Please, don't speak again. As someone who works in the Industry I can tell you that would *kill* the MMO industry.

I agree with OP...I paid for Early Access. We are the soft launch before it actually really hard launches to the public.
I too understand bugs exist but these issues seem to have been known way before Early Access. I received error 9000, 10102, and connection lost message all day today.
For those of you comparing Japanese server stability to NA/EU server stability, take one thing into consideration, traffic differences.
Consider, if you will, the size of the entire population of Japan vs the size of the entire population of the US + a good bit of Europe's population.
Now, considering that about the same percentage of each population are gamers, you have what roughly ten times the number of people on the NA/EU servers as on the Japanese servers.
Now, take into consideration the fact that the Japanese server set is about the same size as the NA/EU server set.
So you have at the bare minimum, assuming a much larger percentage of Japan is playing than NA/EU people, at least 5 times as many people on the NA/EU servers without any extra servers to shoulder the load.
What we have here is a simple overload. They did not expect the game to generate anywhere near as much interest as it did on the NA and EU markets. I do believe that is the primary source of the issues. The servers are overloaded and thus overworked, which is what is leading to so many errors.
I just rolled a character on a JP server. Gives me something to do while waiting for NA servers to come back up.
EA=Beta test 5
Well...yeah I'm frustrated too, and so is everyone else. Early access is no longer beta and the devs need to get their act together. Three days until launch and the bugs and errors that affect the game and its players this badly makes me concerned.
However, being optimistic as I always I am, I gotta say that they've crafted quite a good game (minus these bugs and errors). Let's just hope they're able to recover from this asap.
Have the JP servers had nearly as many problems as the NA ones? Not horribly upset, just asking...
Why are people complaining about something that was to be expected? Not only did they have beta people going on the servers but they also had pre order people joining aswell which could have been a huge amount for all we know and SE did not exspect the traffic to be this high. This is normal for a start of a mmo so just wait till things level out abit before repeating dozens of other posts
I looked at technical support forum on Japanese forum there are only 4 threads. Wow it looks like they are having a lot better time.
I have to agree with the OP on this one. I love this game but the issues that are causing downtime should have been resolved during several months of closed beta testing. If the excuse is that the traffic is higher than it was during closed beta, then the open beta should have lasted longer than a day. I say a day before the majority of us were locked out the majority of the weekend due to errors.
a "majority" of us were not locked out...simple mathematics will tell you that...i was locked out from mid day Saturday CST so I got very little time in Phase 4...but look at the numbers and be objective...
Yeah it's kinda sucky with all of the server problems but in my experience mmo's usually suffer these problems for the first week or so. I guess we just gotta try be patient :)
Anyone who deluded themselves into thinking a HEADSTART is "release" for an mmo obviously have never been through MMO headstarts before. The headstart is a perk that the dev's throw our way for those of us willing to preorder. It is no more than another beta test that allows the users to carry over character information to the live release. EVERY mmo headstart had downtime and maintenance for numerious bugs. Aion, Rift, SWTOR i could go on and on with all the mmo whose headstarts ended up being mostly downtime. If this is your first mmo headstart then let this be a lesson to you. Its nothing more than another beta test. Expect it next time.
Hey this is about what happens with MMO's when they first come out.
Vanilla WoW's launch: Unplayable for close to 48 hours (People even forget that Blizzard shut down servers for 24 hours to "increase" their capacity half way through the expansion) TBC: Oh you lost all your stuff due to the server crashing 15 times, whoops.
Guild Wars 2 launch: Whoops, we didn't make the servers large enough for everyone to play. Force crashed the server at least every hour for 72 hours.
Guild Wars 1 launch: What's a server? Oh we forgot to give you guys extra ones, sit in that 2 hour queue to log in...SIT IN IT
SWG: Yeah that mess was interesting....
City of Heroes/City of Villains: You wanna play your game? Good luck, for the next 2 weeks cuz, likelihood is you won't.....
Planetside: You call that lag? Server crashed 22 times in under an hour due to volume of people logging in....
