Encountered a bard last night in Bardam's mettle that did not bother to dot anything at ALL while they sang, and even then they barely sang.
'twas an archer in disguise, which made my mnk alt sad.

I was just in a run of the Dead Ends with a GNB, a DRG and a RPR. With me as SGE.
The GNB refused to use any cooldown other than Rampart and Heart of Corundum, especially when it was clear that his wall-to-wall pulls were getting spicy.
I point it out the moment we get to Ra-La and ask him "Tank, I'm sorry but could you maybe use Nebula or Camouflage and not just Rampart and Heart of Corundum? Those skills are really good and would even help me not run out of resources fast"
To which tank replied... "I am using them".
...listen here you little classless catastrophe. I don't care if you're using them or not, the whole dungeon's behind us and I needed to conjure up heals out of Dynamis to put up with you. I don't care if you're gonna keep on being my problem or somebody else's problem. But let me tell you this. As a healer, I ALWAYS pay attention to what my tank is using, because it's not just a "me" job. I can handle most tanks just fine as any healer, Scholar included, but when they do the absolute bare minimum and then have the gall to say I'm blind, now that I do not tolerate. I don't care who you are, I WILL shove that Gunblade where the Little Sun don't shine!
And Radovan, stop giving Gunblades willy nilly, not everyone deserves one. The legacy of Bozja is NOT WORTH THIS.
...so I just replied with "No you have not. I have been looking at your HP bar this entire time. You haven't used them." and carried on my way...
*siiiiigh*
RPR kept just eating all the AoEs. Fun.
And the DRG did also eat some AoEs and often forgot mechanics but at least he was a sport about it. They did just ignore positionals completely, but I honestly can't blame them when so much keeps going wrong.
And it's not like I'll deny I caused a wipe once by standing in the bad myself :p oops. But at least I admitted it by saying "aw hell, my bad sorry xD"
I swear, I ran out of resources both in mob pulls and in bosses. Like, what the actual hell. I'd be fine with inexperienced players, I'm even fully willing to explain mechanics. I'd be 100% fine with mismanagement of cooldowns, because it at least shows me you're trying and probably are willing to learn. But you're level 90 and you still haven't put it together that there are buttons you press? Why is it okay for me to conjure up heals and be creative, pressing every button I have (Zoe, Rhizomata, Krasis, even bloody Pepsis!) to heal you, but it's not okay for you to press a freaking Nebula when you wall pull?
And then you give your healer lip?
I blame Radovan.
My internet connection glitched and I was in the middle of a dungeon everything was going fine, got back in typed in :sorry guys my internet went down: only to have the healer say welcome back! Then they vote kicked me. I thought wow I have no control over internet hiccups, how rude.
I witnessed this happening few das ago in Fell Court of Troia. PLD tank dcs early in first boss. No biggie, we pushed through. As a SCH, I was already excited to start the next pulls without tanks... only to see a vote dismiss happening right after the boss ends. The moment I vote'd "No", that PLD came back very briefly (about 3 seconds) before getting booted out. That... felt very bad...
Moving out of aoes is for chumps, getting eaten is for real men!

*cries in trying to level mch*
That many empty bars reminds me of the WoD saturday when almost everyone(only 6 or 7 remained) got disconnected right at the Atomos. As people slowly trickled in, others who weren't disconnected ended up leaving. We had probably half the people and dis the Atomos fight, and were still missing a few here and there for the remainder.
Though, it has been quite a while since I've seen that many dead in an alliance raid.
I had quite the night last night. I was playing healer cause I felt like healing. 2 of the 3 runs were just absolute trash.
1. Dead Ends - Tank doesn't know what role abilities are. No rampart, no Arms Length...nothing. He is wall to wall and I'm struggling to keep him alive. Well he goes down and the Dancer gets the aggro...and they run ALLLLLL the way back to the start. I can't get a single heal on them cause I was blowing through my oGCDs to try and fail to keep the tank alive. I should not blow through 6 aetherflow abilities on a single pull. I'm even doing Emergency Tactics + Adloquium + Lustrate combo which is damn near a Benediction and the second I cast that all those heals are just ate through before I can cast my next spell. So we wipe from all of that...and wipe at the 1st boss but I'll admit that was 100% my fault cause I forgot that you have to esuna the debuff or it kills you outright.
So after that and another tank refusing to use defensives I was like "Look at me...I'm the tank now" and I switched to PLD for the rest of the night.
