World of Darkness raid yesterday with Cerberus: had someone hold the chains until he lost them, went fast to get it back as Reaper and it wasn't enough time to get back to interact until... one of the healers rescued me into the fetter, god bless him, fight saved.

There's nothing really wrong with this bit. Rogue/Ninja and Monk are probably the best classes for running ahead and pulling extra to the tank. They have one "mitigation" tool if you'll call it in addition to their arm's length. There's nothing super wrong with a dps pulling extra for the tank unless they go and get themselves killed or unless it's a tank in a dungeon under level 50 that's asked them not to pull big.

Started AST to try something new, my third healer after WHM and SGE. It's interesting if pretty involving, maybe because of that.

At lvl 59, Gubal Library tank is pulling a lot of folks and dying a lot sooner than I can heal him between giving out cards and using Essential Dignity and Aspected Benefic. Trying to do damage too but he's taking dmg too fast and I'm in the middle of cooldowns and when I've got them back, I can't cast multiple heal spells in row fast enough for him to survive. And he dies, three times in total during the dungeon.

The only mitigation I saw him use was Rampart, not a single Reprisal or Arm's Length. I didn't know about Paladin's other mitigations but after reading about the job, I see there are quite a few and I highly doubt he was using those considering the speed he was taking damage. He did use Clemency once.

I've decided not to say anything anymore, unless I'm being challenged with "why not healing". Otherwise I'm keeping my mouth shut and seeing how it goes and taking it as a lesson as emergency healing. But I won't let it turn into a workout, if they die, they die. I've got two other players to heal too. What I find strange though is that the tanks I have this problem with are most often Paladins. There have been great PLDs surely but if there's this problem, it is more often PLD than not. I find it strange - is Paladin some godly character in some other MMO's?

Trial Roulette: Chrysalis, as a WHM.

The DRG was a sprout. As expected, they tried to hit that LB3 to the party's dismay. Thankfully Nabriales was slippery this first time & teleported away, effectively cancelling the cast. The party chat was full of "Noooo/Stooopp/Don't LB3!!/Use it on Tear!!", but I guess the sprout wasn't reading. Because once Nabriales becomes targetable once again they charge that LB3.

"Sorry not sorry, Mr/Mrs.Sprout." I said to myself as I hit the rescue button to interrupt their cast, then conveniently Nabriales starts the tear phase.

PLD quite possibly remains the squishiest of 4 tanks until lv82 or above where they receive gigantic self sustenance additions to their Shelltron & Spellblade phase. That being said, they shouldn't really die that quickly with proper mits and dodging red carpets.

Excellent tips, I wasn't sure if they are stackable. I will remember this.

I had another PLD at Sohm Al at lvl 60. It was painless, everything just worked. They stayed alive without me having to work for it and they even cast Clemency on me at some point. It just felt right.

Don't you love playing healer and getting shouted at by your team to stop dpsing and heal more when no one has died yet. I love it. If you're hp hits 0 then we'll talk but until then I'm spamming my 1 attack.

I'm convinced that people on Dynamis are just being asinine at this point. Non-sprout tank randomly provokes the boss and then proceeds to flip it before a cleave, killing half the party.

Someone explain to me how I'm supposed to interpret that as anything besides grieving?

I don't think it's a mistake considering they were comfortable letting the other tank have aggro up until that moment. There wasn't any mechanics that forced them to spin the boss either.

Not surprised to see someone defending this behavior though...

I am defending it because you are saying that there is no other explanation than griefing, when there are plenty of other explanations.

Mistakes can easily happen, even if there is no reason to make the mistake. I make stupid mistakes too. It happens. Casting the wrong spell. Moving in the wrong way, entering a dungeon with the wrong gear on (although thankfully just once). It sucks if it impacts your play, but it happens.

while it's true that most people aren't looking to ruining the day there are people in the game that does exactly that. I don't even need to think that far back in my experience.

