Why do people beg for cash shop stuff?

Wow choosing not to spend $18 on a digital item that is not even account wide means I'm poor and live in a trash can. Learn something new everyday. Most of us don't care how you spend your money, we care that how you spend your money affects the game. The trend is showing that if you ask for it to be put in the CS then the devs seem to respond to you throwing cash at them. The people who are not throwing money at the cash shop feel like the minority and that their requests to put items in the game are being ignored. That's the major issue here. People are upsettl that their opinions don't seem to matter. People should stop with the name calling and try to see things from both sides. Most of the nice looking glamors are coming through the CS or promotions vs found in the game. While in the game you're getting a lot of reused gear models. It is starting to appear that my monthly sub doesn't carry the same weight as your extra CS purchases.

I think that's how most people feel. Why should the devs NOT put the nicer looking glamours in the cash shop when people are willing to buy an item for their main and their five alts?

When you call people lazy for a choice on what they do for their money that is an insult. And To make this clear the insult I made was FAKE. It was posed to be inchangeable with all these " lazy" comments in all these threads. I guess my point - poorly- was made tho. No one likes to be insulted for what they are doing. Which is all I was trying to get across.

This is a matter where people are poorly picking their battles to over dramatically be angry about. The majority (i.e. not all) of cash shop equip goods are also reused gear models with some modifications added (or removed), akin to how a lot of in-game models are done. It's just the fact they're gated behind a pay wall that people think the grass is significantly greener on that side, than it is on their own.

Some items stand out, like the moogle mount, but they better for that high price tag. Could they have added it into the game? Sure. Would they though? Probably not, at least not in the same form that it is on the cash shop. It'd likely have the music, dual mount, and flair with the little mogs removed. Even then though, you get an idea of the base concept. It's a remodeled bomb chariot from the Kobold rep vendor.

Folks should voice distaste for the cash shop, that much is probably necessary for as long as it lasts, but they have to understand that most, if not all of that voiced concern is going to fall upon nothing when the concerns don't have much merit to their objective. If their objective is to show the higher ups that FFXIV can sustain greater revenue thanks to low cost practices like the cash shop, so that they can get better headway and gain a better chance at increased encumbered money to budget (as seen with Stormblood), then of course opinions of distaste for the cash shop is going to go nowhere. What do any naysayers have to offer the devs to accomplish this, that the cash shop doesn't already provide many times over? Realistically speaking, practically nothing in today's market.

I think (well, hope) your worries are overinflated here. While we don't know the specific financials, we do know that the next expansion is getting a bigger budget, and people are using the cash shop. That certainly implies that the cash shop is helping the game.

But to your more important point about people feeling ignored, so far I think it's hard to make that case. As far as glamour (i.e., ignoring mounts and minions for the moment), they've historically added specific character outfits and old event glamours. There was also the wedding stuff which of course goes along with the wedding being a cash shop thing. But right now, the far eastern gear is an exception, and one with some justification, given its source.

If the cash shop remains limited to scion gear, old event gear, and special promo gear from other regions, I think everything will be fine. Once they start selling things like NPC gear or the stuff that has up until now been high-level crafted gear, that will be a bad sign. And several people have been asking for that specifically on the cash shop, which I don't agree with personally.

In short, I have no problem with them adding very special stuff to the cash shop, but I don't want to see it become the place where you buy arbitrary glamour. (I'm not too hopeful on that front, to be honest.)

It's not rocket science to think that a system which brings in more money to the game leads to the game having more money. It's by no means proven but it is definitely implied.

To put it another way, correlation doesn't conflict causation, and it's quite logical to conclude that the cash shop has caused the budget for the game to increase. Again, not saying it's certain, but I think "imply" is more than fair in this case.

Indeed, you can make that assumption, but "we do know that the next expansion is getting a bigger budget, and people are using the cash shop" does not give you that certainty. You're using other information to come to that conclusion. In this case, it "may" and not "certainly" implies it. You could even just say it implies it and remove the word certainly, and it would be more accurate.

I do, however, disagree with the conclusion. I think the higher budget is solely based on the fact that they are putting less money into FFXV development, than they were previously (due to it being near its launch).

