I fully agree to that. My point isn't "that guy is a good guy". It's just "That's what journalism is nowadays, I expected nothing more, so I am not disappointed."

But then again why would one invite someone like him? I don't get it, I thought the fanfest was about tease and promote the game. There was so much to say then the guy chose te report garbage.

Just want to chime in to voice my support for never inviting RockPaperShotgun and this guy to any future FFXIV events.

They probably thought he'd write something better. Then again, it's not as bad as you all tend to make it. The guy just said "that's not for me, but some find it cool" in a quite disrepectful way. He's disrespectful, he lacks a lot of skills that make a good journalist, and yeah, rock paper shotgun could have send someone that's more fitted for the game. They didn't, and that lead to that mess. You can't blame SE for inviting a medium that's quite popular (for reasons unknown to me, but still). Alexa ranks it 2500ish, so sure, it's not IGN, but it has an audience. It's about video games, and they might have made some good avertisement for the game. They didn't, because they sent a jerk. There's no need for an uproar, in my opnion...

I can't see how this is advertisement for the game, the article seems to go to great effort to make the player base look as weird as possible, it's nothing more than a hatchet job at best.

I don''t think people are blaming SE for this. more like asking SE to disallow RPS from attending after this article.


It wasn't even about being disrespectful to SE, but being deceitful and disrespectful to the fans and cosplayers(who had a cosplay contest as part of the events, which was convieniently left out in the article.)

I always found apathetic stances like this to be really pointless to bring to a discussion. Also from what I'm seeing no one is blaming SE for this, it's not odd for companies to pay for coverage, but the company could have sent someone with at least a hint of knowledge about the game.

I know this has been said multiple times already (probably). And i didnt read any of this thread yet.

He clearly asked the question on the small chance he'd get a juicy click/bait or outrage answer. If Square had said something like "It's ok" in any capacity, the hounds of outrage journalists would jump in.
