What are the largest issues plaguing XIV currently?

Dungeons.
My least liked part; which is crappy because dungeons are my most favorite part of any other game. I learned the hard way that you have to know the dungeon beforehand or you get kicked, so I started watching videos. I wish they would just put the videos in the game with the tactics for new players because this easily the most frustrating part of the game, due to lack of socializing and "gotta get it done yesterday" mentality.

That's all I've got; I can't comment on the expansions I bought because honestly I doubt I'll even be finished with the main quest by the time my subscription is over and I just can't justify another month with no one to talk to.

Did you join a Free Company? That's where you're going to get your social interaction. It's true nobody really talks in dungeons, because they're just getting through the fight, and they'll usually be from another server, and you'll never see them again.

So join a Free Company. See who's recruiting (shouting messages in towns), talk to the people recruiting, find out what they're like. And if you join an FC and it's not what you hoped for, leave and join another. Free Companies are all about trial and error. There are definitely good ones where you'll find what you're looking for.

You shouldn't really need to watch videos for any of the ARR stuff. Most of it is relatively straightforward, and most people doing them now have done them before. If you're getting kicked, you shouldn't be. Are you telling the people it's your first time in? I've found people to be very forgiving if they know you haven't done the thing before.

The main quest is LOOOOOONG. There's a lot of filler. A lot of "quests" that are effectively just cutscenes. And a lot of weird little fetch quests. But the story is good. The dungeons and trials are great.

Yeah, you're not really getting any social interaction in dungeons.

Just like literally any other mmo that has a "press button the get into dungeon with random people" feature you're just there to get through the dungeon and be done with it, that feature is what slowly killed social interactions in dungeons for WoW back in WotLK after all...and that was in 2008. There is no "dungeon talk" in ESO, WoW, PSO2 or pretty much anything else with the same system of just putting random people together in a group.

yeah and you use those 3-4 months to do other things in the game or play other games instead. but if all you want to do is raid and that's it, well you're going to be disappointed.

So you want horrible RNG on top of RNG and run the risk of NEVER getting the drop ever? Because that's the other option. And people don't want that.. see all the videos and topics screaming at Blizzard for doing that to their endgame. Or Ubisoft for never sticking to anything and pissing off everyone because things change every other patch. D2 is literally unplayable because of this. So yes... I'll stick to what works then wanting rng on top of rng with more rng to add spice for more rng. Thanks.

Being able to work towards a specific piece of gear and knowing exactly how long it takes is great.


The problem is that the item itself isn't very exciting because it's just another piece of "has more stats than what I'm wearing" but this has nothing to do with how loot is acquired in this game. WoW players wish they would have our loot system back because they had it from 2004 to 2016 (arguably 2013 because the last raid in MoP already had Warforged items).

Feels like every day there's something about the UX that makes me die on the inside. For example, it would be cool if you could select multiple items at once for desynth or GC turn-in or whatever. The game has a lot of really stupid prompts in all the wrong places. The crafting UI disappears when you most want it to stay open. That kind of thing.

I didn't see anybody in the credits in charge of UX, which makes me wonder they just got UI designers to figure it out or worse programmers. Feels like it was designed by aliens and is constantly setting new players up for failure. I'd love to have some of the core interactions of the game made more smoothly. Maybe a small team comb old dungeons and make it less ?????. Like don't need to drop a key for a door a goobbue's spit away.

See, this guy gets it. The loot can be interesting and exciting and, most importantly, *memorable* without being super RNG.

If I say, oh... Ochiudo's Kote, Leaping Boots, Emperor's Hairpin, Byakko's Haidate, Sulfuras, Hand of Justice, Ashkandi, Talisman of Ephemeral Power... anyone who's played FFXI or WoW can probably look at that quick list and think, "ah, I remember that!" even if they haven't played that game in years.

Now let's look at... just about anything in FFXIV since the first tier. Heck, even the Relic weapons aren't particularly notable because they're just the same thing as every other weapon. The only distinct thing is how you acquire it, and not since Heavensward has even *that* been notable.

And that's really the only social interaction? That definitely settles my urge to not stick around.

A few thoughts:

Not enough content for mid-core gamers. Got three kids and a spouse. No time to form a static these days and do the raiding scene. That said a lot of the casual content doesn't really last all that long. Which ends up in me leaving after a few weeks to play other games until the next patch.

