Ranged DD makes it easier, but it's not impossible with just DoM + Melees, either.

ok i will agree that it NOT impossible with close range DD
but whats is the real issue is that it is far more efficient without them
well.... actually lol
i think archers should "pay" for their safety lol
maybe make the damage output difference between archers and close range DD more substantial...
hmm let me rephrase that...
swap the amount of damage an archer can do with what pugs, mrds and lnc can do.
Comments like these are what causes threads like these. Sure it's easy with an ARC burn. But don't be fooled, it's just as easy with any other setup. People already know that arrow burns work great, why bother stating it yet again?
Perhaps they should just delete archer entirely. Replace them with another H2H class since they already use their fists in auto attack. If that were the case, this thread wouldn't even exist. /sarcasm
archers burns work great for a good reason
re-read my post
I read your post just fine. What are you implying, that the reason Archers work so well is because they're good at avoiding AoE damage? OMG Reallllly? Everyone knows that already..
Point is, Melee do just as well in this fight while still, wait for it, AVOIDNG AOE DAMAGE!!! OmFg, ReAlLy???
Learn how to control the mob instead of believing that the most obvious strategy is the best one.
dude dont explain it to me,
explain it to all the people that want archer parties for their ogre runs
being a close range DD fundamentally puts them at risk of AOE's
and while they are running away from a mob they arent doing any damage
i think my argument is a valid one
I don't run away, and still avoid AoE. Your argument is no longer valid
you completely missed my point
All I'm gonna say in this thread is that at first I was totally against the MP costs. I still am, sort of... But it's brought alot more interest to my love of playing a healing class. And if you have a skilled tank you can really get going! Even if my CON is only 30 I was able to manage my MP pool effectively, including hate by using Spiritbind and Soughspeak (sp?) while curing only as needed. I've got a bit of work to do, yes... But I think overall if you pay far more attention it's very possible to survive under these new conditions.
But I agree that MP costs should be slightly lowered, maybe by 1/4th to 1/3rd of what they are now, hate management I do believe is still being tweaked. So expect this to be improved upon likely by 1.19 patch. As for the R45 dungeon, I can't offer any info on this since I haven't tried it yet. I'm a little hesitant to since hearing how much trouble people have. But give it time maybe a week to month after it's been out and it'll get easier. One thing to remember is they did drastic changes to the combat engine and tweaked our MP costs and hate all in the same patch as these instanced raids were introduced. So we have to learn the battle style all over again and in the end it sort of weeds out the skilled players from the ones who just spammed attacks and grew lazy.
what you are saying is true for this aoe, but there are some aoes that just do a straight up circle, i havent tested if you can stun every one of them with WS, but i somehow doubt it. I do know for a fact some monsters have aoe special status effects in a circle that you cant interupt with WS, so archer still has the advantage overall with highest dps, and highest ability to avoid non hate damage, not only that but they also have the highest hate control, and skills that lower hate, so they can dps more than other classes without pulling hate.
It still has the advantage in practically every respect of what a DD needs to be good.
probably still highest dps
highest threshold for dmg to turn the monster
most control over hate, (no AA, can completely stop attacking at anytime)
least likely to get hit by skills that some one without hate gets.
and most likely to be able to run away without dying (ranged attack shadow and quickstride combined with no stopping for weapon drawing/put away anymore)
if you think about what a DD needs, rng still got it all.
My LS mates and I went through this last night for the first couple times. Was frustrating at first and needed to make some adjustments. I am not really the "avoid a fight and kite" type but we needed to in certain areas. Had somewhat the same result as Dubont with the Ogre though. The bogies were teleporting to the inner and outer rings constantly and tagging mages for 500+ from each one. It looks like a fight of positioning more than anything else (not really big on that either, reminds me of the Diablo fight from FFXI). I saw some indentations on the walls of the room so perhaps those will be safe havens for the mages not sure but we will definitely work on it more. We learned a lot from it overall and I thought the biggest factor was working against the clock. Our party set was CON THAUM GLADX2 PUG LNC ARCHX2. Was complete chaos the first time around but second was better and we reached the Ogre with far more time. We will see how it goes next time around.