I leveled PLD passively just using leveling/MSQ roulettes so I never go to see it in action at level 90 and I gotta say....PLD feels REAL good at 90. I may put away my Unga Bunga Axe for the sword and shield because even though WARs have their "once in 25 seconds I can Benediction myself"...PLDS just don't take damage at all and also have great regen abilities they can put on themselves or other people...Clemency isn't even needed anymore unless Healer bites it early.
Or instead of using Esuna, people just have to evade the mecanic correctly. Doing this, you don't have to esuna at all.
And I agree on the PLD Part, it's not like they can "full" them selves like the war do, but he can use Shiltron (And the HoT that's inside that abilities) much more consistenly without being punitive at all. PLD possess a good defense and good healing abilities, especially during Resquiescat Window.
So, I just got out of a LoTA where I saw a mechanic I hadn't seen since my early days of XIV(so back in 2015!)...also had a level 90 DNC in there that NEVER used Standard Step.
The mechanic in question, the "bacon strips" on the final boss. For those unaware of the bacon strip mechanic, it's red line AoEs that are basket woven, but they have white accents in the line making it look somewhat like meaty bacon with strings of fat in it.
Ran Ktisis with my PLD and Ladon managed to do the same double breath pattern every time where the safe spot was in front. I've never seen 3 people with 4 stacks in something like that. :o
Continuing with PLD, I got P2N on raids. On the 2nd tank stackbuster, the rest of the party was nearby and someone actually walked into the stack. I tried to shoo them off, but it was too late. I laughed way too hard at that. :D
These past days I have not been playing that great but man getting screwed twice in 2 dungeons with Superbolide depresses me.
1 in Dusk Vigil at start of w2w, Scholar arrived a bit late but it was a good reason to use the invuln, the moment I use.... dead and had a quarter or so of health which means I got hit a millisecond or so in between the hp drop and invuln i guess?? Healer apologised but it wasn't his fault.
Same thing happened in Tower of Zot, this was mostly a mistake of mine with bad mitigations cycling but I still had Superbolide to make up last pull, still died while doing bless server ticks, would have not happened with the other 3 tanks.
These past days people have been apologising to me while I am the one making the mistakes, I feel like dying inside lol
I don’t play red mage. Is verraise one of those locked behind a class quest spells? Maybe they hadn’t unlocked it yet?
Oh, hey, new here. So this must be pretty important and 100% valid for me to login here, right?
So. I've so had it with Extreme Trials always - ok, 60 % of the time - having some know-it-all mentor who just won't stop talking. I'm not there to talk, I'm there to play. I know there a new players but these chatterboxes start giving advice before anyone has even asked. And then they go on and on, explain everything once, twice, three time and when we finally get to play and die, they do it over again. So I start a ready check. Everybody is ready - except for you know who. So everybody would be willing to play instead of them. And when we go on, they keep chatting and saying "hey, let's discuss", "hey, can we communicate".
And then they put all these marks on the playing field, some are useful, most of them are not. Couple of times there have been so many marks A, B, C...Z that it's hard to see player characters or enemies from it. And then they explain to newcomers how if A, go to F, if B go to G unless A>B, then go to H.
I get it, if people say they want advice, you can give it. I can give it too, but I'm not pushing it onto them. If people fail, we can go through the mechanics but not spend 5-10 minutes on it everytime we're inbetween tries. I'm just there doing the damn book, please let me. And I'm in no rush, if it takes 10 tries for newcomers to get it, it's fine, been there. But it's the endless taaaaaalk that drives me crazy. And the markings.
Im on the fence about this. You often get experienced players like Mentors who I sometimes wonder whether they have synced it before rattling on about the strat. However, Ive not been in a group who cleared with first timers who didnt discuss strategies - either from someone who knows or blinds figuring it out.
This is a recurring topic in these forums, usually from the perspective of mentors. People that have cleared this and end up running into these trials on mentor roulette want to just help people get through them once. If any new people want to do blind prog or something, party finder is the better place for that. It's easier when everyone is on the same page about how they want to run the fight and if you run the timer out, you can go back in with the same people to try again. Unfortunately, the game doesn't point you in that direction and the Western crowd in general doesn't seem to push for that enough.
Markers are important in extreme and savage content, especially when running the latest duties. Unlike the normal / hard fights, these are more structured like learning a dance routine.
The vast majority of mentors are not qualified to assist with EX trials to begin with.
Practically the reason why most honest to ____, helpful, and instructive players avoid the Crown until they actually know what it is their doing.
I for example while could easily take either Crown.
