Ishgardian Restoration world visit.

It is nice that they are trying to get more people involved with crafting and gathering, my hope is that the developers find a way to balance these activities to be done by those newer but also have activities geared towards those of us who have spent a lot of time leveling, outfitting, melding to squeeze every ounce out of our rotations. Reading this message it does seem like they have that thought in their mind, it is just a matter of testing the waters with this initial Ishgard Restoration project.

Crafters are having problems now that hunters had ever since World Travel was implemented.


I remember when people getting locked out of their own world because a S Rank would have spawn and people from all over would flock to that world and noboy else could get in. The devs either figured out how to manage that or they just did nothing and people got pissed off and stopped traveling too much. People who had no interest in traveling and just tried doing things on their own world were also affected, as the wanderers would (and still do) snipe the hunts and kill them before everyone has a chance to participate. Hunts take from 5 hours to 3 days to respawn.



Now people are doing it again, traveling to the worlds where the firmament FATE is about to pop and locking people from their own server from participating. You don't travel? Too bad, everyone from elsewhere is here now and you can't get in to participate in the FATE of your own world. Those FATEs spawn each 8 hour and are incredibly missable content.


Yet, things like gathering from legendary nodes have restrictions when world traveling. They don't run out if too many people are on them, do they? Nope. They locked them out because they're probably concerned with the market board. Yet, materia clusters dropped by hunts that can be converted into sellable materia and all the sellable stuff that you can get from the firmament are A-OK for wanderers to farm from all over the datacenter. Go figure.



Add all the other problems, like people not being able to get houses because some douche with money and PROBABLY BUYING GIL FROM RMT SELLERS are doing lots of smurf accounts to buy dozens of houses on entire wards making the extremely limited and shortsighted house minigame even more hard to get in, or having very little large plots making either crafting stuff for them not worth it and making their owners having extreme advantages with gardening items, and you start wondering if the developers even care if people who pay money every month are being able to play the game.

Considering how poorly this has rolled out. This sounds like a job for NG+. For the current players who can't do it and for future players who will have never been around.

If they cared about past content, NG+ would include stuff from 1.0.

I don't see why a system that was designed to allow different servers to finish at different times results in EVERY server finishing at roughly the same time.

If the purpose is to encourage players to take up crafting, a server being "too slow" would make a more encouraging environment, in my view, showing players that crafting would be more lucrative on their server, as there would be a bigger market. I have a friend that has been intimidated by crafting but when I mentioned this restoration might be done within a day (to try to encourage her to jump in while it's active), she felt there was no point. It drove her away further b/c it would be over before she really got into it.

Let lower crafting servers move slower. Let them have some control and influence over how fast their own server progresses. If THEY want it to move faster, let them take up crafting. Let their server reflect their own population.

This exactly. You have to grind as for DoH/DoL materia to get enough of the scrip to buy the stuff they have on offer in IR. But when the fate pops? You do like 4 of the contribution things and you get 500 scrip. That's crazy. That would drive players to other servers to quickly rack up 4000 scrip with just a little bit of effort -- or virtually zero effort if they didn't even bother to contribute to the stockpile -- while locking out other players from doing that content. And they'd do it not to 'help' the other server, but from greed, and greed that deprived another player of that same reward.

I believe there should be a contribution requirement for participating in the FATE.
Say (Players highest crafting Tier*10) points - to prevent freeloaders from jumping in.
Its all right if you are an other worlder but then contribute to that servers score first.

I have got kicked out once despite being present in the room at the start of fate - The game just froze and I disconnected.

Honestly just make it so you have to contribute 7500 points before the fates spawn to be able to particpate or get booted out of the firmament until fate is over. This would keep people who actually contributed to the effort, slow down any off world people as they are forced to do a fair few crafts to participate per world.

7500 points would be less than a 100 lv 70 crafts with highest rating as an example how easy it is.

The FATE was the only way for gatherers to get scrip. That's pretty badly imbalanced.

What if the IR nodes drop turn-in items as you gather, the way The Giving Land drops crystals? That way gatherers are still free to sell or use those mats so the MB for those items for crafters doesn't become incredibly imbalanced, but people who have gatherers (or enjoy DoL content much more) can do that AND have a way to earn scrip?

I agree with this idea, though I would make it a bit lower, for those who have less time. But yeah, 1% or 7500 pts or something. But make it fair to those crafters who are only lvl 20. It's supposed to encourage players to take up crafting. Not quit out of bitterness.

I for one would like some challenging content for gatherers. Crafting despite being hard is all about overmelding the latest gear and following a fixed rotation.
Eureka was a fun system with its own levelling system for DoW/DoM.

I wonder if a similar system for crafters/gatherers is possible. That rewards hardcore players and not the casual folks who jumped in because Crafting/Gathering became 10x faster.

