I would give relic quests up in a heartbeat for a "trial of the magians" variant in FFXIV but the problem here is that gear doesn't have enough diversity to have something similar so were stuck with whatever relic quest they give us.

Did you even DO Trial of the Magians? Even if you took the "easy" elemental weapon routes, you typically had to buy a crapton of elemental Geodes and Avatarites to finish the latter stages. And if you went the Empyreal weapon route? Dear lord, Heavy Metal Plates, Riftcinders, Riftdross... And heaven help you if you wanted to try to get an Afterglow on your Empy...

The gil grind on Trial of the Magians makes the Anima relic look like a walk in the park!

Cost 5 million with current rates on Hyperion, to straight buy the finished items from MB. Would've cost me maybe 1-2 million to buy mats and give them to crafters to make. Less if I gathered my own mats.

You had to buy nothing with Magians. I made multiple weapons without buying a thing as the farm really wasn't all that awful. But I didn't think mythics or relics were bad either for the worth some of them had.

I really think the only people who are defending this step by any means are the people making gils off of it.

Myself I cannot bring myself to spend the gil after they reduced all our hard work in 2.x to glamour pieces and a couple easily farmed crystals.

The sad part of that is that that amount of gil I spent wasn't from when Zeta was just released. I got my Zeta shortly before the Anima relic was released.

I have been casually observing material & materia prices since Heavensward launch onwards & while prices dropped like boulders at launch (especially with materia), they have been steadily increasing back to their pre-expansion listings. And not just on Leviathan, but Behemoth & Lamia, too.

You guys are lucky. It's about 3 to 3.5m on my server for the 16 items so I can't sell the mats at decent prices. 175k for the HQ arrows...

i farmed lot of items for my elemental weapon , and buy some they were cheap as hell because it dropped like crazy , just farming the mobs needed to complete some steps were nearly enough to get enough items....it was boring as hell waiting for exact weathers .... or days ugh

It was 5.5 mil on my server when I finished.

I'd do the crafting way, but I was chatting with the crafters in my FC about what needed done. I got too confused and decided that figuring it out wasn't worth the time, and I'd rather throw gil down the drain. I really hate crafting in this game though, even just talking about it.

What part do you find funny? I was confused by that comment. Do you mean that it's funny because they complain they can't make gil when they haven't even leveled a crafter? That seems pretty silly in game design, if that's what you mean. Crafting shouldn't be the only way to obtain gil and/or make these relics. It's really a part of this game that I hate with an immense passion and have no desire to be coerced in to it.

Needing crafting materials isn't really out of place for the relic quest, it's fairly normal. I can't wait to see the forums implode in 3.2 when gear has materia slots in it lol.

I never made it to the lvl 99 trials before I quit. Everything before the last trial was just a long grind. I actually did the trial of the magians twice. I got the Great axe for the -12% dmg to be an HP tank and the blm Ice staff. Was working on scholar healer staff before i quit.

I dunno what your going on about i had no trouble getting geodes at all. Not sure about the avatarites. The Empyreal route was meant to be on the par of the Dynamis and mythic weapons, of course they were gil grindy.

I'm not sure the relics they've been releasing so far in this game were meant to be on the level of empyreal, mythic, or dynamis equivalents.

Its supply and demand. Crafters arent being greedy. The cost of the supplies are expensive because they are a pain to get.

Depending on how many gatherers and crafters are on your sever the prices will fluxuate.

Reason why NA servers prices are high is not because people are greedy. Its because the population has less gatherers than JP servers.

It's good to be a gatherer....

Remember supply and demand. Everything now will cost way less later.

I imagine as low as 50,000gil an item. That would make the cost 800k.


Just like your gathering the unspoiled items right now make a long term goal to make enough gil. You can craft and gather with 3 specialists and make those for yourself. Sell those until you have enough to buy the others or ask your FC to make the items your not specialized in.

I dislike this post simply on the condition of it using comic sans. This should be a reportable offense in and of itself. Yuck.

I got arrows from a friend for material cost (i.e. Almost nothing but time, since I can and did gather all of it, save for some cheap dawnbornes I snatched off the mb for ~20k-30k ea)
I crafted my own mirrors for material cost (I'm ARM/ALC/GSM specialist)
Traded some extra mirrors I made with someone for his extra francescas
I bought cakes from a friend for 1.2m

So...1.2m (+ ~300k dawnbornes) and some time was what it cost me.

