash. Tank is like "..." Because he sees the Virus message from the last Dullahan that was a couple pulls ago.
2- A1N, get selected for preys twice. Die because I don't get healed through it. Second time, die again because I don't get healed. No rez after this time. Tanked the floor until end of fight because unavoidable damage. -.-
I've encountered plenty of bad players in DF but very few bad attitudes. Heck, just yesterday I had a group wipe on the last boss of the Aery because the healer derped and forgot you have to keep Estinien healed. The tank pointed it out (politely) after we wiped, the healer apologized and said they just had a brainfart, and we went on to clear it easily on the next try. No one got angry or called the healer any names; in fact, everyone just said it was no big deal and that stuff happens sometimes.
I would've commended the entire rest of the party if I could for being so chill. Most of the people I run into in DF are like this, though.
I don't know where ppl get so many of these encounters that they feel the need to post this kind of stuff, I have never been vote kicked for explaining a strat, trying to help or just doing my job.
Kindda makes me think the toxic ppl are the ones who complain here but are not giving us the full story (as in making themselves look like little angels when they are the instigators) idk, maybe not but just from my experience its really not that bad. The only issues Ive ever had are ppl who purposely troll the pt but they are normally the ones kicked...oh wait a minute
Any game that has a random pug matcher will produce bad encounters with people from time to time, it's like going to a new school, maybe people won't like you or maybe they will, you will get over it and move on.
Play with FC mates, make your own groups, use PF.
A good tip is : don't talk, don't yell at people if they make a mistake ( this can instant kick you ) and don't tell people mechanics, let them wipe and learn themselves.
People don't logon to be told what to do or how to play, yet there is always someone in the group who loves to be better than everyone else.
Same here, met bad players enough in DF, very rarely toxic players. But it isn't unusual for people to exagerate a point to get it across or to get sympathy. With some peoples posts you would think that 99% of DF parties consist of toxic players. Where, in my experience it is more like less than 1% overall.
But to quote: If you meet a jerk in the mornin, you met a jerk. If you meet jerks all day, you're the jerk.
Just today I had 6(?!) A4 groups that had to vote abandon due to dps not sharing tethers, not killing dolls, eating tank splash damage. It'd be nice if I could completely ignore mechanics too but as a tank/healer I don't have that luxury nor the patience to deal with people who don't even take the time to read the party chat where I repeatedly emphasize the mechanics of the fight. After 22 clears I finally got my last shaft for my healer body after losing it to said dps on the 21 runs prior. And yes, I counted because it started getting ridiculous after the 3rd vote abandon.
Honestly, I must just be really lucky.
My DF experience has not been full of the horror stories that people like to tell on the forums.
It's basically, enter dungeon. I say hi. they say hi. I ask for mechanic explanations if it is my first time. i get mechanic explanations before the boss. we clear the dungeon, in a decent(to me) amount of time.
I don't pull whole rooms at a time, but I don't lollygag inbetween pulls either. i don't like speed runs, but I don't like taking forever either, so as soon as the last mob dies, I'm off to the next one unless someone speaks up.
This attitude is cyclic, it's higher on weekends and in the evenings. Noting, this corresponds well to when kids are out of school...
And adults out of work. So... Ummm... Yeah... :X
Anyways, I really don't see any of this toxic attitude people are describing. I do see people instaleaving when something doesn't work out, but that's about it. Usually talking is limited to "Hi" at the start and "gg" at the end.
One of the bigger problems is the fact that you rather remember a bad run than you remember a good run without any problems. A good run is over in no time while awful runs drag on forever, mostly having unneccessary discussions and people you'll never forget about due to their really bad behaviour.
I'd say I've had way more good experiences in DF, but sadly, I remember every run in which I felt uncomfortable.
There are lots of nice players out there, willing to help and friendly. But it is how it is: Salty and unfriendly people are louder than everyone else, so you will always notice them...
NA Server.
I have never encountered any players behaving badly. So either I am extremely lucky or something else is afoot hehe
But when I do meet jerk players, like when I played WOW, I simply wouldnt let them get to me, and I tried to lighten the mood, and it usually worked :)
This sounds like people. It sucks, but having grown up around some very similar people outside of video games you kind of learn when to smile and bite your tongue. Don't escalate it. You'll be away from them soon enough.