I like some of the changes the patch has brought. I thought that SE would develop the horrific co-dependent/dependent relationship you had to have with people in FFXI. So far when it comes to just getting SP, it seems okay at the moment. I think they need to take the limit of leves because it's not fair that party players can spam instances all day. I have heard several people whine for months about new content. The only real new content I have seen is the company quests stories. Party players want to have everyone in a party, and make solo success nothing. Thing is, it has nothing to do with being in a bubble as one of the miqo players on here stated. On XI I enjoyed playing with my friends, I also helped anyone and everyone I could. In the end I got plain used alot... WoW was the same but atleast they weren't smiling at you kissing up and being fake so they could get the next two days of your time to help them do AF quests or some other insane task. You had a choice if you wanted to associate with someone there. Yeah, people in WoW were pricks don't get me wrong, but at least they were honest. I like the idea of the instanced raids, I don't like the idea of someone telling me I need to level up 5 other classes or so to do the ONE ONLY class I am interested in at this time properly. It's time consuming, and not everyone has time to sit on a game and do nothing else forever. A young man with cancer once told me "MMORPGs are a life style" I felt horrible but I had to call him out and say "Just because people aren't bed ridden and can do nothing else doesn't mean they should have to miss out too." This isn't content, it's the grind. I wonder if it made the sick young man feel superior to get to act like he's supreme in a game only but probably not real life. They'd say sometimes in XI, "This gear is a sign of prestige" Okay... the second dumbest thing I've ever heard an MMORPGer say. To those who had the gear that could take 6 months or a year to get... When was the last time you got out of your REAL bubble.. I myself am disabled and don't get out much, but it doesn't mean I want this game system to be geared toward people who haven't even been on a date in the past 6 months or more! They need to either make all the effort you put into getting something worth it, or make it so solo players have their gear/SP opportunities too beyond having to shout or play a highly desired job they don't like to get a party to obtain this same goal. Yeah, don't take the grind away from those who want to party play, but don't give them the upper hand. In XI I hated the adventures of shouting for help to see prishe and alma.. that wasn't a story.. that was pain, and not cause of the CSes being so long.. but the time between them being longer. Shout for a job to form a party to enjoy something so simple as the story? I'd see people on the job we needed decked to the teeth.. they sit there all day, I know they weren't afk cause they'd stir a bit or look at my character when I examined them. If you sent them a tell it was "1mil and I'll help" or something else stupid. These idiots had gotten all the great mighty gear and had NOTHING to do anymore... so they took to sitting around and belittling anyone who had a real life in the real world, and couldn't have all they did. I know this is a "Wall of text" but it's not meant to insult people... it's meant to maybe see the other side too. Sorry if this post is too long for some of the less literate ones to sit through and not get angry about it's length. But I think to enjoy the game they need to make rewards for soloing be equal to party play, that way I can choose to just be with a few friends, instead of trying to be nice to some jerk so I can get somewhere in a game. Yeah it's fun to talk about how big and bad you are cause you have spent like 5 years of your life to get all the jobs up and deck them all out... go tell someone in the real world, the world people actually live in, they'll either laugh at you or they're not going to see it as some great accomplishment.. in the end when an MMO dies and the servers finally come down... you had nothing... nothing but an eternal grind, and nothing to show for it in the end but time spent doing something other than maybe making friends in your town or going to college and actually FOCUSING on it.. or any other true accomplishment you could have done in that time.
Stop crying please. None of these points are valid. Enmity is fine the way it is.. Just cause u dont know how to hate manage as a mage is no ones fault. I dont have that issue.
Dungeons need not to be nerfed at all. You need to strategize. Its not hard at all to recover after a wipe when u run back...
Gear damage is fine.. get crafting.. cost less
MP cost is fine.. learntoMPmanage.com coordinate with other mages in the party
In a perfect world FFXI would be an ideal game, but online or not people are just people... only behind a computer.. and people will treat others horribly or not help without benefit. Humanity isn't perfect, and creating this masochistic co-dependent/dependent relationship with other players is not my idea of fun. How long was anyone's play time in XI? try and think about how much of that time was spent shouting for help, or doing anything other than actually experiencing the content so you could experience the content. Small rewards for so much time.
