My life doesn't revolve around the game so the wait isn't a big deal. The patch cycle was already quite brisk compared to MMOs I've played in the past and Yoship's explanation for why it increased to four months, namely the amount of work required and giving the devs more time for their personal lives, seems reasonable to me.

They did this in 2.0 ( quest is actually still there ) to complete ifrit, garuda and Titan extreme and you get an additional currency for additional gear reward on top of what they dropped.

We know they can do it, and there is nothing wrong with people wanting to only do this type of content and ignore all the content below it, when you play the game long enough faceroll roulettes are boring.

If people won't accept normal content being a bit tougher then what it currently is, the better option is then to provide significantly more midcore content per patch.

Which makes it requiement to pay a sub. Dont make it isnt. For you its few pixels. For some others it means their place of comfort they are threatened to lose if they dont pay and visit often.

I completly understand why the system is there and I support it. Still see a lot of new bought houses that are empty, completly wasted. But its just the argument why some folks need to pay to still take a break, which is bs. Its costly penalty for taking a break and makes a lot of people anxious about decision between money vs they enjoyement in the game.

If the game had a system where if you didn't login for 45 days you lost all progress on your account, would you be ok with this? If you are bothered by this, then demolition and the limited housing system should also bother you.

Your argument is simply a "It's in the game so deal with it". Bad design in a game should be criticized :).

At least the music keeps hitting home runs.

I would be happier personally if they at least release the next step of relics sooner than to shove them to the butt end of 6.35 patch.

I can't answer the OP's question whether it's worth the wait or not because I didn't really "wait".

Granted, English is my 2nd language but I always thought this kind of expression meant some meaningful scarify has been made or at least some kind of opportunity cost was involved, so the end result needs to somehow justify that. But I don't really wait for anything, not like I made a vow of playing nothing else the last 4 months in "waiting" for the content or had to make some kind of investment for it to come out in 4 months.

I neither said that I'm ok with this nor that I'm not ok with this. All I said was that you can take a break regardless of if you pay the sub or not or having a house or not. Because a lot of people say "I can't take a break because I have a house". And that is simply not true.

What were you expecting then?

What could you have done to make it better?

Again, your argument is simply "Its in the game, so deal with it" and is just based on technicalities. It's like someone telling you "I can't keep my door unlocked because then a creep can just walk right in" and you replying "That doesn't stop you from keeping it unlocked though :p". There is no substance to that statement..

Nothing is stopping anyone from taking a break, and yes a break doesn't require unsubbing or not, but the game has systems to incentivize you to keep paying while on break, and systems that timegate content to arbitrarily extend its lifetime to keep people subbed. That is not good game design for the consumer :).

Most .3 MSQ's are short in nature, as they are ( well I wont use the word filler, more like continuation ) evolutions and setup for follow on story content. It was good and fun and I enjoyed it.



It was interesting, played as RPR, so yeah, agreed.



The content, the mechanics..and My God the music were worth every moment. The violin solos alone were absolutely wonderful, took me back to Lord of the Dance, absolutely joyous. The entire theme of these isnt serious ( well in one sense it is ) but as Soken said, the raid has a more festival / celebration theme, we arent fighting for some big bad, this is us and the Twelve, in a way they are testing us, to see how far we have come..loved every moment.

Funny that, I am finding LOADS to do, grabbed my Skysteel Fishing Rod yesterday ( yeah that was a slog but worth it), theres a lot of new crafting features and items...Im finding stuff to do easily. Not sure you remember, but YoshiP HAS said dozens of times to take a break and come back..you dont have to be here every day ya know :)



And yet..here you are. Aveyond, I get the feeling that it doesnt matter WHAT they do, you will still find fault. But thats you, I guess. Never have a kind word to say about the game..and yet, here you are...still.

This will be my first expansion with this game and I will say that these patches so could use more in terms of content to keep people playing the game until the next major patch drops. Let's be honest yoshi does not want you taking breaks from the game because that means you are going to cancel which in terms affect his paycheck so he wants to actively paying your sub and playing the game.

A bit disingenous (man I'm starting to hate saying this word, its so overused) here. It has its own predatory retention practices in the form of housing demolition and animal guilt. The latter doesn't affect everyone, but those that do will feel compelled to stick around just because of their island critters. SE knows this. The former at least serves a purpose outside of player retention, but it does none the less serve as a means of keeping people from leaving for too long.

These two things are far less egregious than the practices of some other companies, but they are none the less very intentional.

True but how many people in this MMO can you realistically say they own a house? The risks of owning one is being dedicated to its commitment of maintaining it, which isnt required and its entirely optional to own a house if were talking about in-game progression. Personally this doesnt change my stance that the current system SUCKS HARD AND WE NEED INSTANCED HOUSING SERIOUSLY, but trying to say that housing is a point of retention doesnt hold much water as an argument due to the fact that its resource is premium and isnt a requirement for game progression. Again, owning a house under this limited system is an agreed commitment between the player and the game for staying subbed, and not everyone is willing to do so.