Same thing in retail. We had everything from guys who'd follow women around to women who'd scream at employees for not having the right flavor of ice cream.
Didn't read the whole thread.
I used to quit my groups over this a lot. To the point where i figured it would be better for me to just play the hand i am delt. Just assume you get a bad group and learn to deal with the bull.
I've been around since 1.0 and I have noticed a shift in the way people play (attitude wise) during that time - I feel that a majority of the players in this game are nice people - but there only has to be that handful that makes everything very hard on the rest of the players. Personally, I feel that DF is like money - a necessary evil. It's a very toxic place where there is really no punishment for being a bad player, and I don't mean bad as in doesn't know what to do - especially when it's a players first time. I mean bad as in rude, disrespectful, cussing etc. Players have no way to block people like that, no blacklist, no way to make sure you never have to party with them again - Yet the way the game is set up players have to use it at some point.
I have more good experiences in DF than bad - or at least decent to the point I can't complain. But the bad seem to stick with people more, so it seems like the DF is more toxic than it is. I have had good experiences, and bad.
Yesterday seemed a mess in A4 - no matter what group I got people were all over the place, or people weren't doing what they should do. Had this one DPS who was just being rude and ended up telling us all the "F Off" and this was after I had to explain the whole get the adds who's covering A B C - Because I said I had B and he and another DPS kept fighting B with me and letting the A and C adds just run everywhere and kill healers whent he DPS covering A was quarantined.
I also had a shouting match going on in A4 between a DPS and a SMN because the SMN wouldn't raise. At first the SMN was saying he didn't have raise, I think we all thought he was joking but it got to name calling between them and became very clear the lvl 60 SMN did not know he could raise people after he told him to show him where he had raise - thinking he did not and was right. So I politely told him, that it was called Resurrection and he received it at lvl 22, and that he should really keep it on himself because they were considered back up raisers in some ways. All the sudden he just left the party after realizing this - I think he was embarrassed. >.<
But at the same time we have good runs - went into hard mode and the tank was new. My friend and I were the healer and SMN and there was another SMN. I told the new tank just have fun with it and if they have any questions just ask, that it wasn't a big deal and just be comfortable. I don't know if the other SMN just had to leave or didn't like the speed we were going - which I thought was fast because two SMN's just melt stuff. But all the sudden right after the first boss the other SMN just leaves for no reason - but they didn't say anything the whole run anyway. WE ended up getting a really nice bard and finished up the run super fast with no death and just telling the other tank basics they asked for and then all Congratulated them on being a good tank and the first time win! It was a super nice run~!
But over all - I have seen a drop in this community kindness wise - but I still don't think that it's awful. Sometimes I get nothing but blah parties all day and I question my sanity, lol. Other days I feel I am very lucky because I have nice parties or meet very great people. Like yesterday we went into Dusk Vigil and my queue popped - I was with two friends and says 'sorry gimmie just a sec' because my washer was done and had to put the stuff int he dryer. So they all started mandervilling - the tank that we didn't know declared this the best party ever and then we jetted though the dungeon super fast, mandervilling for every boss. I loved it and it was great fun! I love when people have fun and play for the enjoyment - not to force people to conform to their rules or had a bad attitude! :)
By the way we ended up killing the last boss on the grounds that he would not manderville with us. XD
You're right and thank you for further proving my point.
The duty finder itself is a brilliant idea by the game. Well it is there for everyone like us who may be new or experienced with the game to use.. For this case, if 3 out of 4 people in the group voted to dismiss me, there's clearly something wrong with how I run the dungeon. Not to forget you progress from the simplest dungeon like Satasha, it is expected that you should at least get to practice and learn how to play your role better as you progress. Just start with a simple greetings before the run starts, do your best at your role, and clear. Talk only if you really need to.
I think a lot of it would be the players who came over from WoW.
Not that they are necessarily bad people or all WoW players are like that, but this kinda thing was just accepted/standard in that community. Even the GM's and mods would engage in discussions on forums about 'pro's and noobs, BIS, L2P etc.. ' and nothing was ever done to discourage this kinda behaviour/attitude.
You get them in all MMO's, but FF14 got a lot of good word as a serious alternative so a lot of people came over.