Few months ago was in alliance run Orbonne Monastery, and in the Agrias fight a tank from another group either knew fight inside out or had a addon, because he knew just when to provoke to get the Thunder Slash and face it to the group wiping it.

okey maybe he was new but he did it again second time but later on so he could let us think it was was safe and again wipe, the third time he did not wipe the whole group but many enough so we wiped at the the adds phase, then the 4 time he aggro all the adds together so we we ofc wiped again.

we had asked the group to vote kick him many time after the second wipe but got no response, but soon after the the forth wipe he left or something and 4 others in same group left at the same time. could meant nothing but it also could meant that others in the group was taking part with the tank.

Oh. Yeah, right. Honestly, I'm not a fan of dps pulling before me, except in special cases: again, I move fast in general, and if I don't it's for a reason. That said, I don't let people die or kick them for that reason.

The fact he did that 4 times indicates he either was hoping to get CT raids, and decided to throw a tantrum because he didn't get what he wanted rather than leaving and taking a penalty right away, or he was looking for people to help him take a vacation

I was debating if I wanted to write this peculiar story I experienced a couple of days ago, but after speaking to my friend about it I decided to just go for it cause why not: LotA via Alliance Roulette, as a WHM on alt character.

This was a queue outside server's peak hour, but I would never guessed to wait for 22m before it finally pops only to threw me into one of the CT raids. Henceforth once I zoned in I wrote in party chat: "Lol 22m queue on roulette just for a LotA."

Person A:"What's so funny about it?"
Me:"Well why not? :thonk:"
Person B:"Not a clue."

The exchanges sort of left me with odd feeling, but for the moment I decided to ignore it.

Fast forward to after Thanatos, person A said "pls roll". This is when I started to notice the first red flag. I tested the water by rolling first two item that dropped from Zombie Dragon... instantly given out. Okay yeah, I decided to -not- roll the loots from Thanatos just yet, then paid a closer attention to this person A. The 2nd red flag almost immediately became apparent: they were quite possibly not fully present or semi afk, and deliberately eating red carpets when they weren't like this at any capacity prior to this.

The worst of all was when we reached Behemoth, they died once at where people spawn when they accept teleport prompt. I raised them to behind a comet to anticipate the upcoming Meteor cast, which they immediately squandered by wandering away from the comet then just stood out there---nope, not even auto attacking---until they die to the impact and still wrote in party:"What did I do wrong" (Great question, I probably wanted to ask the same myself!). Person B was so quick to respond to this obvious question that it makes me suspect these two are queueing together...or quite possibly double boxing(?).

Were they new to this? Apparently no. When I examined person A, they do have couple of lv90s and was using some "Erudite <X>"-title. Ain't no way that person's new.

I really hope I was just reading too much into them, but I couldn't help but thought ill of their intention behind the behavior(s). The deliberate 'standing in bad', being semi afk, and asking the obvious felt like they were trying to purposely elicit unsavory responses.

You see people like you. You are my kind of people. It absolutely annoys me to no end when I see tanks using this to heal themselves because they think they are in danger. If the fight is going wrong and you see your healers struggling then work away, but watching these candy men pop it randomly for no reason drives me up the walls.

Personally I would like to see Clemency, Cover, Sheild Bash and Divine Veil get removed with this rework. They are shocking. Veil whilst useful just needs to be like the rest where you pop it when you want it. They thought they were nice by letting you proc it with your own healing spells, but if I'm not in that phase of my rotation then I'm at a healers mercy waiting for it. Every other tanks works the way it should but for some reason PLD's one is just absolute biscuits in comparison. Thank goodness for big wings.

Is it me, or does anyone else find it really adorable when you get a group of sprouts new to the duty who don't know what to do but realise you do, so they wind up clinging to you and following you around during the entire boss fight like a lost puppy? I was in SMA HM the other day, and had a DRG that was practically standing on top of me wherever I went to make sure they were following the mechanics correctly, it was so cute.

Though slightly less cute is when I was trying to fit in a 50/60 roulette 30 mins before reset, and I wound up with a sprout tank in WP. HM. Pulling one mob at a time. With a sprout BLM trying to kill the sacred standards.

The game does it on purpose sometimes, I swear.

