This assumes that people know they're not playing well/need to improve.
I saw another Ice mage at 75 yesterday. Instance took an absolute age. Not the end of the world, but you have to ask how do people not get introduced to basic rotations?
They don't get introduced to basic rotation because there is no demonstrable base-level of skill required in the game. That's fine, of course, but it creates an issue where you lose a good chunk of the player base to ignorance - then they get stuck at a certain level.
If we had internal DPS meters (how they would be implemented is a different matter) - there would be a demonstrable DPS average where said Ice mage could see that their play is falling well below what the community expects and may start to look at what they're doing wrong.
Yes, this doesn't apply to everyone. Yes, some people will not engage. But having a bare minimum idea of the DPS you should be doing vs the DPS on your screen could move a good chunk of the player base forward without them being clueless and having a big wake up call if they want to progress into organized content.
