Double EXP periods. {Can I have it?}

I checked with Yoshida about if we have any plans for these types of promotions for A Realm Reborn and his response was:

Meh, as nice as that sounds, I like leveling without the Bonus ( Sleeping in an inn for Bonus is good enough for me), but having a Bonus that comes out of thin air.. is something I personally wouldn't want. just me though.

Im ok on incentive for non-Legacy players. maybe a stack of helpful foods,potions and starter crafting/gathering sets, not a direct bonus for exp

I actually really liked the mob tablet system XI had. Worldwide semi-random bonuses for everyone and fame and fortune (however fleeting) for the ones who found it. No real way to camp them so it's not particularly unfair to anyone, it's just luck!

Do people forget that new players (wait for it, this is gonna blow your mind....) are new and therefore have to start from the bottom? No gil, no surplus of leves, no teleports unlocked, no chocobo/goobbue, no rested bonus, no gear, and obviously no abilities from other classes to help them with the leveling process.

No shit people already playing don't need extra exp and have a very easy time exping. Who's the genius that figured out that having gil/gear/easy transportation and a stockpile of leves/rested exp makes for a fast trip to 50?

I've gotten my Black Mage from like 30-50 in a matter of days, but that was me dedicating all of my time within those few days to levelling. There was nothing "casual" about my playing during that time. I sank literally 8+ hours a day levelling the job. This community just loves hyperboles.

That's not even a long time it takes longer in other mmo's to get those lvls.

I agree. Its a bit unfair for anyone who can't play at that set time, you know? Mostly people who play CONSTANTLY will be using it...and they don't need it.

As "neat" as bonus weekends may be, far better for the community as a whole i think to have On use item that starts your "Exp weekend" when you want it. I can play ALOT on weekends. But not everyone can make specific dates. And anyone who works weekends ends up missing out entirely. Unless after a Double XP weekends you have a double exp weekday etc.

Honestly if its from X date to X date, i'd rather forget it.

on a side note: It's nice to get direct (if succinct) responses from Yoshi P. :)

no no no no no no weekend bonuses.. we get an inn bonus. the longer your away, the bigger the bonus gets. whats wrong with that? do not impose an unfair advantage on top of what we already get based on time and for the people that have weekend jobs. thanks but no. the last MMO i was involved in did that, and pretty much got left in the dust trying to bust my butt getting regular exp while all my office friends soaked up the premier exp times cuz they got weekends off! must be nice

but no no no no no no. the exp bonuses were given should be plenty, especially at the rate we are leveling anyway. :p

I don't recall ever saying it was a long time. I just helped prove that you can't hit 1-50 after a few days of casual play without a power level.

Awesome, looking forward to it. It's fun to have random bonus events, and I've seen it in all sorts of different games and genres, from pay to play MMOs to Mass Effect. It's a nice little incentive to play a bit harder for a weekend!

What "other" mmos have you been playing? WoW you can go 1-85 in a 3-4 days. the new TERA you can go 1-60 in 3 days. Im sure FFXIV is faster than XI and other J/Kmmo, but not too many people even care about those other j/kmmo. they suck.

New players aren't going to skyrocket to 50 in 3-4 without PL or a group of like-level players. Please, make a knew character then go solo a class to 50, then come back and tell us how long it took you. You really wouldnt even go that fast with a like-level group, only with a PL.

Not to mention that new players still need to join a GC, continue the quests at the level intended, get their chocobo, etc.

You say that like it's the norm. It would take a very experienced player with a lot of spare time to have any realistic chance at pulling it off. We're talking damn near 24/7 playing with non-stop questing + dungeons. That's not something that just any random person can do.

For the average person, they might be able to pull that off if you had the refer-a-friend bonus (x3 exp for you + the friend who invited you if in the same group up to level 80), with a PL mowing down everything in dungeons for you. Without that, a casual player will still take a month or two.

Now, if you're talking playtime and not actual days, that's a different story entirely.

Probably the first time that I wish there was a dislike button on a Dev post XD. I am /REALLY/ against double exp/seals/anything periods. It's an awful thing in my opinion and only brings out bad habits from the community. I've seen way too many times in other mmorpg (Ragnarok online and Aion are a few names that pop up) where they did implement something like this and all it did was have the community whine and bitch about the next double exp period.

Like a bunch of drug addicted people waiting eagerly for their next shot. Please let Yoshi also know that there are people against it.

(I'll admit that the game ragnarok online really did need those. Now there was a game where you had to grind for days for just 1 level!)

