I'm slightly disappointed by hamlet defense too but I wasn't expecting much from it.
I don't feel much of a "defense urgency" when the waves are like... 4 beastmen? lol
And why are the NPC front line guards archers...?

FFXI did have a character draw limit which seems to be the case in XIV as well right now; it's something Yoshi's mentioned wanting to address for 2.0. Although I have to say I dont recall ever being hit by a mob in Besieged or Campaign that I couldn't see on-screen. I also don't recall it being a major complaint among the players. Not saying it didn't happen, just that I don't recall it really being a major issue.
As far as being instanced or not being the issue, I think it can be fun or lousy whether it's instanced or non-instanced. My thing is mostly about them not (ab)using instancing to the point that activities that could (and arguably, should) be more about bringing players together in a community sense being instead separated into individual "bubbles". Something like Besieged or CB would not have been as fun as it was, on the scale that it was, if those events had been instanced and split up among smaller groups.
I like it, it's a fun time. I also really like getting anima back from it!
OP doesn't know what he's talking about. Hamlet is fine.
Love how he thinks because he was in the beta he thinks he can throw his weight around as if it means something.
Welcome to the internet. Nobody cares.
OP should change the topic to "you failed ME with Hamlet Defense" I get what star was saying as I personally like it as well. Sure there's some things that may need tweaking and stuff they could add to improve upon but isn't it that way with all new things... and hasn't SE done that so much already. Just wait Hamlet will be uber awesome before you can delete this thread.
yeah it is SE fault , its a hell of bad design its just a over done instance with strict access. #1 in design in anything is to keep it simple. and i dont mean skill level just to play.Quote:
Wait, so SE is at fault because nobody is doing Hamlet Defense in your server?
imho the hamlet defense is fine, i can understand having this kind of events shrinked to their lesser form because of game engine and server troubles, just remember the garleans invasions we had a few weeks back before the patch was release everyone was laggy some others crashed everytime,
i hope when we get a better engine to have a massive hamlet defense events, i would love to see those in open fields, like if you're guarding something you should be outside the walls, not letting the enemy enter, that could help in making wider areas for battle, it doesnt matter if it isnt open world, i hope they add a repair feature for the times when hamlet fights are on cooldown, like fixing gates, buildings, make the traps more visible, make obstacles, etc.
I hope i can get to see up to 50 players (just a round number) at the same time, fighting big waves of enemies, make the first ones easier so we can bash em and feel like gods lol and keep making every wave harder until we get the boss, i would love to see a big bad ass primal (ifrit, garuda atm) fighting with their respective tribe at some points of the battle but not all the time so we get the surprise now and then, or if the attackers are garleans some big machines like the ones that we saw at the main story CS and some of those cool machines that they showed on limsa quest in this patch.
One more thing, i know we should learn to walk before running but i would love to see an assault event, where you go to an outpost or enemy village, you get some CS and focus on rescue missions, like NPC sellers with rare stuff, like some of you can remeber the chocobo guy at Ahrt Ugah or whatever is written, NPC's that can help a lot in certains ways to every ppl, well no matter whats the objective get a boss fight at the end, make different bosses for every area so we can have a fresh event, making those bosses random and some of them have good items on them like gear, and make them just run away when defeated so we can get more lore about them and more stories with key enemy characters, i dont get it why if we kill a boss he keeps returning, they should just call retreat and reappear when theyre recovered lol.
Well those are my 2 cents, and it doesnt matter if someone isnt a veteran ideas are equally good Lurex
I really like how hamlet concept is and how it incorporate all disciplines, but the needs to grind and hoping for RNG to side with you is just a major turnoff.
It's not too bad, though the 8 man requirement is a major turn off for me.
hopefully when 2.0 comes out its world wide and not limited to 8 man and let you be in a world group when you talk to the npc, they really need to add conquest tally during the 50 hours so you have something to challenge then the blood shead during the 25 hour fighting in all the areas like campaign from ffxi.
dol & doh should be able to continue to repair npc & gather resources while in battle.
I think Hamlet is pretty fun, but I was super disappointed when I found out it was more 8-man instanced content. Hoping 2.0 will deliver some open-world stuff in the style of hamlet.
This.
I guess SE are just trolling us.
I agree, however both ofthem had their limits I believe Campaign was limited to 64 people (signing up to the NPC) and Beseiged was an instance similar on scale to Dynamis I suppose.
I do agree that the lack of large scale fights is disappointing but the instanced aspect of it isn't the issue really, if 6 full parties could enter the same hamlet fight it would be much better, I guess we can only hope they plan this for 2.0.
