Only one disappointment : Why FF MRPG is not Turn Based JRPG... ...
Regardless of whether you like the game or not - it was a HUGE red flag to many of us legacy players when Yoshi said he made all of his DEVs play WoW, yet he and many of them had never played FFXI. He played DAOC and WoW. When your new/unheard of producer completely ignores/doesn't try the company's hugely successful (although niche) product and speaks of how he wants to make a MMO for everyone to enjoy (with the Final Fantasy name still attached to it) it concerned a good deal of us. The game shouldn't have been XI 2.0 or any other bit, but SE had experience and winning things from that game and the new producer completely ignored that fact. The only thing Yoshi pulled from FFXI was ripped models to make it easier/faster to get to the deadline for ARR 2.0.
Forget the amount of content in the game at release or even 5 months now, look at the type. It's all vertical progression/power creep with numerous time locks and artificial stops. While content might not be in endless supply (whether due to Yoshi & team's ineptness or the game just being still too new, pick one) vertical progression gear always has a very finite lifetime on it. It's used up quickly (hence so many time locks) whereas horizontal progression has much more lasting effects. You might be repeating the same instance a billionth time but the gear and other items gathered from it have a much more lasting and in the end higher replay value. It's not really an either/or between horizontal/vertical, but more of a nice mixture of both. This game has nothing close to that.
When 1.0 bombed Tanaka warned SE the game wasn't ready. Then alpha/beta in 1.0 went horrid with SE's ego (from FFXI's success perhaps?) ignoring all players' input on all the issues. When it bombed a few reviewers blamed Tanaka trying to reinvent the MMO 'wheel' and not sticking to a tried and true method. Bring in Yoshi who sits on the polar opposite and brings the WoW-train more casual approach. Yet besides ignoring the company's already established franchise XI he tried to reinvent the wheel himself with their attempts at WoW-like systems, many of these being the glaring problems people are having in terms of functionality and playability.
This isn't a point the finger and blame one person (Yoshi) type of post because there's a whole lot more going on than that. And I don't think Yoshi albeit went out of his way to cause a lot of the headaches that even he has started to see. A new person in the producer chair with little to no experience (he was unheard of until XIV: ARR) that had huge ideas and met reality and deadlines. I'm sure he's been humbled but thanks to tatemae and honne most of the community if any will ever know.
Blah this is a rambling rant. Make of it what you will.
I find this game fun. I have an i86 whm and i70ish tank and brd and have just started doing coil. My biggest complaint is its just too fast to level up DoW, DoM, and DoH. I think if leveling in this game was slightly slower, there would be more to do. Also CT should be able to be done with a FC instead of only pug alliances. FFXI was fun and I liked the way things were given at a slow pace. This game has the potential to cater to both hard core and casual gamers alike, I guess time will tell.
I just wish more bosses were like Titan, most bosses just get out-scaled too fast and become trivial. Most of my friends stopped playing already and i'm just waiting for my time to run out. The game has a lot of good ideas but it seems the dev team has a knack for messing up the implementation.
Seeing SE deleting threads where legacy members compare V1 to ARR is disappointing.. Why is it so embarrassing to let the community express their feelings ?
lets make live those thread , cause mod continuously closing thread that criticize the game....
My regret is not playing it sooner :)
I think crafting has the longest way to go before it gets good. The mechanics are nice but the integration to economy is just terrible. There's no need to buy gear pre 50 and at 50 crafted gear is completely pointless. Which begs the question what is this skill even for?
You can't wait huh? Let's try and rationalize as to why that could be....
1) It's about $10 worth. To me that's nothing. I'm married, have a job, a family, responsibilities, etcetera. To someone who either receives an allowance and/or has no reliable source of income and/or has no idea what it really means to sacrifice ("I can't wait" implies you are somehow bound and not exactly free) this could be a problem. In which case making a monthly commitment monetarily is not the most advised thing in the world to begin with.
2) You were talked into paying/borrowing money for a subscription by a friend only to find out that they've, yet again, jumped to another game after hearing it was oh so <3 and you can't wait to pawn noobs with them using bigazz guns.
3) You realize the enormous awesomeness of this game, are completely addicted, and lie in a public forum about how boring you think it is in order to try and tell yourself it's time to quit playing so much and take on more responsibilities in life.
See when an adult is in your presumed position, it's no big deal. However a child could have a huge problem with it, if that is in fact the case (don't know you so I'm not judging).
And to anyone who says, "cleared all content I so won!"...we all know you do not play 1-2 hours a day and someone should have a stern talking to with your parents.
No one believes you.
I'm talking about these...these things:
To make horizontal progression they would've needed a better stat system . It appears to be stack vitality or stack dex .
