It applied to me, cause and effect, I like it.

I don't get why people think AA will stop us from fighting "strategic" battles.
It's just AA, not like the normal attack got any stronger o,Ô'
Right now, I know of nobody who sits in front of his PC and smashes the "1" on his keyboard all day.
Normal attacks are just not really effective.
Autoattack does just that - it puts in some normal attacks between your skills which you still have to select and use yourself.
Different skills...which are used by yourself..not used by AA..you get where this is going?
Right. AA won't stop you from using skills and playing strategically.
Where did this weird idea even come from?!
Why not make the game MORE action based by removing the stamina bar and keeping the manual attack?
Why is this thread still open? You're all baddies, only I am worth something.
My 1 gil is worth more than your 1 gil.
they should remove targeting all together, i love how tera is looking and how action it is. lots of moving around no targeting lock, that would of been awsome for this game i think.
I think you are looking for this: http://www.tera-online.com/forums/index.php
i think i know where it's at, i think your looking for aol chat rooms not a game. don't tell me where i need to be, i been playing the ff series since first game at age like 7... auto attack in ffxi was ok till the last few years of it if u even stuck threw the game that long, but it sucked by the end. zombies ..your all zombies lol.
by way i'll be getting gw2 and tera, and i'll stay with this game too if it don't suck but i bet most people will need a good year off of this game b4 it has enough content in it. and by then most of u rooting for auto attack will have left it high and dry. oh wells.
All you FFXI nerd/lovers should get into your time machine and travel back 10 years to the exact game you want this to be.
I can only wish they get rid of the idea altogether! What people call "Button Mashing" isn't as it seems and it keeps the player busy while focusing on alternative attacks too. It's carefully taps of the key/ button and it seems "botting " is still catching on. The stamina gauge helps if it increases quicker and uses less over higher ranking adventurers.
This was the concept and founding features that made up part of FF14 but Square Enix is starting to show it's age and look down on meshing Action-RPG to make an unforgettable experience.
If I wanted Auto-Attack- that's why there's FFXI.
Start doing something different for a change SE!
If they were doing it to circumvent third-party tools and catch users in the act, it's understandable but it's just going to lead to a mutation of other user tools and it's up to everyone with a trained eye to detect them/ if not go on you merry way.
At this point, why not make auto-attack optional?
It worked in FFXI and it certainly will work in FFXIV. I'm for the Auto-Attack.
Optional is perfectly fine too! After all, who can hate options? :P
well having both options is like chosing controller or wii remote for playing a shooter. they not the same game. plus if just an option i'd probably kick anyone from my group using auto cause i'd deem them lazy asses that are afk. or most would just use it if one or the other became the norm. plus how can u really have manual and auto, doesn't really work having both.
either way, yeah it worked for ffxi but near it's end of life auto attack sucked when people was just tp burning an no weapon chains and bursts. then it was just zombie grinding and no fun. hopefully they fix the br and in a way were we acually use it, but if anything like now? no one is using them for much more then nm's so, eh auto attack will suck and lose it's appeal to most people.
I would argue that the future releases over the next year and a half will emphasis more action oriented combat. SWOTR is the exception, not the rule... and I haven't heard anything that awe inspiring to judge that the game system will be a success, rather it will be successful because star wars nerds, just like final fantasy ones will salivate for dog shit if it has lightsabers in it.
I find myself losing more and more care to play this game with how much I continue reading.
Why? The auto-attack overhaul taking place alongside other good changes.
See my previous post in this thread if you (a new reader) haven't read it.
Why are people still talking about this?
Because until 1.18, that's about the only thing fun to do with this game.
auto-attack made for much more interesting gameplay in FFXI... SAY YES TO AUTO-ATTACK! More like XI less like WoW KTHXBYE KIDS
This thread is still alive?
No offence intended but forums are made for people to discuss, if you dislike people talking in forums, you are more than welcome to not read it.
I guess not enough people said no. If I wanted to buy FF 11, I would have bought FF 11.
I didn't because it was sluggish and felt like I was barely playing the game.
This auto attack is awful. I simply can't stop raging about it.
They could have at least made it OPTIONAL.
Now if I target an enemy the game decides that it's time to attack it even without my say.
I feel like that kid that got the x-box only to open it up and the box contained clothes.
I bought 14 and they're slowly turning it into a game I passed up because it wasn't fun to me.
