I am kinda surprised that people can get upset over a public discussion...if you make a thread on the forum, be prepared to get it torn to shred.

If we did that then women still wouldn't be able to wear pants without getting arrested. What clothes belong to what gender is culturally dictated, not a cold hard scientific truth of the world. You say you don't care but you care enough to say it's "inappropriate," so your attempt at neutrality is just laughable, really.
I am glad that I was able to entertain you. Haizz...I am certainly not neutral in my opinion, of course not. In case you forgot, I am going to repeat it again: I think that outfit is an abomination on males.
I am, however, not going to object to it being implemented.
What more do you want from me? That I have to say it's "appropriate"?
We are running in circle here so this will be my last post on this thread:
As stated before, I think it is an abomination because in my opinion, it looks ugly on men, and that men and women should be in attires that are appropriate to their genders.
Yea, just like the hysteria where playing DnD would lead you to conjuring witchcraft? Or playing Mortal Kombat would incite urges to perform fatalities on random pedestrians? That is some really fantastic mental gymnastic there.Quote:
What people think is just opinions on a videogame may manifest in other ways and affect real people more deeply than you know.
I think you are just being paranoid.
It's only a circle because you believe that's where it ends - there's a reason you think certain outfits belong only to certain genders and it's not just "your opinion". Think about what that reason is. What helped form that opinion? Where did you learn it from?
Nah, more like you thinking men who may dress femininely in real life are abominations. I don't gotta be paranoid when that's just what happens, baybee.
When the male bunny outfit was first announced, I made a comment here about how I had been expecting something different and wouldn't be putting fishnets on any of my male alts.
Then I went away and thought about it. My fem roe wears a lot of 'masculine' tailored gear and looks great in it, my male bard wears heels, so what exactly was my problem with males in fishnets? I came to the conclusion that it was simply because I was used to thinking of fishnets as female wear. In retrospect that seemed a pretty weak reason to complain about them.
Take a look at this picture FFXIV Bunny Boys I think that male au ra absolutely rocks this outfit and the other tall races look pretty good, too. It seems a shame to introduce the bunny costume for males and not dress any npcs in it.
I'd like the male npc's to not wear the outfit. My reason is that I think the outfit doesn't look good on male characters. I recognize that my culture partially affects my taste, but so what? I care more about my own culture than some culture from a different time or place in which this kind of attire is considered good looking on males.
This has nothing to do with what individuals wear since the thread is about wanting to dress non-playable characters which were not made by and are not controlled by any of us.
Tim Curry wore it better.
Having some men wear masculine clothing that is more revealing would be a great idea. I think the bunny suits look terrible on all characters, but I never objected to them.
The idea that we must have male npcs in bunny suits is odd. I'm glad male pcs got their bunny suits that they wanted so badly for years, but why is this a needed change? Is it a change for the sake of change? I really don't understand why this is a big need.
There never has to be a reason for want.
Only you very much do, otherwise your post was pointless. This would be a change with basically zero impact on 99.9% of the playerbase yet here you still are, going "but why?". To which I reply, why not?Quote:
I'm not sure why you are asking me to defend a position I do not have.
Because some of us find it pleasing. Because equality. Because eye-candy. Because to spite the people who get their feathers all ruffled by this being unlocked to guys in the first place. And because there's absolutely no reason not to do that even before they unlocked it for PCs, given that we have a plethora of examples in the game where NPCs wear things PCs can't given race and/or gender. Change isn't the only thing that requires a reason, a lack thereof does, too, and usually it's not a very good one.
Also, heaven forbids, "change", we want an NPC and a half in the corner of the GS wearing a bunny outfit, why do we need a reason for it?

I went to hang out with these guys in game and have a couple drinks. Despite looking horrible in their Salor-Moonish outfits they were pretty fun and chill.
I asked if they would like to see the bunny outfit on male Gold Saucer NPC's, the one in red said 'no, we have style'
I said you call these outfits style?