Rift: You wanna do what? Zone out? How do you zone out from your Desktop?
Diablo 3: ERROR 37. NO NEED TO CONCERN YOURSELF HERE.
Anyone who thinks a game fresh out of a beta launches perfectly is stupid. Games going from Beta -> Live always have issues due to how the process is handled. Also in Beta they never get the sheer volume of people they do when it goes live. I'm happy they are fixing it now instead of Tuesday when everyone else who couldn't pre-order get's super pissed.
Hmm fyi I did ping both the NA/Eu server set and the JP server set and received a difference of about 10 to 15 ms average from the pacific time zone, soo if the updates and errors on the NA servers are bothersome just head over to a JP server.
In all honesty I'm not all that worried, errors and bugs will appear and get fixed. ^^
Ehh what world are you living in? There are always problems when you get early access, and when a game goes to live launch. Rift, Tera, WoW, Everquest, Guild Wars 1 & 2, even FF11 had problems when it first came out, but this is expected with any new release.
There will always be bugs in a game, but they do try to fix them in a timely manner.
Hey nothing and no one is perfect all we can do is wait for them to come up with a solution for the problem, so maybe in the meantime you could try a little patience, but if bugs really bug you then maybe mmo games are not for you.
Here's some info... we didn't have nearly as many issues with 1.0 as we do 2.0 in terms of accessability... if they rewrote the game as a patch(or group of patches to be more precise) or expansion we would have alot less issues.
Would like to point some of those issues you mentioned are not even Square's fault. For example the cinematic issue with half being displayed. That was a horribly done security update by Microsoft involving video securities. It is not just this games cinematics that were affected by this.
I'll state it again, since people only ever read the last page of any thread:
We paid for early access. It's not a beta. It is the FINISHED RETAIL PRODUCT. SE is absolutely responsible for how shitty this EA has been. There's no argument about it. That's what they promised, and either they're guilty of false advertising, or their EA (which again, is effectively a three day early FULL LAUNCH) has been absolute shit thus far.
Second, why people are comparing it to other launches is absurd. First of all, you don't strive to be like your competitors in business, you strive to be better, because better product = more sales. The fact that you people are excusing this sad excuse for a launch by saying "they're all shitty" is just sheer insanity. As the consumer, you decide on the quality of the product you buy. If it's bad, don't buy it. Don't just be satisfied because it's "not worse" than any other launch you've experienced.
Also, aren't we supposed to learn from our mistakes? If game launches have been this bad for 5, 10, however many years, why are more people not complaining?????????????? These launches continue to be shitty because these companies don't have to put any effort into them. The ignorant, mindless fanboy masses will still stand in lines 500 strong and THROW their money at them. You're not getting anything you don't ask for, so start asking for what you paid for.
For the record, I think this is far and away the most fun MMO I've ever played. I think the controls on the PS3 are very well thought out, very natural and easy. I think the gameplay is engaging and thrilling and wonderful. I think the crafting system is brilliant.
The problem is, those things don't matter when the server is down. The lobby screen isn't so beautiful that I want to look at it for 3 hours. And don't tell me to go do something else. I paid for a service, and I expect that service. To have 2 emergency maintenance in the first 24 hours of launch is laughable.
EDIT:
This made me lol. Another poor shlub calling this another beta. Settle for your subpar product.
Well I can't speak for everyone, but I'm having a great time! Sure I can't do instances/dungeons that some of my quests/story need, but I've been levelling other jobs, doing field levequests and just generally having a blast!
Hopefully they'll be fixed by tomorrow, but I can see tons of fun things to do if they're not!
I'm happy for you mister level 22 Conjurer.
However, those of us that didn't play beta4, and couldn't wake up at 4am...
Hit level 10, and cannot continue. No professions. No levequests. No transportation to select new classes.
Yeh.. not much of a fun release day for me.
