My point is, if i'm just using standard 3 dots I rarely have MP issues, when im using Miasma 2 , shadow flare and ruin 2 a ton, I do.

I don't feel like bio 2 really eats into mp much because I only cast it once and then let it run its duration add contagion on top of that, and ya... I mean unless I'm running a lowbie dungeon where I don't have bane, its never an issue. I guess it will be helpfull in moogle EX fight though.

I have a lot that I could say as far as this whole back and forth of these upcoming buffs are. But I will skip that for now and just simply add that I think it's a little early to be freaking out over "Preliminary" patch notes. We have no idea if that is the only change they made or not. Let's wait until the official patch notes come out to really form our opinions on the matter. Then after that we can actually test it, play with it and decide what we think then.

Yeah but Bio II is going to get cast by everyone, M2 user or not, and even M2 users are going to cast Bio II 2X or so as often as M2. If M2 were buffed, it'd just be an attempt to coerce people to use it more, and even if it worked, it will still see 2X less use which is 2X whatever they reduce the MP cost by instead of 1X whatever they reduce M2 by.

Blm are fine, even more, smn is what im worried about, maybe in a future new egis will compensate

Preliminary notes usually means that they reserve the rights to do last minute changes and that everything major is already in them. Don't expect anything new or anything big to change.

Yeah well maybe I'm giving SE more credit than they deserve. The changes to SMN right now make no sense whatsoever. They might as well not do a damn thing if this is all they are going to do.

They preached about making the other pets more useful and if this is their answer to that then theres no hope for that class as a pet class. Just take the pets away and give the smn contagion... change the job name to Warlock. :D

I don't see why anyone would not be using Miasma 2. It's more damage added, it hits multiple targets. Why NOT use miasma 2? Something tells me people will respond with "its not worth the cost" ... just saying.

Anyway, regardless there is no point in even discussing it any further as it is not what is happening, I was just throwing it out there as an opinion. To clarify I just don't understand the change, nor do I see the benefit to changing a spell that never seemed to cause issues to mp in the first place.

I find the BLM buffs (specifically the potency increases) confusing. I know a few BLM who play their job really well and can keep up with others on single-target fights. Of course, there are fluctuations between jobs depending on the fight, but they are minimal if everyone knows how to maximize their potential. BLM were already the 'king' of AoE damage (yay flares) and nothing was done to adjust or balance this. They were just given more single-target potency.

As far as the summoner changes... Eh, I was a little confused by the buff to Ifrit-Egi. I do like that he is becoming even more viable now. His damage potential is nice on turns where his target isn't moving much (T8 is the big example), and he is nice in PvP for that damage and stun. He gets even more of a bonus if you have a WAR and/or MNK in your group.

I like the change to Aerial Slash because, as a frequent user of this ability, I get really frustrated when I tell Garuda-Egi to use it and she takes her sweet time... and then by the time it goes off (IF it goes off -- the ability will cancel if the mob dies), it's irrelevant or hitting less targets than it would have had it gone off when I told it to. As it is, I get annoyed at the (slight) delay of Contagion as Garuda-Egi 'queues' up her next move. So, this was a welcome change in my book. SMN did not really need a buff, at all, but I also think BLM didn't either... or at least not one as HUGE as this. The potency changes are really immense. o.O;;

Neither Dragoon nor Monks need any single target buffs, what we need would be an AoE buff because right now we're a laughing stock when it comes to AoE, sure we can do it but compared to BLM what we do is a joke.
Now that BLM single target is buffed I'd say an AoE buff for the other jobs is in order and I'm not talking about melees.
Either that or nerf BLM AoE because as it stands right now it's just silly.

I'm not complaining about the Single target buffs for BLM, far from it. I'm happy for the BLM and think the buff was needed.
However they do bring BLM closer to us, so I don't see why they don't push our AoE damage, I'm not talking about anything ridiculous as doubling it just a little tweak would already be enough.

We do not need AoE in serious content, I agree with that BUT serious content is limited and after you're done it's all about farming dungeons because of the constant grind SE puts us into.
Now that is where BLM blow us away even now and will do even more so in 2.3 after the ST buff because of their superior AoE and we're not talking about 10-30% here, we're talking about double the damage other classes do in AoE situations with an endless resource.

Granted everything is doable with any setup but we're talking about min-maxing here. You could also do any "serious" content with BLM yet we all agreed that they needed a buff.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.
DRG needs a sustained single target buff.
They buffed our Full Thrust potency to 330 from it's original 300 which was nice in 2.1. I'd like them to add the same percentage buff to the other 2 move in our combo making it (165-220-330)
As far as DRG Aoes our aoes are good imo

The AoE damage of BLM needs nerfing, and i'm VERY surprised that it didn't get nerfed. An inventive nerf to it would be to nerf the recast time of Transpose, to prevent the constant flare rotations. But, it could have the side effect of lowing single target DPS slightly (if its too long due to getting a firestarter proc at the end of your fire phase and using transpose and then the proc to go back into fire; if that happens twice in a row, transpose may not be back up). It could also hurt lower lvl players.