This line of reasoning is similar to:

1.) Someone unsubbed from FFXIV
2.) Someone subbed to WoW

Conclusion: Game is dying and everyone is flocking from FFXIV to WoW.

While it is a possibility based on the information, it's hardly enough information to draw the conclusion.

I would hazard a guess that the cash shop had little to do directly with the increased budget for Stormblood. More likely SE top brass looked at sub numbers and the like and decided to allocate more resources to funding the expansion. Cash shop funds likely went in every which direction - possibly some to Stormblood but I don't think the cash shop itself had any major impact on budgeting for the new expac.

People beg for items to be added to the cash shop:

1. They have disposable income, so they prefer to buy ingame items then spend it on something else.
2. They do not want to do stuff ingame to earn it, so they pick the easy route which is to buy it via the Mog Station. (glamour items requires the player to have a high level crafter, mounts and minion will require that player defeat hard boss and hope that they win the item...etc)
3. They think the developers wont make these items, if they arent sold via Mog Station. Higher odds of items being made if Square Enix can make more money is a reason why they beg for the item to be added in the Mog Station.
4. They know that players hate it when they ask for items to be put in the Mog Station, so they make threads about the Mog Station, so they can troll other players.

Asking for extra retainers doesn't mean they will be adding one for just you, it means allowing every single account access to it, which represents a huge impact on storage. VS asking you to pay $2 where they only have to allocate extra space for you (and you're basically covering for that).

Same thing happened with previous FF's revenues. They funded FFXIV, which wasn't cheap btw.
I'm not against this being done. It anything it means they aren't dropping this game soon, and I don't mind it as long as the CS items don't become must-have items in that they start granting ridiculously goods stats and the like. And I can keep deciding on whether to buy them or not.

It's well known that FFXI subscriptions helped fund both XIII and XIV 1.0-2.0. 1.0 and XIII both having longer than anticipated Dev Cycles and its extremely expensive in-house Crystal Tools Engine Development for both titles. XI revenue saved SE during an extremely rocky era.

Also Agni's Philosophy and the forever lost to us original PS3 version of VersesXIII. (Boy, I can't wait for us to move on from Noctis's story and bring in a new project X.x...)

The real issue is not cash shop, it's the game content itself & the majority of the player base.

People want easy,fast leveling, people want nice weapons & armors when they are leveling.
people love the beautiful LV1 outfits and they want more.
people like the voice acting & they want more (full voice)
people want SOLO/DF so they can complete dungeons quests easy & fast,

People hate the REAL works like FFXI, people don't care "adventures","player interactions" or whatever.
People picked FFXIV2.0/3.0/WOW over FFXI/FFXIV1.2/EQ because they are a lot easier.
In such Theme park, and some people still think they are working on something? LMAO

You choose this game, you like this game, but to support your deluxe, fast paced game play,
SE had to make a deluxe Cash shop, so they have the money to release more face paced contents for you.

The CS buyers are not the cry babies/beggars,

To be honest though, the unlinking of helpful funding that the cash shop offers to this game is unreasonable. Working in a business level and having zero exposure to video games, someone of that nature could logically draw the conclusion that more money coming in, means more money being (potentially) available to the maker. It's not a secret to anyone with some baseline business knowledge to know that companies commonly pool their resources, regardless of where it comes from. Nor is it a secret that they will be more willing to invest (encumber) greater numbers to the budget of a product that has proven potential to turn a profit.

In this case, drawing the conclusion that successfully making money/profit for a company doesn't mean it helps them, is one of pure ignorance. Saying it does help is a conclusion based on a system and practical textbook practice, rather than something completely unknown, like figuring out what someone will specifically do with their time and money when they quit the game. While it's not a 100% guarantee that it's the reason for things like a better budget, it's definitely a far more sound argument to say it helps rather than does nothing at all. It's just... poor business if it didn't help, as in a business that will file for bankruptcy within its first year type of poor.