Even still, 64 people in Campaign battle was still a good deal better than 8, though. Plus there were multiple CB's happening all the time in several different zones, so if you weren't at one, you could be at another. I know some people had their favorites.
I don't know if I like the idea of it being a requirement for full parties to go in. I kinda like the idea of it being x number of people total (similar to CB) and then let people group up if they want, etc. Though I suppose there might be people waiting to go in who would look for a group before-hand, kinda how they do with Besieged many times.
In any case, as long as it's kept more "open" and isn't instanced, I think that would be a huge improvement. Even if you can't or don't want to participate, it would be good fun to watch heh. CBs could be epic to check out sometimes. In Lineage 2, they have Broadcast Crystals for their sieges. Players can sit in town and watch a castle siege going on from a few different angles. Not as good (or dangerous) as being on the field, but you can see how things are going and it gets pretty epic sometimes.
I don't suggest a broadcast crystal for FFXIV, except for the arena type PvP when that's implemented; it's only necessary in L2 because if you're close enough to see the action in person, then you're on the siege field. And if you're on the siege field, you might be taken as a spy and dropped.
I think hamlets design is great. I think the 8 man cap is horrible.
Yea server limitations, but open world/larger cap would be alot better.
your right with hamlet defense being more open (come and go as u please) even if it has a limit like cb did in XI. there are more then one hamlets in the enitre world so it would work fine, plus we have GC and some ppl would only defend the one hamlet that GC represents. Some other ppl dont care and would do any hamlet under attack reguardless of its GC.
maybe if SE changes it in 2.0 (hopefully)we could have a limit of 100 ppl in one battle should be possible with new servers and new graphics engine. As of this moment we dont really have any content thats a similar set up to CB in XI, after 2.0 it would be great to solo and join/leave battle as you please, or work together wilth random ppl, form light parties or even full parties maybe even alliances to take down mega boss for best reward. each perosn (casual/midcore/hardcore)could contrubite in their own way adding up to a team effort if they are in a party or a individual effort when they solo, all to get rewards from the battle accordingly. just want to point out solo player can only get so much out of the battle while a group can get more due to the fact that they can do more then a soloer. either soloing or together with a team, players all contribute to a common goal of victory and rewards!
I suppose it's alright... Although truthfully I haven't touched it since the first night it went into offensive mode.
I am compelled to comment on the archer line.
In any combined forces army (fighting force that uses more than one weapon, yes i know, it might be hard to believe, but at once time you outfitted an army with ONE weapon in europe.) you have defensive members on the front line. This is normally someone with a shield and some other weapon, possibly with a pike at their feet in the event of cavalry. Behind the shield bearers are pikemen, because they can weild their weapon through the shieldwall. behind the pikemen you have archers. archers are always behind cover if it is available and should always be behind shield bearers.
feel free to poke holes in this quick explanation that does not include ballistae, gunpowder, terrain weaponry/traps, etc.
I think the logic here is the players provide that line. The NPC defenders are supposed to be every day people who picked up bows and started shooting them. That's why they need your help in the first place.Quote:

I think hamlet defense sucks
but im glad that others enjoy it, maybe its just not for me!
I think Hamlet Defense is interesting, but it could use some improvements. I found getting some dark matter and prisms for winning a little disappointing.. I was expecting to get at least a few Grand Company seals per win, especially since the Caravan Escort has a Hamlet-Company link. :/
The other thing I'm not too happy about is the fact that (once again) low- and mid-level players are being neglected in terms of new content. Imo mid-level content is an absolute necessity right now, and it would have been interesting to make those players able to participate in the defense in a lower level instance. You could also make low level caravans and low level items to contribute during Prep Phase.
Ugh Beseiged at Whitegate, Aht Urhgan, FFXI was better then this or even the campaigns in the past zones from what I remember. I was expecting bigger, more MMoRPG like things from 2.0, but now I'm just dreading what it's actually going to bring us.
No one in their right minds is saying right now to their friends: "OMG look at what they added to FFXIV in this patch. Hamlet Defense is amazing. Hey, you need to come back right now and play this with me" NO ONE
It's freaking embarrassing.
Greetings everyone. Thank you for posting in this thread. We already have a thread largely devoted to discussing Hamlet Defense, and we will keep the dev team apprised of the suggestions raised here. Unfortunately, at this time we will be closing down this thread, but we encourage you to post in the other ongoing thread if you wish to continue discussing Hamlet Defense. Thank you and have a great day.