Crafting and Gathering are basically pointless due to the bot infestation on the MB. This is great for people buying at lower prices but really sucks for those of us that focus on crafting. It's impossible to compete with bots that are running 24/7.

The housing system is absolute garbage. I get that they want a neighborhood feel, but I don't even see my neighbors more than once a month as it is. Might as well just be completely instanced.

Agree on both of those. The bots are out of control gathering and market. Even ones that get reported never go away.

Housing I wish you could like, somehow force all the 'inactive' ones or something to their own district so it could feel like there are people around. (or put in a small rent system or something i dunno to clear out the forever inactives)

Most free companies out there have more than ten players, or even many small free companies will at least have enough active players online to have a conversation with. If you left the one free company, why not join another? There are always large FCs recruiting in the main city hubs like Ul'dah and Limsa. You can also search for free companies that are actively recruiting using the FC search in-game. Shop around and find the right group for you, then you'll have your desired social interaction.

To me, it sounds more like you might be having trouble finding social interaction in the game because you're not being super proactive about it. There are tons of people out there willing to play with new players and tons of FCs recruiting, but those players aren't going to automatically know you want their recruitment. In fact, over the years, FCs have definitely become quite discouraged from just sending random invites to players because no one wants to be spammed with constant invites. You'll need to reach out rather than just waiting around for a group to find you.

Same with dungeons. The general attitude in this game is that most people don't want advice or don't want the fights spoiled for them when they are new, so if you want advice in dungeons and fights, you'll have to be proactive and ask for it. People do talk in dungeons... if you talk to them first. :)

This game, has the nicest community I've ever experienced and ironically it's the most toxic game I've played outside of League of Legends. People are willing and able to help, but are too afraid. There's tools to improve but get misused and has become the cause for elitism in harder content. It's a carebear community with a safety net in place but every single carebear here has a loaded gun and are ready to aim and fire all lined up like a firing squad. Got advice? Keep it to yourself. Oh, see minor mistakes and want to help someone fix it after asking politely if you could give them some advice? Angry karen in your face with "I know what I'm doing, you don't pay my sub". It's ridiculous.... absurd really. It's like being in customer service where you see someone lost and offer to help but they get angry due to either being insecure or overwhelmed or something.

If you guys are lost, confused or having trouble in this game and are too prideful, shy, or embarrassed to ask for help.. the best thing to do is drop the pride and ask. We who enjoy helping others improve and like answering questions don't bite (unless it's some elitist). I'm not going to say I'm the most patient person but I lay things out clear as day and if you don't get things right away I won't hold your hand the entire time but guide you halfway. Let people who want to HELP, help instead of screaming for HELP to Square Enix Support about someone telling you how to play the game when really they were just offering advice whether it be solicited/unsolicited.

Also got a word for those who do like to help... if they don't want your advice don't give it. The less words spoken; less mistakes are made and that's from personal experience in-real life and in game. Take those words to heart brothers and sisters of the internet!

I saw someone said there's not enough content for mid-core gamers and I whole heartedly agree with this. This game lacks content and incentive for you to do things.

Yes, I would absolutely love having a reason to log in and have meaningful character advancement/progression outside the one regular activity every 6-9 months and possibly one worthwhile ancillary activity in an expansion.

I'll take a system where I can get tokens for some items but feel like I -need- to log in and make certain raids to get specific drops with a low chance, or to work on incrementally upgrading my character from normal gear to early raid gear to token+ higher end raid gear to best in slot, every raid update, over going "All we have to do is kill every boss 4-8 times and we all have best in slot and now we can do it for alts I guess" any and every time you ask me.

Had the first Nightbane, Dawn, Signet of Might, and Artisans Prize on my server. Have one of 2 or 3? Shield of Spiked Energy that ever existed mounted on the wall in my house. Took almost 3 full expansions to upgrade my leg slot (only because you couldnt kill Tunat until Omens hit, and he was the only place to get the 2 focus effects on the same slot).

Such a better system than everyone gets a token and wheeee coffers.

Though those devs wanted you to play their game and not play their game AND their competitors games at the same time.

I never had more than 2 MMO's installed at any given time until 14, where now I'm logged in to two or more at any given time, because thats how youre supposed to play 14.