Yoshisan mentions a ranking system- It reminds me of a similar system in previous years - it became more about about showing off and arrogance rather than to promote any content.
I'd be careful with such a system.

It was absolutely clear that it would come to this and now we have to wait until SE decides to put a stop to it, great, really motivating me to participate any more in it.
My recommendation: Reset the event back to zero when you block players from other worlds from participating, so that those of us who have better things to do than afking there 1 hour or longer to get 500 scrips from the fate also have a chance to participate.
And maybe even go a step further and remove all already gathered scrips and items, if possible, so that those egoists that hopped from server to server to get 500 scrips for free while blocking us don't get anything out of it.

I agree with this... I did 100 skybuilders' cooking pots last night, and not only did that mean crafting 100 items as collectables, but it also meant crafting 100 dark chestnut lumber, gathering 500 dark chestnut logs to make that lumber, as well as gathering 600 skybuilders' high mythrite sand and 600 skybuilders' hardsilver ore. Making 100 items is a pretty massive time investment, it took me almost two hours to do this.

As other have said, that's a bit high. Also bear in mind some may be handing in the level 20 crafter stuff, which will be waaaay less points.
But something like 20 hand-ins buying access to a single CE on that server (resetting on world move) would at least stop casual theft-tourists, and force folk to leave and gather or buy materials to contribute on a continuous basis, interrupting the FATE-train flow consistantly; a the same time, being achieveable by even a newbie with no crafter over 20 and limited time to play (or time before the next CE).

Why is it when we try to find solutions people give extreme solutions? That is probably over 2000 items to gather at lvl 70 and many people do not have that time. So then people would have to stockpile and then contribute and hope the fate pops while still online? Come now... that would make the opposite problem where people just opt out once they got the items they need through scrips. Or just skip the whole event entirely bc the hassle is not worth the rewards.

What if the FATES happened much more often? People would not be afraid to miss them out and wouldn't have much reason to world hop.

Instead of 8 hours, why not every hour? Diminish the exp and scrips a bit... Wouldn't it work?

That's worse that he KNEW about it being a possible problem. It doesn't matter if another world has less crafters/gatherers. The FATE is easy to finish and has ZERO to do with actually participating in the initial steps that takes hours and hours to finish.

They can't really lock or disable world visit to reasons stated; craft/gath density fluctuate heavily between servers and it's way too early into the content to take a drastic action as they need to see how the activity get to once the hype have subsided and players that came in rushing got their items and leave the content, leaving behind those leveling doh/dol, getting more scrip item or actively working on progressing.

One solution to avoid any future issue would be to implement an Effort Participation threshold and only allow players to participate in the event if they delivered at least a certain number of items (example 100 or 200 items sound fairly reasonable and easy to attain), that would drastically limit the leeching from inactive players to jump to other world when the event is up as they wouldn't have participated in the stockpile effort and allowing active players to be able to attend the event. It wouldn't prevent players from others world to visit and do the deliveries but it would kneecap attempt a lot as they'd have to farm across multiple world which would be time consuming to do so.

But in the meantime, deal with it as it's bound to calm down by next week or shortly later.

PS, You know since I can't get scrips from GATHERING, this is the only way I can keep up!!!!

The biggest issue for me is the things I need to click to even do the event are not appearing on screen. Spending 4+ hours gathering and crafting, being in the place on time, and not even being able to do the event feels really bad.

You know that this means "Deal with being locked out of content on your own server"? That should never happen! Basically same with the hunts, I had times where I couldn't go into a zone to do quests because there was a hunt target there.

Its not practical to accurately say how many crafters and gatherers a world has, some people have them leveled up but may not actually use them. no clue how they are gonna fix this beside a server lockout

i actually think this is a pretty good idea, the biggest reason most of my friends were going to other worlds was because they missed theirs because of work or just, not being able to play the game when the fate was on their server so they had to hop if they wanted to make it. 8 hours is huge, basicaly means it only happens 3 times a day, and practically guaranteeing 2 of those 8 times are gonna be either when people are working, or when people need to sleep.

A friend just made a very good point; The fact that we can World Visit actually takes away from smaller servers as well, rather than simply being a boon to them. Crafters from smaller servers are just as able and likely to visit other servers when its time for their Concerted Works as the reverse, and while they're there waiting they're either contributing to that server, or simply AFK. Either way they're not contributing to their home server at all during that time, then they hop to a different server again and continue not contributing to their home server... So rather than speeding things up for smaller servers, it's more likely slowing them down while the other servers work through their Concerted Works, then speeding things up when an influx of Wanderer's finally makes their way to the last server on the list... I really don't see that as a healthy system to have in place for a gameplay element like this at all...