Don't get me wrong , I don't like the theme park game play in this game, they are joke.
But I am quite enjoying the outfits/cash shop/glamour/housing LOL

There's an argument that always appears when people are discussing the cash shop, saying that people shouldn't care because the cash shop only has vanity and not gear. But does the community really value gear above vanity? I think I've seen more people spending hours farming primals for mounts than people raiding for stronger gear, likewise with more gil spent on houses, furniture and glamour compared to crafted gear, materia, buff pots and food.

With this I'm not saying they should put battle gear in the cash shop, just pointing out that vantiy gear is more valued than people think, I mean it's so valued that people are even paying extra real money for it.

It is indeed valuable, that much has never changed from long before microtransactions were ever a common thing. The defining factor of complaints is how often people jump around about their "points" for them. I think it's universally acknowledged among most FFXIV players that we don't want the cash shop to sport P2W practices. The grey area for a lot of us with that is what constitutes the "win" part.

Many of us play for our own reasons, so obviously paying to "win" is going to be subjective. What isn't subjective however is the devs idea or direction of that "win". It's obvious enough that the primary point of this game is centered around combat and stats on the gear to let you win at combat. That said, glamour, while popular, is not an officially recognized form of "winning" in this game.

People are always willing to pay more for appearance or prestige. Look no further than the average persons want of color preference. Suppose you were going to buy a car in a color you wanted, but the dealer says another car of the same model/make/year was available at $20 cheaper except not in that color, would you take the cheaper offer or stick with what you wanted and forgo that lost $20? I'm willing to bet you would go with your preferred color for vanity sake, despite not saving money. That's paying more for something that doesn't actually give you an advantage with the car itself.

So long as there's preference or appeal in video games, there will always be a market for it. In fairness to players however, given the fact it's sub based, functions pertaining to the "win" direction of the game will not be applied in so drastic of a way. It may eventually, with level boosting (a P2W purchase, but one that actually does warrant a look into exactly how positive/negative it'd be at the time of introduction), but gear acquisition is a big "no" at any point of this games existence, if they're going to keep P2W out of the cash shop. Just saying that value or popularity of something doesn't imply the same standing as something else.

And yet, stats are synced in the vast majority of content, which puts a cap to the degree at which stats can make you win at combat. Moreover, crafting has an entirely unrelated, but very similar, equally stat based endgame - you need a battle job at 60 to partake, you do not need to strive for that winning condition after however. These stats are curiously not synced.

To add to this, stats do not retain their value indefinitely - after roughly 6 months, that gear will have to be replaced. As such, any "win" in gearing is only temporary. And a lot more temporary than a level boost for example, as levels tend to remain relevant for longer than gear. Level 60 is as relevant now as it's been at the start of HW - iLvL 170 gear not.
Furthermore, a primal mount takes far, far longer to attain than a primal weapon. Not materia or the weapon but rather the hairstyle, the barding, the pony are the hardest things to get from PotD. Savage mounts are rarer than Savage weapons. If the point of the game is to win with combat stats, the reward scheme of the game is very clearly backwards, as it generally makes stats easier to attain than comparable vanity.

I would argue that in the light of this, the devs idea/direction regarding "win" is a lot more muddled than you make it out to be. The game's design is not very consistent with the idea that gaining combat stats equals "winning".

Nah, it's because it tends to be an exclusive item from another region or something that was once an event exclusive and is no longer obtainable. So while you the player might of paid the 12.99 that month to play the game and get the item when the event was available, now a player who rejoins and wanted that item can instead pay with money to get that item because the sub fee in a sense acts as the key to get those items for "free" because they are designed to be perks for staying loyal and playing/subscribing.

As for the Chinese and Korean outfits, these were specially designed and also special promotions I believe, so to make them "free" to our servers would be very bad PR on SE's part because then it be like saying "Ok we'll have the Koreans and Chinese pay to get those outfits but the NA/EU/JP can get it for free!" and they don't want to suggest that they are giving it away to free to another version when the original version had to pay for it in some way.

Yeah but they would reply for example that it could take them 1 hour of real work to pay for an item which would require them 5 real hours of in-game work. So basically they win time to focus on what they enjoy doing in game skipping the part they don't like. It does make sense.

