why is this thread still alive?
Because everyone on the internet came together one morning, had a private meeting, without you, and decided that we should keep this thread going until the end of time in order to remind you of past failings and broken futures, while living rent-free inside your head and filling in ad-space for your eyes.
That, and the issues presented in the thread haven't been resolved. But it's probably mostly just the first thing. :)
I think that's pointless. I stand by all the people that take issues with healing and their 'button bloat' excuses. At this point however part of me believes this is where they want to go and no matter how much we complain.. they will continue to strip away the identity of every job. We all tried bringing back some semblance of 3.0 DRK but failed. Only Living Dead and Blood Weapon got fixed which is a miracle in itself.
Yeah this has me convinced the devs have a serious infatuation with Warrior that they
can't see that healers have been BORING AS FUDGE for years but let War's self heal so much they
can clear content without healers at all so there's nothing to do but spam 111111111111 LOL.
If you want tanks to heal so hard or have low heal checks in general, then give us DPS buttons to mess with ffs.
Convinced Yoshi never in his life played a healer or there are any healers in the team at all.
WE DON'T WANT TO SPAM 111111111-2-1111111111.
Please understand.
Also, obligatory:
PLEASE FIX AST. GIVE OLD CARDS BACK.
I like how the whole thing was taken out of context but the "thread full of healers" are using it to full their drama.
I do think healers need changes but lmao at you guys using this as "proof".
I would be very curious to hear in which context telling your players to "fuck off and go play the one piece of content you release once in 2 years if they don't like being reduced to pressing a single button hundreds of times" is ok.
Ah yes, they would still press that single button hundreds of times in that content too, btw.
The question asked was litterally "why don't healers have a more engaging feeling in content like dungeons n raids?" and it was basically responded with "well we want healers to be friendly to new people." OK cool no one argued that. Most healers just want to have a more meaningful contribution instead of a 1 button rotation a dot and using a ogcd for the sake of using something not that single cast. Then they said "if u want something to heal go do ultimate".
tbf if you're coming from WoW (classic at least) lots of players are used to one button rotations (hunters, warlocks, etc), anything more engaging than that is oppressive in it's complexity for some.
(i should note that that is a joke, nobody should ahve to deal with that in any game)
It is proof. Proof that they don't listen like they say they do.
The entire question was here:
As written by @Recon1o6Quote:
Healers are feeling increasingly irrelevant and boring due to the lack of damage to heal and lack of damage options to use, and this has gotten worse in endwalker.
Are there any plans to increasing the amount of healing required in all content and address the lack of damage options healers have except glare/broil/malefic/dosis which has been a major complaint since shadowbringers?
Many healer veterans feel alienated by the current direction of healing taken since shadowbringers and have quit the role. Sage, despite being a new healer does not address these issues as it still has the same 1 basic spell and 1 damage over time and almost nothing to heal.
There has been a lot of frustration in endwalker over healer concerns in shadowbringers not being addressed in endwalker.
Incoming damage does not match the strength of healing power and the lack of anything to do except press glare/broil/malefic/dosis makes them very boring to play.
-Asphodelos first circle (normal) have been solo cleared by warrior, paladin and as of today gunbreaker
-Aspholedelos first circle (savage) has also been cleared with a team of 8 warriors and 8 gunbreakers with no healer
-Both extreme trials have been cleared without healers.
-Dungeons are increasingly being farmed for tomestones or loot by 1 tank and 3 dps.
-Delubrum reginae was beaten solo as well recently without a healer
-Eden's Gate Sepulture (savage) was also cleared without healers when it was current content.
-The ultimate coil of bahamut was cleared without healers or dps
The question was 1. butchered and not properly translated and 2. was ultimately answered with "go play Ultimate if you want harder content".
YOU TELL ME in what part of this question does it ASK FOR HARDER CONTENT?
"Increasing the amount of healing required"? You can limit that to EX and Savage. They haven't.
Giving more dps options? I didn't play in SB but they had more dps options and healers could still clear content just fine.
"Go play Ultimate" is a piss poor answer.
Hey, alright. I get it. You're fed up and I don't honestly blame you. Sorry if I came off as dismissive. I just also see people being kinda mean to people who otherwise don't do anything wrong outside of say "i still find healer complicated." Which clearly you disagree with and frankly I also disagree with. I feel like the most realistic expectation would include some kind of scaling curve but as you've pointed out there just isn't any indication that they even want to TRY a halfway approach or whatever. Just chop it all down. In the end we agree. That's all that matters here.
Give us more than one ultimate per expansion then at least =^)
I tell my static I want to swap to healer for the night if I want to give my wrists a break (I have wrist problems). The answer isn't calling it a night, it's play a healer.
There's way too many redundant healing spells and not enough dps options. There's literally no argument here. Easier content doesn't utilize even half of your healing kit. The harder ones gradually use less and less as the rest of the party gets comfortable and does your job for you. What's left? Broil/Glare/Dosis/Malefic. The mechanics in encounters don't help either, most have been reduced towards a wipe if you fail the mechanic.