"Get crafting" What if you prefer adventuring with combat, and don't enjoy crafting? Why should anyone have to do something they hate to enjoy the things in the game they want to? Sounds like a wonderful time vampire to me. Then again you probably love the masochistic grind, and the idea of doing a bunch of things you're not interested in just to be efficient in what you are interested in. Do you also friendlist people just because they have jobs that may help you in something, and not because you actually enjoyed playing with the person? I mean that instance stuff is fine how it is for the hard core people that enjoy never getting off a game or the real world outside. But they shouldn't make things like gear wear and tear so ridiculous to fix without grinding on a craft for a good long while, or without kissing up to a crafter, so they can use them for their skills to repair when ever they need. Keep all casual play equally beneficial to hard core play. Including rewards SP gear whatever... I mean yeah it's great to have an awesome piece of gear. But why should people who don't have to leave the house get to rub others noses in the dirt because they have jobs or a life in the real world. Then again I guess people have to have some place where they can act superior, even if it's just digital items.
If you're so stuck on ARC being OP and "the best DD," go level ARC and stop complaining. Seems you will argue with every piece of advice given. So yea, like others have said, have some cheese with your whine.
To those open to advice and suggestions, and willing to "break out of the mold" best of luck to you all. Don't be fooled into thinking the most obvious strategies are the "best" as some would have you believe. They're obviously just jealous of those who don't play follow the leader.
Enmity is obviously not fine when provoke doesn't do what provoke is supposed to do. Manage hate? Ok. Went in to the dungeon last night. Waited 30 seconds for the tank to establish hate. I cast a cure 1. Ogre turned to me. Hate manage? yeah...fix enmity.
We actually got a strat worked out and I realized that the reason we kept dying so early...is because people wouldn't move into position fast enough, but getting back in after a wipe is still hard and almost near impossible as SOMEONE will die 90% of the time.
Gear damage, itself, is fine, but having to pump out almost 50k every we run the dungeon is not fine.
MP cost is not fine. Without 3 mages, the chances of running out MP are extremely high. I know how to manage MP as we've done the dungeon 10 times with only 2 mages (1 con, 1 thm) and the MP management was decent, but the fact that I have to cure, press f, cure, press f, cure, press f just to keep a solid amount of MP is ridiculous. This game probably has the highest MP costs of ANY game out there right now. Either lower the MP cost (just by a bit..maybe lower it by 10%) or increase the potency of the cures to accommodate for the MP cost.
None of my points are valid? Ok, stats are still broken and raises all share the same timer so there's no point in having anything other than R2 and Rebirth...so..why have the ability to use them, if we can't use them? Point is valid.
When I choose to do something I will put 100% into it.. or else why bother? I chose to play this game and I will endure the changes that SE makes. I will learn the new system and adapt to it and learn a better way to play with it.
No one is forcing you to do anything. You dont want to craft then dont craft.. the end result is you having to always look for repairs and continue to complain. I guess you will never be happy.
I dont get why ppl like you seem to always find things to complain about.. why are u still playing?
funny that you say that considering how, until this patch, I was never a healer at all. I would toss out a cure once or twice if the THM was down on mana, but any other time, I was a full time blm con. You want to talk about easy mode to a player that played FFXI for 7 years and solo/duod blm all the way to 75? yeah ok, bro. I'm not happy that CON is the new whm especially since I am a terrible healer. ZOMG! HE SAID HE IS BAD! Yes, I admitted that I'm a terrible healer and the only game that I've ever mained healer in was PWI, but the point still remains that the mana costs for the cures in this "casual friendly" game are still much higher than any other game and they need to be lowered. Also, sir, I would like for you to actually comment on my other points instead of trying to belittle me to make yourself feel better about your life.
I'm calling BS here. I've been in this fight more than a dozen times and nothing short of cure/sac 3 should pull hate off the tank if the tank is doing his job. Again provoke does provide an enmity boost but not as big as it was. You have to use ALL the tools at your disposal to succeed
1) He has a point...
2) FFXI allowed raise 1-3 on diff. timers. They werent 3min CDs if i remember correctly
3) Wonder if pple actually notice this?
4) TBH i think the current system may be costing the same, if not more, for the R50s than was before the 1.18 patch
5) This id have to disagree. This boss was a good wake up call for the pple who wanted challenging content. ALOT of us had gotten soft and inattentive due to the ease of things (from NMs to leve lvling). Alot where like 'Hey we hardcore, bring it on SE cause we waiting, hurry the hell up.' and BAM, SE hit us with something everyone has to have their eyes glued to the screen+etc to complete for once. Its hard but no where near impossible. It reminded me alot of those promathia missions and the sense of accomplishments. Right now some of us cant even clear this without demand for some kinda absurd arcarcarcarcconconconglaglaglagla setup, and it made me realize, how much we slacked since the release.