Of course it can be with consequences. Because for the Cash-Shop items to be attractive, the items needs to be either exclusive or either not quickly obtainable in-game. The important question: Is it leading the developpers to purposely make items harder to get in game as to promote the use of the Cash-Shop, or is the Cash-Shop having no influence on the game experience for all the players?

They are not exclusive items, everyone can get them by just playing the game. You can't deny that, the items you mentionned are in the game, so every susbcribed player can get'em.
And if they don't want difficulty acquiring them, they just gonna need to wait for patches to come along and destroy the bosses with the unsynch ilvl.

CS items are exclusive since not everyone have the money to buy them.

I understand your point, and like our debate. But you can't deny the fact that CS items are exclusives to the people that can pay for it and in my opinion that's not normal. If SE would just mind put a way to obtain them in the game, even if it's an horrible grinding or something and in the CS everyone should be happy.

There no much things you need to work for it in the game, the only thing i see acutally is the relic. So yeah, gathering ressources, killing monsters to get ressources, grind some quest to get those items ? Im all in dude.

My belief is because people think that is SE sees "oh they're willing to pay money for it?" then they're more likely to get it. Asking for it to be put into the game through a quest, NPC, crafting so forth? Much less likely. Cash shop on the other hand?

SE is a business if they know they can make more money they will do it.

because this game has turned into FF: Barbiesward and people want to play with dolls. So they ask for furnitures, clothes and hairstyles. Real gameplay content isn't important...(unless it rewards players with glamour things, then it's ok but it should be really easy because it can't steal time to the dollhouse game).

Well FF14 as always been casual friendly (not in a bad way, just players without a lot of play time) so they can't creat content that requiere hours of raiding or month to down a mob like you can see in other mmos.

True. Still, I think that this glamour thing is getting out of hand. I'm not asking for endless grinding but for more actual playable content. It's difficult to explain this but I wished we had less vanity items and more instanced dungeon, trials, quests ... In terms of workload, I'm not even sure it is more demanding as they have always said that every armor set requires time as it needs to fit every single character model (I remember reading that even making something dyeable isn't straightforward).

I know that a cash shop sells optional items, but is this good? What if it becomes so remunerative that it will be ok to neglect working and investing on other type of contents? I don't like this emphasis on the shop, I see its good points in terms of revenues but I can't shake off the idea that it eventually ruin the game, if it isn't happening already.

Why do people ask for things in the cash-shop?
1) They can afford it, and also I guess, it doesn't bother them that other people might not be so fortunate.
2) It guarantees they will be able to get it, regardless of how much time they have to play and regardless of their skill, where putting items in-game might demand they do content they either don't like or aren't good enough at to get the reward.
3) Instant access, no waiting.

Is it good for the game?
Well, having seen the way the cash-shop has developed with Blizzard and WoW, I don't think so.
When the rewards in-game are lack-lustre compared to the cash shop, it takes away motivation to play.
Not many people want to grind rep for several weeks so they can get a reskinned mount they already have in several colours'
It's the same with glamour, if all the good hairstyles and clothes are in the cash-shop, then people who like these things have less motivation to play.

The problem is, FFXIV is primarily a business. If people complain about some items being hard to get in-game (e.g. PotD hairstyle, new PvP mount) and if they then express a preference for those items to go in the cash shop, then that's where the people running the business side of things are going to want to see development time going.

I understand its disappointing to see an item you like that is unattainable (I know I'll never get that pvp mount), but I feel it's better long-term to just deal with that disappointment, accept that you aren't going to get every single item, and keep the good rewards where they belong, in-game.

After browsing the mog shop it is nearly all fanservice stuff...like if ur a hardcore fan of yshtola or thancred you can buy their outfits. Nothing in there gives any kind of edge in game other than giving you fan servicey options for glamour. I havent bought anything from there...but if u do more power to ya

And I feel it's better to just not create that disappointment in the first place. It's just cosmetics, no reason to make them so hard to get that people get frustrated by it.
It solves two issues in one go and the only ones worse off in the process are the people who take enjoyment in excluding others from something - So people who celebrate glee. Doesn't strike me as a loss.