Aiming Cerberus at the raid is not a mistake. Said player is either a troll or Just does not flat out give a damn about their fellow players. Its MMO 101 Do not aim the raid boss at the raid unless there is mechanic that requires it, this is especially true with a raid boss with a cleave. There is No excuse for a vet player making such a balant and idiotic move..

I wouldn't say get rid of clemency. It has its uses but I will admit a lot of PLDs do abuse it. Killing the enemy is the best healing/mitigation one can do so yes it makes sense to save your MP for magic burst window...even more so when it heals you. At 90...Clemency should never even be on your mind because your mitigation and burst magic window not only heals you and does damage but will also give MP back. Between that and all your mitigations...I don't even think you need a healer.

However I've had moments when the healer drops and the boss is like 30%. Now I have a choice...and my choice is usually just finish the fight without the healer. Yes Clemency lowers MY DPS but dead DPS lowers group DPS as a whole more. Intervention helps with mitigation/healing for my allies but it's usually not enough to keep them alive if they goof a mechanic or raidwides happen often but Clemency heals not only the DPS but myself as well since I get a portion of what they healed for. If it crits...it's practically a Benediction for the DPS. I'll take away a single GCD for damage away from myself to keep my DPS up and going.

Clemency is situational...but the situation I've laid out has happened to me more than once so personally I'd like to keep it. I just wish other PLDS didn't use it like a crutch.

There is a lot of relatively low (50-70) tanks in DF who doesn't seem to have a clue how healers work.

They just dash ahead getting constant chip damage and get out of healing reach. Enemy tailing them stops for a AOE, I have to wait that and the tank just runs ahead.

When I get where the tank is they have about 10% health left. It is a challenge to try to recover with some lvl 50-60 healer that isn't WHM.

The pull size isn't the problem, it's not waiting for the heals.

Imo, you probably want to use sprint so you can always catch up to the tank. If there's an AoE in the way, just run through it unless it's lethal. 9 times out of 10, you can run through the aoe fast enough. On the off chance you don't, taking one or two hits is okay as a healer since you have potent AoE healing and all mobs should be aggro'd to the tank rather than you so no auto attacks will land on you even if you don't heal yourself for a while. It's more detrimental to delay catching up to the tank because you not catching up to the tank means you are the one delaying the heals instead. It becomes a problem on your end rather than a tank's end, especially if they aren't sprinting. Even if you were to lag behind a bit, they shouldn't be taking nearly as much damage to be reduced to 10% HP unless you're super far behind.

If they are sprinting though, they should be nowhere taking as much damage to reach 10% HP. Mobs can't run faster than a player during sprint. Sprint is an effective mitigation tool on its own during big pulls to prevent chip damage.

If you're playing Sage then the tank shouldn't be able to dash out of your reach since you have Icarus. If it's level 56+ and your tank is a war then they don't really need to wait on you either, raw intuition will hold them over easily until you get within reach.

Make sure to throw your pre-pull regen/shields up and just try to keep up. Every healer has a handful of small instant heals by level 50 except for AST who is sitting on only essentially dignity, but you don't shouldn't reach the point where you need WHM's Bene just to save them from dying.

Tanks in general shouldn't be losing their HP that much by the time you reach them either, assuming they're sprinting and you're not. Either they're not using mitigations or something else is happening.

This is the thing though, its this and the "something else" is often gear. There are plenty of tanks who attempt w2w because thats whats expected of them but arent geared up for it, or dont know how to use their mitigations properly.

Can't heal when running. Stop to heal, they run out of range. And finally, they use the tank jump and get even farther out of reach. So I donknow how to sprint.

Gear does make a lot of difference. Even with ilvl caps, the difference between a tank in gear that barely clears the cap and a tank that's at the cap is insane.

At level 50-60+ every single healer has at least one healing spell that they can use while moving. WHM's lillies might be GCD but they are still instant cast that can be done while you're moving. Worse case scenario is if you're AST and you pop essential dignity and have lightspeed on cd, or you're a whm at the start of the dungeon without any lillies yet.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt earlier and now I'm questioning it...

