It's not the essential quest formula that's changed, when you break it down it's still kill X, gather Y, escort Z, etc. What makes it different is that the quests have storylines, the outcomes actually affect each other and the world can respond in different ways.

After centaurs attacked a village (we lost the event) and broke through one of the walls, the NPCs went out and gathered materials and repaired the wall in real time, complete with voice acted dialogue. If we had driven the centaurs off, the outcome would have been completely different and likely opened up new quests. And that's just one event of hundreds all throughout the game world.

It's that kind of thing that makes the world feel alive and dynamic. Would you HONESTLY not want to see things like that in XIV?

This is why brands will change their image or tagline from time to time. People will perceive it as different because the brain is easily fooled.

It really is the same, but ppl understandably have a hard time grasping this due to how the brain works. If you make it seem different enough, the brain is unable to associate it with the old system.

if the dialogue is 'voice acted in real time', explain to me how the content is dynamic. are the voice actors sitting there in studio, drinking coffee and eating donut holes, just WAITING for the conclusion of the event so they can act it out live, just for you and a handful of other players?

sounds more like a bunch of stuff was planned and finished ahead of time, thrown in a pot, and a random number generator pulls out those finished bits to piece together into a 'dynamic' event.

seriously. think about it.

By "real time," I meant that the process of the NPCs rebuilding the wall happened realistically. It's immersive and actually makes it feel like the world is changing. Of course every outcome is pre-planned, but every game is like that, even the Elder Scrolls games. It's just about having enough outcomes and enough "fluff" (the dialogue, changing scenery, etc) to give the illusion of a dynamic world.

Not hundreds, thousands. Where in XIV do we have thousands of events that have direct cause and effect? We don't. I'm simply suggesting to SE that it might be a good idea to learn some things from their competitors; and yes GW2 will be a FULL competitor to XIV. Hell; maple story has more players and income I think at this point.

Please tell me how what i described is the same?

Where in XIV do quests have consequences?
Where in XIV do quests have dynamic reactions and realtime adjustments?
Where in XIV do quests have any meaning other than loot?

I'm not trying to attack XIV, I'm very much looking forward to 2.0 and wouldn't want it to flat-out-copy any other game. The current world is just very lifeless.

I support any small changes they can make to make it feel more alive and immersive, even if those are just "buzzwords" and immersion is an illusion, and even if it means taking a look at what other games are doing.

Seriously, who here is acting like a fool. And look who is being ridiculous now. Your criticism is not valid at all. You somehow arent getting it, and I'm having a hard time understanding why you have such a negative opinion of it. Did you not like Campaign in FFXI? If you didnt then to each there own, but I liked it better than some endgame in FFXI. I do apologize for lumping you in with the SEDF, but why are you so against it? What is your investment in this argument? What are you trying to prove other than that you obviously think the idea is bad or not different? So far the arguments you have presented seem thin to me, like you are trying to really reach to make it sound bad, or that you want it to fail for the sake of your own satisfaction. All I see is either people doing the typical SEDF bullsh*t, or in your case Fusional maybe you just like to cause trouble? All I want is fun frivolus things added to FFXIV.