Diablo 3 had better itemisation than this game .
Regret FFXIV forums having to do the edit thing when on the FFXI forums, You are allowed to talk and post with out wondering if got the dreaded 1k words things then edited because over 1k words. This game still feels like its in the baby steps. Yet i believe once they take there crafting system to the next level it will be insane and once they get more end game content in place this game can be special and unique. FFXI never has lasted for over 10 years for a reason, beside it uniqueness and now I guess that game starting to get better again.
+ one all day, they rarely lock stuff and yet yesterday 2 threads on that same type of subject with people wanting the game to be more like 1.0 suddenly get locked, one which was not "off topic" at all....its there plainly to read and the last page is on topic clear as day. Maybe when a thread gets big enough they get scared of the negative press basically and need to shut it down. If they responded to it...even if its just a "this is how it is deal with it" type of response id be happy...because then id know to never to resub again.
People keep saying "oh your rushed to 50, etc" but its not hard to clear content. I paced myself... heck only hit 50 a month ago due to lvling crafts (almost all in 2 months because levequests make it so easy) and already have full DL and I am on Titan for the relic.
Even I think that's way to fast. I look what's next to do... Yay more of the same bosses.
Maybe Binding Coil is different.
Yeah, that was kind of surprising. That was the first time I have seen a locked thread, and as you said one of the topics were still on topic. The other one kept veering into Dark Souls for some reason.
Also, since when did the mods get so finniky about a thread "staying on topic"?
I think what most people seem to forget is they had less than 2 years to completely overhaul the original train wreck the game was, in fact the only thing left from the old game is the character design and lore. They even managed to continue the story and update the original game whilst building the new one.
It is no easy feat to build a whole new MMO in such a short time so it does not surprise me that not all of the features and content are there yet, but it will get there eventually.
The other thing is that people seem to forget is the developers asked the player base what they wanted, gave them options and implemented what higher percentage of people chose, whilst they were developing the game.
And from what I can see they are trying to give people what they ask for, but the problem is they can’t make everyone happy and things take time to implement.
Personally I think they did an amazing job for the time they had and I think a lot of the problems are more to do with the attitude of the current player base which is a lot more impatient than it was previously, they just want everything Now Now Now!
How about people slow down a bit to smell the roses and appreciate the work that has gone into making this game!
I'm afraid stopping to smell the roses planted by a company whose main purpose is to make money is just a good way to let them grow complacent and stop offering the best they can.
I do agree that it is quite a feat to have improved the game as much as they did, though. But there's still work to be done. I'll give them a pat in the shoulder and then push them forward so they can keep running and improving the game.
My biggest dissapointment with the game are all of the arbitrary restrictions like the design choice to make a lot of the dungeon gear undyeable, just to give an example.
I can only speak for myself but I DO like FFXIV. I just think that it has big issues that will affect its longevity. I think the game could and should be better, I offered just a few suggestions that would improve my personal experience. If SE doesn't listen, that's cool. I'll just keep subbing, play, enjoy myself. Until something more interesting comes along at least. Which looks like about 3 months. The thing is I'd actually prefer to stick with the same game especially after having done so much in it. I just foresee getting to a point soon where I won't be able to justify paying even a relatively low price of $12 a month.
On a side note though. I really, really don't get people complaining about people complaining. You can say "If you don't like the game, don't play." But what's the difference between that and me saying to you, "If you don't like the thread, don't read it or post to it?"
People tend to justify their own actions to the situation but blame the actions on other people on character traits (situational vs. dispositional attribution). Keep that in mind because while some people complaining may be "complainers" it's also possible that some people have legitimate issues. I know it might be hard to distinguish one type of person from the other. As a developer, I'd personally rather give people the benefit of the doubt. Burying my head in the sand would be really unlikely to resolve real issues that the game might have.
Whats the point of pacing yourself really with every update the previous content becomes irrelevant (Gear Treadmill!) so if this is the Endgame concept they are going with then they should give us substance to keep us interested until the next major update
I actually love and enjoy this game. I play at my own pace as I don't want to get everything done so I will be bored. Every time I log onto the game, I enjoy my time playing it. So no regrets or disappointments from me. Plus this game is more enjoyable than playing my original 1.0 character, but with a new and fresh one.
TERA is garbage I played that game for a year and it had one meaningful update Final Fantasy 14 at its current pace will have 4. In TERA everyone wanted to pay to get there gear and the questing and storyline were generic the boss fights were simple and can be plowed through easily because of simple mechanics. Every boss in TERA used the same mechanic I got the top gear by winging it.