I have quite been absent from the ff14 fourms for quite some time. I donno what to think about these blm buffs, seems just really lazy as some big issues still need to be addressed which have been pointed out many times in this thread. I am fully aware movement really is not a big issue for blm. However unlike many of you good blm peeps, im one who suffers from not being able to use aetherial manipulation well because i cannot use mouse over macros. Ya i am someone who has to click to do their stuff as my hands refuse to cooperate as they should due to my disabilities. It took me a damn long time to get my hand to adapt to use q and e for strafing. Because I do have all my buttons cluttered up in a portion of the screen and everything else close to keep mouse movement to a minimum, clicking on a mouse over ability then moving my mouse doesnt work for me. attempting to adapt my hand to anything farther than q and e equate to me losing control over my hand (this has caused me to die a few times but my group atleast understood when i told them my hand either locked up or is trembling to where they would wait for me to recover before attempting again.). I have been trying to find other ways but so far I have not been successful and yes i have attempted to use tab or capslock but seperating my fingers that far causes constant lockups and me losing control over my hand.

Other than that I had not much of an issue with movement. Once i learn a fight , know where its best for me to be where i can get my optimal dps i preform rather well. but damn mastering a fight is mandatory for black mages, but then all classes for that matter, however black mages suffers the most in that learning phase. We do require more mastery over fights than other classes for sure. However, i do see that black mages suffer the most for simple mistakes compared to other classes. Mastery of the black mage is to commit the least ammount of mistakes possible. But ya i prefer to suffer a slight dps loss than causing a wipe (moving away from the bard who is heading my way while kiting cyclops on turn 7 and fireballs are about to be shot for example.) I bring up mistakes because damn in my old group our smn would make tons of bad desisions in positioning forcing him to move alot yet still his dps was still very high as movement due to mistakes was not much of a dps loss to him. If i were to commit those same mistakes, which sometimes i have, my dps loss due to movements via a mistake is very noticable. so yep encounter mastery is a biggie for a blm.

because of this i may retire from blm all together and adopt smn. this would atleast allow me to still preform well if i end up having issues with my darn hands. if only atherial manipulation was not o so dependant of having to use party members it be easier.

How about just making Flare have a recast time of something like 7-9sec instead? That'd be an AoE nerf of sorts yet wouldn't mess with the mana regen cycle. As a side note, it would end the "double flare" glitch that has been talked about many times.

Honestly, get a G600 or a similar mouse if that is your issue. I hate to say it, but they shouldn't balance a class based around the lower end of players (no offence, be it due to actual skill or disabilities) because it will ruin gameplay for every other class and be broken for the players that are very good. But you are going to have similar issues with other classes that have a lot more skills to use

But then with that you can't do Flare/Convert/Swiftcast/Flare which is a valid rotation (you are using a 1 min and 3 min cooldown to do it).

How about flare gets left alone. Don't touch our AOE.

I personally don't like Mouse Over, so I set AM to party number 2 and arrange the party menu at the start of an encounter too someone I believe will be positioning where I wish to AM to. (Usually Healer, Bard, SMN etc)

Oh most definitely. I am very happy with the slow gcd, it makes this game much more playable for me but yes i do struggle to adapt. I mean i was in a group where we were 3rd to 4th on our server to down turn 6thru 8 i took a break after a bit as i felt i was slowing down my group from taking down turn 9. ill eventually get my hands on a decent macro n work things out.

I'm not sure where you are coming from here drgs beats every other dps besides blm in burst aoe situations, I play with two dragoons on a very normal basis, one is in my static he is i110 with HA spear and the other is i106 with HA spear. Both of these dragoons can produce very scary aoe numbers on burst. ( only giving burst numbers since I'm not sure how to measure it otherwise since aoe is so limited in the games current state.) Anyway on Twintania after the drake phase I'll be at around 1400 dps or so.. something silly. Either of these dragoons are easily into 4 digits after this point also the i110 closer to me than the i106 obviously. Sometimes, crit depending they'll be only -100 or so from me, (which is not much with the scale of those numbers.) I think drgs are fine with aoe atm.

IF you nerf flare at all you'll be giving blm a hit to their single target also, since flare is in our raging strikes fire chain.

True, but look at it another way. BLM got a single target buff and should probably have some sort of AoE nerf to balance that. Given that there's been talk about the "Double Flare" rotation really being a bug, and that Flare is our main source of AoE damage, that is where I think any nerf should come from (assuming one is done at all). Messing with Transpose could cause all sorts of other issues that have nothing to do with our AoE ability.

Besides, you can still do the following even with a 7sec c/d: F3 - Flare - Convert - F2 - Flare - Transpose

I was thinking the same thing. It really sucks I was the only BLM downing T9 for more than a month in Fairie. Now there's 3 out of 5 groups.

