New Gun Class/job

Saying that the gun shields could be an interesting choice for a tank weapon, but I don't what class would be created for them. I am totally behind Samurai as a tank, but I would hope any great sword class (dark knight please) is a dps job, else it would end up playing too close to warrior as a tank, something an agile samurai can get away from.

If the first paragraph came off a bit strong I apologise, it is meant purely to emphasise my point in greater detail and not intended as argumentative.

I completely agree. However someone states that its been confirmed to either be a tank/heal role. Given the two options, only the heal role is possible. I said earlier DPS makes the most sense, I mean, its a gun. But I've seen a couple people claim that it will come in 3.0 and that it will be Tank/heals. Heck one person (Different thread) even mentioned that Yoshi said it would require MRD. I asked for the specific source, but of course he hasn't given one yet.

I was really hoping the gun class would be a healer and/or tank. With the seeming displeasure of the community at job splitting I dont see that happening. I can't find Yoshi saying there would only be two classes in the xpac one healer and one tank. He has said that there will be more classes added in the xpac a healer and tank among them.

I would like to see a chemist healer like the one from tactics. Make strong potions and mixtures and throw them at your allies to heal them. The gun could be for damage and debuffs ala WHM earth and air spells and the "heal grenades" being tossed around healing and buffing. I would like to see it heal off tp and use med dex armor. One can dream. I don't actually expect this but yoshi said we wouldn't.

I do not expect the class to be damage focused. For a class that has been lurking around from 1.0 being a dd or a dd with debuffs and buffs ala reverse bard/corsair seems to be too easy and the class would have been implemented already. Maybe a mid range, small cast time (got to load that blunderbuss), spike & aoe damage*SHRUG*?

I linked a picture of the lominsa leader duel wielding in my previous post how ever she and the other npcs only carry a single pistol in game. The gun class guild icon shows crossed pistols but the marauder shows two crossed axes and gladiator two crossed swords. Seeing how nice the ninja animations are duel wield guns needs to be pretty flashy.

What are you guys hoping to see out of the "gun class"? What kind of abilities and traits would you like to see?

But bard is still part of the archer class, any job is still a part of its class. A bard has to dps in a fight, seeing as they dish out a beastly amount of it. So yes a bard does use its weapon to complete its role, as its weapon is a bow, and its role is to deal damage which it completes with a bow.

every job and class in the game at the moment uses it's weapon in some way to perform it's role in a group, whether its drawing magic and smacking some fool around the face with it, the weapon is being used to perform its role within a party. With the gun healer this no longer becomes the case, unless they go all out magitek gun that shoots magical healing spells (would look incredibly jarring).

I think the biggest thing that has to be observed when creating a new class, is what mechanics can be created with each weapon, and which role then best serves those mechanics. Let's say a gunblade for example; the weapon by design creates a mechanic of utilizing ranged and melee, and could incorporate the abillity to switch between the two. Instantly we have a mechanic befitting of the weapon and its design, from there we ask, what role could make the best use of this. Well tanks are always melee else they can't tank, so that puts us at half effectiveness. On the other side healers are generally set up solely with range in mind, this is too allow them less dodging of aoe mechanics so they have more chance of survivabillity. Finally DPS, a role which can be performed from both ranged and melee effectively, with many classes having access to both for a some abillities, but not as an overall mechanic.

so looking at this we found the role that could utilize gunblade most effectively through what would becomes its rotation. This is how all weapons should be looked at when being implemented, to create the most unique and engaging classes.

I expect we'll see 4 classes in the expansion, tank/heal/range/magic. very rudimentary guesstimate though based on the balance of jobs and the amount of content that is supposedly being added.

I just want a straight up non magical ranged DPS, as straight up as DPS get in this game, because admittedly they all have some sort of support ability. Bard was kinda sorta leaned closer into a bigger DPS role in ARR after being closer to a support role in 1.x, and it does do some decent DPS but it's not quite it for me. Though if Musketeer ended up with Chemist as their job I honestly wouldn't really have an issue. Knowing the direction this game is going, I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up being changed into a Magitek Gunswordshieldthatthrowsgunsthatshootmoreguns tank class with a pet, nothing wrong with that, but yeah no.

I have been trying to find where the question was asked. I believe it was from either the 16 hour live letter or from the live letter from the tgs this weekend neither translations have yet to be posted on the officials. The Tokyo fate event live letter translations from April I can't find on my phone either. Ninja class was announced about then. Any who check this out. Has all the live letter talking pionts and interviews with sources.