I admit I don't main healer so I tried to refrain from posting, but I want to help by adding my voice here with my own experience. I had a lot more to say, but I'd be making a huge wall of text doing so.
Nah air out your complaints. I'm not even a hardcore healer and I do the same because if I am dissatisfied, if people below my skill level are as well, it means it isn't just the "hardcore number crunchers" who have issues.
If people who don't main healer can also see the problems with the class, all the more. Cause it highlights that the problem isn't just in high end play its also in low end as well.
Tera has the best action oriented combat in the entire mmorpg industry and the most classic take on the trinity system.
The only issues healers ever had on that game is that one(Priest) was a lot better than the other(Mystic) for awhile due to the nature of the other's kit, this was fixed in later patches.
Tera overall is a trash game I don't recommend anyone play but I do recommend you play a healer on that game until max level and just do dailies and see what could've been.
There were literal fights where you would heal yourself to draw aggro of mobs and just kite them in circles while your party dpsed(Manya's Core).
That's really the sad reality, isn't it? Just about any MMO does the whole MMO thing better than FFXIV when it comes to combat and, depending on what they mean by "focusing on solo experience", they could gimp themselves to the point where they're completely consumed by everything else, effectively staying at the top only by the fervent fanboyism and nothing else.
Kind of like a certain other game that made everyone go wow.
You put it a lot more eloquently then I've been explaining it to my friends the past few weeks. The constant parroting of "Oh we can't make healers too complicated we don't want the baby healers to be stressed."
When you can literally clear all content with 4 GCD spells: Single Target GCD, DoT GCD, Single target heal GCD, AoE heal GCD. The rest is just fluff, a matter of efficiency.
If they're struggling to clear content with 4 buttons it doesn't matter what you do they're still going to struggle.
Edt: I forgot lucid dreaming.
It doesn’t take any sort of esotericism to spot the issue. Several of my friends also had the same thought process over the course of their progression:
1. Starts as a new healer, is loving the job fantasy and aesthetic.
2. Learns how to deal damage & keep the DoT up. Typically tries to top up party’s health in ARR dungeons/trials
3. Sometime later partied with me for dailies and ask why I do not heal. Then it clicked in their mind: their 1-2 casts of Medica II/Asp Helios/Succor/E.Prognosis was enough to let the party survive. The healing amount needed varies between duties but in general it tells them how powerful healers’ tools and how pushover the actual damage intakes are. This gets even more obvious to them if they’re a tank main before starting their healer experience.
4. ”So I want to do something to help the party when healing isn’t needed… I just press… 1 button?” Yes my friend, 1 2 1 1 1 1. From lv4 to lv90.
5. At some point they either continue healing because duty roulette says they have to be there or just straight up drop the role after maxing it out because the idea of getting entertainment only when people mess up stupidly was unfun to them even if they do not seriously optimize their gameplay.
Bonus point: dies in dungeon/trial as a healer when the boss was still at 70%. The party went by on their own while my friend tanked the floor for the rest of the fight. Must be nice to know that you’re not even needed in actual duties & can just afk.
Oh I absolutely agree. I just didn't want to add to the discussion with the concern that I wouldn't be fully informed, as I dislike that. I do however, have a lot of friends who mained healer and have discussed the issues with me over the years.
For the bonus point, I see that happening often in my dungeon runs, and sometimes extends to the tanks too. Also, whether this be the encounter being flawed or not, my static has done no healer runs in savage before, with a RDM to assist when its needed only. Solo healing savage/ultimate is also another point where the focus shouldn't be that the players in said encounter are good at their jobs, but rather the fights enabling them to do so with practically zero risk. If I ever gather my thoughts properly I'll write again.
Honestly, we need all the perspectives we can get, whether it's someone totally new, the top healer in the universe, or anything in between. If there are so many testimonies about the state of healing being poor, from multiple levels of play, then it's only a matter of time before they and their defenders run out of excuses to cycle through.
In the other recently opened thread, someone posted a video that was an interesting view into how much they tune the game to healing. Now granted, it's Sastasha; the first dungeon, the easiest dungeon, and they pulled one group at a time with the Duty Support NPCs. However it says something when they can get away with doing absolutely nothing, and I wonder how far you can go and still get away with that. I don't know, of course, but imagine getting through entire expansions doing nothing at all but moving your character a little bit at a time.
Don't worry about it, miscommunications happen. I'm a snarling, angry former healer main who despises the direction healer design has taken since Heavensward. I crack that whip every chance I get. The chuckling, dismissive way Square talks about the role makes it even more infuriating.
Bro just do ultimate. /s

Even if it is, I can’t sit idly by and allow the neglect to continue without saying anything. Especially after I’ve already watched other jobs I’ve loved in the past become shadows of themselves—from HW DRK to SB BRD and AST. Better to complain to a brick wall than to sit by and do nothing. Especially since silence is so often misconstrued as complacency when it comes to this game.