I'm not 100% sure of the point you're trying to make, but don't forget to add Ifrit-Egi to the Summoner's damage -- then they are just one dps below the dragoon, who is the highest dps in the group. Considering the dragoon is just handling ballistic missile (minimal movement because everyone has to move at that point anyway), this makes sense. As a SMN, while popping towers, landmines, etc, I can just throw Ruin 2s while running so I'm not losing any damage as long as I'm not throwing away mana needlessly.

If you look at Ifrit-Egi's standalone damage, he doesn't need a buff in T8... but T8 is also a VERY exceptional fight because there is minimal movement and Ifrit-Egi can sit on the boss's butt literally the entire time, smacking away even on the rare occasions your group has to move. He isn't very viable in other fights, however, and this buff to Ifrit-Egi might be SE's way of trying to adjust that. Aka, "Summoners, use Ifrit more! The damage output was increased so he's more viable on more fights than just T8! On T8, though, he'll be even better than he already is!"

I might even argue that SE's thinking when they made these adjustments to Summoner was one of the ways they are trying to make the pets we use more of an option than just "Contagion is the best, always, and switching pets is silly." A thread was made a few months ago where summoners argued whether Garuda-Egi or Ifrit-Egi was better for T8. There were convincing arguments both ways. The mp saved from Contagion and the extra damage it adds during your burst rotation (int pot, RS, miasma 2, poison pot, contagion) is godly. Yet, at the same time, Ifrit's overall damage on that fight is too good to pass up, especially if you have a WAR/MNK. But then someone replied stating that he uses Garuda-Egi for his burst rotation+contagion, then switches her out for Ifrit-Egi at all other times in the fight. Perhaps SE is pushing us more toward this mode of summoning (blow your swiftcast on summoning a new pet)? Tests will need to be done of course, but that's my theorizing. It may also explain why Bio 2 is getting a reduction in mana cost... because they want us to be 'okay' with the idea of recasting our dots more often if we choose to use Ifrit-Egi.

If you nerf flare, you also nerf the single target rotation as its used under Raging Strikes with convert. I agree that an AOE nerf is needed, the AOE damage is obscene.

The double flare rotation - the problem with it is that its a bug where you will get a mana tick just after you use flare due to server latency. It needs fixing, but i'm not sure how they would do it.

Messing with transpose would be better, because it wouldn't really affect the single target DPS, and it would encourage more F2 usage. F3-Flare-Convert-F2-Flare-Transpose would still be a problem because the BLM AOE is crazy good when just doing F3, Flare, Transpose, F3, F2, Flare, Tranpose etc etc. The problem is that the low cooldown of transpose allows you to use flare too often. Changing the potency of flare will nerf the single target DPS and be a massive nerf to the class, but for transpose, it won't. You have 7 GCD's minimum between casts on single target (F1 x 5, B3, T1/T2).

I'm not really sure why you want Full Thrust combo to be stronger. Have you seen our other combos?

Impulse-Disembowel-Chaos is 180-220-500, for a total of 900 and an average of 300/GCD.
Phleb is 320/GCD.
True-Vorpal-Full is 150-200-330, for a total of 680 and an average of 226.67/GCD.
Heavy Thrust is 170/GCD (worst, but have to do it for the damage).

The main reason (we can assume) Full Thrust was even buffed is that its previous average potency (650/3=216.67) made it less enticing than using Fracture (220), which cluttered up the rotation.

Full Thrust is filler and nothing more.

Before you claim Phleb and CT aren't as good for burst as Full Thrust, you're wrong. CT combo will do more total potency than Full Thrust combo after 3 ticks with 690 potency. (as well as apply Disembowel anyways). Phleb will do more average potency after 3 ticks (245), and still does about as much at 2 (220). So unless add literally dies in 5 seconds, Full Thrust doesn't really win.

Either of these dragoons are easily into 4 digits after this point also the i110 closer to me than the i106 obviously. Sometimes, crit depending they'll be only -100 or so from me, (which is not much with the scale of those numbers.) I think drgs are fine with aoe atm.

IF you nerf flare at all you'll be giving blm a hit to their single target also, since flare is in our raging strikes fire chain.

Ah you're from Legacy. I thought about applying to that FC, but i dont know if I'd feel like leveling a second char lol. But yea I agree; DRG AOE is really nice. I tried it out myself and seen some others do great aoe with it. I dont think it gets enough credit with how close they can get to BLM. Of course I love blm for dat endless beautiful supply of MP xD

DRG Aoe is indeed very strong, however the least sustainable out of all classes. Even holy spam is cheaper, hence why DRG in speed runs only makes sense if the overall group dmg is very high (works well in a BLM/WHM/WAR combo).

Transpose is very important for Thaumaturges below level 38. Messing with it would most likely worsen the experience for players that want to start as one, and it already feels quite sluggish until level 40. I know that doesn't factor in with endgame in any way, but it's still important, as it is a lengthy chunk of the game.