6) no comment. havent spammed heal 3's that much cause knowing SE, it would get the same reactions as mobs in the dunes+cure III >_>; i hear cure2s generate pretty good aggro so i guess its true.
Why? Cause I do like MMORPGs it's nice to play with other gamers cause I WANT to not NEED to. The difference meaning I want their company and like the person, as opposed to needing them weather I give a care about them or not. 100% into anything you do, eh? I hope it doesn't including getting a job, doing school or actually being worth while what so ever in the real world... cause if SE continues to make casual play less beneficial you're not doing that. I guess it's people like you that say "Screw having a life, I have this MMORPG." Well honey when the servers go down, and you've spent ten or so years giving 100% of your all because no game will go forever.. what will you have to show for it? Old stories of the game adventures that really no one other than people who played it are gonna care about? I like MMORPGs, but no I don't think it's a life style you should put 100% of your efforts into, it's for fun not a job? Do you get paid for this? Does it put food on your table? Maybe if you sold gil in it to feed yourself I could have maybe a bit more respect. It'd explain why you're happy with reduced gil rewards for leves and such. I mean gil sellers can't sell a product when there is no demand cause it's easy to get, right? Oh... maybe you should pursue this career, your slogan can be "Show you care! Buy Gil so a 30 year old virgin can eat!" Yeah I know that was immature of me but hey, how mature is saying you put 100% of your efforts into something that's supposed to be fun, not work.
That's the attitude that brings in the crowd eh? Fancying any new members into your elite game with that mindset?
Good luck.
I bet thanos is one of those people who have no idea the world outside of their front door exists. Or just feels so poorly about the person they are outside of the game, it makes them feel better to be elite in at least a digital world! It's okay Thanos you'll always be loved so long as the servers don't go down and you're able to manipulate others to get ahead in this digital world.
and here you go trying to belittle me. No, I know what I'm doing from a hate and mp management standpoint seeing as how (if you actually read my post instead of just trying to find a reason to yell at me more) I solod/duod blm in XI...what I didn't mention was that I was elvaan and I did perfectly fine. I still played healers, but I never mained them (meaning I never took one past like..65) So yes, I know what I'm doing as far as MP is concerned, I'm just not good at knowing thresholds and the limits of my cures.
So far, most people seem to agree with almost everything aside from #5. After testing it out a bit more, I did realize that the fight is actually pretty decent once you get past the initial aggro (the reason we would wipe was due to a party member's error, which we have now corrected). Now we just need the right setup as 1 con, 1 thm, 2 arc, 2 mrd, 1lnc and 1 pug just isn't quite cutting it so I retract the statement about the dungeon needing a nerf. I WILL NOT, however, retract my statement about the mobs depoping so that the party can reenter. I still strongly believe that this needs to at least be looked at.
Considering con has nuke spells and not just cures, it is a shame to see them made into a cookie cutter class. Being a healer can be fun if you like that.. and wanna deal with people ready to verbally lynch you if you make one mis-step and they die. I was a whm 75 in XI, I only ever went so for very close friends cause I hated the masses that just wanted to suck up cause healers were so obscure. You're right Dubont you shouldn't have to be restricted from using other abilities in a class. I mean it'd be nice if people could tweak their characters to choose more. When you make classes that are more flexible you don't find these static party set ups because there's only ONE true tank class and so on. I mean people screamed for more strategy, and it seems they still didn't get it like they thought. Strategy that requires one method and set up for doing something isn't a strategy, it's making it easier to post a solution on a wiki to a battle. I much prefer strategy where I can think of many possibilities, such as a con being able to lay into a boss with it's elemental magic and have it be effective and not always be a designated healer.
And yet you're no better. Here you are belittling others on a video game forum for being good at a game and putting time into it. You act like anyone who tries to be good at any game is some 40 yr old shut-in, failure in society. I put my all into the game when I can play. I have a job, college and friends I hang out with in the real world. Fact still stands that once I log in I give it 100% as well.
hold on... giving 100% means i sit here playing all day? sorry thats not the case
I will put 100% effort into learning the game mechanics, into doing everything the game has to offer. If it takes me a week or a year to get something i will play the game for what it is instead of sitting here crying like you are.
oh newflash everything in this world requires effort.. even fun things.. oh yea i forgot... ur lazy