I have to agree with this. Not the "rage" part, but just a general kind of displeasure. I had tried to reserve my judgement on this issue until I got my hands on the system. Having fussed around with it? This is a step backwards. I don't know why removing input from the player was seen as a positive direction to travel in. I liked setting my own pace in battle. I liked managing my own TP gain. I liked being able to react with increased or decreased output of whatever it was I was doing as the situation evolved.
FFXIV team, your game mechanics have never been the problem. They were just different. The problem with FFXIV has been a lack of content. You made an incredibly pretty world, filled it with some excellently animated and realized characters, and then you gave me nothing to do in it.
Should you have simply opted for more content? You would've had my subscription fee for at least as long as XI had it (about five years or so). Now? Your game doesn't offer me anything that I can't get somewhere else. And those other venues have had much more time to populate their worlds with things to do.
It's unlikely to happen, but here: Roll back the combat changes. Or at least give me a choice between using the active stamina system, and using the auto-attack you've rolled out.
agreed. The battle mechanics were never a problem. Lack of content was. We love final fantasy because of the story and awesome graphics. Add more content quests, like the main story quests, real time cutscenes, voiced npcs, cutscenes. Add content. Roll back all this auto attack crap, all the stupid mp changes and make improvements to the target system. The way this goes, a whole bunch will quit even before it gets a fee.
Exact opinion my friend and I have had. I held this idea as soon as the auto-attack video was shown, even. I'm just wondering how long it'll take before people realize that this makes things a lot more boring and generic, and complain for another overhaul (I give it about a month).
I like this topic also but listen this auto attack is just the first part of it they said that 1.19 and so on would bring the rest of the auto attack so take a chill pill and wait and see how thing turn out -.- even tho i like the game before the auto attack at least now i can use my JA without waiting for the bar to go up then when i have enough i just die -.-
I don't know that any amount of "completion" is going to help with this direction. There will still be less control in the hands of the player (which again, is a confusing choice), and there will still be nothing that separates FFXIV's method of interacting with one's environment from the rest of the available MMO fare.
That's not to say the old system was entirely revolutionary, just that it was dressed in a way I had appreciated. I hopped on again today, and honestly attempted to acclimate to this system. The result was just...boredom. Tapping "guard" every now and again, and simply waiting for TP to build for a weaponskill was boring. The idea that I, as a player, should sit and wait for the game to play itself for me and only offer my suggestions as to what should be going on when the game asks me to is just not appealing.
Anyway, I've said my piece here. Here's hoping it gets read, and there'll be more on the feedback board whenever I get around to compiling my thoughts.
YAY AUTO ATTACK!!
This is so much better than spamming that stupid 1 key over and over, game and tactics will be better for auto attack.
I love auto-attack.
I'm happy that you're happy with the change. (Really, no sarcasm.)
And I know that a lot of people like the change. For me though, it just seems like I went to the doctor with a headache and her solution was to give me a mild lobotomy. I was so happy that FFXIV seemed to be moving towards more a more active battle system that emphasized being involved with the battle and de-emphasized pigeon-holing characters into nothing more than roles. Unfortunately for me, the addition of auto-attack and the new focus on jobs have removed both of those.
I'm feeling about this way too. And although I am dealing with the nerfing that occurred with the ranged classes, auto attack really isn't good for us (or our party members, really.) I personally would prefer the manual attacking if it means I can be away from the mob. It doesn't make much sense that we have to be so close to the target in order to use our weapons (or fists on Archer which just seems silly) when they are made to be ranged weapons in the first place.
Dreamer, Ive played a few RPGs with a form of Auto-Attack, most of them didnt feel engaging even when using a special ability. The others did feel more engaging though but only because they had a faster pace. Not to mention some allowed to turn it off, some only started when you are attacked by an enemy or when you attack an enemy by which point the game takes over on the basic attack.
FFXIVs atm is unengaging and slow, perhaps the slow just looks like that because the animations are slightly screwed. Nether the less Im findin combat out side of Mages dreadfully boring. The pigeon-holing doesnt make being a Mages all that great either but I get my own back by way of a hose pipe ban on MP, all in the sake of "MP management"
Just my opinion.
I do struggle to see how '1 spamming' can be called engaging combat. This combat is very similar without the tedious 1 spam as more often than not I am using 1 ability or another. If anybody is staring at the screen watching the auto attack then you must be doing something wrong..