The worst part is that they're so obvious. If someone would just log in and look, they would see this, because they don't even try to conceal it.

There's one super-obvious one on Lamia who sells all the end-game gear (and really anything else remotely pricey), and it takes a minute to figure out what they're up to. I'm sure it's the same on all servers. I haven't researched the other servers yet, but I'm going to, because if I can find even one where it's not this bad I'm out of here, my medium house be damned.

They're in a FC of 9 "players". No house, obviously. Generic name. One of them is all 80's in crafting, 1's in gathering, and 72 in ONE battle class (basically as high as you need to get to unlock everything you need to bot-craft), the other 8 "players" are leveled in ONE random battle class to 19 or 20 (i.e. to unlock market board/retainers). The crafter bot is online 24/7 in their apartment, and exactly one other "player" is ever online at the same time as that's how they rotate to undercut on the MB, because that's all those accounts exist for.

So we're talking 90 retainers among them, that's 1800 items they can sell on the MB, and they just cycle through the bot accounts to constantly undercut everything. And they will undercut no matter how low you go, even if it's to below-profitable amounts.

So you literally can't sell anything remotely valuable unless you just sit at the market board, catch the moment you're undercut, undercut in kind, and hope your item sells before they rotate that retainer's account back in to undercut you again.

I'm talking all the Neo-Ish gear, all the Aesthete gear, every glam weapon you can name (Moonlit, Shinryu, Sophie, etc.), Ironworks Crafting/Gathering gear, you name it.

I just wish we could talk about this stuff more explicitly so we could spread awareness and ask people not to buy from this account. I gotta believe most other crafters on the server know about this account.

Biggest issues I'm facing daily, in order of importance to me:

Gender-exclusive glamours - Hate it. Both the way items change appearance based on who is wearing them, and the inability to equip them at all. It's extremely disappointing

Inventory space/management - There've been improvements but there's still just not enough space for glamours and storage for crafting is tight. A more permanent solution for glam (like WoW's transmog wardrobe) would be ideal

Button bloat - Some jobs just have more abilities than are necessary, or that could easily be combined into one button for the sake of keybind space so that new ones could be added. Others feel similar enough that it doesn't make sense to have both

Would also like to see better methods of cross-realm communication. An increase on the CWLS member limit. And fellowships would be more useful if they were integrated with CWLS or FCs, but as stand-alone they're basically a throw-away recruitment tool.

Something else that came to mind was alternate classes gearing. For a game that lets you have everything in a single character, having weekly restriction on gear seems silly. What I mean is, while having a weekly loot restriction is good for gameplay longevity, the way it is implemented here is really dragging. It should be 1 piece of loot per week, per job, not per character. If you enjoy playing different classes the game gives you the middle finger on end-game unless you're lucky enough those classes share loot type.

I have 2 main issues, some people probably going to disagree on second one.

First one is gear. It’s pointless having all this gear if we’re all going to end up with Shire/Scaevan etc in the long run. Why not make a really viable choice between getting gear sets from a particular dungeon, a raid, tokens, quests, beast tribes, hunts etc. In general the rewards for all this content feel a bit pointless when you do a few roulettes and get tokens for something far superior.

Second one is the way dungeons are run by tanks. Not sure there’s much can be done and I know a lot of people just want to get the dungeon over with quickly, but I’m seeing terrible tanks pulling every mob because that’s how it’s done. As a healer, if I can’t even draw a card or cast a dot without the tank dying then it’s just stressful and not fun.

Not only that, but when you got those pieces of gear you were excited and felt you accomplished something. I remember the sheer joy of getting the Leaping Boots and Emperor's Hairpin.

How many times do you think people got out of their chairs and did a little happy dance or felt a feeling of accomplishment and pride when they got the deepshadow or yorha coat or aiming? How many people will still be talking about it 10 years later... You wanted to strut around town wearing them and your guildmates would even be happy for you, just as you were for them when they got a good drop.

I, personally have not felt these things in XIV since I got the Bahamut weapons or finished my relic in ARR. Honestly when 3.0 dropped and they both were worthless I felt more disappointment than I ever had before in an mmo.