All three at once responded 'bitch, I'm fabulous'
I agreed, we laughed and had a few more drinks.
Pleasing and eye-candy are reasons. "Equality," upsetting people, and "why not" are not actual reasons. That's the information I was asking.
So you prefer men in more revealing clothing or bunny suits in particular? This is an open-ended question.
If someone else has a reason for implementing this, feel free to chime in. I think someone mentioned a npc wanting it? I don't recall this person, but I don't doubt he exists.
Edit: By "open-ended" I mean open to all to answer. Apologies. I just realized I typed that out incorrectly. :)
Actually did reflect on it. Mostly because it doesnt work on guys. The fishnets for example work on women because female attractiveness tends to be centered around smooth, and narrow/ less defined musculature. The fishnets emphasize both of those really well. But male attractiveness is more about musculature that is wider and more dynamic, and the fishnets generally work against them. It softens and smooths what makes them attractive. The bustiers are designed to prop up a woman's chest and emphasize it, while ends up breaking up the male's pecs and hiding the abs. The ears really don't matter so much, neither do the cuffs. Heels...idk, I think the thing in game is that animators just ignore how they make you walk anyways, and they don't really factor in how many inches it adds to a man's height.
A comparable thing for women is if you remember the eighties, and the fixation on shoulder pads. Trying to thicken and bulk up the female form removes the attractiveness factor a bit. In game, with us its the garo armor, in which you can only tell the character is female by their stance. The Warrior armor with its thick thighs especially.
I mean, people do have to realize that equality doesn't mean we are all interchangeable. It's not a matter of just slapping on the same clothes, there is a lot of work by designers in how the clothes hang on a person and how they are tailored to a man or woman's shape that makes them attractive. I think we had a good example with the recent male "skinny jeans" fad, in which they tried to take jeans which were tailored more for women and broaden them to men, and very few men could pull them off without looking ridiculous. Especially since the trend was for a patriarch's beard as well!
This is a good, insightful post, but it also boils down to you finding specific fashion choices personally unappealing, so I hope we can agree that 'abomination' was too strong a word choice? I hate skinny jeans, too, but I not going to call people wearing them abominations.
On-topic, they should toss a few bunny-boys in the GS. Why not? It would be fun, and I'm sure the writers would come up with amusing things for them to say. And maybe Godbert and Julyan could wear matching bunny suits the next time they make a cameo in a seasonal event or sidequest!
I daresay the fishnets work for both, but have been historically associated with women. What works about them is the way they stretch (and the open areas expand) over protrusions. This works for a woman's ample butt and hips, but also works for men's muscles, too. I just wanted to say that part. I don't think it's about the smoothing effect, more about highlighting how the underlying structures protrude, be they fat or muscle.
That being said, the way the bunny suit was just copied wasn't my favorite choice. I would have preferred it to do more about exposing what (typically) men can that women can't, the chest. Like a chest window or something dramatic, with abs and pecs in full view. Oh, and nipple textures. Because men can totally do that and women can't! :) Oh oh, and maybe little puffs of steam or sweat, that would be sexy. :D
I think poster was using it as "very very ugly" not "offense to nature and the moral order." Hyperbole. Usually i put a lot of posts through a hyperbole filter. It would be stuff like moral degenerate i'd be worried about.
I think there is a point to this in general for tight fitting stuff, but I find I don't have the same issues with monocolored spandex on guys. There is a leather black pants set in game which can look really good on them. I notice most people who use the fishnets are miqote or aura, who are the lither of the male races. I actually havent seen rogs, humes, and highlander males much at all with them.
I'm kind of just theorizing off the cuff here. I do notice some times fishnets can be attractive on guys, but they use it a lot for a specific texture in more of a complicated pattern overall. Like if the thighs are deemphasized anyways due to a ornate jacket or boots, it can work well in my opinion because it brings balance back. Im hard pressed to find an example though. I guess for me the best sort of that kind of male fashion is rooted in otome games, and that its more about evoking a type of character or feeling more. Its good to think on this stuff in general sometimes, because clothing we all take for granted, yet it has so much power to shape people's attitudes.
