Can't get items you didn't do the seasonal quest for. And while the Salvager makes for an easy answer, why bother with seasonal events then? Just wait til the gear is dumped there and get it later! Great idea!

Also, it needs to be asked: where was all this rage when the Halloween/Valentine's/etc. gear went to the cash shop? Or is THIS gear somehow special? (Let's also skip the "emote only" rebuttal. You had to do the event for the new Yukatas too).

They don't care because they know the game is 10 years old and has had it's run. To be honest, the legion expansion announcement surprised me. That may mean that Blizzard doesn't have another title close enough to keep fans happy. Certainly they lost "Titan" to Bungie and it sounded like they were banking on that.

Square isn't doing what blizzard does with their cash shop and the game is a new title, not one on the way out. .

Ever since the game came out there has only been one expensive mount in the cash shop, so i dont think game is going down a "slippery slope" with cash shop.

Oh I bought my yukata with 3 dollars worth of quarters i found on the ground on my way home today, and im flipping happy.

Just poor ppl crying cause they can't afford dollar store items. The self entitlement in this thread is disgusting.

Except the post I had quoted implied, intended or not, that you were equating the cash shop to their loss of subs, I never said WoD was good, i've been adamantly criticizing it since the launch event came up. WoD was horrendous for the exact reasons you stated and more. What would you prefer though? a simple $2 for the emote, or no one EVER be able to get it again AT ALL? if those were the only two options, so don't answer with the "I'd rather it just in game" you have to choose between 2 bucks or never again. Personally, I'd choose the 2 bucks.

Also, I agree that the cash shop isn't "a good thing for players", I have no delusion there, it is entirely "for profit" only, but I don't think it's as huge of a problem as people make it out to be, personally.

The title being "ten years old" means nothing. If WoW was still set in vanilla, then the game would be ten years old.

Eight months ago over 10 million players were subbed to WoW and I'm pretty sure most new titles would love to have those numbers. Millions of people wanted to play an MMO that was hyped to be created with all the passion and innovation that Blizzard was known for pre-Cata. Unfortunately, this was not the case. At all. Half the player base didn't leave because the franchise is ten years old. They left because the expansion is shallow and cheap.

Being an old title means nothing to how well a game is developed. And new titles fail all the time.

The announcement of Legion wasn't a huge surprise to me since Blizzard has been talking yearly expansions for some time now. I expect it to be nothing more than a WoD II.

As far as SE not doing what Blizzard is doing with their cash shop, I'm not so sure what selling an event reward without having the event in game is. It doesn't sit well with me at all.

Bought bomb dance, love dance emotes, now I can do maderville and bomb dance mid fight to mess with fc mates. I also can pretend to be Dancer until the job comes out.

It surprised me as they should be putting their efforts at their next generation offering. Of course, all legion is likely to be is the bits that should have been in WoD at launch.

Especially since they added the gifting feature, I gifted my wife Sleipner that very day. Don't ruin the surprise, but I am going to be gifting her with the bomb dance too. And maybe some yukatas as well.

That's your preference, SE sees the models they already made and went heck why not sell them instead of spend time making new models just for the cash store. There are a few new models in the cash store, but the store is mainly a way to reuse models. (they also give new models for seasonal events)

Nothing wrong with that. Just saying people should be happy there's a way to get this stuff at all.

It's not even expensive. People always say that 'oh I already pay a monthly fee" but that's only a fee to access the game servers...has nothing to do with optional stuff and it doesn't entitle you to everything that SE makes for the game.

You wouldn't have to re-do old event quests. The items would be available on the event vendor for a small amount of gil, like SE has already done in the past.

As consumers, we have every right to speak up when a business we want to support does something we don't agree with. We do not have to remain silent. Business do not have some innate "right" to profit.

Your #3 contradicts itself, by the way. And your #4 is a complete straw man - no one is asking for SE to repeat old events, just that they do what they've already done in the past: put old items on the new event vendor for gil.

Uh. Clearly by the number of people upset, they have hurt people.

I really do not care about the cash shop as long as it does not start impacting things outside of vanity items. When WoW introduced level 90 boosts to their cash shop it created a phenomenon known as "boosters" which were people who simply bought their way to 90 and then attempted to waltz into endgame content with awful gear and no idea how to play their character. It was terrible.

As long as they keep the cash shop to fun stuff only and do not put anything in there that can damage the quality of the game or the in-game economy I say it's perfectly fine.

Honestly, if people want to complain about microtransactions I think a better target would be their model for extra retainers, because after a certain point you are practically REQUIRED to buy retainers as a crafter. All of the stuff in the cash shop is just fun stuff that you don't really NEED.

Also as other people have said the gifting feature is really nice.

SE made this game to make money. Timed event items being exclusive to those events helps them make money by incentivizing people to play subs during those events, and lets players feel like special snowflakes compared to later players. Giving players an opportunity to pay for these items with real money gets SE more money while not overly upsetting the people who want to feel like special snowflakes, and also preserves some of the incentive to entice people to sub during the events.

So bottom line is, SE makes money both from incentivizing subs during the events and selling stuff after the events, while a significant portion of the player base who maintains consistent subs will be satisfied and get the special snowflake feeling. If they change the policy they are going to lose money both on subs and item sales, and piss off possibly more people than if they don't change it.

TLDR: SE isn't going to change it.

I don't think "item bloat" is an issue. Already stated my solutions:

1. Unlock all event items account-wide. If you did the event on one character, let the player purchase said items on the Calamity Salvager on any character thereafter.
2. Go back to the old system of leaving old items for sale for gil on the event vendor.

