So happy to be able to quote people like this with a huge 'I told you so' now that we have confirmation that NIN uses dex as per the latest live letter.
So many people in this thread look silly now.

It seems to me that since NIN is a DEX based job it is most likely they will share bard or get their own set ... they only share MNK gear up to 2.3 because by damn its cheaper that way.
EDIT
Curses! Foiled by the Necro bump once again!!!!
I think SE is going to go back and put dex on all monk gear retro activity then they will share gear with monk going forward.
I think it more likely they share BRD gear up to 2.3 stuff, simply because their main stat is Dexterity.
Most likely. They did that with a lot of pre-50 DoM gear that has both MND and INT on the same piece. It's only post-50 do we really start seeing gear divergence.
Also, I'm glad they are taking the more lore-focused approach I predicted months ago instead of just taking the easy way out that everyone was so sure they would do.
I'm fairly sure a dev or in a live letter long before quoted it was likely going to be DEX based. For anyone to be surprised now, doesn't really pay attention. I long felt it would be DEX based because I felt they had said so already. Of course people were fast to assume, "I hit with weapons, I must be STR based.". They also use something akin to Magic, that makes perfect sense to use on an STR stat for that.
Since I feel like this post here is really nice for what I want to ask, I'm just going to quote it.
Since it's already been mentioned several time now, that the Dual Wield is a special weapon type, I'm just going to ask how this will work?
Will it be the same way the Monk-Weapon works, so you have equipped one weapon but you're basically holding one in each hand, or will it be that you can equip a second dagger to the Shield slot to make it an actual dual wield?
I think that the latter makes more sense in this case, since they've said it's a special weapon type. And I don't really mind it that way :3
If DEX is the main stat, woudlnt Nin just compete against Brds for accessories? O_O
How exactly will MNK/DRG be competing with ninja? If Ninja can roll need on it, then it would be the same if it was just another MNK or DRG.
It's no different.
They aren't really: Dexterity means how adept someone is with their hands/feet. Agility is more related to litheness of body eg flexibility, reaction speed etc. They are both very related terms, but not exactly the same .
Eg: A billiards player can be dextrous but not agile and a high jumper can be agile without being dextrous.
In XI, agility was the ranged acc stat and also the evasion stat. Dex was the crit and melee accuracy stat.
Nearly every game uses dex for thief and ninja classes. Absolutely nothing prevents from modifying the stat description to include damage for those classes. The mistake is thinking an mmo that's going to run for years will never change and will always be rigid despite getting entirely new classes.
Again and again. This is not other MMO's. The stat systems were established as STR = melee DPS and DEX = ranged DPS. Its simple, and easy for anyone to understand. Now you start mixing it up, now this job needs this stat, and this one procs off this one now. Know what happens afterwards? Dedicated gear sets have to be made for them. Know what happens next? That gear is thrown into Coils and other raids, which means the loot tables get bigger, harder to manage, and less chance of you getting your set pieces. If SE actually stuck to their formula, they could of just thrown NIN into the MNK category for gear (like they are doing for gear from 2.0 to 2.3) and would of been fine. Like if Dark Knight ends up being a DPS, it could be thrown into the Maiming set with DRG. It keeps things clean and the loot tables less hectic than they are now. It only gets worse from here if SE decides that certain jobs need be under certain stats.
Ever heard the story of "If you give a mouse a cookie?"
Yet they didn't, they gave them their own set past 2.4 and let them use MNK from 2.0 to 2.3. What makes you think they wouldn't do it for other jobs? Why didn't they let them use the same gear as ARC/BRD? Can you answer that for me? Want to hear a better reason than how BRD gear looks. I have a basis for my argument. If they put NIN's gear on BRD, I wouldn't be complaining here right now. If they do it the first time, they will likely do it again, and the pieces will stack up.
I get the feeling that in 3.0 once the loot tables get big enough we'll see 3 gear drops per raid, as opposed too 2.
This way they can get away with creating unique gears sets for coil as much as possible and still have the same chance of any given gear dropping in a run.