Likewise for healers who don't know how tanks work. I would even go as far to say that any healer who really wants to separate themselves from the mediocre to spend a good amount of time tanking in this game. Vice versa for tank mains to play healers. When you understand the strengths and limitations of each role, you're increased awareness just makes you a better player overall.

With that out of the way, I understand your pain. However, there is an expectation for tanks to play exactly like that in dungeons. They are even designed to do it. Sprint, gap closers, plethora of mitigation abilities, ease of gathering enmity on all targets, and an invuln. Tanks are just not playing up to their strengths if they are not doing/using these things.

SGE's ability 'Icarus' has been godsend for me, and I wish the other healers also had closers, but this ability by itself gives SGE a distinctive advantage in dungeons on par with WHM's holy. Ok, maybe not that good, but it's still a very good tool to have for multiple situations. If you're not SGE, then a good rule of thumb is to keep sprint on CD during trash pulls.

I wholeheartedly agree, I think everybody should try at least one character from a different class. That was one of the reasons I started Gunbreaker which I have at lvl 82 atm. I know very well how easy it is just to get lost in the speed and just go ahead and forgot all about the team behind. I've had to learn a rhythm of pulling and stopping to wait so people can catch up.

Yeah, had I used SGE Icarus would've definitely helped with it. Or WHM which has lower level instaheals available. I was playing AST though. I did use everything I had whenever I was able to catch up with the tank but single regen wasn't enough to keep him up. I don't think he died once - or maybe just once? - but I just don't like the habit of being forced to emergency heal and drop everything else to rescue someone's play when it's a style instead of accident, accidents and mistakes happen and that's ok. I have met a lot of great tanks who rhythm it much better without me having to work my ass off but there are these tanks who also don't seem to have anything else but Rampart as their mitigation option.

Sure, you think I didn't use Essential Dignity? Not enough tho. When you get close enough to the tank to use, it heals maybe 400 potency. Or you can wait that he drops more to get a bigger heal but then he may be out of reach already? At the end of the run he is so out of it nothing really helping and even spamming Benefic II heals less than he is losing by the second.

But you can keep your benefit of doubt. I know what I did and I think I did everything I could. I could've sprinted sooner, sure, but when you start from behind already catching is a challenge.

Ya'all know that proximity AoE in Copied Factory's 3rd boss where the platform get destroyed then flings entire alliance to another one? What's your routine while waiting this to happen? For me and my friend, we usually RP walk to the right corner of the platform then either /dance or /sit over there until something happens.

Today we had a new guest. A bunny tank, the DRK from alliance C. They joined us... only to slip off the edge to the abyss. Should we feel sorry? Should we laugh. I'm (not) sorry, I couldn't stop myself xD We cracked hard when that happened. When they respawned I see somebody /console'd them on chatbox.

The only solution to this is to simply glue yourself to your tank better or at least don't stick too far back out when current pull about to finish. Sprint together, maybe keep it sync'ed with your tank but that's not always possible. Personally I always run a little bit ahead of the tank to anticipate sprint unsync'ing.

Chip damage during mid pulling aren't normally heavy enough that a mere refreshing instant Regen/Asp Benefic couldn't fix unless it's a paper geared tank or some duty like Bardam's Mettle.

Woah. It was Bardam's Mettle! It was the highest level dungeon available to my AST! But... how? Why?

But yeah, maybe I will have to try to get closer to the exit right before a fight ends and try get a head start. If only I'm able to remember that.

That dungeon just has mobs that hit harder than most do and honestly once you get past the first boss then the rest is easy.

Got Void Ark in Alliance Raid roulette while trying to level up my NIN. I'm terrible at playing melee... I channeled my inner greed beast and messed up pretty bad on the first boss - along with most people in every Alliance. I was somewhat able to manage at the rest with some Vulnerability Ups, apart from the last where the healers in our Alliance collapsed at some point and I died to something (don't remember since this was yesterday).