Not sure the price on Behemoth now as it is been very high for a while. I would guess the price is high because most of the crafters on Behemoth at the start of 3.0 are long gone from the crappy crafting system and red scrips 3.0 gave us. I have crafted about 6 sets of relic items between my 3 chars for crafting. Specialist doesn't help either as I have to switch between chars to make all the items. I have sold them in my FC at my cost to craft or just trade for the mats. If relic is as casual as Yoshi has said, these prices are over the top. As for crafting more items, I really hate switching chars to do it and that doesn't help the supply on the MB. This is the one piece of content I feel bad on even charging mat costs on my server.

I looked at HQ Kingcake today for the laughs, since I know I can't afford it right this moment, and it was a bit over 1 mil for 4 of them. I noped out and didn't check the others. Oh OK. Yeah, I didn't get that >.> I do make my gil via Battle Retainers. I make millions, over time. Since the Relic came out, I've made only a couple million, but I already had several million, so I was able to afford the pieces. It's not a great source of income, but it's something.

The items are around 250k on Moogle last time I checked.

Consider buying or gathering the materials and finding a crafter to make them.

I actually leveled my 2nd battle class retainer recently, I've made a whopping amount of 350,000ish gil from around 300-400 retainer ventures. It's not exactly very lucrative if your luck is awful. I'd do it more often, but there's no phone app to send my retainers out. :(

my retainers only brink these ultimate 2.4 or 5 crafted combat gear which sell for 2000 gil if they are HQ.

well that would make you about 5000 gil at most usually.

It would be better, imo, if crafters needed to rely on battlers for items only available from raid content or be locked out of their own relic tools as well. A credit sort of situation since crafters are drowning in gil anyway. But making battle classes have to rely on crafters for things like relics and not turning the situation around is kindda crappy imo.

The could put the items in Alex savage or Coil, for instance, with a average ilvl determining drop rate with a system that allows them to only purchase the items with things similar to scrips and the cost in scrips (which could then be turned into gil or company credits or hunt marks or something for the battler who sell them) would be determined by the person putting them up for sale. Then we could come on here and use the same arguments they use, level a battler, farm scrips, the market determines the cost not us, get a friend to help you out and such.

I blame the specialist recipe that didn't give alternative for GSM, LTW, and WVR :mad: I choose them and none of them can make things for relic, only material for other specialist :(

Except that they'd get the much better deal out of it since, well...you gotta level a battle class anyway. In the absolute worst case, you're Nin and have to level DRG to 34 and MNK to 42 for cross class so you can be at maximum efficiency. Compare that to 50 in "all" crafting classes and...yeah.

Pretty sure they'd just go like:"'kay." Not to mention that battle classes are vastly more popular, leading to the drops either being so abundant that they're nearly worthless or so rare that it really doesn't matter (Like that coffin lid/wind up Echidna).

Not if they made them alex savage drops, cant just level a battle job and clear savage without putting some effort into gearing, learning rotations and such, just like the crafted items. And as unpopular as savage is it would either just make the raid more worthwhile and breath some life into it or a select few would do it and reap the reward, just like crafters. And it would also give crafters a fresh perspective. It's extremely one sided right now. Plus it wouldn't be mandatory for the crafters just like it isn't for the battle classes.

If you want to do a "specialist" thing you could also make them direct drops but base the drops off your job.

More that they still found no way how to earn gil after 2 years without a crafter.

If you hate crafter, then level up a gatherer, sell treasure maps and farm with a battle class mats by killing stuff and send out your retainers.
Complaining about high costs is not the way to earn gil.

On Cactuar the prices really aren't too bad other than the BSM item (still only 250-300k each compared to other servers).

I do think it's pretty messed up that to obtain just the initial anima weapon that it requires all of these specialist crafts. I'm afraid to see what will be required down the line, though I think they will tone down the next step or two in response to the harsh criticism.

They said the grind was tuned incredibly high because of how hard Savage was, the next raids are going to be significantly easier so it only makes sense that the Anima steps get easier too.

The developers have a strange idea of what the word casual means.

My costs for anima were like 200k

- Gathered all base mats myself or had a friend to help me
- Used my linkshells and friends to get things crafted

Costs are 100k tip, tiny crowns, mistletoes and all the teleports.
Most mats even drop from maps and HQ i150 gear is enough for getting the diadem items HQ...

At the first sight it was OMG how expensive but if you put in time and have good friends it isn't 8m (would've been 4m on my server if bought off MB). But maybe I'm just lucky ^^

You're more than lucky. Being well connected with other high level gatherers and crafters almost makes you an exception to the rule as 3/5 players (Solo, Small FC, Defunct FC, ETC) don't have those kinds of connections. So congratulations on actually being able to do the quest how it was intended (No Sarcasm, completely serious)

Come to think of it, The Devs almost always refer to the groups as "Raiders" and "Non-Raiders" rather than Hard Core and Casuals. ........