At least then, I can say I tried.
not gonna read 100 pages but I'm sure everyone is already aware that the problem is every job has a huge overabundance of OGC skills that basically all do the same thing which somehow leads to a lot more buttons for super homogenized classes.
Like every tank has so many OGC defensive skills they had to boost boss damage to need more than one at a time. One of the biggest constant complaints about dark knight is "i have to reserve a bit of my resources for a defensive cooldown? that's total BS!!"
every healer has so many OGC heals that bosses need to just do waves of aoe constantly to begin to use them up. It's actually to a point where the discussion for WHM is "is it worth it to use three healing spells over the course of a minute to charge afflatus misery?" It's really weird
on the other hand maybe braindead is what the casual players want, it does seem to be working after all =/
Not necessarily for the healer population, though I guess I can't really check the numbers on that. If I go by the most recent lucky bancho census numbers, then it could be suggested that healers currently represent the smallest population of the playerbase across most, if not all, levels, but I'll be honest and say that I don't really know how much, or well, that census represents anything, and I may actually be interpreting it incorrectly.
Ah correct. HW and StB DRK were effectively smoked after the release of ShB (StB DRK had its issues) but the changes weren't warranted. They removed about 50% of abilities and I was there thinking.. Shit, this is it. No more main for the next 2 years.
This behaviour they have only came in ShB. Before I'm not sure they were as arrogant to believe people will follow their decisions. Imagine Yoshi P would have said during the E3 panel on ARR: "Guys, if you want a good MMO go play WoW".
Developers are out of touch because the success got to them.
Think about it like. There will be some casuals that start to main healer. They might start to like what responsibility the job offers amd wants to play the job MSQ. Or maybe somebody who starting grinding up WHM, AST, or SCH from lv 1 / 30 to what ever the max lvl is. At some point they gonna notice that outside of dng where they have to babysit other players the healer are really boring when there is nobody else to heal and you dont take that much dmg.
You know there is more than just dungeons and ultimates in this game. We have fates, side quest, hunting and overworld monster.
I said the samething in another forum. And apparently i am echo-ing Askellington sentiment on healers.
100% agree. Despite our criticisms about healers and the direction of the game, all of us still love FFXIV. We just want to see the game improve and not get worse over time. Doing nothing will get us nowhere, even though the devs don't listen to us 100% of the time. Apathy is death. If we say nothing, then nothing will ever happen in the future.
Yeah its been brought up. Multiple times. Hence why I call out my quote when people say "go do raids, go do EX, go do Savage" and YoshiP's "go do Ultimate".
Ultimate isn't even 10% of the game. That's 90% healers are NOT being tested. Are NOT having adequate engagement as per their kit asks of them (to do more healing). And Ultimate doesn't even really test healers either.
Further why is it only Ultimate that requires high amounts of healing? We have EX and Savage of trials and raids respectively. They can't get more frequent damage? Why? Give me a good reason SE.
Going back to Dungeons/Fates/Deep Dungeons/MSQ, why should I have to level up two different classes to not be bored to tears when an MSQ quest comes along that requires me to go into a solo instance for me not to be bored? Why should I be punished for picking healer as my starting class and have to suffer with 2 dps options: a nuke and a 30s dot (which I'll point out SGE doesn't even get until 30 WTF?) when no other role in the game has to do the same thing?
Are you seriously going to sit there and tell me "well, healer isn't meant to do solo duties"?
1. Why? Give me a legitimate reason as to why CNJ, WHM, SCH, AST and SGE when you get it are not supposed to do solo duties.
2. Why then can we START as CNJ if we're not meant to play through the MSQ as one? Why not have us start at 15 where we can spam dungeon options?
3. What if I want to level healer then? If I'm telling you 90-95% of the content is boring to play as a healer: Dungeons, Raids, Deep Dungeons, Fates, MSQ what then? Suffer through it to get to the fun stuff? FOR 20(SGE)/60(SCH/AST)/90(CNJ-WHM) LEVELS?
4. If SE wants to make this game more solo friendly, shouldn't they also be obligated to fix the 2 button dps issue then? If some poor SoB (me) picked CNJ GUESS WHAT THEY'LL BE DOING FOR 86 LEVELS? SPAMMING 21111111111111111111111111111111111111
"Don't play the role if you don't like it then".
I'm supposed to like pressing 2 buttons for most content? Ok. Would tanks or dps like to press 2 buttons for most content? No. Why should only healers suffer that?
I've played healer forNEARLYOVER a decade. Tell me if I think FFXIV's healers are the worst I've ever seen, the most boring and uninspired I've ever seen, the most unfun I've ever seen that it's just me and not the game. I don't THINK its me. In fact I KNOW it isn't me. The healing role is G A R B A G E. And there is nothing excusable about its state. None.
Also @Ralt21 if you thought you were stepping on my toes, nah. I'm agreeing with you wholeheartly and I'm glad to see someone else thinks this argument is complete BS and talking about it. I'm just using your quotes to emphasize.