All these folks in this topic perfectly happy to have female eye-candy, but deny the ladies their snack?
I'm comfortable enough in my own sexuality to say "let the ladies have their service".
They're probably gonna lock this thread soon with all the hostility and name calling. lol
My opinion? Equality is great let's do it. But those bunny suits look stupid on dudes. I'd rather see them in a dress at this point.
That's a lot of words to what can be summarized as "my personal taste." You keep going on and on about "female attractiveness" like that's set in stone, when we've seen alllllllllll through history that what's considered attractive comes and goes! Right there, you mention a fashion trend that came and went! In your post!
Why is it so hard to understand that "attractiveness" is extremely subjective and malleable and influenced by cultural norms that may not be healthy. Having tastes is good and fine, but not when you act like your truth is the only truth. Guys in bunny suits may be ugly to you but enough people piped up about it that it was actually implemented in-game. Why isn't that proof enough for y'all to realize maybe... different people have different tastes and they can all co-exist just fine?
Well, that's a matter of your personal tastes, but that IS the main point towards the outfit. To give the "feeling" of being sexy or provocatively attractive. I mean, they're just playing off of the casino show girls and playboy bunny image. Outfits like those bleed the image of attraction, vanity, and beauty of the body.
It's also at the discrepancy of SE as a company to define just how far that they want to take it, if you're coming into XIV and expecting Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball levels in terms of sex appeal, you're nuts.
This thread has devolved into people calling eachother weirdos and perverts around page 8 or so, and has strayed off the main topic.
The fact is, you guys waited so long for the bunny outfit for men, but you'll be waiting even longer for them to even bother with something like changing the male npc wear. I am entirely neutral on this honestly as all my characters range from full plate armor to at the most revealing is a pair of short shorts, and my immersion isn't ruined by dudes in heels and bunny ears. A suggestion like this is one that people will forget about in a month or so, because it's not really a hot topic (but extremely controversial, as always).
I imagine a lot of people are fine with male candy. They just want it to be done in a way that compliments the male form and conforms to conventional forms of attractiveness. The bunny outfit does nothing for me on either gender as a bisexual guy. I do have a stronger preference for men, though - so I'd be more pleased with something that shows off flesh without being exceedingly feminine in nature.
They're amongst the worst looking NPCs in the entire place. What I fail to grasp is how people don't understand that a good deal of the content that SE shoves in there is stuff they consider cringeworthy and gaudy. That is why they're confined to the Gold Saucer mad house, also home to another character - Godbert - who is 99% joke character.
I'm not trying to be mean or rude to anything and I just wanna say I am pro: "Let them wear what they want!"
But Jesus man. We already took years to even get this. Now you're asking them to be on NPC's just because...?
Honestly, I just want more content and not have them worry about this anymore.
They gave you the mile you inched on for years to give you the glamour for your own characters.
Just please...please stop talking.
We can all easily sexualize the perverted looking Lalafell
eating a sub in your Tumblr. So please.

Oh believe me, I'm not disagreeing. My point was that explaining it as a 'fetish' that 'had no place' in the GS was patently untrue because they exist. Frankly I'd be happier if those three had their outfits replaced with bunny outfits, it'd be less garish if only because their color choices could be better.
What is going on with the whole bunny suit thing?
A small waste of dev time.
I'm not about to read through all 18 pages so... [FWD->>]
How about no. The bunny outfit looks pretty terrible on everyone, but at least it was designed with the female form in mind. If you're insistent on having skimpy males in the Saucer, at least give the males something that actually fits them instead of having them look like the butt of a joke.
Suggestion: You can give those three sailor-looking jackasses appropriately sexy outfits and have them be performers or become regular employees that make rounds around the Saucer. They could actually make use of the Event Square stage that's only used for ~10 minutes out of every hour.