I don't, and it ain't cause I wouldn't want to work towards a goal and help out players.<like I do in Eureka, even if I miss an NM or two. or spawn them, and go to prep the next, as they call PT>
I haven't done an honest to Sync Extreme, or Raid.[and I'll never take the Crown til I have done most Competently enough to actually help people]
It's sad that many who do take the Crown, or in an out of content, aren't there for the journey, and their goals at the end<or helping others as a laughable distant care>, but the Perceived Glory and Grandeur. Which is easily perceived as third rate 3d print.
Respects to those Mentors who do the title Justice. But that system needs to change.
Rather have a Black Crown, or as some said, a watering can icon instead.
I think you didn't read my comment fully. Like I said, it's fine to give advice to noobs. It is even fine to give it after failing. But, again, like I said, I don't think it's nice or kind or considerate to give it without anyone asking. Or tying to stop people from playing after they all say yes on ready check (except for the mentor). Or just chatting and repeating the same thing over and over again. If it seems that people won't get it and keep losing and won't listen to what some, what seems to me, self-important player is saying, I think it's time for him to leave the trial and let others fail another 10+ times.
Some people probably also want to go blind into Extremes without knowing a thing about it and want to find out the mechanics themselves. They have every right to do so even if it seems frustrating to other players. That's what party finder is for. Pushing your advice is never good.
Thanks for coming in here and explaining why mentors can never win and will always be the bad guy lol. They either are useless and NEVER HELP or, in your case, are know-it-alls that you never asked for help from. Use party finder already and you will never have to deal with a mentor in an extreme again.
And there really isn't anything inbetween?
Like...
"Hey, if anyone wants help, let me know"
Or
Not forcing your way of play onto others
Or
Know when to stop talking (for example, when everybody else says "go" on ready check)
Unsolicited is unsolicited. Rude is rude.
If you are queueing up through the DF for Extreme or Savage fights, chances are pretty good that a Mentor will be there. They are there to do one thing, and that is to help you clear, and then get out like everyone else. So yeah, you will most likely be getting tips and advice about the fight in question. It is not rude. It is trying to be helpful. These are endgame instances for their respective expansions, and they are usually no joke. If you wanted a blind run, that was probably not the place to do so. I would suggest making a PF for your specific standards. People can and do join for that sort of thing.
If you want a blind run go to party finder and state that.
Don’t join randoms that queued to actually clear and waste their time. At least one mentor WILL be queued with you in extremes if you go through duty finder, wanna know why? To help you clear. Mind boggling isn’t it? The nerve!
Just because someone explains mechanics doesn’t mean they have self importance, don’t mirror your own insecurities on them.
If they repeat the mechanics it’s because they are probably sick of dying to the same thing thanks to the same person.
Markings are also there for a reason, the reason is so you don’t run around like chickens with aoes under your feet killing the rest of the party.
YOU are in no rush, but you can’t expect that from the rest of the random party you know nothing about. Some people join to clear. Standing in their way because for some reason you like dying multiple times is what’s rude.
This may seem a stupid question, but what is this expectation that mentors are supposed to know every step of content (EX, Savage whatever) anyway? To me, Square is quite clear about what a mentor is supposed to provide:
1. Provide gameplay advise for new adventurers and other players
2. Be an exemplar for player etiquette
3. Invite new adventures to the Novice Network, and answer their queries in the chat channel
I suppose you could argue the gameplay advise but, to me, that is more general - use your mitigations, don't stand in orange ground markers, do stand in good ground markers etc. Not specific "in this EX trial, this is what you need to do". Mentors are there to guide, encourage and promote good play. Not be teachers and walk others through specific mechanics of every single fight in the game.
As a mentor, it is usually expected that one knows a thing or two about the game, especially about the jobs they actively play or the content that they do. However, I think it is unreasonable to expect any mentor to know or remember literally everything about this game. That is where a lot of people are mistaken about the system. Heck, the requirements for becoming a mentor are pretty lax anyway. They should be higher or stricter, but it is what it is I guess. Mentors exist (or they should) to help others when they need it, but that doesn't mean that they will be able to help with literally everything. All some can do is show other players the way, or point them in the direction of someone or something that can actually help with a specific issue. Having impossibly high expectations is a community issue more than anything.
Today I learned that, if one of your co-healers has Judgement Nisi on in A4, it is possible to spread the debuff to everyone else in the party. Had I not seen it, I probably would've wiped the party to trying to precast Succor for the raidwide only to see everyone in the party with blue Nisi debuffs from my co-healer whm that stayed with the group.
I decided to keep my distance. Ain't going into that group that didn't wash their hands.
Titan EX, four mentors, all DPS. You can guess which four people died during every pull.