Also this is the first Ive heard of using the island critters as an argument for retention. Last time I check they dont require maintenance at all, same with your crops as they wont wither, nor your critters run away or die from not feeding them.

Both of these points arent good for this argument.

As somebody who does not play multiple games at once:
Yes, this patch came with some of the best content we have had in a while, but at the same time it was short lived.

Content needs to last an entire patch cycle, not be cleared in a day and leave you with 3 months of dead content.

The lack of an exploratory zone, and island sanctuary getting a weeks worth of afking to level to 12, is a kick in the face to people that want to actually PLAY the game.

Criterion, a patch later, is still dead content with no reward structure or reason to complete it.

XIV needs to evolve past the 'casual content release' that it has stuck to for the last 9 years and become a better game for everyone. The 'Unsub if you don't like it' mentality is killing my love for this game.

To answer the OP - Yes. Absolutely. I loved it :)

I play a few different games, and only spend a few hours a week playing FFXIV. I still haven't done all of the Variant paths, or even tried Criterion or done anything with IS yet (all things I'm looking forward to finishing/doing). And that's just EW. I'm still going for my last ARR relic weapon (Ninja), getting FATE rewards in both EW and ShB, Sightseeing Log in EW and ARR, leveling a few crafting classes, and there's still more I just don't feel like typing because the list would become so long.

The new stuff in this patch was neat. I liked the final two Fiends in the MSQ, and the Alliance Raid in particular was amazing, easily worth the "wait" (which is simply a standard patch cycle and better/more consistent than other games like WoW). The boss fights added new mechanics and were a fun increase in complexity compared to some past raids, and the music was - in a word - exquisite.

Another patch I'm very much pleased with, thank you.

And to be honest, its fair that you feel that way. But as someone who plays multiple games and .....multiple alts, I think the patch cycle is fine in of itself. I dont like when the game tries to force its time on yourself for the sake of retention. Or at least, not as much where its blatant about it. It already does this in the game such as getting current raid gear, time gating IS progression and custom delivery/tribal deliveries etc. I wouldnt want anymore any of these systems in this game. I find myself enjoying this game a lot more when the content is spread out like this and it helps me plan ahead of time on tackling some of them too. Sides, we'll be getting more grinds for our relic weapons within a future 6.3 update.

And before I hear people saying "exploratory zones" and such, let me tell you that blazing through Eureka or Bozja literally took me about a week and a half at most to get through. Nearly not enough time for the people crying for lasting content yet these are used as the prime examples of what this game used to be as a "good thing". No matter what, people like myself will blaze through the grinds, the raids, the dungeons etc and we'll still be pulling an Oliver Twist and ask for more. At this point why even bother with yourself about it when the game isnt designed like this?

Btw sorry you ARE encouraged to take breaks from XIV. That whole "but mah house" defense doesn't work. Sorry bud. You can take 6 week breaks and not have to worry about losing a thing. And even then you get into housing KNOWING the rules and how scarce it is. The onus is on you and how important said house is. If you have trouble logging in every 6 weeks to keep a house imo you don't deserve it anyways. Best to give it to a more active player.

Enjoy the game and the content and I appreciate all the devs do for us. Lots coming in a few weeks still. Been doing this for years and the formula has been pretty much the same for the point of view of patch cycles.

2 - Replace the EW story with one where Garlemald is the main focus
3 - Restore Zodiark to full power
4 - Make traditionally-masculine main characters unlike guys like G'raha Tia which are seen by some as effeminate and meek

Having new zones to discover, make them more than just MSQ/FATE backstage, go away from FATEs and have something like Fail Wars 2 with actual live events with mobs invading or a big world boss. With consequences if players help or not. It would make the whole zones more lively.

At the start of the expansion, everybody did FATEs. Now the zones are dead and the game went back to lobby lode, queuing in Limsa between some femroe ERP and then back to your instance.

Much better than the «get a story bit, a dungeon and go back to sleep son».

1 - People like the Scions, so just killing them off is both a Dumb and Bad idea. Regardless how you might feel about them, its not good writing to just kill them off and replace them.
2 - Replacing EW Story is dumb. HOWEVER, they could have/Should Have Expanded on it. I agree the story and pacing is abit rushed, Garlemald definitly deserved alot more then it got, and the Final Days should have been abit bigger. This expansions conclusion should have been the 2nd Arc / Post Game. Maybe with a different / shorter version of our Current Post game as the Pathway towards 7.0
3 - I agree actually...even though I personally loved what they did. I loved that Twist and reveal of Bigger Plans.
4 - Really dont care about this. I just want good characters, I dont care how they look (even if Id love a Hrothgar) and I like the Scions myself. If they are still here, they still are relevant. Its not like we never get new characters anyway.
5 - To bad, Raha is Love, Burger is Life. I like the Food Scenes and I love the Whole Fun scenes where we bond with the cast. Many others enjoyed it to.