2 and what was fixed nothing was. They had all this time to plan and could even estimate player numbers because of sales of pre orders, beta applications, follower on twitter and facebook and so on. It comes down to 1 thing, either they wanted to play it cheap and not go full blown for the server because who knows how many will actually still play once the free play expires or they just did not prepare enough because not enough care. Building a game up which has been advertised for way over a year, not learning from 1.0 errors and issues but still thought everything was going to run "according to plan," ultimately has ruined it for a lot of new players. Some players from my 1.0 LS are now not even going to play because they cannot play with their friends who are new to the game because of server restrictions. Call it what you want, but early access is release, some customers cannot cancel their preorders, so essentially it is paid for already, but with everything stated, this release was a total flop.
I'm glad some of you are having fun and enjoying the wait. I'm not. I can't get into the game at all. Not even load screen because my pre-order code (ordered and entered in July) is not valid. I have played in 3 betas. This game is a 2.0 version. This means they had a 1.0 (which I played and quit). This is not a new release MMO. This is a revamped game which was messed up in the beginning. And looks like it still is. I so enjoyed beta.
If someone promised you something, gave you a taste of it, took it away and gave you something different. Something you didn't expect. Why wouldn't you be upset? If you're chipper after all that, what does that say about your mentality? That promises don't matter to you?
btw, if you're on something, send it my way. I need to be a little bit chipper as you can see.
"Some" would be plural.
You pointed out one..
Just sayin...lol
Don't get all bent out of shape people.
The game is going to be great when they iron the bugs out.
Just hang in there..
We hung in there this long.
Side note:
Am I crazy or do some of these posts, seem like they must be from people,
who work at SE or something?
Just the wording alone is suspect.
Then you throw in the post count
Why would someone make this topic their very first post?
It makes no sense.
They obviously came to the technical section of these forums for a reason..
Registered for a forum account for some reason, other than to post in this topic..
Why would the first post be here of all places?
Makes absolutely no logical sense to me. XD
Spock from Star Trek 2000:
"If you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
Am i the only one that is slightly concerned about the amount of influence the duty finder server has on the rest of the game? I tried to get my Chocobo today. I bought the issuance and went to turn it in only to find he wasn't responding because somehow it was also governed by the Duty server. So the duty finder server covers pretty much anything to do with cutscenes, story or other wise, plus dungeons, character placement and god knows what else.
No wonder it crashed when nearly every aspect of the game must check in with this server. They need to assign more processing power to these servers considering their vital importance to the running of the game. I found it very concerning that these servers were carrying such a large part of the game. Why did the JPN servers get off scott free? Because thay have the same amount of servers dedicated to one region as the whole world. They need to spread the load a little. -.-
The pre order bonuses and early access are a marketing tool to get you to buy the game earlier.
This will give them a bit more of a clear view about how many people are interested and already some cash.
It also plays on the hype and the nature of most MMO players, being there at the start.
I wouldn't view upon this as a 'mercy gift'' or 'good guy SE doing me a favour'.
Neither do I understand the need to defend SE in the way some do.
I understand that some people couldn't care less if the servers are down for a while, they will just do something else and don't feel entitled.
In fact I applaud that, though you're not one of them if you feel the need to to log on the forum and tell others to shut it.
People that pre order are usually following a MMO for longer and are very eager to play.
When your pre order code is not being sent, open beta didn't work for you and the servers being taken down 3 times while you could barley play you can get disappointed.
If people feel like expressing their disappointment, why not let them?
If you don't like reading this don't go to the forum, don't open these threads and don't post.
At best you're just fuelling topics which basically makes you intentionally or unintentionally a forum troll.

This is not general discussion no one cares about these silly pics that contribute nothing nor accomplish anything.
I don't see what the big fuss is over. Problems are occurring, but video games and especially MMORPGs are always going to have problems. The problems are being dealt with and there's still plenty of playtime available. What is there is very polished, functional, and fun.
This is a relatively smooth launch.
The fanbois are strong with this one. I guess it's too much to ask for a working product. The beta is over, been over for a week so you can't use that excuse anymore, find another one. These issues shouldn't be happening. SE could have and really should have had Open beta 24/7 to test server loads at all times of the day.