The problem lies in the fact that they keep adding this content for the level 50 cap, and apparently the next level cap raise won't be until the next expansion. So who knows what names they'll come up with as an excuse to bring these mobs back as a challenge for the new cap....Epic? Legendary? Zero?
I understand what you're saying here but I really wonder if you will still be thinking the same way once your PUG/MNK hits 50 and you run into alot of the melee dps walls that people put up in endgame battles. I'm not saying that all fights will be 'no melee dps' but you will encounter quite a few. I for one have no problem with DRG and MNKs in my groups. But from my experience I have come across alot of players (not calling them elitists or anything else derogatory) that will frown in a primal fight at having monks or even dragoons in the group and have left the group just because of that. And if they don't leave right away, the minute a melee dps gets hit or dies by an aoe, they ragequit.
My biggest disappointment is the community...
More specific, Bad Duty Finder players, Rage Quitters, nay sayers, negative people for the sake of being negative, trolls, NOOBs, not new players, but noobs, people who refuse to learn. Forum trolls, and the list goes on. The game can always be fixed.. the community on the other hand... I expected better.
I'm actually in a very good FC with some friends from real life, and they all help one another on the game. I know I will run into those types of people, but it happens. I had issues running Brayflox Longstop with my WAR (my FC friends helped me with the dungeon) due to my game being on a windower at 1280x720 (I'm on a laptop; I don't want to do full screen right now because I don't want my laptop overheating; it's almost on its last legs, so I'm getting a custom built desktop sometime in the near future, which will be a gaming rig) and I could not view the camera angle very well while tanking the first mini-boss, so we kept failing. It wasn't entirely my fault because I was using a windower and a small one, too, so I couldn't see the added monsters coming along with the boss. So yeah lol
I agree with all of the Op except the part about ps3 players. fates instead of exp parties. instance dungeons That can't be entered anytime with any amount of people. mosters with no loot and week long lock outs are all bad ideas. nothing that can kill you nothing to discover, quested exp. easy to get top end game gear etc etc. they tried to hard to be different fromm ffxi and ended up with a boring game that basicly an online multy player game with crap to do in between match making.
bad gramner and spelling i know typing from my phone. probably gonna cancel my sub when it expires on the forth. i don't even enjoy capping mytho tomes or collecting loot any more. FFXI from 2007 with better grahpic and a lil bit of speeding up would have been a perfect game.
I am reserving judgement till after the first expansion. FFXI did not have much in it till RoZ; so I am willing to wait around and see if XIV follows that pattern to add real depth. Until then I will slowly plug away at gear and achievements, and take frequent breaks.
Last post, but will bring up a few points that everyone is saying. You have a number of people saying don't rush content. Most people aren't "Rushing" it. We find friends and we group with them. We do well and then try something else. We have fun with a challenge. We go do other things. Do well. All of a sudden we're out of crap to do except work on turn 5. Aside from that, everyone except a first time 50 should have mostly dark light or 55 gear because the 55 gear drops to the floor all the time even the 60 gear does. The dark light is super cheap with how easy it is to get 1000+ philos a day now.
A good number of people say that they limit how much they play to make it last. Why? You limit how much you play you limit connections. You limit connections you limit community.
People talk about it being elite vs casual. It is not. Some of the most "casual" people can get to end game content in this game and clear most of it. This is because there is little difficulty in it.
People talk about accountability... They are right. There is none. You can't be booted out for anything but VERY specific things. Bad DPS or queing up in gear that isn't for your job(mostly accessories)? Perfectly fine. Kicking someone for doing such a thing? Not fine. Overall I can't think of a game with a worse player base than this one that is a typical MMo(which this game is a VERY typical MMo despite what you all say. Even the 'action' mechanics fade compared to Tera even if it didn't deliver on half the content it said it would have or the player governing actually being dynamic like it said it would). This game tried so hard to be a final fantasy WoW/Rift thing with a little action thrown in. This doesn't make it a great game.
And say what you want about FFXI's original release, it was on the ps2 and it did have a much larger world to explore and the game FELT dangerous. If you say it wasn't you never ran to jeuno without an escort. You never went to Qufim and found out that night fell. You never attack a leech because it was Easy prey and then found 5 of them attacking you because the concept of linking was a little foreign to you. You never tended garden to make ends meet or run BCNM's with your friends that were challenging but sometimes very rewarding. That game had plenty to make it fun and it FELT LIKE A WORLD rather than a collection of instances.
As for the PS3 players, as said... They are not all bad. But i've met far more of them that are bad players than PC players. Be it because of the systems constraints(which it might be, although a few FC members play ps3 and do just fine) or the fact that it's just a cheaper and larger install base than performance PC's I can't tell you. I also couldn't give you an exact %. I just know that in my coil or CT or other 8 mans i built my static was always leery when we heard "Oh i'm on PS3" because we got burned far too often when we had someone who couldn't log on and we had to rep for the night.