- Fight design is built almost exclusively around the average dps player's experience. Tanking and healing gameplay exists as an afterthought. The dev team is afraid to let these roles have any sort of real value outside of a progressively shrinking raid dps contribution.
- There's very little two-way communication with the dev team. Most Q+A sessions focus on fluff issues instead of more challenging questions about gameplay and job design. Most feedback from us doesn't get translated up. Development team reacts too little, too late to player feedback. There's no sense that anyone on the dev team actually represents you or your input as say, a tank or a healer.
- Every expansion, abilities get arbitrarily ripped out of jobs for the sake of keeping a fixed amount of hotbar slots. Every expansion, you're playing a completely different job. Get a skill tree system or something.
- There are way too many jobs for the size of the development team that is looking after them.

As soon as the gearing process is done, there is nothing to do, at least for me. PvP got murdered, We get only 1 dungeon per patch, the Rewards of the unreal trial are ..... absolutely not satisfying. I started playing WoW again just to have SOMEWHAT decent PvP. Until there is a major new patch, i dont see anything to make me play this game more frequently again.

People believing that FF14 has the "greatest MMO community" ever. But it's just like every MMO community that exists. Just the passive aggressive nature of the average player is the main issue. Because you can't tell anyone they need to get a tiny bit better at the game, or you'll be reported for 'harassing them'. When I mean by better at the game is this: At least do more than the bare minimum. No one is asking you to run a marathon; Just at least you skillsets and aoe skills. That's it. But no one wants to be told to use their skills, because it's "MUH FEELINGS" or "OMG I'M BEING HARASSED OMG OMG". The average player doesn't want to improve or at least TRY.

This isn't a single player game; You're grouping up with other people. If you want to cause issues for a group or "Take it slow" in endgame dungeons (this is different when it's brand new Day-1 content, then people understand. I'm talking about when it's been around for weeks), get your own group. Don't inconvenience other strangers, because you don't want to try to learn or at least compromise with the party. People are too afraid to be reported to ask people, even it's "NICE AND POLITE" to actually play their class more efficiently. Cause you'll get 'reported' for hurting someone's fees fees. The ToS change is frankly why people can get away with pulling this dumb too. SE is just empowering them to do this. The reddit forum for FFXIV is just as bad. Let's coddle all the bad players that DON'T want to improve at all.

Vote kick needs a less cooldown timer kthx. That way I can boot people more often, because they don't want to try to adjust or work with the party at all. You can dislike or disagree with me on my views. That's fine. This is just how I feel after 5 years of playing.

honestly you can say this until you queue for mt gulg on a dps, and your dps partner doesnt use any AOE skills.
I had asked them nicely, to help AOE 5 minutes earlier they still didn't.
So after 20 minutes when you're ONLY AT THE 2ND BOSS, do you not hit a boiling point and want to vote kick or just log out?

People who play like this are detrimental to others' experiences. So i don't think its fair to just write off votekick or vote abandon as a "tantrum" when the run is this cancer.

But out of all the dungeons you have ran, how many times have you encountered this issue? It's not very likely because this is not the norm, but the bad experiences stick with us more.

That's my point.

It happens (both in game and irl I might add), but it's no so rampant that it's detrimental to the entire experience of the game. You just got randomly placed with one of the few bad apples. Vote kick or drop and go about your day.

I don't get it.

Are you trying to dismiss their concerns simply by claiming they're a "small vocal" group (which is bad) or are you admitting that the majority of the playerbase is what they're claiming?

I am saying that the people that make our experiences bad by refusing to use skills or being the "you don't pay my sub" type of player or crying about difficulty and asking for nerfs are a small but very vocal and loud group, which is why they seem to be more prevalent than they are. Especially if you read the forums a lot, which is about as bad as if you spend too much time on reddit.

They give examples but when we run hundreds of dungeons and see this only in a handful at most. Condemning the entire population of the actions of the few is unreasonable. Which is why I am just asking to reflect on all the other hundreds of good runs and experiences you have in game instead of focusing on the few. If you let 1 jerk ruin your experience you are going to miss out on the hundreds of other players who will make it amazing.

Hence, vote kick, drop and move on with your day. And if you see the entire population of the game as a problem, the issue may not be with the entire population.

I would say it's a tie between low res textures, PS4 limitation, RMT.

Most of the time, like 3 from 5 runs. We just don't notice it because the other dps/healer is picking up their slack. Or you don't notice the lack of heals or tank cooldowns because youre a dps. If we would have a parser(because without it you can't see said person spamming only 1 button /sarcasm), we could probably kick half the people in 8-24 man stuff, but that would be toxic.