SOOOO many people forget that the success of the Cash Shop is what helped fund the new server. And once the server is done and ready they'll probably start being able to upgrade other equipment. It's plain to see SE has left Yoshi and the XIV Team to fend for themselves financially what with how limited everything has been. So I have no dilemma towards such unnecessary fluff being on the shop. Especially that I know the proceeds are actually going to helping better the game.

That said, some people are saying that though. I personally don't care either way. I do like the idea of account wide unlocks idea and I enjoyed having the 1.0 stuff available for the early events. So I'd be being hypocritical if I cared about old stuff being on the vendor. Veteran rewards are the bonuses for playing the game, which anyone can get as long as they pay the sub (Hint you're paying for the game not for the ability to do 1 time seasonal events). It's not a "bonus" in any way shape or form, it's content that you can't even attempt to do

Welcome to video games, nothing is ever mandatory and anything is subjectively useless. The point is, players at one point in time got it for free, now there is no free way to obtain it. I'm sorry you seem mad, do you have a time machine so I can go back in time and tell myself about FFXIV? Because otherwise, if I want stuff that was at one point free, that at one point other players got for free, yes I have to pay extra for it. I didn't have the opportunity to get it for free unlike other players and now I've got to pay for it, this is not the way a cash shop should be used, especially not in a subscription MMO.

Plus, you guys don't even address people with alts, which this game allows 8 per server. Why are you punishing people with old accounts, ie those same people who "Earned it because they were subbed for long enough", because they didn't consider making an alt at the time?

There is literally nothing wrong with them adding old event items to the game for gil during that seasonal event.

It's funny that some people bring up "experience." So, if that's the case, I don't have to watch any videos before attempting a raid boss, because experience is what this game's about.

I'm going to go buy my $2 Bomb Dance now.

Either or, really. Could add the old emotes (like the bomb dance, or whatever else) onto the rewards of the new event quest(s). Or turn it into a consumable unlock that you can purchase from the event vendor/calamity salvager. Both would work.

Because the seasonal quests have their own story behind them. I don't remember the quest all too well, but I think the /bombdance had its own story (and bringing back that particular quest would exclude those who have already done it, if we use the Lightning, Shantotto and DQX events as an example. Players who already did the quest could still do the FATE's, they just couldn't do the quest).

Personally, I'm fine with SE doing it this way, as it means they have to make new gear (and a story) for every event, since it would cause issues if they made an item you can buy 'free to get' at a certain point in the year.

Like it or not, that money went to funding the European data-centre. It was a necessary "evil" and it's making a specific group of players happier.

During the EU Fanfest Yoshi talked in about how what's made from the cash shop he puts back into the community, and one of the highlights was helping establish a new EU side server. Whether you choose to deny it and be cynical, thinking everyone is a fork-tongued devil, then that's on you.

XIV clearly isn't running with all the greatest strength. Do you honestly think that SE would so heartily invest in a game that had already once flopped so hard that public apologies had to be made? Considering their constant struggle with storage size despite the constant cries for improvements, they aren't given just all this money. Yoshi fought to keep this game going, but that doesn't mean he has 100% support. Something else has to be done to help support and improve the game.

If you really want to prevent SE from rehashing new gear and quests for the event, you gotta make sure they know it's not cool, no need to make the newer players have to pay actual money for cash shop stuff that older players got for free.

Is the old gear on the cash shop not the worst thing in the world? No, but just putting it in game for gil is much better.

Plus I'm not necessarily sure that money went to the European data-centre :P For all we know it went to a nice lunch for Yoshi-P and co.

Additional note, why is the immediate response for SE to put older items on the cash shop? It seems like they're trying to make a bit of a cash grab at the new players who'd want everything the older players already have. It'd be more appreciated if the cash shop items were nonsensical things, such as a resuable item that makes you turn into a spriggan like this years easter event or "special" versions of what we've already got, such as a "gilded Manacutter" to match the gilded Magitek armor. Just stuff that's not in the game already.

This stuff was earn able last year. If you want it now yes you have the opportunity to buy it on mog station.

Wether it's fake tailers labled as "Gameplay" to only be something that doesn't exist in reality.(Gearbox)
Graphical fedelity in gameplay demos that never make the final game. (Ubisoft)(Sony)(many others)
Developers promising to delay games if they are buggy broken messes only to launch it as a buggy broken mess anyways (Ubisoft)

I could go on but developers are like any other businessman especially in the AAA business.

More likly EU servers were not in their budget for FFXIV. Having the Mog Station store allows for more profit and allows them to have the budget for EU servers.

I think one of the most successful Cash Shop items is the Phial of Fantasia. Imagine if SE actually said, "You know what? They're right. Cash Shops DON'T belong in this game." Then they got rid of it, along with everything in the shop.

Every time we'd want to be a different race/gender, we'd have to make a new character and do the whooooooole story again!

No, in my world SE gave them so much to raise the PoS that was 1.x from the pits and had them do whatever it took to actually make profit. Of course, no one in their right mind would just give 100% to that. They gave him a limited budget, he did what he could to turn it around and make a profit. But they only get so much as obviously SE itself takes a large cut from the profits. What's left would only likely break even with maintaining staff and equipment. Worse case scenario is that even subscriptions alone wouldn't have been enough to maintain staff and equipment, so something else had to be done. No reason for SE to throw even more extra funding to them from profits of other games. Let them be self sufficient while only making profit from them. They want more, they work to get more, but only by themselves.