My only concern with things like those events, the 'double exp' for a weekend, is when does it stop being like every other generic F2P game you can find out there and does it return to XIV? I realize.. 'when the weekend/event is over, duh' would be the obvious answer, but its not that. Its if things like this become the norm, how much more gimmicky will it become?

And besides.. EXP is not a difficult thing to acquire in this game at all. Now, I will say for the 1-40 levels, eh maybe. But going 40-50 is not a difficult task, not even including stronghold parties. If you just do leves in Nine Ivies and Treespeak, you're looking at pulling roughly 44k exp for one full round of 8 leves. That's at 1 star, just burning through the leves. If you've got 99 leves, you could push through a few levels on leves alone and then if you really want to keep grinding it out, go join a party. But exp gain is not the problem at all.

Crafting/Gathering..I can't speak for, dont do either.

i'm ok if they do every year in september/october a grand company anniversary event for 1 week with double seal reward like last year.
But double exp weekends? no thanks. It was good in Ragnarok in the old days, where it needed 8 month to get to level 99, but not in FF XIV.

Double exp weekend, pah.

I want a "kill-one-mob-gain-one-level" weekend, this would be a nice random fun reward, seriously helping out casual players like myself who can't spend that much time playing this game. Best time for this would be around Christmas, when everyone got free days off and stuff.

I also want a "each-hit-9999-dmg" weekend, so I finally have a chance to clear all that raid stuff without having to spend months to find a group that finally manages to get their stuff together. Again, I'd propose that to be at a time when everyone has free days off, like new year's eve or something.

Because there's this weird, increasing (read: worsening) tendency for many (most?) MMO players in the past several years to be absolutely obsessed over how quickly their xp bar is raising, or how fast their level is increasing - often at the expense doing much else.

That is unless it involves good loot drops, or anything that's considered "mandatory" by the "community elite". Then they're all over that too.

They tend to value their game experience not by what activities they did, who they did them with, or how much fun they had in the process, but by how many levels they got, or what good drops/gear they acquired.

Since you'll seldom see them doing anything outside leveling or farming for better gear, you can usually identify them by their complaints about "lack of content" after they've raced past 80% of it and are stuck at end-game/level cap with little to do.

If it doesn't get them levels faster, or increase the stats of their character build, "it's not worth doing" and isn't even content as far as many of them are concerned.

That, in my opinion, is why it's always "double xp weekends".

I got my THM to 50 in about 3-4 days from level 10. using leves, probably over 100 of them due to the refresh on the leves I was using. I would not call it casual game play.

Final Fantasy XIV: Modern Warfare 3 Double XP weekends. Gotta get that next Prestige.

Very cool indeed, I hope its not only limited for exp bonus, something different every week would be cool too. Like bonus Grand Company skill points for charging up Primal Summons or whatever. Bonus Critical hit weekend? lmao

Leveling in this game is already way too fast. Double exp periods would be a joke.

Is there any way to /sign against this idea? It's not only completely unecessary given how fast you level up in this game (especially since 50 is the cap), but as others are pointing out, it makes people feel obligated to play during those time periods... and if these happen at all frequently enough people will start to depend on them to level and feel like time spent leveling outside those times is pointless. I can see the forum threads now "Double EXP weekend? Can I haz it?"

Oh man, So glad we all agree the level speed in 2.0 is too fast!

If that's the case... I would rather them fix the leveling speed, rather then cause people to become dependent on double exp weekends to feel as though they're making decent progress.

FFXI is the fastest MMO to hit cap currently if you know the right people or have the gil. The problem with all these fast leveling system is this is exactly what's killing off MMORPGs, you get to cap then bumrush the content...

Then what's left? No developer in existence can release content to keep people happy when you can blow through everything the same day.

There, know the right people and have the gil. My response was to a person that thinks a New Player can level a class from 1-50 in a few days of Casual play. New players have no gil and most likely dont know anyone. You cant level 1-50 fresh off the boat in a few days of casual play. Probably not even a week of 24/7 play.

If anyone can do it, please make a new char and provide some video and I will back down. Then a gain, you wouldnt have to go through a learning curve a real new player would have to go through.

We have rest bonus, no need for double EXP weekend... Rest bonus is the roght way of doing things for casuals! Can't play during the week and don't play much in general? There double EXP for a bit.

But double EXP weekend on top of that, wtf? The whole weekend? That's way too much.

These promotional bonuses don't all have to be EXP bonuses.

I'm not sure why people think this would be game breaking. It would increase traffic (buyers for my crafted items) on the weekends.

If a casual gets to 50, does a chocobo lose its wings?