Forget 30 minutes: you now can't even get in 60-90 minutes before the thing get's full on Moogle. In other words, unless you get in just as the project was completed you have no chance. This is the worse server event content I've taken part in. Even though I help stockpile for it I can't do the FATE. Whatever progress my realm makes - I don't proud of it or like I've contribute to it. Me and many on my realm are stuck outside of it. I'm just being used as a grunt whilst people from other realms get all the rewards.

if they want to remove world visit they'll have to change the system. im not saying your wrong, but im saying as the system currently is the world visit problem both helps and fucks some stuff up. Theyd probably need to make the fate happen more on each server if they do a lockout, because most people can't afford to be there 2 of the 3 times the fate is up in a day, and if they get home and their server's fate is already done and they cant stay up 8 hours for the next one world visit is the only way they can participate in it.

not to mention the recent influx of crafters with the 5.1 changes

I'd say a contribution of 500 points should be cool enough.
Most of the server jumpers just camp without putting in a single craft.

Additionally this content is for those who have completed Ishgard. So its actually pointless for most lvl 20 crafters unless its owned by a veteran who doesnt craft in the first place.
The content is gated for Midtier and above players.
I have characters in different servers who have not started Ishgard but crafters are at 50 already.
Additionally Yellow scriping is faster and more rewarding. The only advantage is the glam, mount and pose for Ishgard scrips.

Agreed. It's probably not something they can do for this iteration of the content, but for 5.2 onward they should probably make it so there are more FATE steps per stage. Right now we have two with an 8h gap? Could easily have it so the whole thing covers a 24h period, with say a smaller Concerted Works every 1~2hs. That way people should always be able to participate in at least one once their server has finished the stockpiling stage.

I'd say they should work on locking out Wanderer's for now though anyway. Sure some people will miss it just because of their schedule, but honestly I think I'd rather be in a situation where I miss it due to my own schedule, than actually turn up on time and be unable to even enter because of all the Wanderer's flooding the server.

You could have leveled multiple crafters to 80 DOING THE RESTORATION CONTENT in the amount of time its taken you to say you cant do the content.

I'm not sure on the numbers, who knows if this is correct, but if most people hop because they can't participate in their own fate because of time, then a lockout would mean some fates on some worlds wouldn't get done. But only SE knows if thats true or not, only they know the statistics. As much as a fuck up this is, I trust that they'll fix it. I just hope the community doesn't crucify them because of a mistake and discourage them from doing something like this again.

As I said shortly after Yoshida's post, all they really need to do to solve the whole "Low populations might not finish the Concerted Works" issue is make it work like any other FATE, where the number of players present determines the "difficulty" of the FATE. Like if you're the only person in a Eureka zone, it's entirely possible to solo some FATEs just because they're scaling off the number of players in the instance, HP pools get significantly reduced and it's a breeze to clear them as a result. If they made Concerted Works function in a similar manner, then it wouldn't matter if say you're the only person in the zone for one at 3AM, it would scale off that fact and you'd be able to clear it.

Really they shouldn't have even used FATEs for this to begin with, a new system that doesn't have the same limitations would have been much better... Having a system where you can time out in failure for this doesn't even really make much sense... You time out so all the hammering you did do is undone? That's... Not how construction works... There really should be no failure state for Concerted Works, if it times out you should still be rewarded, and the progress on that one should carry over to the next. Again though, we'd need a significantly shorter wait time between them for that to really pay off.

Oh yeah I trust that they'll do something like that. I trust Yoshida to make it so this fate can get done by everyone. They'll have a solution. If the last expansions were anything to go by, I don't expect this to fail and go to shit. I just hope this community is not like the WoW community and will stand by the devs and trust them too

For extra context since pages apart my rough idea is to put a point threshold where if you do not meet you are booted out/not allowed into the firmament until fate is over, now i have no idea where the threshold should be but it should be high enough it slows down off worlders from just getting the points in 5 mins but also not so high it alienates people (my original number was too high i admit i was biased), this idea would also require an npc in the Foundation for hand ins for latecomers potentially being able to join in if they meet said threshold.

This is literally meltdown mode for servers that are extremely populated already. Excalibur has been overran by Leviathan, and I'm sure it will happen to Ultros which is slated to have the fate in 22 minutes as time of this is posted. The lack of foresight when creating this event by allowing world hoppers to take space over people who, like me, all day crafted and turned things in is just poor planning. Fix it. Don't give us sweet nothings of "if it gets worse we will do something". It already is "worse".

What they could do is impose restrictions on said servers with higher crafter/gatherer populations where they are locked to outsiders, but the lower pop servers are open to receive help.

Basically treat it like congested servers, except only those on the home world can enter.