As for most people Thank you VERY much for staying constructive even if you agreed with me or disagreed. For those that didn't, you're probably the type of people who I was talking about and just got offended.
stop saying its only the community...
CT cannot be premade of 24, is a choice of SE , and could have strenghen FC
bland stat system , bland itemization, bland combat system makes the community bored, we dont have anything to speak of
look at the forum, nothing interessant to speak of, only FC recruiting, people learning the basics, bug report
OR combat system/economics/itemization/crafting/gathering complain
the game is so poor right now
and what about SE communication ? where is the roadmap ?
As much as I would like to agree with you, this is what I mean with community issues. You say the stat system is bland, explain it suggest a fix. Itemization is bland, what do you even mean? how would you like it to be? You used the word bland to describe three very different things and no explanation of why it bothers you what you would like and how it can be fixed...
People make posts with suggestions and they are always buried by "no"s with no feedback. Or they just get told "your idea is stupid" with out saying anything else. You want SE to communicate yet your post has nothing they can possibly do. You are not specifying anything, most forum posts are so abstract that if SE did anything or did nothing you could say they are "answering our posts".
ok Chayala your in my FC and i agree with some stuff you say but there is alot of content it just like other have said here it all to easy. also alot of mmo when they first come out dont have alot to do in the end and that cuz alot of mmo are trying to caterer to causal player. look at Tera online there was nothing to do at start, star wars the same, secret world the same but that cuz ppl burn threw everything then cry when they reach the end. this stuff take time to come out and everyone burn threw it, ff 11 didn't have shit at first ether i was there at start there was nothing noone can tell me it had alot to do in the end but hey it turned out good after awhile ppl just need to be patient and yea S.E need to make stuff harder no against causal player but there need to be away to please both. lvling need to be harder and i hope when level cap raised it will be.
I know why people are getting tired of it and try to compare.
Like FFXIV: ARR, it is doing the straight line effect, if you are confused this means You have to do one of everything to continue to the next there is no going out of order with things its based around level and items level.
In FFXI people had a choice, go do sky or do missions, maybe their rank, go hunt a NM, burn circle fights, you were not put on a straight line or at least they made it feel like you were not till SOA came out cause then most of the content needed you to be with large group of people to do or get anything not saying it wasn't there before but some content you could do with 2-3 people or a few friends.
FFXIV: arr says basically you have to be 50, you have to be 60 item level you have to be this or you cannot do these things but then its impossible to do because people kick and people cant get the stuff to move forward and makes it frustrating for some so they quit
But I do get the forcing people to go with others- people had a choice in FFXI and if you say they didn't you're wrong I soloed a lot of stuff I didn't need help, due to crooked LS leaders who got their items or ran off with the gil bank and I had a LS with old members we only needed a few people to win.
it was by choice- Yeah you have a choice in FFXIV but its very little and it expected but not really after 5 years and ive been noticing around 6 updates for ffxi compared to ffxiv couple around same time thats where I wonder what is up.
The rehashing of primal fights felt like a real let down every freakin time they did it. Really SE, with all the free-reign in the world and FF lore to call upon?! The best they could come up with was "Extreme"?! Why not just put an email out RE: Yup, out of ideas already. I want to believe that the team put their heart and soul into resurrecting FFXIV but when they put out content like that not once but twice... *headdesk*
This thread gonna be derailed just watch... GM close incoming.
Ok I didn't want to write but here it goes.
PvE wise I'm comin from Funcom titles (Age of Conan - The Secret World). I played Age of Conan for around 5 years and for 2 years and a half and we had 5 lvl 80 dungeons that wouldn't even drop half decent gear, but dropped craft recipes that were nice to have.
Two tiers of raid. First tier was 3 bosses, 2nd tier 10. And thats all we had for 2 years and a half - 3 years, then 3rd tier came out (about 10 bosses in), a bonus tier with 3 bosses and last tier, the fourth one, with like 10 - 11 bosses too + 12 / 15 new dungeons that all had their hardmodes and they were all great, every single of them.
I think now they are 2 new dungeons 2 years after that the last tier of raid was released (with 0 new dungeon in between), another one is comin + a new "subsidiary" 12 man raid instead of 24.
The Secret World.
8 dungeons. in 3 different difficulties. 1 raid that got 66 hours of lockout and that not even take 15 mins to down if you do it properly. It have only one boss.
And 1 "joke raid boss".
Thats all the game / endgame. And I really don't exagerate.
Still its very enjoyable because well ... its just a game.
FF XIV compared to that ? fucking christmas if you ask me.