I watched some DNC in our group randomly shoot out a useless LB3 in that first attempt which did barely anything apart from ruffle my temper - when it's a Raid where you can see people dying quite a bit, it should be obvious to keep aside the urge to be flashy and leave it for the Healers. Alliance C still had 2 healers and had others begging for an LB3 - after it was a full wipe they were explaining in chat that theirs was used up. We made it the second attempt - I think Diabolos isn't that bad for melees so I don't remember getting hit much.

As a healer I've always loved that raid because I know I'll finally have some work cut out for me. I think the last time I ran it I did over 30 raises and to the point I was raising other alliances healerss cause they kept biting it too. Thin Air was the MVP.

Just finished a Ridorana as DRK where my AST gave me most of the melee cards, and I saved them with TBN on the final boss when that stack marker was on them, and only myself and 1 other person(who died from it) were stacked. We were both pleasantly surprised that they lived through that.

Healed Dead Ends with an undergeared PLD (relic and an assortment of garbage accessories including one 80 ring)... and the DPS weren't helping with their slip-ups. I didn't notice just how squishy they were until they KO'd on a big pull and then they didn't bother to adjust their pulling after that. I would've been understanding and less salty about it, but it wasn't even their first run through. :rolleyes:

They should make an achievement like in Bozja for Raising some hundreds of people, bet it'd be gotten in a week of daily runs! :D

Isn't there one for raising people outside your alliance? Can't remember if it works in AR, but I know I completed it during Anemos back in StB.

As for a story from me...got Dead Ends in 90 roulette yesterday and our SCH died on every boss, anywhere between 60% and 40% remaining on it's HP. The rest of the party was me as RPR, GNB, and DNC. None of us died throughout the remainder of those fights even.

Leveling my alt through roulettes on Dynamis has been quite the experience so far...

My alt's a level 33 WHM with a brand spanking new job stone and big, beefy (/s) ilvl of 31. Leveling roulette throws me into Halatali, and I'm the lowest level in the party. (Ugh, why a level 20 dungeon when the lowest level character is 33? ;-; )

With us is a GNB, SAM, and NIN, who was apparently in quite the hurry. The NIN pulled ahead the entire dungeon, which is whatever, although she never brought anything back to the tank. (The tank didn't seem to mind?) Since the first stretch of the dungeon is pretty straightforward, I was able to keep her up by curebotting. Not ideal but manageable (who needs MP anyway? :D)

Then we get to the trash before the second boss. Once again, the NIN pulls ahead. And pulls every mob up to the boss. Even sprinting and jumping down the ramp, I can't keep her in line of sight long enough to get enough heals off, and she dies. The tank is trying to regain aggro on 15+ mobs, I'm rezzing NIN, and poor SAM is probably wishing for either Fuga or death. They get the latter. My Cures and Medicas can't keep up, and we wipe. When we respawn and go back through, well over 50% of the mobs are still there. And NIN still hasn't learned her lesson, so she starts sprinting off and pulling again. Tank and I sprint with her, white knuckling it, and we survive just in time for GNB to try the Thunderclap Guivre phase skip strat that popped up again on the FFXIV reddit recently. (Spoiler: it didn't work either of the times they tried it.)

Anyway, I was chalking this up to be a cursed--but blessedly silent--run. There were no hellos, no comments on the NIN's pulling or the wipe.

Until the NIN says "why are you opening chests fr"

Please note that I've only opened chests that we're already passing (not going out of my way to get optional chests) and when I could do so without risking lives. So I say "because I want the gear?"

NIN: "for what tho"

ME: "seals?"

NIN: "bruh it's like 5 seals stop it"

(A side note: I'm trying to help level my new very small FC so we can get housing on the first cycle. So yes, I want all the seals I can get, even if it's not a lot. However, this is more context than I'm going to type mid-boss fight.)

ME: "why do you care?"

No response to that, probably for the better. Anyway, I win most (but not all) of the gear, so I apparently wasn't the only one who wanted stuff...

Finally, after the final boss, NIN says: "thanks for wasting my fucking time healer, blacklisted" and dips before I can finish skipping my cutscene.

And you know what? It's mutual. :D