There is simply not enough of it to go around( if se would stop putting lvl 35 items for crafting lvl 80 it would cut down on the clutter) Retainers are useful for gathering but aside from storage we could use a bank and crafting item bank. 400 slots are alrdy full.

Housing self explanatory... All they need to do is put instance housing in and that would solve most of the problems. Add more slots is putting a band aid on the problem as ff14 becomes more and more popular the need grows.

Tomestone gathering This one isn't game breaking but having one dungeon per patch just makes it boring to gather tomestone that way. We need variety either put the lvl whatever high lvl it is into the roulette or inc the tomestone from lvl 80 for instance roulette. Either way someone thing needs to replace that dungeon that was taken away. On a related note, I know covid really screwed up the release schedule but we cant have relic be introduced in 5.2 and the meat and potatoes in 5.3 and have less than a year to complete it.

A small list with some points

Technical limitations: The game is showing to have problems keepings things up. This also leads to empty areas, low textures, low render distance of enemies, players, items in housing areas for example. If concerned about PC lagging. Make it an option to make the distance higher.

Viera/hrothgar: I don't think there is much to say about it. They are a mess and in next expansion it needs a fix with hats at the most.

Gear: Gear get's every even patch outdated to quickly and you build the exact same gear up as previous tier. Crafted gear on day one makes your hard earned gear instantly invalid. This most likely has to do with progression of Raid tier Ilvl or crafted gear in general.

Also on topic of gear: Missing content to dump the high end gear in. Not speaking of Ultimates. Just extra content like high end dungeons to make use of your (current tier) Ilvl 490/500 gear in.

Live letters: I love the live letters. The big issue were I walk against is that they don't live translate them. I need to rely on Fan translations from discords. The population is growing and more and more are watching the LL. They need a team to live translate it for AU, NA, EU people at least.

The biggest issue is that we don't have new Hildibrand quests. There, I said it. Even if certain phases of it weren't great, I still enjoyed it. SE says it became stale but I say it hasn't gotten stale enough! Wait -- I mean, it can get better! Give me more quests please!

TLDR:
My biggest complaint is there's nothing to do that's challenging, difficult, or truly end game for PvE content and here's what I mean. There's nothing to do that's hard and isn't raiding.

Explanation / Long version:
World of Warcraft had this problem too back when I started playing during pre-patch Legion. Past raiding, once I got the mogs I wanted, there was nothing to do. You finish everything on Tuesday or Wednesday and then that's it. There was nothing to repeatedly do that gradually got more challenging over time. I mean, there's Mythic raids but that's another discussion. So, when I finish my weekly resets on Tuesday, that was it. You just raid logged until guild raid night, which I already cleared on reset day. This is the same problem that FFXIV has but WoW fixed it for me by adding Mythic+.

Mythic+ adds that replay-ability and wanting to login everyday. I like that hard stuff. I want something to just keep going at over and over and it gets harder every time. That's a end game loop I'm behind and thoroughly enjoy so much more than raiding in WoW. I always talked down about WoW having nothing to do that's hard outside of Mythic raiding but they added Mythic+ and that's been my jam. FFXIV has the same problems I complained about in WoW. There's nothing to do past raiding and I don't think raiding itself is hard either for FFXIV. It's just a dance but the real hard part is finding 7 other players who know how to perform as well as you do. Yes, there's Ultimate raids but that's the same argument I can say about WoW before they added Mythic+.

Look, I mainly play World of Warcraft and only really looked at FFXIV after seeing an ad for ShadowBringers before it released; because I was really hating how much of a drag Battle For Azeroth was and is ending as. Now, I'm here for the story but not the end game anymore. I used to try and get into raiding in FFXIV but when 9 statics you join all disband within 10 months, you get tired of looking for the "right" static. Maybe it's because I'm on Crystal. Maybe it's because I don't like taking on hard things casually. Maybe it's because I play more seriously than most groups. It can be many things but it's not the point of this thread.

I want more challenging things to do that's not raiding and scales infinitely by getting more difficult and changes weekly. Something like Mythic+ from World of Warcraft. I'm sure FFXIV can provide it but I don't think they figured out how to yet without turning off the massive casual atmosphere they've built over the years.
